Ensign Votes to Protect ‘Sanctity’
ABC News' Jonathan Karl reports: It’s an odd word choice for a guy who just admitted cheating on his wife, but Senator John Ensign (R-NV) says he will vote against the Sonia Sotomayor nomination because, “I feel a need to protect the sanctity of our Constitution.” Ensign is the latest Republican Senator out of 28 to announce opposition to Sotomayor. Six of the Senate's 40 Republicans have said they will support Sotomayor. With all 60 Senate Democrats expected to vote in favor of the nomination, Sotomayor is virtually guaranteed appointment to the high court. The only question remaining is her margin of victory. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has said he plans to bring the Sotomayor confirmation to the floor just before lawmakers leave town at the end of the week for their August recess.

CPAC: Romney Struggles to Convince Voters
What a surprise. Ensign has lost the votes of everyone except possibly the rabid Christian right. Think he’s going to anger them now?

What is the problem? I thought sexual issues “don’t matter”? But maybe that only applies to Clinton? If Ensign declared that 2+2=4 would it be inaccurate because he is a philanderer? Absurd. This guy Ensign shouldn’t be reelected but he is making a good case to be so by not voting for a person whose main, if not sole, reason for selection was because she was a “wise latina”. And the other problem was the hearings were mainly focused on her qualification of being “latina” and didn’t focus near enough on the “wise” part of her statement. That was a fault of the Republicans as much as the Obama cadres though…..
