It does not set a bad precedent. It does what we should have been doing all along - open up the dialogue.

Typical GOP BS. Worried about what it costs them. The thinking that everyone else is supposed to make the sacrifice is rampant within the GOP. It is what drives them, Health Care, Taxes, Employment, Voting, we will restrict you, so that I can have it my way.

-------------------------
I'd say its pretty clear the GOP isn't concerned about what it will cost the GOP, but what it will cost AMERICA.
as to restrictions to have it my way - recall when Obama said 'I won, so we'll do it my way'? Not to mention the 1500+ page Stimulus Bill, 1,000 page Health Care Plan, Auto Comp. take overs, financial comp. take overs, and on and on. He's a 'You'll have it MY WAY no matter what you want' Prez.

"Are you joking?
Iran has experience with trading hostages for ARMS from the Reagan administration.
I think we would be getting off easy with a stupid apology."
Ah, the inevitable arms for hostages. Wasn't that getting off easy too? It wasn't the guns that was the problem with that, it was the message that was sent. Kidnap US citizens and we'll give you guns. I didn't support Arms for hostages back then, and I don't support an apology now. So even though your gut instinct is, as with so many posters today, jam this into a polarized political party vs. party, its not. This represents our entire nation, not just democrats or republicans, all of us.

"Ok so you approve of a nation taking US citizens, trumping up false charges that they are agents of the US Government, and threatening to imprison them in exchange for an apology over something the US government had nothing to do with? You think this is a good precedent to set? You don't think that Iran is observing this and looking to set up something similar?"

"Oh no, Republicans, we certaintly don't want to set a bad precedent here. Maybe the GOP should tell the two young ladies to go back to the prison in North Korea."

"What did the US do wrong here? It sent a specific individual to obtain hostages for nothing."
Yup. NK didn't get anything out of it at all. Nothing to see here, move along. They did it out of the kindness of their heart. They put them on trial, convicted them, and decided "hey, why did we do that? Here ya go. Our mistake."
Pull your arrogant head out of the sand. This isn't about Democrat vs. Republican, this is about USA and NK.

Does the GOP remember when Reagan negotiated for hostages in 1979-1980? Does the Iran Contra affair ring a bell?
What did the US do wrong here? It sent a specific individual to obtain hostages for nothing. I guess the GOP would only be happy if we had somehow orchestrated a secret deal to sell arms in exchange for these individuals.
I fail to see how sending Clinton is a major or damaging concession? I fail to see how it is a concession at all.
GOP is determined to poo-poo everything Obama does, which is ironic seeing as they hated it when liberals did it to Bush for the last 8 years.
