David Letterman and Katie Couric have to keep trying to destroy Sarah Palin. She is a strong conservative woman who live her life according to her convictions and this scares them. Why? who knows. Do they not live their lives according to their convictions? Probably. Why do the liberals hate her so. Its like it personal. Even if you don’t agree with her politicly why try to destroy her at every turn? Many people don’t agree with Obama but have you ever heard anyone say something even remotely close to what Letterman said about Obama’s girls? NO Way. All hell would break loose. Had Rush Limbaugh made such a joke, all the Hollywood crowd would be demanding that he be fired. What an outcry there would be if such jokes were made about Obama’s daughter. Media bias could not be more clearly demonstrated.

So its wrong to make sexual jokes about someone’s 14 year old daughter, but its okay to make sexual jokes about someone’s 18 year old daughter. Am I the only one to see the hypocrisy here? This is not a liberal/conservative or democrat/republican thing. This is about someone in the entertainment industry pandering to our increasingly amoral values for a quick laugh (by the way, Letterman doesn’t actually write any of these jokes). The solution is simple…stop watching him. Any apology he offered would be completely insincere.

Apparently the Christian right leaning Sarah didn’t drum the ideology of abstinence into the head of her daughter well enough. One has to wonder why the daughter wasn’t using contraceptives. Was Sarah thinking that her daughter was going to remain absolutely celibate? We know that Levi wasn’t the kind of guy to wear protection. The Palins are clearly projecting a double standard.

As a Hoosier boy myself, I used to love Letterman. He used to be so funny and laid back, esp. when he was host of late night. As he got older, he became overtly liberal and pollarizing. I am no Palin fan, but to even contemplate a joke about a 14 year old girl getting knocked up shows that he is probably a pervert. I doubt he would ever say that about Obama’s girls. I stopped watching him long ago. his show sucks too. I can only hope Conan does not follow this route as he ages.

I don´t care for Sarah Palin or her politics, but she has every right to be furious at David Letterman´s loutish jokes. These sexual references are tasteless and demeaning. His comment about the stewardess was also insulting to flight attendants. I feel the same way about Jon Voight´s insulting language about the President at the GOP fundraiser. Some liberals and conservatives are wallowing in the pig sty in resorting to such crude and
ugly language. Can´t we declare a moratorium on this and use rational, civil discourse in airing our opinions and criticisms.

Hopefully Palin’s outrage at sexual exploitation will translate into legislative action for the women of Alaska. Alaska made number one in the number of rapes per capita.

Letterman’s comments were over the line. If he wants to do a Top 10 about Sarah, believe me…there is a ton of material to use. But to speak that way about her kids is just wrong. Apologize and move on.

This was an unfortunate blunder by Letterman. He should not have made any kind of sexual remark about either Palin girl or any young girl for that matter. However, Sarah Palin opened the door to every koo-koo and comedian in the country when she paraded her pregnant daughter and the boyfriend on stage every night like Barbie and Ken. She used her kids as campaigning tools now she cannot control the backlash. She is partly to blame for all the good or bad publicity her family experiences. I watched the show and frankly I am surprised the press is covering this. The only reason they are is because talk radio has of course been the ones to talk about it. Just like Hannity exposed Rev. Wright a year before the press would talk about it. Letterman has said he has a hard time making fun of Obama but yet he can demonize and castigate any conservative. He is just another left over hippie from the 60′s and a perfect example why Jay Leno (who will make fun of both sides) and now Conan Obrien will continue to clean his clock in the ratings. I’m pretty sure if Letterman made a joke like that about the Obama’s, they would know how to laugh it off. Plus, the big difference here is that Obama is President of the United States. And commenting that Bristol, got knocked up and is capable of being knocked up again outside of marriage is entirely true and plausible. Why did he even bother to clarify (he didn’t apologize as far as I can see). If the appropriateness of his “comedy” bothered him, he wouldn’t have made the jokes in the first place.

I used to love watching Letterman but over the past 5 or 6 years his jokes have become more and more politized and less and less funny. His jokes got old, unoriginal and redundant a long time ago. Letterman is way past “jumping the shark” and should just retire.

I think that the insinuation was that this family is a bit dysfunctional, not that it was rape or sexual exploitation of a minor, but that if she follow’s in her sister’s footsteps, she’ll be an unmarried Mother soon.

Letterman was out-of-line with the joke and his halfhearted apology was not sincere. Off-color remarks like his, coached as jokes, show the true character of the man and the organization that supports him. It doesn’t matter who makes these remarks, they are both crude and cruel. The sad part is that everyone really knows that……yet these kind of remarks are still being made. Unfortunately, nothing will be done to correct this behavior.

Today, Letterman is a ratings dud known more for his moody behavior swings off set and desperate need to be accepted by the likes of Al Franken. What a tremendous fall born of bitterness and professional failure. I was unaware that Palin came to the lower 48 to seek out the public spotlight. I thought she was here to attend a charity walk. If Letterman hadn’t made his crass comments, how many people would have even known she was here?
I seem to remeber the President’s children on stage speaking to their father via sattelite during the DNC. Do those of you who cite Palin “exploiting her children on the campaign trail” also feel the same way about the President and that he too should have left his children at home.
In today’s politically correct society is it appropriate to make derogatory statements about any woman’s personal appearance? Didn’t most of us stop using the word “slutty” after we graduated from college? Why is it okay for women to be the only segment of society who are fair game for personal attacks based on appearance?
I am confused, it’s okay for teenagers to get pregnant out of wedlock as long as they have an abortion but not okay if they keep the child? For those who laude giving children equal rights it should fall in line that they are their own person and make their own mistakes regardless of their parent’s viewpoint. If my daughter get’s preganant and has an abortion, does that make me pro-abortion? I was unaware that our beliefs are inextricably tied to the actions of our children.

I enjoy Letterman but he started to lose me during the last election. He made the same mistake that a few entertainers make. He made the jokes about individuals in the republican party personal. We can decide for ourselves which candidate we desire. Thank goodness our country allows satire, but the viewer can tell when the entertainer unashamedly has an agenda. Again, not his job! He is being paid to entertain – nothing more.

I stopped watching David Letterman years ago because he just wasn’t funny. I would rather watch The Daily Show or Colbert show.

I find that repulsive and ask all to consider the parallels to the “Imus coment issue”. Shouldn’t the village rise up to protect another victim? Isn’t this a very similar situation? I used to be a big fan of Letterman, but lost interest in the late 90′s when he was telling the same stupid jokes he was telling in the mid-80′s. The last few times I saw him it was painful. I think he checked out about 2002 and he’s just phoning it in. He comes across like a bitter old man with an axe to grind. In recent years he’s become a typical dim-witted, hate-filled leftist. I doubt I’ll ever watch another episode.

Anyone remember Don Imus? What a double standard. I personally am boycotting that network and any business I know that advertises with them until he is off the air. Enough is enough!

I find it interesting that Letterman’s defense about making salacious remarks regarding young girls is the quibble that he meant Bristol, and that an eighteen-year-old is of legal age. Try as Letterman will to disguise his bent, he has clearly exhibited by his sick joke the mark of a pervert. Few remember that in the very early years of Woody Allen’s career, Woody used to go on talk shows and make remarks about the breasts of the woman sitting next to him, or openly leer at them. Today, that would be enough to end his career. But Woody’s deep problems didn’t let him stop there; they progressed, and he made a movie (Manhattan) where he, an old guy, was having sex with a high school girl. Hey, it’s just a movie, right? Eventually, fantasy didn’t satisfy, and Woody was caught taking nude photos of an underage girl, the sister of his own son. Moral: Old guys who make salacious comments about young girls and then say, “Oh I was just kidding,” are closet perverts when it comes to kids. When Letterman made this joke there was some laughter which was replaced by applause. It sounds like the applause light was turned on to mask the fact that the joke was laying an egg.

I used to like David Letterman; I watched his show most of the time. Then it started to get routine and I stopped watching it all the time and just usually watched it long enough to hear the Top 10 list. That was usually funny. But lately, I haven’t even been watching that. I am sickened by his using comments that are so insulting to the Palins and women in general. They were beyond sickening. This incident has really changed my opinion of Letterman; he could have refused to use those insulting lines, but he didn’t. I admire Sarah Palin, Bristol, and the family. Yes, it was a sad thing for Bristol to become pregnant so young, but she’s taken responsibility for her actions, and Levi has not. There’s no reason to keep criticizing her. No doubt it was in poor taste, regardless of which daughter he was speaking of. When you cross the line like that, you have better be able to take the blow-back that comes your way as a result. My only question is this: Is he trying to say the Palin daughters are sluts or that A-Rod is a rapist? If the former, then is he saying all women that get pregnant out of wed-lock are sluts?

I believe Bristol is fair game for jokes. While Palin was compaining about family values her unwed teenage daughter got knocked up. They tried to save face by saying she was going to marry the baby’s father. Later they tried to improve the image even more by having her Bristol become a spokes woman for abstinence. Once Bristol started stepping into the spot light as a spokes woman for abstinence and started being more than just Sarah Palin’s daughter she became fair game for jokes (no matter if you agree with the jokes or not).
Obviously Letterman’s writers should have researched better to see that it was Willow at the ballgame instead of Bristol so the jokes got pointed wrong. Did he actually say he was sorry? No. He said he regrets the joke though.
Palin doesn’t make herself sound any better by saying “Plus, it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman.” Letterman didn’t ask Willow on the show. He asked her parents. Also just this is a slanderous comment that makes it sound like he is a pedophile. Making this type of comment makes her no better than Letterman.
As far as the Katie Couric interviews Palin made herself look bad. She was asked a simple question of what news media does she follow to keep up on current events. She was asked 3 times and still never answered it. She tried to turn it around and act like she was asked if she keeps up on current events cause she lives in Alaska. All Katie asked was what she read not what she read. Also by not doing more interviews and by not doing more press conferences she didn’t give herself a chance to change the image. After the election doing a interview at a Turkey slaughtering farm (after pardoning a Turkey) in front of where they slaughter Turkeys didn’t help, especially when she later said she didn’t know what was around her when she gave the interview.

I presumed the joke was in reference to Bristol. I had no idea which Palin daughter actually went to the Yankees game. To know that, I would have actually had to care, which I didn’t.
