Moving the Stimulus Goalposts

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: With public confidence in the stimulus package showing signs of ebbing, the Obama administration is continuing to sell its impact with nation-wide events and press appearances. Today brings this explanation, from Christina Romer, the chairman of the president’s Council on Economic Advisers: Stimulus spending, Romer told the Financial Times, is “going to ramp up strongly through the summer and the fall.”  “We always knew we were not going to get all that much fiscal impact during the first five to six months. The big impact starts to hit from about now onwards,” Romer said. We’ve known for some time that the money takes a while to get out the door. But top Obama advisers haven’t always been so cautious in predicting how long the stimulus would take to be felt. Back in February, with Congress moving swiftly to approve President Obama’s $787 billion stimulus package, White House budget director Peter Orszag said the benefits of the stimulus would “take weeks to months” to be felt. Larry Summers, director of the National Economic Council, was even more optimistic: “You'll see the effects begin almost immediately,” Summers told CNN in February.  Just last month, Jared Bernstein, Vice President Joe Biden’s top economic adviser, joined administration officials in asserting that the stimulus was already working, despite rising unemployment rates.  “The idea here is that, yes, the unemployment rate is rising, but it would be rising more quickly [without the bill],” Bernstein said on ABCNews.com’s “Top Line.” “We're spending about $1 billion a day — and, by the way, with very careful oversight — and that's creating, again, economic activity that would not have occurred in the absence of this plan. That's the essential point.”  Then there’s the case of the now-famous chart, prepared in January by the Obama transition team to forecast employment rates with and without a stimulus bill in place. Obama’s economic advisers saw unemployment cresting at just below 8 percent with the stimulus in place; without it, they forecast the national rate topping out around 9 percent. The stimulus, of course, did pass, though the national unemployment rate is now 9.4 percent. Two weeks ago, President Obama predicted that unemployment will top 10 percent this year.

Hey Rick i think you should do a little more digging in that stimulus bill and identify which industries, lobbies, and organized groups who get a piece of the pie about 87% go to them and 13 % directly to people they forgot about unemployment insurance laws and it takes for shovel ready projects to work because it 100 degrees outside. Im a democrat and voted easily voted no for this crap. during the debate i said obama should veto and try another, looks like I was right again

The best is yet to come. With commercial real estate defaults on the horizon, toxic assets never went away, and consumer mortgage ARMS are about to reset at higher rates….
10% unemployment is inevitable. And what’s the Democrats response to that? More spending? More bureaucracy? More taxes?
Is this the “new era” of politics that Obama promised the sheep? Meet the New Democrats…same as the Old Democrats.
Do Democrats have solutions to anything that doesn’t involve higher taxes and more government?

I cant believe anyone has confidence in these idiots to solve anything. Obama is a mushmouthed dunce and Biden is a clown. This is the beginning of the end…You have an inexperienced child at the wheel and an obsequious, fawning gladhanding ‘yes man’ with a porcelain smile fixed on his goofy face sitting behind him. WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

I have been unemployed since Aug 08. Unemployment insurance has provided only $ 1000.00 since then and Obama has made finding a job more difficult since he too office. Obama’s solutions are not working and in fact are making things worse.

We don’t need anymore stimulating. Look at Gov. Sanford. Ok just kidding. Seriously though, stimulus is a root cause of inflation which is coming down the pipes when the economy starts to pick up steam (velocity of money). Just listen to Ron Paul for the proper explanations.

People are slow to admit that they have been duped. For some people Obama or liberalism is a religion, and therefore is a matter of faith – not of reason. It will take a while for this to sink in, particularly with the fanatics. The question is, can the white house corrupt the census in time to prevent his ouster in 2012.
We joke about Obamas silence on the obvious election fraud in Iran… but voter beware, its coming to a voting booth near you… Thats why the census MUST be politicised and handled by the white house. What a wierd world it has become when such an obvious perversion of our constitution can be so blatantly executed right before our eyes…

Wait a minute, an ABC news article that isnt totally pro Obama? It isnt very tough or truthful but it isnt kissing his rear like normal. Is the press going to wake up, that would be too good to be true. I think its funny that the only media outlet that is doing well is Fox. Maybe finances will wake them up to reality. I doubt it!

This generation, the next generation and probably even to the third and forth generations will not be able to recover from the damage this current administration and congress has already put in place. Osama Bin Laden could not have dreamed of a more efficient plan to destroy America than we have elected for ourselves.

More proof, (as if we needed any) that Obama and company are as clueless today as they were when they rammed this ill conceived waste of money through Congress. We will most certainly be bankrupt if people continue to listen to him.

No surprises here. How many more huge expenditure bills being rushed through and not performing as those who told us it “had” to be done “or else” do we need to do here before we say enough!
This is the exact reason why the so-called ObamaCare heath plans MUST be slowed down and really analyzed in much greater detail before we commit the country down that road.

“The idea here is that, yes, the unemployment rate is rising, but it would be rising more quickly [without the bill],” Bernstein said on ABCNews.com’s “Top Line.” “We’re spending about $1 billion a day — and, by the way, with very careful oversight — and that’s creating, again, economic activity that would not have occurred in the absence of this plan. So the unemployment rate would be …hmmm…11, 12, 13 %…Now? Is that what we are NOW supposed to buy into?
Since these clowns have NO POSSIBLE way to verify ANYTHING when it comes to the so-called “saved” jobs, it is not possible to verify that statement. Think we will hear many of the MSM really challenge this administration on

In all my years in business I have come to learn that people with no experience, little talent and a phoney resume are the ones who always have a multitude of excuses, reasons and blame-casting.
The current administration is one big load of inept bungling politcos. They have one agenda and that is to pass every liberal scheme they can think of. The results of course is what many have been prediciting – it will fail.
We have no one to blame but ourselves for being duped by this conman and his supporters. Of course we are always the ones wanting more more more for me me me and we shouldn’t be surprised that our selfish selection of Mr. Hope & Change has turned into a selection of Mr. Screw You.

” about 87% go to them and 13 % directly to people they forgot about”
About 30% of the stimulus bill was straight out tax cuts or one time refunds. Almost 10% of it all went to the Republican’s AMT patch amendment (reducing the taxes of only the upper middle class, or the odd $60k / yr earner with 8 kids).

Posted by: jhw539 | June 29, 2009, 12:46 pm 12:46 pm

Well, well, well. Surprise, surprise. Obama’s stimulus isn’t working, eh? Well, remember that he didn’t promise creation of jobs, be qualified that by saying that he’d preserve jobs. Thus, he always has the ready-made excuse of using the “unseen” jobs that were not lost as “evidence” of the fact that his policies are ostensibly working. Listen, the government produces NOTHING. It can only redistribute what it takes from others. Why is that so hard for the average idiot voter to understand? The Obama administration’s goal in the next 4 years is to have as many people drinking from the government trough as possible. Thus, he has a willing consituency that has to vote for him or risk losing their government largesse. When are we going to be a country of self-sufficient, independing, hard-working people again? The sad answer is: probably never!

As long as Obama acts like a fortune teller by predicting that unemployment will hit 10%, lies, lies and lies, who cares? The Kool-Aid crowd can’t tell the difference if he/she is fired, lost job as long as we get FREE healthcare promised by the Liar-In-Chief, a tinker car that gets 50 MPG, Soak the Rich Tax Scheme that will soak ALL OF US.

This president scares the hell out of me. The previous nine presidents in my lifetime made me angry at times, but this one upsets and scares the hell out of me most of the time.
This president is naïve and reckless His solution to every problem is to print more money. He doesn’t seem to care that he is making the dollar worthless and that future generations are going to pay dearly for his naiveté and recklessness.
This president is a sheep in wolf’s clothing. He is being tested all over the world and so far it has taken him four or five days to respond, e.g., the kidnapping of the captain of a U.S. merchant ship, North Korea’s nuclear test and missile launches, Iran’s post election demonstrations.
This president is a liar and a thug. He has broken almost all of his campaign promises
and is paying off his election debts by putting thugs and incompetents in high level government positions and keeping ACORN afloat to manipulate the national census as he sees fit. He attended a church for 20 years without knowing that the preacher hated America or that his pal and mentor was a terrorist by his own admission.
This president is a fraud. He has spent, and is continuing to spend, a small fortune of tax-payer dollars to thwart legal requests for him to produce documentation for his eligibility as President. He cannot string two simple sentences together without a teleprompter and jams legislation through Congress before he, the Congress or anyone else has a chance to read, let alone understand it. This, despite his promise to give citizens five days to study all bills before he signs them (the first of his broken campaign promises).
This president is immature and petty. He absolutely cannot stand criticism and revels in the nauseating love affair that he has developed and nurtured with the liberal news media and commentators, going so far as to allow one network, who’s employees voted unanimously for him, to tout his national healthcare program from the White House. If he is ever opposed, he publicly whines about it, claiming that he is being unfairly treated, usually by a single cable news network that he coyly neglects to identify (Fox News). However, as a proponent of the ‘The Fairness Doctrine,’ he has had no qualms naming Hannity and Limbaugh as overly critical, out of control, conservative talk show hosts.
This president is not proud of his Country. He apologizes for America at every opportunity to any head of state or passerby who will listen, especially third world country dictators. He bows and scrapes to those who detest the U.S. and shuns those who have stood tall beside us. He refused to wear a U.S. Flag pin in his lapel until pestered by the press about it. He has a wife who told the world she was never proud of her Country before he was elected president and called America mean.

Of course it’s not working. What do you expect when truth is thrown out the window? In other words… If you say “there is no God” does that make it true? Of course not. Just because liberals say “there is no truth” does that make it true? of course not. As long as liberals base their beliefs and policies upon lies they will fail… The ultimate truth in the statement that I just made is… Liberals will always fail because all of their policies are based on lies. This is just another example. Those of you who voted for this regime best wake up before the next election or you won’t have a pot to vote in.

Economic justice:
* America is capitalist and greedy – yet half of the population is subsidized.
* Half of the population is subsidized – yet they think they are victims.
* They think they are victims – yet their representatives run the government.
* Their representatives run the government – yet the poor keep getting poorer.
* The poor keep getting poorer – yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.
* They have things that people in other countries only dream about – yet they want America to be more like those other countries.
Hollywood cliches:
* Without capitalism there’d be no Hollywood – yet filmmakers hate capitalism.
* Filmmakers hate capitalism – yet they sue for unauthorized copying of their movies.
* They sue for unauthorized copying – yet on screen they teach us to share.
* On screen they teach us to share – yet they keep their millions to themselves.
* They keep their millions to themselves – yet they revel in stories of American misery and depravity.
* They revel in stories of American misery and depravity – yet they blame the resulting anti-American sentiment on conservatism.
* They blame the anti-American sentiment on conservatism – yet conservatism ensures the continuation of a system that makes Hollywood possible.

Representative Jose Serrano (D) has introduced a bill in the House to abolish the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which limits presidents to two consecutive terms or ten years in office. The bill that was introduced (February 2009) is HJ Res 5.
This resolution is in the first step in the legislative process. Introduced bills and resolutions first go to committees that deliberate, investigate, and revise them before they go to general debate. The majority of bills and resolutions never make it out of committee. If this joint resolution proposes an amendment to the Constitution, three-fourths of the states must ratify the proposal. A joint resolution, if not amending the constitution, may also be signed into law by the president.

This is what happens when you have career politicians making the laws in this country. They never had to work a 9-5 job, they never had to own a business and balance the books. They are predominately lawyers spending other people’s money. Since they are clueless about running a business they should start listening to real experts on what it would take to run an economy, not some elitist that doesn’t know how to use Turbo-Tax.
The way I see it, their plan is to have the very wealthy elitists running the country. The middle class will be destroyed by the current economic policies, which will put everyone into the lower class, basically serfs, at the beck and calling of the wealthy elitists.

This was not and is not a stimulus package. It is a “let’s spend lots of money because we are Democrats and that’s what we do, and let’s placate the unions because we owe them big-time.” It has nothing to do with the health of our economy, job recovery, or helping those who need economic help. Do they really believe that the voting public is that stupid??? Apparently so, or either they just don’t care.

The more existing taxes are raised, the more new taxes are enacted, the more businesses are regulated, the more benefits employers are forced to provide, the more government jobs are created, the more concessions are granted to special interest groups, the more money is printed, the more money is borrowed from third party nations, the LESS LIKELY the citizens of the US, as well as our nation itself, are to PROSPER in the long run. Observe the new reality, the new economy. Our jobs have left the country and doing business in the US becomes ever more expensive with every new legislation, while our leaders are selling the idea that the government must provide more benefits to the people. Even in the face of less government income, government spending increases. There is no logical avenue toward recovery of our failing economy. Conversion to “green” is the only idea this administration has come up with. But the flaw is that the government must subsidize the new business development and consumer purchases to make “green” feasible. At a time when our economy is hurting we decide to go green which is more expensive.

Add in the fact that this whole economic collaspe can be pointed at the sub-prime mess, originating out of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. And what does Barney Frank (the DEFENDER and originator of the sub-prime mess, HOW is he IMMUNE to this mess???), now WANTS FM/FM to RE-RELAX the borrowing rules!
IS this some type of BIZZARO world? How is it that uneducated and uninformed blame Bush and Republicans for this mess when people like Dodd and Frank are still in power?

“About 30% of the stimulus bill was straight out tax cuts or one time refunds. Almost 10% of it all went to the Republican’s AMT patch amendment (reducing the taxes of only the upper middle class, or the odd $60k / yr earner with 8 kids).”
jhw539,
so what? Are you telling everyone now that the administration did not understand that…or account for it ?
What does the make up of it have to do with the Administrations’ Claims of what it would do ?

Posted by: Mike_c | June 29, 2009, 1:57 pm 1:57 pm

To be fair, the previous admin was just as stupid. Remeber that stimulus bull from the election back in Sept/Oct? Obama has basically been Bush the third. What I wouldn’t give for a candidate that would just say “NO” to spending on anyone or anything but defense and roads. Of course, they’d never get out of the primaries.

It’s just that the Democrats are numerically challenged.
When the President thinks there are 58 states in the country (he said he had visited 57 and there was one more to go), and the VP says it’s all about a “3-letter word, jobs: J-O-B-S, jobs”, and the Speaker of the House says we are losing 500,000,000 jobs a month, everyone should be skeptical about any claims these people make relating to numbers, especially with dollar signs in front of them.
But “we” voted for them, didn’t “we” (in the famous words of the Lone Ranger’s sidekick Tonto, “what you mean WE, paleface?”).

As soon as I heard about this “plan” I knew it would not help the country. The only stimulus we can all hope for is after the passing of that “plan” and the “energy bill” is that people will be stimulated to vote out all liberals in the house and senate, then maybe the new congress can rescind all this garbage.

Vote the bums out in 2010! Anyone who voted for this Cap and Trade scam needs to be drummed out of office in 2010! “The banking crisis has subsided, people are no longer panic pulling their money out of financial institutions”
There was no banking crisis. It was just a political creation to get more power.
“housing pricing have stopped falling, ” Oh, really? tell that to those people in California and Florida who can’t sell their homes to save their lives.
“personal incomes are increasing, ” No, actually, employers are cutting salaries and laying people off for a week at a time unpaid (like I was) to save money. Incomes are still falling except for the lucky few.
“unemployment benefits have been extended, ” Yeah, that’s so much better than a job, right?
“he cracked down on executive pay, ” by violating the contracts HE made. Nice way to keep his word.
“saved the car companies from themselves, ”
Yeah, tell that to those people who no longer make Pontiacs. Or to the GM people who are watching their company go under. But the union pensions are safe!
“and we are investing in our crumbling infrastructure, which is 20 years past due. ” Which we were doing all along. I have the joy of driving on new roads to work every day.

Um, no it wasn’t. Care to check your facts at the CBO? Didn’t think so.

Bush started the bailouts, and passed the torch to Obama. We the people of this country need to CLEAN HOUSE in Washington in 2010 or it will get much worse. If this joint resolution proposes an amendment to the Constitution, three-fourths of the states must ratify the proposal. A joint resolution, if not amending the constitution, may also be signed into law by the president

Or 2/3 of both houses then it can as well. However the Supreme Court has the ability to overrule congress as the constitution and the amendments are the rule of the land. It would have to be an amendment to the document.

A woman in a hot air balloon realizes she is lost. She reduces her altitude and spots a man fishing from a boat below. She shouts to him, “Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am.”
The man consults his portable GPS and replies, “You’re in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.” She rolls her eyes and says, “You must be a Republican!”
“I am,” replies the man. “How did you know?” “Well,” answers the balloonist, “everything you tell me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I’m still lost. Frankly, you’re not much help to me.” The man smiles and responds, “You must be a Democrat.”
“I am,” replies the balloonist. “How did you know?”
Well,” says the man, “You don’t know where you are or where you’re going. You’ve risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and now you expect me to solve your problem. You’re in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but, somehow, now it’s my fault.”

I can’t believe that Americans can’t see the giant red flag that has been waving right in front of them since this administration took office. Does it not scare the you know what out of people that EVERY policy thrown out there has been attached with such sense of urgency. Stimulus plan – “We need this right now”. Climate Control – “Right now”. Health Care Reform – “More right now approach”… No need for anyone to question what they’re trying to shove down our throats. Whatever it is, it needs to be RIGHT NOW. The results (or lack of) of passing the Stimulus plan RIGHT NOW should be a wakeup call to all that there is a reason for this administration’s RIGHT NOW approach. “Don’t let a crisis go to waste” In other words, scare everyone into allowing this socialist agenda to be ram rodded through and we’ll be stuck with it before we even know what hit us.

This “stimulus” wasn’t a stimulus plan… ever. It was a spending program.
Most of the money isn’t spent until 2010 & 2011. Really.
For anyone who swallowed the thing whole, without knowing this – by trusting politicians, they fooled you once, don’t make it twice.
Of course they have to move the goalposts. They had planned on the economy rebounding by April or May. They knew the stimulus would have a very small effect. Now that the economy didn’t rebound by itself, they HAVE to move the goalposts. Duh.

Sure, the Congress did not allow anyone to see the whole plan (they changed the format so when it was posted online, you could not do a search). And Obama didn’t wait (as he promised) before signing. They wanted to get this through WITHOUT anyone being able to see what’s in it.

it is refreshing to see people starting to come out of their comas and start seeing what is going on. Let’s recap to date:
1) Complete disregard for the rule of law in the handling of the bankruptcies of the Chrysler and GM;
2) Complete disregard for the democratic process in forcing the “climate” tax down congress’ throat; and
3) Complete disdain for a nation (Honduras) that exercises the rule of law to curtail a president that was seeking to change the constitution to expand his own powers.
If this is not enough for every American to be fully aware of the fraud that foisted upon us in the last election, then we deserve what we are going to get.

THE AIR ACCORDING TO OSHA
Though repetition has little to do with “the truth,” we’re repeatedly told that there’s “no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke.”
OSHA begs to differ.
OSHA has established PELs (Permissible Exposure Levels) for all the measurable chemicals, including the 40 alleged carcinogens, in secondhand smoke. PELs are levels of exposure for an 8-hour workday from which, according to OSHA, no harm will result.
Of course the idea of “thousands of chemicals” can itself sound spooky. Perhaps it would help to note that coffee contains over 1000 chemicals, 19 of which are known to be rat carcinogens.
-”Rodent Carcinogens: Setting Priorities” Gold Et Al., Science, 258: 261-65 (1992)
There. Feel better?
As for secondhand smoke in the air, OSHA has stated outright that:
“Field studies of environmental tobacco smoke indicate that under normal conditions, the components in tobacco smoke are diluted below existing Permissible Exposure Levels (PELS.) as referenced in the Air Contaminant Standard (29 CFR 1910.1000)…It would be very rare to find a workplace with so much smoking that any individual PEL would be exceeded.”
-Letter From Greg Watchman, Acting Sec’y, OSHA, To Leroy J Pletten, PHD, July 8, 1997
Indeed it would.
Independent health researchers have done the chemistry and the math to prove how very very rare that would be.
As you’re about to see in a moment.
In 1999, comments were solicited by the government from an independent Public and Health Policy Research group, Littlewood & Fennel of Austin, Tx, on the subject of secondhand smoke.
Using EPA figures on the emissions per cigarette of everything measurable in secondhand smoke, they compared them to OSHA’s PELs.
The following excerpt and chart are directly from their report and their Washington testimony:
CALCULATING THE NON-EXISTENT RISKS OF ETS

The biggest mistake of the subprime mess was not requiring that they put down at least 10% of their own money. Now we know better, right? WRONG!! HUD loans today only require 3-1/2 % down payment and to make matters worse, the government is encouraging first time home buyers to plunge into the market by giving them the first $8,000. Is our government run by complete idiots or what?

I agree with the fellow who stated that the people who are slow to realize what they’ve endorsed appear to be acting as if they are part of a fanatical religion. Each decision by this administration appears to be a calculated move, positioning itself for the larger play, regardless of the broken promises or severe damage inflicted upon the electorate. Many of those Obama fanatics reek of hypocrisy, remaining silent on policies and decisions (which will have profound negative effects on them) which they would otherwise have become completely unhinged over had those decisions come from a Republican or Conservative administration. Witnessing the blatent disregard for the Constitution, a blind eye toward corruption, the endorsement of favoritism, and feloniously stacking the deck in favor of Progressive Socialism in the redistricting efforts should compel you liberal Democrats to hang your heads in shame for endorsing this President and this Congress. Without a doubt, you’ve crippled us all with these ignorant, elitist, & short-sighted stewards of America.

Wow, how much NOT a surprise. The “stimulus” was just political payback for lemming type voting blocks. I thought they call it “bribery”, however in Washington, they call it “lobbying” and “special interests” and “PAC money”, as if it is different than Jefferson money (remember the $100k they found in his freezer?). How about this “let’s tax health benefits . . . EXCEPT for our union voting blocks”!!!Is anyone still shedding that inaugural tear for the historic nature of this election? It is only historic in that Obama is signing off on a deficit that is greater than all the other Presidents combined (did he inherit their deficits too or just W’s???) and it will soon exceed GDP. Nothing like having a deficit greater than the entire economic output of the only superpower in the world. How did that happen? Run away spending, mostly on entitlements. P.S.–the Senate will kill the piece of work called “cap n trade”.

Congress, even more than Obama, must be replaced immediately (and invetigations into Pelosi et al) as they’re just doing what ever they want, regardless of the clear majority of Americans standing against these policies.
Added to that, Republicans have absolutely no voice at all in Congress (or the media for that matter) so there are no checks and balances at all.
All one has to do is look at the dem representatives who voted for the Stimulus and Cap and Trade despite an overwhelming majority of their constituencies saying NO to it. Party above all, including country – but most especially THE PEOPLE! I’m not saying the reps are much better… but the dems are now the single most dangerous entity to this country and our future!
Obama and the dems in Congress have usurped power, trashed the constitution and with the Census (which, by the way should be challenged at the USSC) and impending attempts to grant amnesty to 12-20 million illegal immigrants in an effort to dillute the votes of AMERICAN CITIZENS in the ’10 and ’12 elections to remain in power!
Once we, the people have taken back control, the next thing is to focus on the treasonous behavior of the US media in vetting (or not vetting actually) the lying, race baiting, naive fool! One has to wonder, would he have squeeked out the win without an adoring media who refused to report that he really IS A SOCIALIST, that he had absolutely no credible experience at all, etc. etc. etc. Considering only 42% of registered voters voted for him – hardly the liberal mandate ‘by the people’ for this joke of a president.

you mean you expect a Man who has never run a company, a platoon, a team, a factory, or anything but a campaign, to be able to “fix” the economy? You can’t fix the economy just like you can’t fix the weather. (although He will try to do both). Just get out of the way and let it grow.

Now, now folks. Don’t get too squishy about a single on-line-only outlet from the Liberal media merely noting the obvious inconsistencies, for those who pay attention, in the Obama administration.
When such organizations publish the full truth BEFORE the enabling legislaiton is whisked through Congress without any real debate over the ramifications, or even a good idea of the content, of the bill, only then will they deserve even a tiny bit of credit.
Before long, some enterprising “reporter” might even whip out a calculator and figure out that the 600,000 jobs the Obamites claimed they have saved (a fanciful number, at best), at a cost of $1Billion per day, comes out at $1,667 per job per day. Perhaps they might ahve considered competitive bidding. Personally, they can “save” my job for just $300 per day – and I’ll even take care of my own health insurance. Make it “only” $500 a day and I can hire another full-time worker, with full health coverage – a real two-for-one deal.
How about this for a question at The Chosen One’s next media love-fest: Mr President, members of your administration have calculated that the recent stimulus efforts have saved approximately 600,000 jobs which might have been lost without the stimulus plan, while others members of teh administration have noted that disbursements under the stimulus plan are approximately $1Billion per day. At a cost of $1,667 per day, or $607,200 per year, how long can we afford to save those jobs?
Only when we hear such obvious questions posed directly to The One will we be able to give the liberal media any credit for intellectual honesty.

Jared Bernstein, Vice President Joe “We Guessed Wrong” Biden’s top economic adviser, joined administration officials in asserting that the stimulus was already working, despite rising unemployment rates.
Now that we’ll likely have “Cap & Rape” soon means that they will really have guessed wrong!! A large cup of tea, anyone??!!

Hmmm, as Obama is systematically wrecking the economy, I’m seeing more and more signs of buyer’s remorse. Just yesterday, Jesse Jackson expressed his displeasure with how Obama promised much to the black community and delivered hardly nothing.
And Obama’s climate bill that just passed the house? With great fanfare and huge media participation, Obama claimed he would give 95% of working families a tax cut. Well, that’s a LIE! If the senate looses it’s mind and passes Obama’s climate change bill, it will become the largest tax increase in this country’s history that will affect 100% of American homes.
Obama doesn’t understand economics, Obama doesn’t understand foreign policy. But he CAN do a good job reading from a teleprompter.

Aloha,
Only one “Man” can undo what Obama and Pelosi have wrought on us. [We are the people of the USA and O and Pelosi are supposedly public servants?] That man is Mitt Romney! He is the smartest of all the candidates we have, or had in the since G.H.W.B. Mitt saved. He has the experience, Romney’s claim to national fame came in 1999, when an inquiry into corruption found that the two top officials who led Salt Lake City’s bid for the 2002 Winter Olympics had actually paid bribes of more than $1 million to 24 members of the International Olympic Committee. As the event’s CEO, he brought in new, stricter policies on ethical behavior (like having some).
Oh for you who won’t vote for a Mormon, we need a President [not Pastor] we can believe in to fix the “Change We Can’t Believe In”.

I hope those people who are regretting voting for Obama are not just trolls, and are legitimate. I look at his approval rating and have been wondering what is wrong with people. I can only speculate that the people who voted for him were uninformed, and they are still not smart enough to see reality.

If you have to “keep selling its impact” then it must not be viable. Why keep spending more money on “nationwide events and press appearances?” If it’s so good, it would sell itself.
The whole obama takeover of our government is an “obamination” and if we don’t start standing up to the continued spending, the addition of all of the “czars” that no one but the White House has control over (paid by the taxpayer), the fiasco that is the obama presidency, we’ll be in bigger trouble than we thought.
This is all the biggest mistake in our country’s history: a president who continues to lie to all of us, spending money we don’t have and he doesn’t seem to lose any sleep over it.
Oh, and did I say we are in big trouble?

JCIll, the problem is, those who post on news site blogs keep up with the news. They know what’s going on, they pay attention. The majority of Obama voters don’t pay attention to what’s going on. They get their news from 30 minutes of MSNBC or the evening news. And they believe what they’re told without taking the time to cooberate the information. In a word, they’re sheeple.
We all know some of these. Prior to the election last November, you may have asked one of them why they’re voting for Obama. A typical response was, “Obama’s for the people”, or “Obama will bring change”. Those responses are mindless and totally meaningless. I’ve responded that he may bring change, but there’s no guarantee it will a change for the better.

Goal/strategy: Get the legislation passed and signed into law asap!! Dire consequences if we do nothing, window dress it the best you can. Then address the criticism as it comes in by changing the original story that most regular people will have forgotten. The opposition is labeled as the “party of NO”, with no plan.

It’s not a new thing, though some in this administration might think otherwise, to keep changing the definition of progress or success in order to fit the situation at hand. This administration has missed its goals on one issue after the other and with next to no criticism from the mainstream press, they just change the goals and go merrily on their way to destroying what was once the greatest economy and most free society in the history of the world.

Posted by: frank w | June 29, 2009, 5:06 pm 5:06 pm

If it was actually working, our Government wouldn’t have to mount a massive PR campaign to tell us it’s working. We would simply know it. My fellow Americans, we’ve been had.
This administration is either grossly incompetent in the highest degree or actively destroying the economy with malicious intent. There are no other ways to adequately explain what has been done.
We have mortgaged our children’s futures on these stimulus packages, allowed our government to seize control of private industry, stood by quietly while the government has assumed more and more power over areas in which its involvement is unprecedented, and all we have to show for it is that our civilization is heading to ruin at a braekneck pace.
Let us be candid here, this is not a time for political correctness or dancing around the point in order to prove what nice people we are. There’s an old saying that if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it’s a duck.
Government ownership of industry, oppressive and arbitrary taxation, command economies, and “single-payer” medicine are the hallmarks of communist governments around the world. These systems are inimical to the level of individual freedom we have traditionally enjoyed in this country. We as a people must take our stand against Communism, or we will repeat the same mistakes made by Russia, by Cuba, by China, and dozens of other nations around the world.
I know there are some who say that “It didn’t work because the right people haven’t tried it”, ignoring the weight of historical evidence that confirms beyond all reasonable doubt that it just doesn’t work. There are no right people for Communism. To quote a friend of mine, Communism is like spandex. Good idea, then real people got a hold of it. I don’t need to tell you about the results, you can find them in any history book worth its salt.
If America by some miracle still resembles itself in 2010, we must clean house in Congress and vote out as many incumbents as possible, both Republican and Democrat, to voice our dismay at the actions of the current Congress and Administration. Action this drastic is about the only method we have left to send a message to Washington.
America, it is time we take a stand against this madness. If we do not, I fear that this country as we know it will be no more.

I cannot believe how many people still worship at the feet of Obama thinking all this spending is so good. The big beneficiaries so far have been Goldman Sachs, the UAW and a few other friends of Obama. Even Obama himself has said on one more than one occassion all this spending is not sustainable, it will cause inflation and high interests and will be detrimental to our economy. Yet, who in God’s name is doing the spending? OBAMA is. He trotted out hope and change, reads from his teleprompter so well and people have lapped it up without any critical analysis. We are facing a situation that will make what happened under Carter look mild. As I said, even Obama himself recognizes it and yet he keeps on spending.

All of these bills are hundreds, if not thousands of pages long, and not one politician has read them. This is just another example of how our government rarely, yes rarely, ever gets it right. I can think of no program to date that the Federal Goverment has ever run successfully. Medicare, Social Security is so much in the red that I doubt I will ever see it used for my retirement. They can’t run the Post Office or Amtrack in the black so what makes anyone think that these Cap and Trade, Stimulus program or Health Care program can be run successfully and to our benefit?
I’ve listened to Obama and his crew with a little reserve hoping that maybe they might do something positive towards this economy. All I see is a group of bullies and beuracrates trying to push down the American public’s throat a socialist agenda that is destroying our capitalistic system. They are not trying to reform capitalism, they are trying to destroy it. It’s time we get angry at these goons and bafoons before they destroy not only our children’s future but our way of life our father’s, grandfather’s and greatgrandfather’s fought so dearly for. It’s time we start getting angry at our representatives who are not looking after what’s best for this country but what’s best to keep them in power and fills their pockets.
We need to start using our voice and our vote. Let’s get busy America and get some people in there that help us keep what we earn instead of distributing our hard earned money to those who refuse to get off their butt and work or get an education. How many of you already work 2 or more jobs just to make buy necessities? What makes you think these politicians we have in power, both Democrates or Republicans, give a flying leap about how hard you work to make ends meet? When have you ever seen the government make your life easier all in the name of making your life better? We all work hard for what we have and I refuse to send any more money to Washington through “free health care” or “cap an trade” (a.k.a. tax increases) without a fight. Fight back for your money! You have a voice! Use it.

Posted by: Charlie Hubbard | June 30, 2009, 9:52 am 9:52 am

I find myself every day wondering where this will end. It seems a “perfect storm” of discontent in this country, led by the MSM, put people in a position of looking for a change, any kind of change, in the office of POTUS. McCain was painted, wrongly so, as “more of the same” and Obama as a politically-correct, younger, more vital and therefore more “hip”, candidate of change, whatever that meant. What it meant didn’t matter, so long as it was DIFFERENT, and by being black he appealed to those who wanted to be seen as racially-inconsequential. We are now stuck with an administration that is ramming through radical legislation at a breakneck pace, and I think we may look back on these days and wonder how we got to where we will eventually find ourselves: a government-controlled, socialist society where the few will be charged with caring for the masses, and privatization and entrepreneurism will be relegated to existence only in our history books.

But ABC still believes in the ObamaCare ‘solutions’? Same designers, different bill.
Why would we trust people to fix the economy when they’ve never been part of the economy? Would you trust a football coach who had never worked in, around or played for any football team in his life? It would be a joke yet we pretend that somehow guys with no history in any private job know how to create private sector jobs.
What kind of jobs do socialists create anyways? GOVERNMENT JOBS!!! And that is exactly the jobs which have been ‘created or saved’ thus far. I believe Mao tried this whole thing back in the 50s. Maybe somebody in D.C. should read a book about it.
