Well, what Biden and Obama don’t seem to be able to understand is that their political agenda will simply make a bad economy worse. They need to drop the carbon cap and trade tax immediately. By the way, New York has had the coldest June since 1958, Arizona had the most consequetive days below 100 degrees in history.

No kidding, Biden, and you are still not listening to people who know better. Obama will strangle the productive sector on the economy into a coma from which it will never recover.

If this had happended under someone else (read conservative), they would have roasted them over coals. Now they have committed us to a debt that grows at 1 trillion per year, and bankrupted my grandkids’ generations, and all they can say is that they’ve misread it?? They going to do what? Responsibility for the “economy we inherited” must lie at least in part with SENATOR Biden, who served in the legislative branch from 1973 until this January. This was the period of time when the seeds of the current problem were sown by Barney Frank and others, who encouraged, if not required, that banks make loans now quaintly called “toxic.”
Anyone who buys this spin on the economy has no platform from which to criticize George W for going into Iran on the basis of “faulty intelligence.”

Some of us were fooled into letting them go into 1 trillion in debt to keep unemployment from rising above 8%, and now that the money’s gone, employment is to going to exceed 10% before the summer is over. What a bunch of chumps we’ve been (at least I can brag I didn’t vote for this scumbag).

While not happy with some of G. Bush’s economic policy decisions, I fear that we have seen only the the beginning of the destruction of our great country by Buffoon in chief Obama and his lap dog Biden. Putting Joe Biden in charge of anything will turn out to be one of Obi-Wan’s biggest blunders. On the plus side though he will have someone to blame when his administration fails miserably and the Ameican people finally wake up and see this man become the worst president we have ever had. Hopefully our country will only have to suffer until 2012 and his library will have more community organizer records than presidential ones.

What this administration was wrong about was what to do about the economy. A second stimulus is just going to make matters worse! We DON”T have the MONEY! The “naysayers” might actually have a decent plan-which is for the federal government to live within its means. Gina, go back and look at history…. it took Ronald Reagan almost 4 years to turn around the unemployment rate that Jimmy Carter left him with. When Reagan took office (Jan ’81), unemployment was at 7.5%. It continued to climb for 23 months, peaking at 10.8% in December 1982. AND, it didn’t get under 7.5% (what Carter left him with) until May 1984 (3 years and 4 months after Reagan took office).
So for you to think that Obama’s stimulus package is going to start working this summer…. LOL…. you’re only showing your ignorance of the delayed effect the economy actually has on government economic policy. Also demonstrates that you’re listening to Fox News too much (LOL).

The inescapable conclusion is that the administration simply doesn’t know what to do.

I guess nobody here is reviewing history of the last great depression? The script is pretty much the same except the government did not pour vast amounts of money into the economy. Sweden was the first country to come out of the depression because of Keynesian spending.

i clearly said that the problem was decades in the making. the regulatory nightmare that was/is the banking/financial meltdown occurred over the last 25 years, not the last 8. biden’s been a major player for decades now…to claim he’s had no agency in what’s happened or that he’s somehow exempt from criticism because he “misread” something is absurd. and this is coming from someone who, at the end of the 2 year presidential election we just endured, had hoped that biden was the democratic nominee for president. i’ve long been a biden supporter (even lived in delaware for a few years and voted for him). but this is a ham-handed attempt to pass the buck and the blame my friend.

Great article! Biden’s admission explains why the Stimulus Bill turned out to be a vehicle for paying off interest groups, not a good faith effort to heal the economy. The administration thought it did not need the Stimulus bill to stimulate economic growth, because the economy was not so bad off.
Now the administration is in a tough spot. Krugman and others say we need a real Stimulus, but how can they ask for a second Stimulus when only a small part of the money from the first one has been spent?

Don’t you have to understand economics 101 in order to “misread” the number? 99 % of these clowns in Washington don’t have a clue on how to get us out of this mess including Obama. Example they pass a cap and trade bill during one of the biggest recession in decades. Where do they think the jobs will go when that is implemented? If they think losing the manufacturing job to china was bad, just wait until that bill is implemented. And wasn’t that stimulus package supposed to have created 3.4 million jobs instantly. Or did Obama need to pay off all his donors. And they want to nationalize healthcare? I hope they don’t “misread” my vitals.

Spending the United States out of a bad recession? Mmmm…
Can you print or borrow enough money and then distribute these funds to enough businesses, states, organizations, etc., and hope to actually make a difference? I think not. The economy is simply too large and there isn’t enough long-lasting effect from such a plan to sustain growth, even if it worked in the short term. We are a nation of business. We grew to be the most prosperous country in the world – at a faster pace than the world had ever seen – by allowing business the freedom to make its own decisions, hire the best and brightest, and compete in a way that ensured the finest products possible hit the marketplace. Government intervention in this process has been the only impediment to long-lasting, exponential growth. High taxes, overregulation, affirmative action, and political corruption have all served to cripple and poison the capitalist system. The economy MAY have been fundamentally sound as Bush described it but Obama has done everything in his power to destroy it. Every action he takes, every word he speaks, dig us deeper in a hole. You can’t destroy the rule of law, as Obama has repeatedly, attack wealth, attack risk takers, attack every form of investment with threats to others, and then scratch your head and blame it on the prior administration. There is not one action the Dems and Nobama have taken that hasn’t increased the cost of living for every person, the cost to do business to every business, and massive debt. Obama is clearly anti-business, so when private sector jobs dry up what do you Dems expect?

Unless new jobs in both the private and public sectors are created, the economy will not recover. The stimulus bill will help create some jobs TEMPORARILY, until the money runs out. There is no indication jobs are coming back to the private sector anytime soon. There is EVERY indication that jobs continue to be moved overseas, and that any new jobs in the U.S. pay much less than they did before.

How do we know the economy isn’t worse precisely because of the “stimulus” packages?
Most people outside of government and the media think it’s insane to bailout the auto companies, banks run by morons and housing speculators. Trillions thus misspent will make the economy worse – not better.
And, having already “misread” the economy, how are we to know when they have it read correctly? Have the people who initially misread it been fired? Why not?
What would the media be doing right now to a Republican president with unemployment at 9.5% and heading higher? Adoring him? Breathlessly awaiting his next economic foray?
Maybe it’s just what it appears to be: They’re just guessing and clueless about the economy and spending trillions of taxpayer dollars on political payoffs.
Two trillion in deficit spending this year. Anyone actually think that’s a good idea?

In the name of free trade, we have inherited a retail system that is the opposite of free trade. That is, unless one is politically connected in China you are not allowed to manufacture with their slaves.
Stimulus money will generate more jobs for Americans than retail companies can. But those who will work on the new bridges and new green jobs will still be left to purchase slave labor retail goods.
The horrible irony is that our taxes are extremely low. For every one dollar of sales tax we pay for our foreign retail goods and gasoline, we are paying between 3 to 7 dollars on taxes to foreign governments.
So now President Obama is dealing with the awful truth that the President Bush plan for our economy is not sustainable. We are borrowing the tax dollars we paid to China, and OPEC countries even though we don’t have to.
In the name of free trade, we have allowed foreign governments to determine who gets jobs and who does not.

We does race have to play a factor in everything? Obama is not the truly first African-American president. In fact, he is the first bi-racial president. Regardless of race, he’s still the president. What he’s not, is a miracle worker. Will he prove himself capable of steering the economy back on course. Not with the liberal thinking that has so far permeated his administration. How noble it seems to save the planet while the populace is losing their jobs faster than the permafrost is melting. You can spend yourself into a recession, but you can’t spend your way out of it. What needs to be fixed is the overwhelming burden placed on business and workers. Healthcare costs are bringing taxpayers to their knees and so far, no one seems to have the guts to address the root causes and come to a solution. Of course, why should this concern our legislators since they aren’t the ones suffering.

What Biden, Obama and the rest of the dunderheads flailing around in Washington is that Government does not create jobs. They spend money they don’t have on projects that have nothing to do with creating jobs. Cap and Trade, Acorn census, meandering around healthcare are neat headlines, but useless in job creation. You make a good point; it is a mischaracterization to say that Clinton paid down the national debt. What the government in those years (I’m not going to give all the credit to Clinton) was to dramatically reduce the rate of increase of the debt. To use the figures you gave (which are correct, btw), the national debt increased during those years by around 1.74 trillion. From the last year in your chart of 9/30/2001 to 9/30/2008 the debt increased by 5.8 trillion – a difference of 4.06 trillion over a shorter period of time.
So the Bush years, with a republican majority in congress for most of them, greatly increased the public debt.

It’s funny that Biden says that they underestimated how bad the economy was, considering that what we were told (repeatedly) at the time was that this is the worst economic disaster since the depression. That’s underestimation of the severity? Sounds more like excuse making for their mishandling of the situation.
Also, how is someone who has been in Congress for nearly 40 years going to say that he “inherited” this economy? If he had just rolled into town this year from a pig farm in Cedar Rapids, he would have been inheriting it…but he was a senior lawmaker for decades! Obama was in Congress as well. They are BOTH part of the problem as much as Bush was. When will they stop lying and start taking responsibility for their own failures?

How can we keep looking to blame everyone else but ourselves. The economic “crisis” was a red herring used to frighten us into supporting Obama’s need for unlimited funds to accomplish his Marxist agenda.

Look at how many Republican governors have tried to not take the money. In our state the Gov refused several funding streams. Legislature only got through what was veto-proof. Now we are ineligible for many funds due to lack of matching funds. If that’s the plan, it is a pretty stupid plan.
People are holding on to their money with a kung-fu grip. If unemployment hits double digits, they will spend even less. The government can not supplement the private sector consumer driven economy. Their will be no jobs created.
In fact, you need to create 150,000 jobs a month just to keep the unemployment rate steady. That means in order to maintain the current 9.5% rate, which is brutal as it is, the US economy needs to create 2,100,000 new jobs through September 2010 just to stay at 9.5%. That is not going to happen.
Expect Unemployment to be above 11% by November 2010 even if the US economy is creating positive numbers month over month in jobs.
That means death for Democrats in the mid-term elections.
Maybe Obama wants that. He thinks he can pull a Clinton.
Lose the House, probably more likely than the Senate, and claim he is the only stopgap from the GOP in control of everything.
I don’t know if the Obama folks have factored in that the American public can change on a dime.

Employers are “letting people go” because they aren’t selling anything because they fired and laid off the very people who bought their products. Taxes, which haven’t gone up around here, are not the cause of our high rate of unemployment and child poverty rates.

This plan was sold as “Pass it now or we will have catastrophe”, and he has the gall to say this plan was meant to play out over 18 months. I thought the point is to get the economy going now and not 18 months from now. Tell that to the newly unemployed over the next year.

I think they made a worst misreading and financial mistake is both giving the banks, the stock companies, etc. the ‘stimulas’. I think it would have been better to give everyone in this nation about $3,000 so they could spend it on products and keep the businesses in good standings. And trillions more for Democratic climate control, socialist health care, etc. If a Republican presidfent had pissed away a trillion and got nothing to show for it, George and Co. would be demanding an impeachment inquiry. Because the economy was artificially propped up for so long, we can expect that it will take at least 2 complete financial years before we see a real turnaround. The fact that you left out Carter shows a major bias in your statement. The best economic times under Clinton were during the stock bubble, which fueled the unrealistic CBO budget surplus estimates used by Clinton and Bush. Also, Reagen’s policies help crumble the Iron curtain, which allowed Clinton to justify his cuts to the military.
Personally, I would rather have the type of Government that we had under Clinton where the Democrats controlled the Presidency and the Republicans controlled Congress. It was not perfect, but better than what you get when one party controls everything.
Why should B.O. be trying to survive? Oh yeah, because he is a politician. Silly me for thinking he actually might only concern himself with solving our Country’s problems.

The mortgage meltdown that’s at the root of this economic crisis was specifically caused by congressional Democrats, Obama and Biden included. For them to attempt to portray themselves as innocent outsiders who unwittingly inherited a crisis is stunningly dishonest and, well, mainstream democrat behavior. And, it illustrates just how stupid Democrat politicians think their constituents are (maybe they’re right). Biden lifted these comments directly from some Clintion made in 1993. You can fool some of the people some of the time. As for the rest of us, we can’t wait for 2010 (like 1994), so we can right this sinking Democrat ship.

And republicans were SUCH pains in the butt you would have never gotton a bigger stimulus passed, so it’s really of no consequence right now. Fact is, you need to spend to get out of this recession. Period. The time to have saved and paid down the deficit was in good times. Not now. That would only make it worse and both the The Economist magazine, Business Week and the Wall Street Journal agree ,so dont worry. We’re all better off with you two in there rather than republicans. If it were republicans the largest 6 banks would have failed, Chrysler would have filed chapter 11, and unemployment would be about 25% right now.

Less than 20% of the stimulus money is going into anything that actually looks like it could create a job. Most of the stimulus money is going to fund projects near and dear to Democrats (college grants, Medicare, etc.). I suppose they hoped the economy would get better on its own, then they could credit the phony “stimulus.” Now the economy is just getting worse, and the American people are right to ask WHERE ARE THE JOBS that were supposed to be created with $1 trillion of our tax money.

Remember ALL THE DEMOCRATS who beat each other to cameras just to tell us that TARP was urgent and we would die a horrible and painful death if TARP wasn’tr passed immediately.

As a science, economics is not as well-developed as the other sciences like chemistry and physics. So misreading the economy is going to happen all the time even with Nobel winnning economists on your team. But if you have competent counsel and don’t believe in supply-side and trickle-down theories, at least you have a fighting chance to get it right. People are making such a big deal of Joe’s unabashed admission of failure when it’s still early–way early–in the game.

Jose C, I don’t buy that! There were no gotchas, there were no hidden books. The spending was well known, the performance of all the sectors was well known, the GDP was well known, the ratio of trade deficits and sirpluses were well known. The economic patterns were well known.

Obama said that his stimulous MUST BE passed immediately, otherwise unemployment will reach 9%. Well, Obama’s stimulous did get passed and unemployment if OVER 9%. That a stimulus package was vital to our economic survival was a case that the Bush administration made before Obama. Are we better off now than in January 2009? Sure we are. Are Europe and Japan doing better than the U.S. in this global recession? My sense is that we are doing better than them, at least as far as the severity of contraction in the GDP. So what are all these Republicans in uproar about?

Sounds like the advice given to a new politician by his predecessor; I’ve left you 3 envelopes. When things get rough, open an envelope.
All went well for about 6 months, but, as predicted, a stressful situation came up.

The unemployment figures mentioned in today’s show should have went a bit farther. The unemployment rate is actually higher. They said it’s pushing 10%.
Actually, if you include all the people who gave up looking for a job, it’s more like 16.5%, and increasing !!

Obama is doing exactly what he told Joe the Plumber what his plan was – redistribute the wealth. The problem is the backwards way he intends to do it. The Democrats believe that everyone should be equal, but go about it the absolute wrong way! It is impossible to make everyone eaqual as every person is unique. Instead of bringing the top earners (the job creators) down, their priority should be to raise the lower earner’s income. Forget about everyone going to college. A college degree today is nothing more that a glorified high school diploma. Not everyone is college material and no amount of affirmative action will make it so, no matter which way it goes. We need more of the old Trade Schools or Tech Schools to teach the construction workers, plumbers, electricians, auto mechanics, etc. of the future. A really big item that must be considered is the abolition of ALL unions. They were needed a century ago, but they are simply unneeded in today;s world. There is plenty of protection in the various laws for the workers. Unions exist today in order to keep the higher ups wealthy and spending the workers’ dues money as they see fit, which is usually just the opposite of what the rank and file whould approve. Health care should be the responsibility of the individual/family, not the employer. The premiums paid by the employer should be paid directly to the employee who, in turn, can either purchase the plan his employer had (with no increase in premium) and all mandated coverage should be stopped. The employee can choose the plan and riders that fit his/her or their family needs, unemcumbered with useless options that they don’t need. All plans should be made available country wide, not just to specific reasons. No longer will the employee lose his/her insurance coverage when they lose their job or move on to another one. This will spur competition amongst the different insurers and may result in lower premiums. Eliminate the income tax (and all other federal taxes) and implement the Fair Tax. Part of the monthly “prebate” paid could include an amount equal to 1/2 of the insurance payment everyone will be required to make as insurance will be compulsory.
Just a few thoughts on something that will be a lot cheaper than what this administration is pushing. Of course it does lack the most important thing this administration wants – total control of health care. They would have just the amount they deserve – NONE! No Crap and Tax either as it is based on the false claim on man-made global warming/climate change/or whatever new moniker they want to put on it.

First rule of latest governing administration: Blame the previous opposing political party presidency for all the woes. Second, Blame the aforementioned presidency even though the congress was run by the party doing the blaming. Third, ignore the fact that it takes at least 5 to 7 years for any of the good or bad decisions to have their effect on the economy, which makes it convenient to blame the ousted opposing party presidency because nobody “remembers” or they “misread” the reports, signs, etc.; besides, only a very small percentage of the population can remember that far back. What am I saying? I am saying that the current reigning party is stepping into the pile of crap they laid by force-feeding the junk-food pork fat to satisfy and pacify the apathetic populace by short-term promises that could never be kept by any administration. Now their, (the current reigning party), own mess is on their shoes, and they seem to be having a lot of trouble trying to clean it off. This goes a lot deeper than just the reported economic problems and jobless rates. Ask a House representative or a Senator about the government run healthcare bill that, if passed, will require those not wanting to use the government healthcare system to pay $1,000.00 per month to that system anyway. It’s on the congressional agenda. Stimulus packages. I am going to deduct the share my spouse and I could have in our bank accounts out of the 2008 & 2009 bailout and stimulus packages when I do my federal and state income taxes for 2009. The deductions shall be listed as donations to the various automobile and banking corporations. Instead of the money being returned to me in a monetary refund, I want shares in the automobile and banking institutions that equal the tax refund amount. That will give me something I can eventually cash in for my retirement fund. Sounds like a great idea, doesn’t it Mr. Vice-President Joe Biden? Oh, and don’t misread this as you and the present administration did with the unemployment and other economic signs were.

When Bush was in charge the news media wouldn’t talk about how well the economy was actually doing in terms of job creation and economic growth. All this in spite of 911. Now the media won’t talk about how bad the economy is doing. The broader unemployment numbers are over 16% but few mention it. Wealthy investors are pulling back and bracing for the worst adding to the problem. I think in another year we start to realize how irresponsible democratic policies are taking us into a 2nd great depression. Will democratic voters be smart enough to vote for republicans or will they stick to their dogma and ruin us all.

I love the ironry in people complaining about this “free pass” that the administration is getting from ABC and the Main-stream media. I guess they haven’t noticed who this site belongs to. I think its pretty sad that all people seem to do is complain – whine might be a better word – the economy, yet they present no plausible solutions. GOP health care proposal anyone? If only there were a way to transform all of this spiteful sentiment into solutions that will help save our country. Is thinking in a positive light really so difficult?

How can leaders “misread” the economy…only listening to what they wanted to hear instead of getting a cross view. Also, just need to get out of their offices and onto the streets to see the size of the problem. How can they miss the signs!?

Isn’t this the second time Biden has admitted to “misreading” the economy? So what makes his reading of it now better than before? I think that Biden is now learning the meaning of a self-fulfilling prophecy. During the campaigning for election we were told “its the economy stupid”. If future campaigns are to continue with scare tactics, and negative advertising, then we will have a recession every four years, even if we do recover from this one.

The U.S. economy will not be fixed until our people are back to work. The people’s spending power is what makes our country work economically. There needs to be a better climate for businesses in this country. Exporting jobs and importing goods only makes things worse here, while supporting other countries. Throwing money at businesses to keep them afloat is a band-aid at best. There will be no recovery until we have jobs for the U.S. unemployed.

The banking system crashed due to a Democrat mandate to lend money to people who cannot repay loans … Government meddling in the economy has always led to unintended consequences.
The market crashed when it became apparent that Obama and other Socialists would win … the market is remarkably prescient.
The “Bush bailouts” were in fact passed by Democrats and opposed by Republicans … it is specious to say “we inherited” when it should be “we created.”
The recession would have been an average recession without the high-spending, business-killing, debt-increasing, tax-and-spending frenzy we’ve observed. They’ve taken a flu and turned it into pneumonia.
Same thing happened with the previous Socialist, FDR. He took a bad economy, then burdened it with myriad Socialist programs, harmful regulation and taxed the productive few to the point they stopped working and went on the dole themselves. FDR kept the country in a Depression for a full decade and it took Japan’s and Germany’s agression to lift us out of it.
Who will attack the US now to lift us out of our Socialist doldrums? One of the tyrants that Obama is going to have tea with?

The economy the Democrats inherited in 2006 was booming like never before. It has tanked ever since the Dems took over congress and is going down the tubes even faster with Obama sgning the bills. Going to hell in a handbasket.

It was a law signed by President Bill Clinton that caused the financial crisis. BUT it wasn’t his fault. The law was used in a manner NOT intended.
In essence, the law allowed someone to acquire insurance on a loan. However, the law did not specify that you had to be the borrower, nor did the law state that only one policy could be take-out per loan. Furthermore, the law moved this insurance outside the eyes of the regulators.
SO, people took out insurance policies on other peoples’ home mortgages they hoped and expected would fail. That way, their insurance would pay out. Fanny and Freddie provided them with a plethora of mortgages that would likely fail, so a whole lot of insurance policies were purchased. When the mortgage bubble broke, it wasn’t the default on the mortgage that caused the crisis, it was these insurance policies being paid out that drained the coffers.
BTW, it’s also not President Bush’s fault because, as stated, these insurance policies were outside the view of the regulators. In other words, he wasn’t ALLOWED to see the problem.
But if it makes you FEEL better to blame President Bush, then go ahead and squawk.

Here’s an idea. Spend many many many times more money than any government in the past and a few months later, admit that maybe you were wrong about the economy. I know, just ask for the money back and put it in the coffers. No harm, no foul.

Has anyone who is criticizing this administration for the stimulus package even considered how much worse things might have gotten if there were no stimulus package? I guess being proactive is worse than doing nothing and letting the chips fall where they may (ie: Bush Sr. when doing nothing for the economy back in ’91-’92 lost him the election).

First of all, Meab, “global warming” means more extreme temperatures all around…more cold and more warm. The fact that NY is cold this year does not disprove Global Warming. The only thing your comment proves is that the only research you have done on Global Warming is to look at the title. Secondly, the stimulus plan is working, and it has only just begun. Just because things are still rough now, doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t have been a thousand times worse with out the stimulus package. Facts and statistics support this.

Oh, please. They did not misread the economy. They would have said whatever they needed to say to get that so-called stimulus package passed. The “stimulus” package was never intended to stimulate the economy, it was intended to be a payback for Obama’s political supporters. Now that the Democrats in Congress and Obama have mortgaged our children’s future, they think maybe they should pass an actual stimulus package, that might lead to some improvement in our economy.

What do you mean “we” misread the economy? Gee Whiz Biden; didn’t you and Obama constantly preach all through the election process that THIS IS THE WORST ECONOMY SINCE THE GREAT DEPRESSION? I think your arrogance and stupidity is showing once more – not all Americans are stupid and not remember all yours and his commments. And we’re middle class too! Well, imagine that – we’re not stupid.

No mention of the real cause of the down turn-Barney FRANK and Chris DODD. Wonder why???

Presidents don’t “inherit” recessions; it just so happens that the last 2 or 3 economic cycles have matched the 8 yr. two-term presidencies since Reagan/Bush Sr. President Obama/VP Biden need to stop the blame game (particularly because Dems have controlled Congress since 2006) and admit that the stimulus is a dud. We need to encourage small businesses and investment through lower taxes, while reigning in spending to maintain fiscal order. It’s time to change course (the irony!)

I thought, according to the President, that he had hired the only geniuses that could save us from the “worst financial crisis since the Great Depression”? Now his motormouth VP is saying they “misread” the signs. Businesses are holding their hiring and people holding onto their money because of the uncertainty attached to the Administration and Congress’ wild spending, and future spending plans. If these people think the American people have been charmed to the bank with Barack Obama’s speeches, etc. they are wrong. Quit blaming the previous Administration by saying “we inherited” all the time. Try looking forward dummies! Maybe we should have Teaparties more often, especially around election time in 2010 and 2012. Dems and Republicans should both beware of the ire of the people!

Misread the Economy?

Let’s see…..how long did we debate the first stiumlus package? Wasn’t it all of LESS than 24 hours after the 500+ page document was placed in the hands of OUR Congress before this last package passed. Let’s see what happens if the true intellectuals that know about economic stimulus provide forthright and honest alternatives (regardless of being Republician/Democrat). Oh, and whatever happen to TRANSPARENCY? What was the definition of that? Is it another “It depends on what your definition of sex is”….per Bill Clinton? I’m tired of corrupt, self serving politicians, no matter the party, and I’m tired of campaign promises that are nothing but a way to get votes. I see no CHANGE.

Upon learning of the recent job losses for the month of June, and the subsequent remark by Vice President Biden, l couldn’t help but to sense the frustration of all those who genuinely wish to see a decline in this relentless negative trends. It really is frustrating and disheartening. The fact of the matter however, is that inspite of the current policies enacted, and our own hopes and aspirations for the economy, it is still too premature to expect a miracle at this juncture, especially considering the monumental tasks we collectively face during this early stages of the 21st century which brings along with it its own sets of challanges, coupled with glutted markets and maximized economies; to population explosions around the globe; fewer opportunities; not to mention astronomical debts and dried-out investments, all of which continue to drag down economies around the world. Earlier this year l set forth a short essay in response to a question posed on the ABC Evening News about the economy, titled ‘America’s Economy: What is the Fix?’ l still think that essay is relevant and appropriate in addressing some of the concerns and fears of the current trend of the economy and what appears to be an attempt to start a blame game over who should bear responsibility for the present state of things. It is entitled “The Perils of Credits and Loans in a Free-Market Economy.” Now, this may not concisely address all the issues we continue to face because of the enormity, but should at least offer some clues about what we are up against, as well as some of the tools to work with in meeting our challanges for the long term.
THE PERILS OF CREDITS AND LOANS IN A FREE-MARKET ECONOMY
“The Concept of Credits and Loans in a Free Market Economy is based on the presumption of endless creation of jobs, with prospects of long term economic growth and prosperity. Maximization of economies structured around this philosophy is a recipe for disasters of epic proportions, arrested and remedied to a great extent by some degree of socialism or whatever we choose to call it; some re-distribution of wealth to re-generate dried-up revenues; as well as draconian measures such as some freeze in population growth and re-education, sprinkled with a dose of reality to give us a sense of who and where we are as people in our civilization and evolution culturally; economically; and morally as it relates to our presumptious beliefs of God’s expectations of us; in the absence of corruption and self-serving interests until the dawn of better days.”…

Liberals think they are smart because they are are able to complicate any issue right past common sense and then look back and think they are thinking at a higher level than those who had the intelligence to stop at common sense

I said before I was disappointed about the stimulus as a “change agent” and I voted for Obama. I wanted the stimulus on a smaller scale. I wanted to see some serious cut backs of wasteful spending-like the military(which was done) but also for welfare- immigration -changes- Bank belt tightening not more money given to them. I wanted everyone in government to tighten their belts like regular people are doing and more money for small business made available. Please Obama no second stimulus. We need some new ideas quick.

My objection to Bush sitting in the chair of the Presidency
Bush sought to bring ruination upon the economy in a fashion that allowed Bernanke to seem impressive.
Bush & Greenspan totally attacked the economy…and Bush managed threw plenty of smoke screen out–to cover his activities–like every now & then making outlandish statements like “Evrythings fine,” “The economy is getting better,” and a few others….these statements served as “impression management,” to give the impression that he was out-of-knowledge of anything in the offing.
While he and Greespan implemented a covert economic wrecker program,
At the time of those statements he was aggressively orchestrating attacks upon the economy.
1. Bait-&-switch hire-&-fire program by federal government to induce unemployment.
2. Allowing the DoD to send trillions offshore, into foreign economies.
3. Lowered tax on xtremely high salaries so his private enterprise cohorts (ie, Boards of Directors) could escalate executive salaries & deplete American companies of cash.
Meanwhile Greenspan
1. Allowed xtreme amounts of Marginal Loans. (see Jimmy Cramers Bucknell Speach on Laissez-faire govt).

I am NO FAN of President Bush’s economic policies, but President Bush began warning the Congress at least as early as 2001 that they needed to do something about the banking and mortgage morass (that Congress had been enabling for more than one presidential cycle).
After Congress refused to work with him, did we hear President Bush blaming THEM for all of his woes? We did not. President Bush took it like a leader.

If these guys were executives in private business, they’d be fired for such a careless blunder..’mis read the numbers’??, please dont insult my intelligence..many of us small business owners who have been struggling against the winds of this economic storm knew how bad it would get, and hoped we were wrong…The bottom line is you cant cut tax’s and go on an unprecidented spending spree; you cant allow your tax producing jobs to leak to lower labor cost countries; you can’t allow illegal alien’s to flood into your country and create budget busting expenses to our already streatched support funding; you can’t allow health care to ravage our personal savings with outragious inflated annual cost increases. These and several other overlooked problems are here because the laws put in place to prevent them are not enforced…managing a country and its supportive economy is not easy, change is always about, testing the traditional proven strengths of our system, a set of policies which has made this country strong and powerful. We need to make and support some very w tough decisions, some seemingly unfair, to get things back on track…I dont think this administration is up to the task.
