Sanford in April: No ‘Grand Plans’ Because ‘Anything in Life Can Happen’

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: Back in April, my colleague John Hendren interviewed Gov. Mark Sanford, when his biggest political worry was a fight with the state legislature over stimulus funding. Hendren asked Sanford, R-S.C., whether he would run for president — and his response takes on a certain irony in light of today’s revelation. Said Sanford: “No, I mean what I’ve said is consistently, anything in life can happen. It is absolutely not my intent, not my goal, and not my aim. And I’m very specific about trying to live each day as best I can, based on the day before me. I mean, my dad got Lou Gehrig’s Disease when I was in high school. He died when I was in college. We went through the dying process. When he died, I built the coffin. My brothers dug the grave. We buried him underneath a couple of big oak trees out at the farm, and the one thing that became absolutely clear to me in that passage [to] me is the day you got is the day you got. And all these people who make these grand plans are very much confused about the way life really works.”
