Health Care Reform : Case and point. The medicare system in this country already makes life and death decisions based on costs. Scenerio: My son is now hospitalized to receive blood transfusions to save his life. The sad part of this is evidenced by the following: I am writing this email to inform you of an unacceptable situation involving my Son, David Brian Chappell. Medicare officials have denied a medication for my son called Procrit. This drug enhances red blood cell production. Denial was based on the fact that it cost too much. As a result of this, he has to enter the hospital about every two months to have blood transfusions. The cost factor for him to do this , involves being admitted to the hospital, doctor care , transfusion cost, and various other charges, that total far more than the cost of the drug that he could self administer and would prevent this situation. My son has a rare disease called Wegners Grandulomatosis. His condition is always precarious, but without this drug or the transfusions , he cannot survive. He is on disability, even though he has a college education, but with this disease, no one would ihire him or nsure him because it is a terminal disease. In addition, he has had a kidney transplant that requires specific medication that is mandatory to preserve his life. His condition requires medication that is very expensive to stay alive. This is not optional. I cannot understand why medicare will not cover the drug mentioned above because it would be more cost effective, than all the expense involved with him receiving medical care in a hospital. To medicare officials the quality of his life seems to be of no importance. It seems the decision says that rather than spend money for a less costly solution to the problem, just let the situation resolve itself by either my son's death or more costly treament in a hospital receiving transfusions to keep him alive. This is unacceptable!!! to say the least. The President talks about the how well the government run medicare program works. He denies that medicare agencies can deny life saving procedures, but, in my son's case that is exactly what medicare officials have done..Where's the justice in this system. No wonder the medicare program is in financial choas.

I imagine that, as usual, the American health-care system is worrying the working poor to death. Perhaps the working poor should insist on reliable, inexpensive, life-long health care, and then when American refuses to provide it, the working poor should refuse to work.

It seems to have become the expected behavior for members of congress to practice deceit. The house health care bill contains a provision blocking illegal residents from coverage. Yet lobbying groups for the illegals like the legislation. They know that they can count on the illegals for more cheating and breaking of the law. The illegals established that ability by coming here on violation of immigration law, committing routinely identity theft and many other crimes to remain. Members of the house affirmed their hypocrisy, deceit and cynicism by narrowly defeating a measure that would require actual checking of an applicants legal residency status. No wonder the public has such a low opinion of the Pelosi-Ried led congress.
