Take Two Town Halls and Call Congress in the Morning

Ann Compton reports: President Obama has scheduled two more town hall meetings to explain health care reform, on the heels of his primetime appearance on ABC  News  last Wednesday.      The White House has made it official  00  there will be second town hall  this  Wednesday in suburban Virginia, a short commute from the White House.  President Obama has announced there will  also be a third town hall in the Detroit area which has been so hard hit financially by the auto industry bankruptcies.  That is scheduled for July 14th, after the president returns from a scheduled foreign trip to the G8 summit, Moscow for nuclear arms reduction talks, and Accra, Ghana, his first presidential visit to Africa. This week's townhall is called a "national" event, soliciting questions online through Facebook,  Twitter, and  YouTube.

Shouldn’t this headline read: Obama schedules 2 Lying to the public sessions and tells Congress to get busy to pass my Marist agenda

Does he ever work in his office? I thought the campaigning was over. Typical politician.

I have no problem if he is out of the White House meeting people, etc… the day to day job of running the government falls on the shoulders of his political appointees and career bureaucrats. He is responsible for what happens, but at least he is not hiding in the White House like he did in the first week of the Iran demonstrations. It is interesting to see how he has handed over the detail work of his agenda to those in congress. He did that with the stimulus bill and they created a stinking pile of pork and special interests handouts. Now he is willing to do the same with his national health plan which would be the defining policy of his presidency if it weren’t for how badly he is screwing up the economy. Thank God that congress is so incompetent that they will be unable to muster the needed votes to get it passed with a public health option. It will still be bad, but at least it can be reversed, which would be unlikely if a huge entitlement like a public health insurance plan paid for by extreme taxes on the productive members of society.

Mr. President, I feel very assured seeing you work so hard for the good of America and your positive loving image as our first family.

He has broken all of his promises and become Bush 3. This is not what I voter for. Furthermore, he has done nothing to help CA and we are at the mercy of a barbarian with Austrian values circa 1939-1945. If you think that wrecking CA’s economy won’t reverberate throughout the country, then you don’t know anything about economics.
Obama ignores us now and we will ignore him in 2010. All of my misgivings about him turned out to be true. Thanks rich libs for screwing up yet again. The working class saw through The One right away. We should have listened.

“Mr. President, I feel very assured seeing you work so hard for the good of America and your positive loving image as our first family.”
“Mr. President”? Didn’t you mean to write “Dear Leader”? No? Oh, I’m sorry…I read that and thought that I had wandered into the North Korean edition of Political Punch.

Apparently town halls are necessary because the press not reporting on Obama’s plans for health care. Of course, the press cannot report on Obama’s plans because even Obama does not know the details of his plans.
It’s up to congress to make the legislation for Obama, and he will only approve or reject what they do, as long as the legislation does not do “nothing”. He would like to use the townhall to vaguely discuss legislation that he did not propose, for the benefit of the people.
What expertise does Obama have, and why not get doctors and patients to debate health care, instead of the President? Doesn’t he have better things to do, rather than focus the country on himself all the time?

In Obama’s midday presser, he used California as a great example of how the rest of the country would benefit from cap-n-tax. I admit to being a little shocked that he would use a state that is on the brink of bankruptcy and is issuing or will begin issuing IOUs because they are broke. But hey. California, here we all come.

Really? Please provide the ACTUAL QUOTE that supports your hypothesis that he was pointing to California as where cap and trade will head America. He did point out how cap and trade would help their economy, but I strongly suspect your paraphrase is a blatant lie. Why don’t you post his actual words and let those reading decide?

Every day the same hate spammers in here to use name-calling, insult and distortions to smear the President.
“Does he ever work in his office?”, “Didn’t you mean to write “Dear Leader”?, “Shouldn’t this headline read: Obama schedules 2 Lying to the public sessions and tells Congress to get busy to pass my Marist agenda”, “at least he is not hiding in the White House like he did in the first week of the Iran demonstrations” . . .
This is what passes for intelligent political discussion? Fortunately most Americans don’t even see this sloganeering and insult here, and those that do see through it for what it is.
Smear and fear attempts.

Guess the ABC debacle was a big BUST so Dear Leader has to have more time to spread his propaganda. I won’t be watching. It was hard enough to watch the first hour of obfuscation and lies from this “president.”

If it’s already out there, I’ll see if I can find the actual quote. I’m not spending a lot of time looking for it though. He said it. If you think he wouldn’t be stupid enough to use California as a great example, then by all means, ignore me.

Yeah, you wouldn’t want “most Americans” to see what people outside of the left-wing controlled media are really thinking and saying, would you? They might actually begin to question things or think for themselves.
But wouldn’t you be proud to have people see your work and how far you’re coming along in your training? A little Acorn growing into a sappy sapling.

paul . ..
Most americans seeing the sloganeering and insults being posted here by your ilk would see it for exactly what it is – cheap shot smear and fear attempts.
Try using logic instead of name calling and insults. You might get more respect from people.

Axey . ..
You can call me whatever you want. I will call you whatever I see.
Using hate spamming, name calling and insults to smear the President is a different thing. Pity you can’t see that.

Listening to that now famous interview posted on SFGATE about the costs of the energy plan, then Presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama said that he would call nurses, doctors, health care companies, pharmaceutical companies, and representatives of Congress together, so all could be heard and… it would all be broadcast on C-SPAN.
Maybe I missed that one. It’s possible he did it, but I missed it. Does anyone know if that happened? I’d like to hear what those interest groups had to say.

I’ve never called you anything. Or anyone else around here. I don’t use insults. But I get deleted far more often than you do. Go figure.

Never mind, I found it. There were 4 of them held by the Senate Finance Committee and they are archived on C-SPAN.
Carry on…

Ryan_C,
So by your logic…Obama is now a Right-Winger!
Sorry, you wanted him, you lefties KEEP him!

“And, now, just last Friday, the House of Representatives came together to pass an extraordinary piece of legislation that will finally open the door to decreasing our dependence on foreign oil, preventing the worst consequences of climate change, and making clean energy the profitable kind of energy. Thanks to members of Congress who were willing to place America’s progress before the usual Washington politics, this bill will create new businesses, new industries, and millions of new jobs, all without imposing untenable new burdens on the American people or America’s businesses. In the months to come, the Senate will take up its version of the energy bill, and I am confident that they too will choose to move this country forward.”
By Ryan’s logic, he wasn’t talking about cap and trade here either. He didn’t mention cap and trade, did he?

Looks like Axey and James Danley got the same talking points.
James was kind of enough to post the actual quote.

I think its good President Obama is doing these townhall meetings.
We all remember how President Bush would hole up for month after month at a time without holding even a news conference – that was his form of ‘communication’ with the people of the United States.
One does wonder if it’s politically wise for President Obama to be so accessible, but its admirable he is willing to come forward and face questions from both the media and the town halls.

I always was intrigued by how our English cousins handle this and how the Prime Minister has a question and answer period before Parliament.

Here is the exact quote:
“In the late 1970s, the state of California enacted tougher energy-efficiency policies. Over the next three decades, those policies helped create almost 1.5 million jobs. And today, Californians consume 40 percent less energy per person than the national average — which, over time, has prevented the need to build at least 24 new power plants. Think about that. California — producing jobs, their economy keeping pace with the rest of the country, and yet they have been able to maintain their energy usage at a much lower level than the rest of the country.”
Isn’t it interesting that he is touting California’s great job of cutting energy consumption WITHOUT CAP-AND-TRADE! So why must we have cap-and-trade?

If only to return to the actual topic of the news article above . ..

James Danley:”Isn’t it interesting that he is touting California’s great job of cutting energy consumption WITHOUT CAP-AND-TRADE! So why must we have cap-and-trade?”
Republicans would never accept the top down regulation that led to California’s success at cutting energy consumption so dramatically. Cap and trade is the free-market approach. California used the central command and control approach (a rather large code set).

Posted by: jhw539 | June 29, 2009, 5:08 pm 5:08 pm

Yes, California is the state that the whole nation should be emulating right now. No jobs, no money, huge oil supplies that they refuse to tap, but damned if the air isn’t fresh.

I’m glad President Obama is willing to hold news conferences to face questions from the media and at these town halls. It shows he is willing to put himself on the line with the American people.
Don’t forget President Bush would hole up for month after month refusing to submit himself to questioning at news conferences nor town halls. He refused to do anything but ‘issue statements’.
A marked improvement.

Canada Sees Boom in Private Health Care Business
Facing long waits and substandard care, a growing number of Canadians are willing to pay for health treatment, leading to a booming private business in Canada — a country often touted as a successful example of a universal health system.

Posted by: kmday | July 1, 2009, 11:08 am 11:08 am

Danita? Face questions from the media? What questions are those, all the pretty not-so-hard questions that he has been given in advance?
How about he take some off-the-cuff questions from REAL LIFE AMERICANS who see their private health care become taxed if they do not belong to a Union, or their private health care choice disappear all together.
Some will in fact lose their private health care, all but those belonging to unions will be taxed on their private health care if they keep it and 35+ million will STILL BE UNINSURED.
Take a look at Hawaii dear, they had to do away with the universal health care coverage for merely children because it was bankrupting the state and people were abusing it.
Take a look at Canada-they are now seeing a rising boom in private health care because their citizens are tired of waiting 6months to a year for simple procedures like MRI’s or hip replacements for 45 year olds….the list here of course goes on-and-on-and-on.
But sure, I am sure most of Americans are stupid enough to believe that those hard hitting questions that the pretty little media will ask of Obama will be in the best interest of the common citizen………LOL
he could not even answer a surgeons questions properly-ABC had to give poor little Obama a commercial break so that he could gather as to how he could answer the doctors question.
