2 Prez Obama: Questions Sent in Via Text, Email from Africa & the World

Sunlen Miller Reports:  As the President is addressing parliament in Ghana today, the White House has solicited questions and comments from across the globe for President Obama.

After collecting thousands of comments submitted via SMS, email and comments on partner websites from over 75 countries a few of them have been submitted to the White House website. Many of the questions, given the topic of President Obama's last stop in Ghana after a 7-day trip abroad, came from various countries in Africa.

Not surprising, some of the comments are glowing:

From Ghana: “Obama, as a young lady I dream of being the President. U r huge encouragement to me, showing that a President can be human honest.Thk u welcome to my beautiful country”

From South Africa: “…I think you are a great man and are destined to be a great leader. I may only be 21 but i love to watch you speak it makes me feel inspired. We long for social change, i want to be a part of it.”

From Ghana: “Hi prez obama u are a source of inspiration to africa.”

Many of the comments indicated great suffering in Africa, and showed people reaching out to the American president for help in their own countries:

Swaizland: Mr president im proud of you!my request is 4you to facilitate the finding of the drug that cures hiv aids we are dying like flies thanks 4the aids arv

From Tanzania: Obama please take action to stop the genocide in Darfur

Nigeria: Dearest President Obama/Nigeria is a very corrupt country with very callous leaders mindless of the suffering of the masses. We have no electricity, no water, no roads

South Africa: Please get black Africans to accept the fact that whites born in Zimbabwe are also Africans and are entitled to keep their land they legitimately acquired.

And some indicate that they had preferred for President Obama to use his first trip to sub-Saharan Africa to highlight a country that needs help, rather than highlight a country like Ghana that the White House uses as a model for other African countries.

United Kingdom: Dear Mr President, I am a Nigerian living in the UK. We are disappointed that you have not chosen Nigeria as your first African point of call. The feeling is that this may be due to our flawed election and the setbacks in our pioneering efforts against corruption. Is this correct? Bearing in mind that every 6th Black person in Nigerian and the example of China, do you support Nigeria as one of the next permanent members of the UN security council?

President Obama will field a few of these questions, and his responses will be posted on the White House’s website on Monday.

I just want Obama to remember that, as he reminds the world that all countries are equal and the US does not hold itself above other countries, the reason he has the platform he does is because of all America does and is.
America makes him special.

MayBee . ..
President Obama has often said the United States is a beacon to the rest of the world, to show what can be accomplished when people work together under democracy; he speaks with great pride of America – on the other hand he hasn’t called it flawless either. I think this is honest and true. Better than pasting things over with lies and arrogance.
I believe he’s a VERY proud American and is very proud of the emancipation that took place in America – another beacon to the world.

I used to think Politics was for the dirty until i followed your campaign to the white house. What an outstanding campaign you ran.
Because of you, i am considering starting from the grassroot to help my motherland and eventually attaining the highest position to help uplift my Country’s(Nigeria) image.
Thank you for all you stand for and mean to me and a Human being.
May God continue to bless and protect you and your lovely family.

I was very impressed that President Obama did not try to “sugar coat” his speech while in Africa. He was blunt, true, and passionate about the corruption and the senseless tribal wars that claim innocent lives in Africa. He was the right messenger with the right message. He talked about the responsibility that we Africans owe to ourselves, and not to look to the west for a hand out. I was extremely impressed about president Obama’s candor—telling it like it is.

To the President of the United State of America , if it were not for the American to bring generation to the USA there would not be a black President today, just as mnay killed in Iraq and in other wars for a better way of life. I hurt for my best freind is and now dead black and black folk help me in life and me them. but I know they not just pack up and leave the USA to go back to Africa or be there again, Many black were treated good as well as bad but good too and many had a roof over head and food and part of a family with love. Maybe in its sad way yet not it was a blessing for that to happen for then what no black President. ??? Praise the lord he is a lover of us all no matter which race or greed or Nation we live in, God bless you have a nice vacation and I tell my children this as well. not put it on that white are so bad to the pas of the generation. in life even if bad there is a reason for it all if you love trust and they have the lord. Not many if at all do not love Jesus. Maryann
