VP Biden Keeping the Door Open for 2016?

ABC News' Karen Travers reports: In an interview on Meet the Press this weekend, Vice President Joe Biden seemed to leave the door open for another presidential run. “But you won’t rule it out that you’ll think about being president,” NBC’s David Gregory asked the vice president. “No, I won’t. I won’t rule that out. No,” said Biden, who mounted unsuccessful campaigns for the White House in 1988 and in 2008 before being tapped as Barack Obama’s running mate. Gregory did not ask him if he would rule out running for president, but Biden’s answer seems to conflict with reporting that last fall, he told then-Senator Obama that he had ruled out another presidential run. So has Biden changed his mind? An aide indicated Monday that all options are on the table. “He’s focused on the job he’s doing now. And so are we. We do not wake up every morning thinking, ‘What can we do today to get the vice president elected seven years from now?’” said Biden spokesman Jay Carney. “It’s not something we’re thinking about. But there’s no reason to rule anything in or out for 2016." But if Biden chooses to not make a third attempt at the presidency, it does not mean he will go quietly into the Wilmington night when the administration is over. “This does not mean categorically that there is no political future for Joe Biden,” a White House official said, adding that there is no chance that Delaware Blue Hen will fully retire from public life and it would be crazy to rule him out as a presidential candidate, given his experience as a former senator and vice president. For now, Biden, who would be 74 years old on Inauguration Day 2017, is focused on his role in the White House and how he can play a part in the big policy debates and decisions. “He’s fully aware that there is no such thing as a successful vice president in an unsuccessful administration,” the White House official said. -Karen Travers

Me thinks we need a president from neither the republican or democratic parties. Is this even possible?

Good! I like Joe Biden he is a very qualified man and he would make an awesome president. Go Joe!

I’m not sure which is more ridiculous: Biden considering a run in 2016 (and thinking he could actually win) or that David Gregory wasted airtime asking the question (not that NBC airtime is worth much).

Well, Ok Joe. Your a good man, but, um please think before you speak or WWIII could start! Go for it Joe!

NBC is a pathetic excuse for journalism. Joe Biden as VP scares me, much less as POTUS. I just pray every day that Obama stays healthy.

What a deluded fool. He has about two brain cells to rub together, he’s a known liar and plagiarist and half of the reason he and his corrupt partner got in the WH this time was thanks to their bigotted smear of McCain as old — and therefore incompetant and or near death.
Absolutely hypocritical and with a deluded sense of self worth. He’d probably win the Dem nomination in a landslide.

This all presumes that the Democrats won’t fight Obama’s re-nomination for 2012. Given the rate he is alienating people, I suspect that is a distinct possibility. In any case, there are too many controversial things going one – any one of which can and will derail the president’s hopes for re-election, let alone Biden’s.
Let’s just say that its going to be a very long 4 years.

Maybe he should just stick to thinking about the job he has now.

Sometimes you can leave the barn door open and the horse still won’t run out.

Why would Vice-President Joe Biden be a poor choice for President?? Just look toward the comments…No one refers to VP Biden by the title in which he holds, it’s either Joe, Biden, Joe Biden. A general lack of respect based upon his ummm character traits…He just doesn’t invite respect….

Biden is living in a pipe dream. Obama will attempt to get Congress to get rid of term limits for President so he can run forever!
Well that’s what Hugo Chavez is trying to do anyway. Since they are buddies maybe they are passing notes.

This author is baiting you. I can’t think of a more qualified and better person to be U.S. President in 2016 than Joe Biden. He could do the job now and will be even better qualified in 2016 if that’s possible. I love Biden. To the disrespectful poster who seems to think that calling Mr. Biden Joe is demeaning in any way, boy you need to think again. We’ve known Joe Biden for many years and not only does he insist you call him Joe, it is the most comfortable thing in the world and only refers to him as being what any US President should be…one of the people. A very special person of course, which is why he became one of our most powerful Senators and VP. But Biden is total Americana, and as exceptional as he is, Joe is one of the people. Yup, I’d vote for him in a heartbeat as many would, but he will not run in 2016. Please, view the interview for yourselves; it was a wonderful interview, full a great information aside from this faux news.
