Rev. Wright: I Meant to Say “Zionists” Are Keeping Me from Talking to President Obama — Not Jews
In an interview on a liberal satellite radio show, Rev. Jeremiah Wright attempted to clarify his comments to the Newport News, Virginia. Daily-Press about “them Jews” preventing him from speaking to President Obama.
“Let me say like Hillary, I misspoke,” Wright said. “Let me just say: Zionists.”
Wright said “I’m not talking about all Jews, all people of the Jewish faith, I’m talking about Zionists."
The president’s former mentor and pastor made the comments on the SIRIUS LEFT show “Make it Plain” with Mark Thompson. You can listen to his comments HERE.
Wright then criticized Israel, saying, “I quote Jews when I say this,” and referencing books by Jewish authors such as “Judaism Does Not Equal Israel: The Rebirth of the Jewish Prophetic” by Marc Ellis and “The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine” by Ilan Pappe.
“I’m talking about facts, historical facts,” Wright said. “I’m not talking about emotionally charged words or the fact that like Jimmy Carter’s book, that because he used the word that Jews use, ‘apartheid,’ he gets labeled anti-Semitic.”
“They can jump on that one phrase if they want to,” Wright said, “but they can’t, they can’t undo history. They can’t undo the facts of Jewish historians and Jewish theologians who write about what’s going on, who write about the enormous influence that AIPAC has on our government and on United States policy and the United Nations.”
(Wright did not identify who “they” was.)
In his original interview with the Daily-Press, Rev. Wright was asked if he’d spoken to President Obama since his inauguration.
"Them Jews ain't going to let him talk to me," Wright said. "I told my baby daughter that he'll talk to me in five years when he's a lame duck, or in eight years when he's out of office.”
Wright said he would tell the president, if he could, to stay true to himself.
“He’s gotta do what politicians do,” Wright said. “Ethnic cleansing is going on in Gaza, “Ethnic cleansing the Zionist is a sin and a crime against humanity, and they don't want Barack talking like that because that's anti-Israel.”
Rev. Wright also said that “the Jewish vote, the A-I-P-A-C vote, that’s controlling him, that would not let him send representation to the Darfur Review Conference, that’s talking this craziness on this trip, cause they’re Zionists, they would not let him talk to someone who calls a spade what it is. “
(It should be noted that since his inauguration, President Obama has visited with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Saudi King Abdullah, Jordanian King Abdullah, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. It’s unclear what Rev. Wright would say to the President about the plight of the Palestinians that these Arab leaders would be unwilling to say.)

I’m not sure how that makes it better. What Zionists are so close to Obama that they can tell him not to call his former pastor?
And why do the so-called Zionists want to keep Obama from Wright?
And what was Obama doing being so close to Wright for 20 years?

These new lies from Wright demonstrate perfectly how it has become acceptable among certain hate groups to be openly anti-Semitic in this country — by veiling it as “legitimate” criticism of “Zionists” or the Israeli government. I’m shocked at how much hate I hear being spewed by “progressives” in the last several years. As they have become more fascistic and tried to shut down dissenting viewpoints, they have become more open in their cynically and thinly veiled anti-Semitism. The US is starting to resemble 1930′s Germany more and more each day.

It ain’t the Jews keeping him from talking to Obama. It ain’t the Zionists keeping him from talking to Obama. Obama knows this idiot is bad news and Wright is physically incapable of keeping from sticking his own foot in his mouth….repeatedly.

I firmly believe the media created the stupid “he’s anti-American” circus around Wright by hammering snippets of a relatively complex sermon out of context. But reading these comments of his in a bit of context along with his followup weaseling, I think he sounds like a prejudiced conspiracy theorist nut job. (And I like AIPAC about as much as my liberal self likes the NRA.)

Note to Reverend Wright– honey, stop digging.
I know, he just can’t help himself. He is a hot mess, isn’t he?
And no, I do not hold his recent rantings against the president. President Obama is wise to keep his distance and I think Wright is dead wrong when he claims that once Obama doesn’t have to worry about re-election, they will be communicating again.
Posted by: moderate | June 11, 2009, 3:54 pm 3:54 pm
So, this doesn’t raise any flags or concerns? I mean, Wright was only Obama’s pastor for TWENTY years, marrie dhim and Michelle, baptized his two daughters.
Wright has ALWAYS spoken and preached like this, and we can see the results in the pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel stance the administration has taken very recently.
This should scare the hell out of all of us. We need Israel as an ally in the mid-east and we’re shunning them as quickly as possible and getting cozy with the lil’ Hitler of Iran.
**************************************
O.K. WHY should anybody be “scared” if what he’s saying is true? Isn’t he saying they control Obama? Isn’t that a hint that it means unlike what republicans are trying to say Obama will indeed protect our interests in Israel? You have this backwards and it makes no sense.

Rev. Wright is old and probably suffering from early stages of Alzheimer’s. He addressed the Black Baptist Convention and was a guest minister in my hometown for decades and I never heard him say the kinds of things he is saying now. I am shocked as I am sure president Obama is shocked. Remember, the President’s beloved mother and grandparents were WHITE so he would not have sat under a person spewing racist talk. Mr. Emmanuel would not be serving as Chief of Staff under the Obama administration away from his own wife and children for the last six months if he believed the president was anti Semitic in any way. I understand why the press keeps this going but Rev. Wright’s family should have him examined for dementia or other signs of illness because the times I heard him minister are different from what I am hearing now.

I agree 100% because it might enable people to have an awareness of the times Rev. There was no “misspoken statement”. He said what he meant and meant what he said. In my eyes, Wright is just as bad as James von Brunn. If MLK could speak to today’s so-called pastors and civil rights leaders, I am sure he would reprimand them for all they do in his name.

ric, the Israeli Arab conflict ranks about 50th in the world in deaths since 1945; about 100,000 killed both sides in 80 years. Compare that with just about any other conflict you care to name and explain your pound for pound theory.

That AIPAC is the most powerful lobbiest is a fact, and that zionist Jews, doesn’t speak for all Jews. Two things we must get rid of in our nation, to bring peace in the world. 1. that is religious, cultural and racial prejudice 2. Equal rights-Justice for all, which means we must all play by the same rules. Zionism was a political decision, one that American Government is responsible for, and there is history on this. Fact is, Truman only cared about votes, not about what would happen with the Palestinians. Israel has robbed land from its neighbors, not only Palestine but Golen hts. Its broken more UN mandates than any other nation. We all must play by the same rules. We cannot allow our allies to violate laws which we condemn, and punish other nations for much less.Call it whatever you want, but, if there isn’t fairness, we’ll never be able to have peace, and we cannot harm others without it harming us too.

One could say he has realized a dream or at least a life most of us will never have yet he seems so full of hatred for some of his fellow man and doesn’t seem to fond of the American way of life. So is Wright saying Obama is in the pocket of the Jews? It seems that way.
Wright has a long history of quotes in which he condemns Jews. This is as much a slip of the tongue as if a KKK member said “I didn’t mean to use the N word. I meant Obama is our first black president”.
Come on, Wright is a racist, and Obama distanced himself precisely for that reason. Otherwise he would have had trouble winning the election. In fact the Trinity Church is a racist church and the new Reverend Moss is almost as bad.
Posted by: Brian Macker | June 12, 2009, 12:49 am 12:49 am
Obviously Wright is off his rocker, and likely has been for quite a while.
However, it was clear last March, and even clearer now, that this kind of toxic racial divisiveness and resentment was at the core of Wright’s beliefs and the purpose of his church. That Obama was a member of this church for nearly two decades and a self-described acolyte of Wright while remaining ignorant of this defies reason.
This kind of relationship would have sunk just about any other candidate or political figure. But in the media’s hands, Wright’s backwards racial prejudice was portrayed as mainstream, and Obama’s self-protecting speech on the matter hailed as the greatest speech since Gettysburg, despite its almost immediate obsolescence a few weeks later.
I doubt Obama shares Wright’s contemptible beliefs, but it’s amazing to me that we still don’t know why Obama remained a loyal member of the church for so long.

Reverend Wright, is an opportunity for the dead opportunist to voice their oponion. Everytime the product of hundreds of years of trauma based slavery raises it’s left hand, it is cut off by the adepts, eager to reach the pinnacle of power. Baptist Preachers have always sounded the alarm, shedding light on the shadow of slavery. Today’s baptist preachers have compounded the issues in the political arena. Reverend Wright’s giant scary shadow sheds light on the light bearer our real slavers. Quickly they rush to overpower the misplaced distress signal. Instead of casting a light on hypocrasy they reveal their true intentions lobbying for truth with torture. REmember, the blood of our ancestors calls for redemption. The moustache looks the same, whether
on Hitler or ‘Revered’ Wright…and Obama is his Albert Speer (“I didn’t
know anything wrong was going on,
I just went with the flow..”).
Obama and Wright and all their acolytes
are a disgrace to the United States, humanity and African-Americans..
Martin Luther King would have scolded
this man…and harshly…..
When there are so many honorable
people, many of whom are Black, like
Bill Cosby, Clarence Page (journalist),
Thomas Sowell (conservative economist
and academic), Grant Hill (basketball
player and naval officer), Alan Page
(former Vikings linebacker and Minnesote
Supreme Court judge), all of them
far more qualified to lead this country
than Obama, it is appaling to look
at the collective idiocy that elected
this “shuck and jive” (to accurately
quote Bill Clinton)….

Mr. Wright is in fact correct although not politically correct with the mainstream.
Zionism is not the same thing as Judaism; the policies of Zionism are inherently racist.
There is the Old Testament and the New Testament. White people (of which I am one, and Southern to boot), particularly those of the fundamentalist category, conveniently forget that according to their own holy book Israel is in a ‘fallen’ state at the current time until it turns from it’s ways and accepts the Messiah, according to the book of Revelation.
Zionism is a political movement of man, not representative of a whole religion or it’s adherents although it certainly claims to be…these are actually components of what is described to come as the spirit of the Antichrist; that equates itself with G-d and his works. It is not the work of G-d, it is a work of the hubris of man. Fundamentalists supporting Zionism should go back and reread the good book for themselves.
I suppose a negative opinion of Zionism can only be successfully pointed out by other Jews…I just get tired of people blind to the difference between Zionism and Judaism. It’s like having any extreme religious sect claiming it represents all of that religion and culture and people, and it doesn’t.

Zionism, in this sense, is the elephant in the room which the West must not criticize lest it be accused of anti-semitism
(a term which was once meant to refer to ALL people of Middle Eastern descent…not just Jewish people, particularly not of European descent)
Our reason is held hostage by the events of WWII of which we dare not allow to be repeated and we are never allowed to forget…and yet on the opposite end of the spectrum, a reactive and self-protective racism which goes by another name continues the working of this same spirit in the world.

Doesn’t it just make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing that Wright was Obama’s mentor.
The tingling in my leg must be the same as Chris Mathews’.

Rev. Wright is sick just like Rush and Hannity. He just has a different paint job.

Seeing leftist posters talk about vast Jewish conspiracies is astonishing. Goes to show racism isn’t the sole property of any spolitical party or ideology. Next time I see a lefty say anything about racism, I am going to cut/paste some of these posts.

I cannot believe this is getting so little press. After the shooting in the Holocaust Museum and all the talk about this type of prejudice. Once again a double standard.

I for one don’t see a thing in the world wrong with what Rev.Wright says.As long as the truth and things people need to hear is swept under the rug all of you that have a problem with what Rev. Wright says is fine.Personally I think some of the hateful comments made on this messageboard since Obama won the election is worse than what Rev.Wright said.

The Jewish population in the U.S. is a little over 5 million (as of 2006). To put this in perspective a little bit, the African-American population is over 40.7 million (as of 2007); the Hispanic population 45.5 million (as of 2007); and caucasian population over 200 million.

Most racists will not see anything wrong with what Wright said. Most racists will agree with him whole-heartedly.

Anti-Semites just love to lie and say, “Oops, I didn’t Jews, I meant Israelis.” Wright is a racist, bigoted, anti-Semite. And all those left-wing, liberal, self-hating that voted for Y’Obama are going to get screwed in the end.

Millions of people go to the polls for the purpose of preventing their fellow citizens from enjoying full civil rights.
Men professing to be ministers of the Gospel of Christ create camps where children are taught to “defend their faith” with violence.

Fascinating how none of the racists/terrorists leftys are quoting had a direct connection to the POTUS for 20 years. But you keep that moral equivalency going. It helps you look in the mirror everyday and tell yourself how wonderful and right you are while everyone who thinks other than you is a moron.

This guy is a racist and bigot same as the kook who shot up the holocaust museum…they are a cancer in our society that must be eradicated for us to move forward…unfortunately I see a will to do it on one side but defening silence on the “wright”side

racist is one thing discriminating is something too; doing people wrong because of there race color ect. Is something too.
Right is right wrong is wrong Jesus said you have the poor… do for them…that mean help them leave rev wright alone think what you say he was wright about many of you. why obama can not address the race problem in america but he can go all the way to Europe and address the jews loss in Europe but will not help the blacks in the united states like he should.

That pinging sound you hear is Wright’s screws continuing to fall out his head. What a pathetic crab in the barrel is he.
I intentionally left out Rev because he gets not reverance from me. But Hannity loves him so much so that he decided to open up his show with this incoherrent rant that wright made.
I would venture to say that Obama does not want to see this crackpot ever again. He would get a clue when Obama disowned him last year.
About that sleazebag Hannity, he rails against Letterman when he himself invited the kook minister on his show that demeaned obama’s deceased parents. He basically called them ####. Letterman is a comedian, this guy was a minister.
Wright and Hannity are pathetic

Whether it’s Rev. Wright and his rant, or Pat Robertson advocating killing Hugo Chavez, and Hurricane Katrina was gods punishment, or Jerry Falwell saying that America deserved 9/11 ….
or the Vatican hiding and covering for the ped priests for hundreds of years
Religious hypocrites are exactly that, they proclaim the ‘good word’ and spread hate and division. you just have to look at who represents the ‘faithful’ and see how much cash they’re asking you to fork over to support their luxury life styles.
re: ‘racists/terrorists”
you should at least make a small effort to understand the difference between very hateful, uncomfortable protected speech and right-wing murderer/intimidation squads using religion and the constitution as a justification for their atrocities.

I’d like to point out that what Rev. Wright said and the nut who shot up the Holocaust Memorial are utterly and completely different. What Wright said was basically no different from the pundits who say that it will be difficult for the Republicans to fight the Sotomayor appointment because they need the latino vote. The nut who shot up the Memorial talked about Jews controlling the banks and media – you know, the same anti-semitic b.s. that hasn’t changed since Henry Ford wrote “The International Jew.” Wright talked about the absurd influence of AIPAC and other Zionist lobby groups who defend the apartheid Israeli regime by smearing critics as anti-semites. Wright has said some nasty things, but this one was just poorly timed and badly worded.

Wow, he’s baaa-aack!! This old doofus is one of the reasons we had misgivings about Barack Obama. How can ANYONE sit in that “church” for 20 years and NOT be anti-American and anti-Semiite? As far as we know Barack Obama never at any time objected to the hate-filled rants this man made from the pulpit for all those years. NOw we are finding out that Barack Obama met, secretly, with the Reverend during the campaign. Why wasn’t this investigated by the MSM? Oh…..never mind……we already know.

Didn’t Mel Gibson get into a lot of trouble some years ago for a similar comment ??
Is the Reverend going to go into rehab also?

Senator Barack Obama’s Announcement for President
Springfield, IL | February 10, 2007:
My work took me to some of Chicago’s poorest neighborhoods. I joined with pastors and lay-people to deal with communities that had been ravaged by plant closings. I saw that the problems people faced weren’t simply local in nature – that the decision to close a steel mill was made by distant executives; that the lack of textbooks and computers in schools could be traced to the skewed priorities of politicians a thousand miles away; and that when a child turns to violence, there’s a hole in his heart no government alone can fill.
It was in these neighborhoods that I received the best education I ever had, and where I learned the true meaning of my Christian faith………The understanding of one’s faith doen’t alway come from church that one belongs to but by the experience of personal life, thus this is where the President begin to understand about Christian faith.

of Senator Barack Obama’s Announcement for President
Springfield, IL | February 10, 2007:
It was here, in Springfield, where I saw all that is America converge – farmers and teachers, businessmen and laborers, all of them with a story to tell, all of them seeking a seat at the table, all of them clamoring to be heard. I made lasting friendships here – friends that I see in the audience today.
It was here we learned to disagree without being disagreeable – that it’s possible to compromise so long as you know those principles that can never be compromised; and that so long as we’re willing to listen to each other, we can assume the best in people instead of the worst…………..I personally find this last paragragh to give me some understanding of the man who would become president, the statement “so long as you know those principles that can never be compromised”quote, one can understand why someone who is willing to listen and be in the presents of different negative contacts but never compromising your principles, all of us know someone like Rev.Wright, we know them but are not like them.

Rev. Wright is a HATER at heart. Face it, our country is being run by liars, thieves, and bullies. If any conservative said these things they would be torn into bits. BHO has no values, character, or honor. Anyone who would sit through this piece of junk “REV” sermons has to be a hater. BHO was raised by his Grandparents who were white? Yet he listens to a man who is a prejudging hater for 20 years. God help our country! Vote him out in 2012!!!!!!

That’s been proven to be miscredited to Mr. King. He NEVER said that NOR was it in any letter he wrote. It is a fabrication. Zionism isn’t healthy for living organisms period.

At least SOMEBODY is calling a spade a spade. The American and Canadian governments have been usurfed by zionists. Zionism is terrorism. It’s refreshing to hear an educated, sensible politician speaking plainly about reality. Especially in an ear where the zionists have such a stranglehold on our media.
