Geithner Won’t Rule Out New Taxes for Middle Class

Only 12% of the stimulous has been spent. How about these jokers in the house and President Spendbama take another look at some the of BS that they shoved down out throat. It is not their money, they should do the job they were elected to do instead of using money that our children will not even be able to pay the interest on to buy votes or payback their donators. How Chris Dodd and Barney Frank have not been thrown into jail is a mystery.

HMMMMmm! “No new taxes on those who make less than $250,000,” sayeth Obama in late 2008. Now, Obama is saying that he may have to raise those within the middle class. DOES HE HAVE THE FOGGIEST IDEA OF WHAT HE IS DOING??
Remember folks, these statements are coming from a guy who is ‘Tax Paying Challenged.’ Doesn’t that make you feel comfortable??

I knew this was coming regardless of who took office. We have too big of a deficit. That last guy kept cutting taxes (during a war – unheard of) and yet kept on spending like there was no tomorrow. A few of you need to get that Obama inherited most of this mess – it’s not like he walked in and spent THAT much. So, time to pay the piper.

Anybody who listened to what Obama said he was going to do and then believed him when he said he would not raise taxes on the middle class is math-challenged, to say the least — not to mention credulous and gullible. To Rescue the Economy…
Step 1) We need to pour massive amounts of money into pointless projects run by political cronies. Don’t worry, this will fix everything.
Step 2) By the way, we need you all to pay for all those pointless projects.
How the hell did that fix anything? All they did was charge a bunch of unproductive junk to their buddies and then hand us the maxed out credit cards.

When my children tried to pull, in their younger years, “but so-and-so did it first” as an excuse for bad behavior, I did not let them get away with it. The fact that Bush raised the deficit is not a rationale for allowing Obama to raise it even higher, faster.
I’ll make a deal with you, Fed. You can raise my taxes enough to pay my fair share of the deficit increase in the Bush administration’s 8 year run. In return, you can let them raise your taxes enough to pay your fair share of the Obama administration’s increased spending programs for the entire run of his administration. I am certain I’ll get the better end of that deal.

This administation is a tax and spend without any controls.

Geithner has a history of not paying his own taxes but won’t hesitate to raise ours. This is just one more of illustration of just how thing the veneer of integrity that got the president elected. Remind me please who supported Obama that he hasn’t sold out? The gay community has heard him defend the some of the most bigoted and prejudice legislation ( Defense of Marriage Act , and ” Don’t ask Don’t Tell) Git-mo remains open, with “Interrogations” continuing. The middle class about to be taxed again and instead of Health Care reform he pushes a Giant Multi Trillion Dollar Insurance Boondoggle the will lower the standard of care for all Americans.

I think that the majority of folks want to pay their fair share of taxes (and not a penny more). The problem is how the money is spent and, more to the point, how it is wasted.
Unlike the naysayers here, I think the stimulus and TARP are actually working. The former hasn’t really even been spent yet and the latter is being repaid. In just five months we’ve gone from the market around 6500 to now around 9000. Things are looking up, but unemployment will be high for the next year. So as much as they like to talk about taxes, it will be impossible in the short term to raise taxes except on the very wealthy (and maybe not even them). You’ll see the Bush tax cuts sunset next year and there will probably be some sort of business tax to fund healthcare but that’s about it. So stop whining and moaning and groaning…

I am sick of hearing the GOP “tax and spend” song. Let’s see, what was their plan to cope with an economy at the verge of falling off a cliff? Oh, yes, do nothing. Except for more tax breaks for the wealthy. Which, by the way, was partly what got us into this mess in the first place: Bush’s tax cuts, the biggest wealth redistribution boondoggle ever, that led to corporate largesse and greed, ridiculous CEO bonuses, Enron, Madoff, AIG, the list goes on. Until we change the business as usual culture, reign in health care costs, ease our dependence on oil, and stop bowing at the corporate altar, we will continue to decline as a world power. Obama may not have all the answers, or all the right ones, but at least he has ideas for the necessary change. And that’s much more than the morally bankrupt G-NO-P.

I love the first sentence of the article “will President Barack Obama have to break his pledge not to raise taxes on 95 percent of Americans?” I think that promise was broken when they raised taxes on cigarettes. Besides who honestly believed he would keep his promise?

The very term “Bail out” is inaccurate, for when the government spent Billions on these debt ridden corporations they in fact bought them out right. It would be appropriate to use the term “buy out” as the government paid off the debt and thereby owned the corporation. The term “socialization” is appropiate to what is taking place.
It is a sad testimont that this first wave of buy outs failed, resulting in a second buy out that also failed.
In the face of this failure and the current economic catastrophe, the government is going to do the unthinkable of raising taxes. There are too many small to medium sized businesess surviving on razor thin profits if at all. This would further exacerbate the rate of attrition of our economy and the erode the base of our taxes, creating an ever diminishing cycle of more taxation with less results.

We have some protections that our founding fathers wisely wrote into the Constitution that may stop the lurch to socialism that Obamanomics has created; however, we the people will have to forcefully push these protections as a united agenda to make it happen:
1. The Constitution limits powers to the Federal government to those enumerated in the Constitution, and the rest are reserved to the states or the people – this is stated right in the Constitution. The people have allowed this statement to be ignored for decades. It must be resurrected as a rallying cry and pushed relentlessly with our elected senators and representatives. It must be made a firm criteria for even being considered for re-election. A congressional election is coming up in about 15 months. Time’s a-wasting. Let’s get started.
2. States Rights must be aggressively reasserted in our national discourse. One or a few outlying states cannot make this argument effectively. It requires a large group of states to do this together, to stop this insanity.
History has now shown that our Federal government will ignore these basic truths in our Constitution; and unless we the people push back HARD against the direction Obamanomics is taking us, with total commitment and tenacity, then we are lost. However, I refuse to believe that a nation that has accomplished so much in a mere 233 years can be brought down by the results of a single election in 2008. The American people (and the principles in the Constitution) are better than that!

I am shocked, shocked I say, that reality has finally set in this administration. It only took a couple of visits by Timmy to China. Mr No New Taxes (on me) Geithner was probably taken in the back room of the Chinese finance minister’s office and slapped around for an hour or two until he promised that he would not monetized our HUGE debt caused by this administration’s out-of-control drunken sailor spending. The Chinese are afraid all the debt they hold is going to be worthless. They probably told the clueless tax cheat, Timmy, that the US won’t have a customer for its treasuries when it comes time to borrow massive amounts of money if Timmy doesn’t get his country’s financial house in order. And if we can’t borrow from the Chinese who else has a trillion dollars we can borrow? The options Timmy faces are not good. And Now the Chinese are now Timmy’s boss. This is what happens when you elect a president who has about as much business experience as the assistant manager of a WalMart shoe department.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.
The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

I don’t care what your political persuasion is: with the House run by a liberal speaker, and most of the committees run by liberals, to think we’re not going to have a signficant tax increase (to cure the “deficit CRISIS) across the board is just dreaming.
Even the President knows that he can’t achieve his notion of economic “fairness” without tapping the middle class. He’s just waiting for either a) post 2010 or perhaps b) post 2012 reelection.

Let’s say George W Bush rear ended your car on the freeway, and caused 1500.00 damage.
You then take your car to Barack Obama’s Repair Shop, where to your horror the first thing Obama does is take a sledge hammer to your hood, and headlights just before slashing your tires, breaking your windshield, cutting the upholstery and scratching your paint job. You then ask, what in hell are you doing? President Obama was clear that he would not raise taxes on anyone making over 250K. Raising taxes on the middle class would make this president dishonest at best. If he does raise taxes, he will have betrayed the very people who put him in office. The independents who tip the scales in this country will not forget.

There is alot of concern about the national debt. It is a big problem. But, impact can be controlled. At the end of World War II The national debt was 114% of GNP. The difference was this debt was owed largely to average americans who purchased bonds. When the debt was repaid, it was repaid to americans and that money circulated in the american economy. The current debt is largely owed to foreign investors and the repayment will go to other economies.
We need to finance our own debt. There are hundreds of billions of dollars in before tax IRA’ and 401k retirement funds. I suggest that average american citizens be given a tax break if these funds were transfered to US Government bonds. Allow us to finance our own debt! This type of program would help the nation and the tax savings would help individuals to off set retirement fund losses in the stock market.

Idiots! Have the not noticed that states that have raised taxes are seeing even more loss in revenue than expected. It’s a simple principle of business; but since none of these clods have held real jobs or worked in “real” businesses, I wouldn’t expect them to understand something so elemental. My family has been in this state for generations and I have a 25yr old son that has had to move back home because he speaks English – on my way to work everyday I see illegal Mexicans driving brand new vehicles and Company trucks my son can’t afford insurance or gas! I will make sure to put my energy into someone else’s campaign next election. At least Gov Easley responded to grievances and worked to rectify them!

What part of this is suppose to be surprising? Of course he’s going to raise taxes. Even if he just raised taxes on the rich, they just pass the cost on to the consumer. We still pay for it. Now he’s going to raise taxes on working people so we’ll end up paying twice. Jimmy Carter style inflation.
The worst part is that he gave it away to rich executives and do nothing pork projects. Carbon capture demonstration project instead of border security and raises for our soldiers. Foundation for the arts instead of bridges.
Like everyone else I hate paying taxes. When so much of it is being thrown away instead of spent where it needs to go, that just makes it worse. When our taxes are raised by people who don’t pay theirs, that’s salt in the wound.
One bright side, I can spend the next few years saying “I told you so” … You asked for it, you got it. I didn’t vote for Obama but I might vote for his re-election. Those of you who voted for him the first time deserve him for a second term. Maybe then you’ll learn to think before you vote.

I wish all the people complaining on here would have researched their choices before the election and maybe this wouldn’t be the problem. You got what you voted for so stop whining. Those of us who researched the candidates weren’t happy with any of them and haven’t been for some time. If you upset, vote in a whole new crew next time, and not just a new president but a whole new Congress, they are the ones with the power of the purse not the president. If you think private industry will do it, you are in la la land. They don’t care. I have lived in a third world country, and frankly that is where we are headed. Americans need to stop being selfish and think about what will be best for their children and grandchildren. Letting all the major institutions that the government currently supports (healthcare- 30% of Americans use this service; infrastrucure- 100% of Americans use this service; Education- 99% of Americans use this service; Clean water- 100% of Americans use this service; Energy-100% of Americans use this service… you get the idea)will lead to a collapse of the very institutions that have allowed Americans to dominate economically for so long. Hey if you want to live like those that live in third world countries to save a few bucks on taxes, go for it. Just don’t complain about it.

its not a nice thing to say, but the citizens of the United States are letting their country being taken over by its enemies. And they don’t seem to do any thing about it. Nor are our elected representatives. All one hears and reads would seem to indicate that Obama is the supreme leader of the land. According to the “slobbering” media, everything being done or proposed is being done by Obama. Just when did we wind up with a dictator? Who authorized the 32 Czars that control all functions of the executive brnch. Who gave the President power to raise taxes? Unless Congress has amended the Constitution without our knowledge, all bill regarding taxes must originate in the House of Represntatives. Where did the President get the power or authority to fire executives, tell people where they can go, and how they spend their money. If someone is given money, then it is theirs, and the determine how it to be spent. Are they going to tell us how to spend our paychecks?
Can’t people see that Obama, and whoever is backing him, are slowly gaining more and more power, and we will soon see that freedom as we have known it is a thing of the past. Wake up America.
Get a copy of the Constitution and read it thoroughly – something that our folks in Congress must not have done. You will see that practically all of the authority and responsibility for running our govenment, including the military forces, lies with Congress. They are supposed to make all the laws and rules that the President is supposed to enforce.

Health Care Improvement
After hearing of the many proposals to fix our health care system to give more access to the American people and giving the American people access to better health care, as an average citizen I have a few questions and suggestions.
1. Why do our elected officials believe that government run programs are the answer? We already have Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and the Veteran’s administration that are so efficient and well run that they are bordering on bankruptcy and insolvency, so why do we need yet another large bloated bureaucracy where we once again allow political appointees to decide our futures.
2. How is a proposal to spend more of my hard earned money on big government programs in my best interest? Those who we elect to public office it seems believe that once in office they have become such experts at spending our tax dollars that they now need to spend more of our tax dollars. This type of expert reminds me of the saying an expert is an ex (has been) and a spurt (a dip under pressure). I work hard for my money and I believe I should have the basic right to protect it from prying hands that want to take it away from me.
3. Why is the federal government getting bigger when I thought we had voted in a change to make it smaller? The federal government like all large institutions is really good at creating more bureaucracy, padding their own pockets, and feeling the entitlement to grow. We have laws in place to fight against monopolies out in the market place; however our federal government, in many areas of service is a monopoly. Who is going to protect us against them?
4. How are we going to restore balance to our lives so that we can pursue our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as outlined in the Declaration of Independence? I do not advocate a physical disruption of the government, but rather that we need to change the faces and ideas of those that are the most integrated part of our political system. It has become evident in the last 20 years that when you ask a group of people in government (the majority of whom have been in the government for over 10 years) to solve problems that have been around for many years you are not likely to get new ideas, but rather recycled old ideas.
Proposed solutions to the questions at hand
1. The federal government over the last forty years has proven to us that they are not very fiscally responsible with our money. They do a great job of moving forward government programs that use more of my tax dollars now and in the future, but not very good at balancing budgets and paying down debt. They do tend to be better at regulating those things that need to be regulated and at putting rules in place that are meant to restrict our natural human tendency to prey on one another. I therefore propose that to level the playing field and give us the American people better and more affordable health care we need to
a) Break-up the monopolistic domain of health insurance providers and health care providers in each state. Make sure that there are at least 3 to 4 major providers of health insurance and/or health care in each state and community. This gives each individual the opportunity to play the different insurers and health care providers against each other for greater cost efficiency and more choice. This can be done by creating insurance coops, owned by the policy owners, much like the Credit Unions run today.
b) Do away with the preexisting condition clauses in the insurance contacts. Making sure that each person has the same access to healthcare.
c) To make sure that those between jobs and those that are retired have affordable health care, move as part of the unemployment and retirement benefits those individuals onto the same health plan that the federal government has for our elected officials. Once the unemployed find work they can be transitioned onto their employer’s health insurance.
d) For each state, setup a group health care policy with all health insurers in the state that the self-employed and small businesses can join. Then give them a generous tax break for the funds that they spend on health insurance for their employees.
2. Our present administration (headed by the honorable President Barack Obama promised to bring in responsible government. Before he signs into law any more programs that take one more dime out of our pockets, I propose that he consolidate government programs and show us where the deficit in a year from now will be smaller than it is today. This does not mean that he shows us how much more the deficit is going to be if we do not act, but rather show us real shrinkage in the deficit in solid dollar amounts. We need fiscal responsibility, not the same accounting tricks that we have seen in big businesses for the last several years.
3. We as the American people should demand that our Federal Government gives us a solid accounting its growth. We as American need real jobs not just government programs that create more positions on government payrolls. This means that we need to put in place incentives for the financial sector and governments to fund small business ventures. We all know that the major provider of job growth is not the mega mergers, the large multinational enterprises, or the large business entities. It is the small business owners that provide us with innovative products and services. As each small business ramps up they will need to have help with all of the functions of businesses so they will be hiring people to fulfill those functions not laying them off or downsizing.
4. We are coming up on an election year next year. We have many from all political parties in Congress and the Senate on the national level that have been part of the political scene in Washington for over 10 years. Let us make a clean sweep this year and replace those with the same old ideas with those that have new ideas. It does not matter your political persuasion, what we need is to have real changes in Washington. In order to have our esteemed President Barack Obama get some real and meaningful changes to happen we need to have all those that have been in the U.S. Senate and U.S. Congress to step down and give others a chance to be of service to their country. We the American people can assist them in this endeavor by making sure that we do not vote for those that have been back in Washington for more than 10 years. If they could not make a significant difference in 10 year or more what makes them think they can now.
I realize that I am writing this open letter to the American people, not as an expert, but as a common man. I do not have any strong political affiliations other than a basic belief in the greatness and integrity of the American people as a whole. We the people of the United States of America need to stand up and demand more from those we put in office. If we will take some bold steps like those I propose, I know that we will look back with pride on this great year of 2009, knowing we have individually made a positive difference!

Who is framing the debate on where this government is taking us too?
Fox does an excellent job of presenting opinions from the repubs and Dems but I have almost never seen a representative of the communist party of America or an opposing viewpoint from any speakers who are EX-communist country members now living in the USA. Where is the perspective when all that is presented are the same old selling point of the dem/socialist party.
With the exception of the Beck program, I see and hear very little attention being given to FACTS and HISTORY of communism by those who have lived under it and left it for the liberty found in this country.
With a communist Exective Administration and a communist majority in the legislative branch, We need to hear more from those who have lived with these social principles in fact not in theory.
We have gone far beyond principles that can be called liberal or left and it time things are called what they are so the uninformed can get educated about where we are headed with (communism)!

Another minority elected official completely out of his league in Washington DC. This man had no experience at anything, he never ran a company, he was never in the military, even his political career was a joke. CHANGE? Wonder how the Administration figures more taxes will help? We do not have a recession because we are taxed too little. We have a recession because we borrowed too much,,including the Federal government. The government spends too much and burdens the economy into a recession.
History shows lowering taxes(doesn’t matter whose taxes are lowered) the economy improves: JFK, Reagan, and GW Bush.

Also, if taxes are raised, I can guarantee you the economy will get worse. The government cannot continue to raise taxes and also stimulate the economy. I have no more money to spend. Raising taxes is the worst mistake the US can do right now. We need lower taxes on the middle class not higher taxes. Obama and his friends are a bunch of idiots.

This entire federal government expansion must be rolled back. Obama has made a mess of most everything by outrageous spending and expansion of government control.
