Rev. Wright Blames “Them Jews” for Keeping President From Talking to Him

A reporter from the Daily-Press of Newport News, Virginia, caught up with President Obama's former mentor and pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, this week at the 95th annual Hampton University Ministers' Conference.

Asked if he's spoken to his former parishioner since he become President, Wright told David Squires, "them Jews ain't going to let him talk to me. I told my baby daughter that he'll talk to me in five years when he's a lame duck, or in eight years when he's out of office."

Wright said he would tell the president, if he could, to stay true to himself.

“He’s gotta do what politicians do,” Wright said. “Ethnic cleansing is going on in Gaza, “Ethnic cleansing the Zionist is a sin and a crime against humanity, and they don't want Barack talking like that because that's anti-Israel.”

Rev. Wright also said that “the Jewish vote, the A-I-P-A-C vote, that’s controlling him, that would not let him send representation to the Darfur Review Conference, that’s talking this craziness on this trip, cause they’re Zionists, they would not let him talk to someone who calls a spade what it is. “

(It should be noted that since his inauguration, President Obama has visited with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Saudi King Abdullah, Jordanian King Abdullah, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. It’s unclear what Rev. Wright would say to the President about the plight of the Palestinians that these Arab leaders would be unwilling to say.)

In his new book Renegade: The Making of a President, erstwhile Newsweek reporter Richard Wolffe writes about a secret meeting then-candidate Obama had with Rev. Wright during that period in which the fiery minister threatened to derail his then-parishioner's path to the Democratic presidential nomination.

"It was time to talk directly to Wright," Wolffe writes. "Obama’s friends at Trinity tried to talk their pastor out of his comeback tour. But by now the church was deeply divided between Obama supporters and Wright supporters, and the conversation was going nowhere. So the candidate decided to go see Wright himself in secret, in Chicago. First came the dance over where to meet: one intermediary suggested a neutral location, but Obama said he was happy to go wherever Wright wanted. They ended up talking at Wright’s home, and Obama tried to adopt the tone of a concerned friend giving advice. He did not want to tell his former pastor what to do, but he did want to nudge him in the right direction by making him aware of what was about to happen. Wright wasn’t heading for vindication; he was heading for vilification.

“'Look, you’re a pastor, you have your own role to play,' Obama said. 'But I can tell you how politics in the cable and blog age works. Here’s what you need to anticipate: that it’s going to be a media circus. But obviously, you need to do what you need to do.'

"Wright felt embattled and wanted to tell his side of the story to the rest of the world. He thanked Obama for his opinion, but looked and sounded like the aggrieved party.

"After Wright’s disastrous appearance at the National Press Club in Washington, and Obama’s swift decision to sever all ties with his former pastor, the campaign’s polling numbers showed a steep decline in Indiana.

"On the night before Indiana’s primary, Obama’s senior aides were convinced they were headed for outright defeat. 'How could someone I knew, someone I trusted, do this to me?' Obama said.

"Obama and his aides were proved wrong. They won North Carolina by fifteen points, lost Indiana by just one point, and beat Reverend Wright once and for all."

Ouch. None of this ever came out in the relationship? No clues ever given? No red flags raised?
There had to have been. I can understand overlooking them, that’s what friends do. We overlook the flaws of our friends. But to claim to have never seen them is just not genuine. I always said that Obama’s statement should have been he was my friend and I knew he had these flaws, but I overlooked them because he was my friend. I would have understood because we all do that. But to deny it just doesn’t make sense. Feels like he isnt being honest to himself or Rev. Wright.

I’d say given the events of yesterday, Reverend Wright is a very timely reminder.

KR:”But to claim to have never seen them is just not genuine.”
Could you cite specifically where Obama claimed to have never seen them? He spent a long time dancing around this issue, and he has lawyers feet for this sort of thing. I don’t recall him ever saying he never saw Wright’s more extreme views, and as the controversy was initially superficial and fabricated (a few very out of context quotes) I can see where confusion would occur (the initial flare up about Wright, a Marine, hating America was classic hit-piece politics).
I did see Obama talk about their friendship and the importance of the church to him. He never condemned the church to my knowledge, even when he left it.
“I make this decision with sadness,” said Mr. Obama, speaking in subdued tones as he stood before a bland background. “This is where I found Jesus Christ, where we were married, where our children were baptized. We are proud of the extraordinary works of that church.”
At any rate, we certainly know now that Wright holds far more pathetic views than harmless railing about policy blowback. And I doubt Obama will be spending much time with him in 5 or 8 years after Wrights deliberate backstabbing almost cost him the presidency.

Interesting that Obama’s argument wasn’t “You are wrong, your views are bigoted, and I’m sorry I listened to your rants for 20 years without speaking up sooner.”
The argument was just about how other people would see Wright (and how that would affect Obama).

Obviously this pastor is showing poor judgement at this time and he needs to bridle his tongue. He is no longer the pastor of that church and may be suffering from envy. His words are divisive and should not be associated with Obama.

Rev. Wright should not even be called a man of God. He leads people astray with his hate-filled retoric.
God loves all people and anyone who claims to be a Christian but spews hate towards others (especially God’s chosen people) does not really know the word of God at all.

Obama, the Second Comin – No, Pres. Obama attended his church! Not every Sunday I might add! My pastor turned out to be gay! And possibly molesting little boys, some of his delicate sermons touched on loving children. We didn’t get it! So, Pres. Obama should have known what was in Rev. Wrights heart when he wasn’t even there? How much do you want to bet, the Rev. will have a book coming out this summer?!

His hatred of Jews is very serious. This man is supposed to be a man of god.
And also, as an African-American he should be sensitive to what the Jews have gone thru. I can’t believe this man is such a maniac.

W/ all due respect, our President has called Wright his spiritual adviser, talked of how he couldn’t turn Wright away any more than he would turn away a family member, etc. Yet, it’s been common knowledge to anyone paying attention that these have been Wright’s feelings for years. In his sermons and otherwise. Now, was Obama there for every sermon? I would be shocked if he was. But for him to be a member of this church for two decades and claim to not know any of this about Wright shows that Obama is either incredibly dumb, or is lying. I’m not sure which is better in this case. Oh, and I’m not sure your pastor is apples and oranges here. Your pastor was lying about his personal views by talking of loving children. Now, if he came out and lobbied for the molestation of children during mass, or was out there defending pedofiles, then you’d have a fair comparison. I’m guessing that wasn’t the case.

There is a lot of hidden as well as overt anti-jewish sentiment in America, we should never be surprised by what face hate wears.
the Andy Griffith Show as his model for a platform? , altho’ I don’t remember old Andy referring to anyone as ‘that jew’. Maybe he should check out who was actually writing those scripts for Andy’s ‘values’ and most of the other 50’s TV shows.
•-> ‘Arkansas state Sen. Kim Hendren, who is currently the only announced Republican candidate for U.S. Senator against Democratic incumbent Blanche Lincoln in 2010, has apologized for referring to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) as “that Jew,” at a county Republican meeting last week.
“I don’t use a teleprompter and occasionally I put my foot in my month,” Hendren told Arkansas blogger Jason Tolbert. “At the meeting I was attempting to explain that unlike Sen. Schumer, I believe in traditional values, like we used to see on ‘The Andy Griffith Show,’” he explained.
“I made the mistake of referring to Sen. Schumer as ‘that Jew’ and I should not have put it that way as this took away from what I was trying to say.”

Wow the Rev. has amazing timing. Making an anti-semitic statement like this the same week a racist shoots a guard at the Holocaust museum. Obama sure had an interesting choice of a mentor during his years in Chicago.

Ignorance is worse when it comes under the guise of rightious ness and religion. Rev. Wright is every bit as guilty of racial intolerance as anyone has ever been against members of his race and religion.

The right wing is simply delusional.

Oh please, there is a significant constituency that thinks Israel is both inept for being unable to handle their own Palestinian problem (Perpetual occupation? Displacement over generations? Do they have any plan at all?) and not worth the investment. You can think Israel has inept policy and an incompetent government (I have a couple friends who live there and hold that opinion actually) without being at all anti-semetic.

“I’m thinking of Wright’s actual ignorant idiocy – his anti-semitism or the-government-made-AIDs nonsense.”
So you are saying he has seen these things? Obama said on a couple of occasions he never heard these things out of Wright (about the Sermons). So if it is a semantics game and he didn’t hear THOSE things exactly, are you saying that he probably did hear about his anti-semitism and aids claim? If he didn’t hear about the sermons, which were caught on tape being told to the congregation, his statement doesn’t apply to his anti-semitism statements he mostly likely has made. So did he know or not? He either did, or he did not. If he did not, it becomes hard to believe. If the guy has the courage to say it in the open like this, he wouldn’t say it behind closed doors or in private meetings? Doesn’t make any sense. Logic (of course without proof) is that Obama has heard these things from him. Now it leaves the question, did he confront him about it, or let it slide, or even the extreme… agree? No one can say but him, and none of them are very flattering politically. Obama is in a tough spot with this guy.

“Christians” like Rev. Wright also forget that the first Christians were Jewish. Jesus himself was a Jew. It just goes to show how off-base many of these religious leaders, like Wright, really are. Fortunately, there are many Christian churches that counter hateful pastors like Wright – most in fact appreciate that Christianity and Judaism are intertwined, with a shared history and a shared interest in protecting Israel.

Dear What: You might want to check your Bible because in Matthew 27:24-25 it says, 24 “When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”
25All the people answered, “Let his blood be on us and on our children!”
Of course, I don’t believe that any of this is accurately quoted, and most of it is a human-created fantasy, but if you accept the Bible account, then you definitely have to accept that it was the Jews, and not the Romans, who demanded that Jesus be killed.

Just like the gunman at the Holocaust Museum; Wright believes that Jews control everything.
He also believes that the USA developed HIV to wipe out people of color.
Rev Wright subscribes to Black Liberation Theology. It’s a little like Christianity, except that Jesus is Black, and His 1st concern is ‘liberating’ Blacks from their evil White ‘oppressors’.
It’s amazing that the good Rev. and so many of his followers could achieve so much with all the ‘oppression’ going on. Look at the Obamas, and what they achieved even before politics. Both Barak and Michelle were able to go to the best of schools.
Rev Wright lives like a king in a fabulous, well appointed home. He, too, was somehow able to get an education through all the ‘oppression’ going on.
I guess there’s good money in the business of ‘oppression’.
The Rev is just another nut case, and probably should be watched. That’s not the worst of it.
The worst of it is that our President sat listening to the hate and insanity
for over 20 years. This nut case is the mentor of Obama. This hate filled man was the trusted Rev who performed the Obama’s wedding, and baptized their daughters.
To say that Obama may have missed a sermon or two is a lame excuse. Obama knew this man well enough to call him a
family member, like an uncle. Obama knew what Wright stood for.

It is one thing to ask whether a particular lobby has undue influence or to question the allegiance of people with dual citizenship. You could do this for many lobbies and citizens of many different religions and backgrounds.
However, Wright’s language, such as “them Jews,” clearly show he is an anti-Semite. And no, I am not Jewish.

Rev. Wright is old and probably suffering from early stages of Alzheimer’s. He addressed the Black Baptist Convention and was a guest minister in my hometown for decades and I never heard him say the kinds of things he is saying now. I am shocked as I am sure president Obama is shocked. Remember, the President’s beloved mother and grandparents were WHITE so he would not have sat under a person spewing racist talk. Mr. Emmanuel would not be serving as Chief of Staff under the Obama administration away from his own wife and children for the last six months if he believed the president was anti Semitic in any way. I understand why the press keeps this going but Rev. Wright’s family should have him examined for dementia or other signs of illness because the times I heard him minister are different from what I am hearing now.
