President Obama to Health Care Reform Opponents: Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness
ABC News’ Jake Tapper and Karen Travers report:
In a conference call with liberal and progressive religious leaders Wednesday afternoon, President Obama railed against those who were “bearing false witness” in the debate over health care reform.
“I know there's been a lot of misinformation in this debate, and there are some folks out there who are, frankly, bearing false witness, but I want everyone to know what health insurance reform is all about,” the president said.
“Thou shalt not bear false witness against your neighbor,” is, of course, one of the Ten Commandments. (It’s the 9th Commandment in all religions except for the Catholic and Lutheran traditions, in which it’s the 8th.)
Mr. Obama pointed the finger at unnamed sources for the “distortion(s)” “fabrications” and “ludicrous ideas” in the debate over health care reform and rebutted specific “divisive and deceptive attacks.”
The president said the bill would not provide health insurance for illegal immigrants, or as he called them, “illegal aliens.” “That's not true. There's a specific provision in the bill that does not provide health insurance for those individuals.”
“You've heard that this is a government takeover of health care,” the president said. “That's not true. You've heard that this is all going to…mean government funding of abortion. Not true.”
Mr. Obama said these claims were “fabrications that have been put out there in order to discourage people from meeting what I consider to be a core ethical and moral obligation, and that is that we look out for one another, that I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper, and in the wealthiest nation on Earth right now, we are neglecting to live up to that call.”
Mr. Obama called on the religious leaders to help him share the good word about health care reform and set the record straight.
“I need you to knock on doors, talk to your neighbors. I need you to spread the facts and speak the truth,” he said.

A possible, bearing truthful witness, solution is in adding either in a Preamble, or a separate Section,to every proposed healthcare bill going forward, a simple straightforward statement that applies only to the bill in question. Let’s model it on the one from Obama’s first executive order 13489 ** Sec 5 c
“c) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party ……….”
Possible model:
This Bill herein is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party:
1. For supplying this healthcare coverage to any illegal
immigrant.
2. For any government monies whatsoever, however raised,
(be it taxes, fees, rebates, claw backs, or premiums and
the like) being spent to cover performing or materially
assisting any abortion in this bill.
3. For the government take-over of the substantively
whole US healthcare system in this bill.
4. For the US Government to financially force the private
insurers out of business in this bill.
5. For supplying the elderly, and/or handicapped, with
healthcare of lesser degree than generally made available,
or withheld, based upon their age or existing condition,
in this bill.
6. For decreasing existing healthcare coverage under
the US Gov VA and/or under the US Gov Medicare, in this bill.
7. For having a living will, or consultation for same,
being required, and/or irrevocable-at-will, in this bill. ***
8. For excluding funding of proven successful alternative
protocols, in this bill.
(I am not an attorney, not a doctor, and what I say is neither to be construed as legal nor medical advise.)
Make it very easy for anyone to look this recital up, that’s why putting something like this in a preamble, or its own section, would be so powerful. How can a Republican refuse to sign the bill with anything on the included list as his cover rationale? The beauty is in defusing the emotional sell and pins the Republicans down to weaker and weaker fringe arguments that in the end highlight their funding sources as dominant. At the same time, by referencing this bill specifically, it does not limit further changes by succeeding bills in future years with the required votes to pass, so it doesn’t preclude the far left from signing it either.
**Pres. order 13489
***And I suggest a family discussion guide booklet supplied online or by mail for topics and neutral questions that stimulate discussion, and an approved legal form with preset choices and add your own spelled out choice box with ample lines in every section, with a 30 day waiting period before it takes affect after any governmental consultation, only waive-able if a person is already on life support, or an immediate death sentence prognosis, and their primary significant other person concurs,( spouse, child, contractually
named other.) And revocable at any time in writing, or auditory recorded statement, by the signor.
(Such formats also provided.) Available to take and do at home, well after any governmental consultation. Not legally sign-able within 3 days of the consultation. So notary must witness patient
signature and witness signature more than 3 days later than gov consult.and not on or in gov facility, (with same exceptions if critical situation.)

What is wrong with the media. We need to know what is in the bill. Read it, have experts explain it. Obama will say whatever we want to hear to get it passed. This could break the country. Why not explain the truth. We do not need someone just putting generalizations out there. If you like your health care, nothing going to change, right?????? I don’t think so.
Too much, too fast. We need to work on our economy first. We need to make the changes on Medicaid to get the fraud out. If we know what and how to do it, why has it not already been done? The government cannot get anything done. Too much corruption, creed and stupidy. Nothing ever changes.

Obama can just do what Bush did… “I don’t give a crap what anyone thinks, I am going to do what I want when I want”… but no, he reaches out to try to get you to understand, but you still act like drama queens over something so simple. So he takes the next step… ask the churches to help them… most are behind him on this because they read the bill and see nothing you people want to see… nor do I. This bill has nothing to do with you unless you less fortunate and can’t afford healthcare or do not have healthcare. It is your Government doing its job and taking care of its people. It is not North Korea trying to take you over. Get a grip people, open your ears and start paying attention to the facts.

Every other first world country has some form of national health care. NONE of them euthanize anyone, and most of them actually have a longer life expectancy specifically BECAUSE their poor receive decent health care.

Elaine S: Such passages are already in the bill for key elements. For example:
” H.R. 3200: Sec 246 — NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS
Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.”
Doesn’t matter – the opponents of the bill are lying about it, not actually debating anything.

Lisa,
There’s a 1986 law that forces hospitals to provide ER care at no cost to anyone who shows up, regardless of their citizenship. That law has not been repealed in the proposed bill. So the illegals will continue to be a drain on the resources available to health care.
Hospitals are also NOT reimbursed at all for what they spend on free medical care to illegals.
– From Wikipedia:
The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (42 U.S.C. § 1395dd, EMTALA) is a United States Act of Congress passed in 1986 as part of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act. It requires hospitals and ambulance services to provide care to anyone needing emergency treatment regardless of citizenship, legal status or ability to pay. There are no reimbursement provisions. As a result of the act, patients needing emergency treatment can be discharged only under their own informed consent or when their condition requires transfer to a hospital better equipped to administer the treatment.
EMTALA applies to “participating hospitals”, i.e., those that accept payment from the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) under the Medicare program. However, in practical terms, EMTALA applies to virtually all hospitals in the U.S., with the exception of the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Indian Health Service hospitals, and Veterans Affairs hospitals. The combined payments of Medicare and Medicaid, $602 billion in 2004,[1] or roughly 44% of all medical expenditures in the U.S., make not participating in EMTALA impractical for nearly all hospitals. EMTALA’s provisions apply to all patients, and not just to Medicare patients.[2][3]
The cost of emergency care required by EMTALA is not directly covered by the federal government. Because of this, the law has been criticized by some as an unfunded mandate.[4] Similarly, it has attracted controversy for its impacts on hospitals, and in particular, for its possible contributions to an emergency medical system that is “overburdened, underfunded and highly fragmented”.[5] More than half of all emergency room care in the U.S. now goes uncompensated. Hospitals write off such care as charity or bad debt for tax purposes. Increasing financial pressures on hospitals in the period since EMTALA’s passage have caused consolidations and closures, so the number of emergency rooms is decreasing despite increasing demand for emergency care.[6] There is also debate about the extent to which EMTALA has led to cost-shifting and higher rates for insured or paying hospital patients, thereby contributing to the high overall rate of medical inflation in the U.S.

Trish:”What is wrong with the media. We need to know what is in the bill. Read it, have experts explain it.”
They have. Start reading all those boring little sections that have factcheck in the title.
“Why not explain the truth. We do not need someone just putting generalizations out there.”
The opposition to healthcare condemn it for being 1000 pages – too detailed – and you condemn them for putting out just generalizations? Come on. And again, read the fact checks. 90% of what the White House has been putting out IS the truth.
“If you like your health care, nothing going to change, right?????? I don’t think so.”
Could you specifically cite what part of the CBO analysis supporting the contention that the vast majority of people will see no change (90% of workers will still have their private insurance by 2019)?
“Too much, too fast. We need to work on our economy first.”
Getting medical costs under control IS working on our economy. We spend trillions more than other nations on a per person for healthcare. There is no clear data supporting that we are getting anything better for paying twice as much. Where do you think that money comes from?
“We need to make the changes on Medicaid to get the fraud out. If we know what and how to do it, why has it not already been done?”
IT HAS BEEN DONE. For goodness sake, this is one of the few areas that Bush and the Republican Congress were pretty effective. You’re reciting a decade old bumper sticker. Fraud levels in Medicaid and Medicare are now estimated to be LOWER than fraud of private insurers.
Posted by: jhw539 | August 19, 2009, 8:28 pm 8:28 pm
Elaine S: “I still haven’t heard one actual offering of tort reform to be added to this bill. Even a high cap on punitive damages would be a help.”
Another person reciting a twenty year old bumpersticker.
FACT: 34 states cap punitive damages, with caps ranging from $250k to $10 million.
FACT: 23 states cap non-economic damages, with the caps ranging from $250k up to $750k.
FACT: These caps were put in place in the 80′s.
FACT: CBO analysis under the Republican Congress earlier in the decade (essentially comparing costs between states with tort reform versus those without) found that only relatively small savings remained to be had from tort reform. (Still worthwhile savings, but they are not going to make the difference to the trillions spent on healthcare.)
Tort reform is within the power of states, and many very ‘red’ states have been very aggressive about it. It has been proven not to be a magic bullet.

@tenarg,
Very good infomation that you have provided. It is the same points that I have wanted to discuss.
But are people understanding any of this from a real world prospective to be complaining about whether our monies pay for healthcare or medicines of illegal immigrants.
Currently, they pay for by way of taxation to give “Humanitarian Assistance” to foreign countries and foreign people all over the world. And millions of taxpayers dollars on buildings, prisons, medical facilities in these foreign countries that we don’t benefit from in any aspect.
So, my question to these people complaining or concerned about uncompensated healthcare cost and treatment of the poor or illegal immigrants is “Shouldn’t we have a little “humanitarian assistance” backup plan for people living in our States and America if we don’t cry over being taxed to help other countries with food, medicine, hurricane and natural diaster relief????
I am just saying !!!!!

1st The fact is we already cover illegal immigrants with healthcare, this reform has nothing to do with that.
2nd The death panels are not going to be established until after the mid-terms
3rd Obama already subsidizes abortions in other countries so it will be no different if he does it in the US and Planned Parenthood currently receives over $330 million annually from local, state and federal governments for pap smears or whatever they pretend they use that money for.
4th If the public option is as bad as the postal service, no need to worry

Non-profit insurance companies already exist, as do insurance co-ops. The problem is that government decides who can sell what, in which states. With over 1000 insurance companies we would have more than enough competition if the government would just get out of the way.
Tort reform has brought Obstetricians back to life in Texas in large numbers. They’re practically out of business here in New Jersey sue to skyrocketing insurance fees. John Edwards single-handedly shut down the OB’s in N. Carolina.

Imagine the President using one of the Ten Commandments, one of God’s Rules, when it has been banned from courthouses, government, schools, education, etc… You can’t pick and choose when to use the Word of God and then expect to get away with it. Either make it a legal form of law or use another comparison. Those who believe in the Word of God and practice it as law are not the ones to call the law on. President Obama, either recognize in your government law the Ten Commandments as law or refrain from using them as ammunition to your cause.

The US health care system is a joke.
Those who have jobs and get health care from a group employee plan are lucky.
Those who are self employed and have to pay all their own insurance premiums are screwed
My wife and I are in our 60′s
We are self employed
My wife has a pacemaker
I am in good health
We have Blue Shield
The most affordable policy we could find at our age was their PPO 4000/8000 plan
Our monthly premiums are $915 per month..
Our deductible is $4000 per year per person.
So basically we are “self insured” since we pay at least $15,000 per person per year for insurance premiums and health care before we can get a dime of help from Blue Shield.
I’ve tried everything I can think of to get our premiums down. Even looked into a small group plan.
It’s gotten to the point that we’ve started going abroad for medical care
For the past 4 years we’ve been saving up all our medical and dental problems and making a 3 week visit to a Thai hospital where the care is excellent and the cost…just a fraction of what I would have to pay out of pocket in the US. For example, last November I had an Endoscopic balloon dilation for a condition known as dysphagia. The specialist in the US said the operation would cost me $2500. (His bill for the 15 minute consultation was $250.) I decided to wait until I got to Thailand and had it done in at Chulalonkorn public hospital…cost $100 including biopsy, (all I needed for ID was my US passport. No questions asked!!)
It’s sad that we have to go overseas for affordable health care while other people get affordable health care just because they work for someone else.

Pslams 37:21 says” The wicked borrows, and never pays again” and to sum it up Proverbs 16:12 says”It is a hateful thing for kings(or presidents) to commit wickedness; for the throne is established by righteousness.” Surely Obama is the most ‘pro abortion’ president in history with 4000+ babies a day being killed.

Jeannie…So the president isn’t allowed to speak his mind or what’s on his heart and hold those accountable that have spread lies that could be considered blasphemous and harmful….because the Ten Commandments aren’t displayed in public buildings? What does that have to do with a person’s personal beliefs? And well, the truth. And aren’t conservatives all about personal responsibility. Maybe you should teach your children about the Ten Commandments yourself and leave the rest of us out of your religiously judgemental realm. 2. Any aspect of the bill that is not CURRENTLY clearly defined (i.e rationing for the elderly and chronocially ill who WASTE 80% of our healtcare dollars) will be defined later. (when we are out of money) (see point #1…) etc. etc.

Speaking of bearing false witness, this from the Daily Beast:
“[A]ccording to a half-dozen sources, including several very senior, recently retired CIA officials, clandestine-service officers, and Cabinet-level officials from the Bush administration, the real story is at once more innocent—Panetta was mistaken; no law was broken—and far more troubling: an inexperienced CIA director, unfamiliar with how his vast, complicated agency works, unable to trust senior officials within his own agency, and desperate to keep his hands clean, screwed up.”

drjohn, that isn’t quite correct. Obama never said he wanted single payer, as a matter of fact, he ran against it. I believe that Edwards was the only one (aside from Kucinich, of course) who came close to single payer during the primaries.
Obama said he thought that single-payer would save the most money, and be the most effective.
Obama’s position was that he wanted people to have the choice of buying into a public plan.
Obama isn’t the socialist the far-right would like us to think, he isn’t the progressive the people who voted for him were hoping for, and if he caves on PO, he isn’t even a liberal.

Are you kidding me? There is a videotape on y&^t#be that shows Obama stating very plainly and simply that he favors a single payer system.
This is what’s wrong with the left- they deny the bald truth.
What he said during his campaign doesn’t mean squat. The number of campaign promises Obama has reneged upon is legendary.
You would do well to completely ignore what Obama says and watch very carefully what he does.

I can’t believe that BO is accusing people of false witness since he and his administration can’t even make up their minds about what the healthcare policy looks like. Kathryn Sebelius herself because of the opposition to the end of life counseling that was being taken off the table. Therefore, it must have been on the table before.
As to changing the US healthcare, I saw ABC news tonight saying how people are living longer thanks to advances in Healthcare. Do we really want the government to mess that up? Let the doctors be the doctors and let the politicians do what they do.
I do agree that something has to be done to regulate prices of healthcare but tort reform would be all that was needed and less expensive for taxpayers.

I think it is rich that Obama is now appealing to the religious leaders. The man who won’t go to church, who ignored National Day of Prayer– who would like for them to remove “GOD” from all of America– and isn’t he bordering on ignoring the “separation of church and state?” Guess it is OK for him, but not for the rest of us. He is such a two-faced hypocrit. He is like a spoiled child about this health care— it isn’t so much that he wants it, he just wants HIS WAY (or he will pout- and throw a tantrum)

=================================
Dear President Obama,
The Bible teaches that CHRISTIANS should care for one another – not the GOVERNMENT, but you wouldn’t know that.
Considering how wide the gap is between what you stand for and the teaching in the Bible, you fit the description provided by the apostle Paul in his second letter to Timothy. Paul says “men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.” Your position on abortion, homosexuality and other issues (and your own mocking of the Bible), fits the description. And Pauls calls these people “evil men and impostors.”
Spurgeon wrote “It were a sad dishonour to a child of God to be the world’s favourite. It is a very ill omen to hear a wicked world clap its hands and shout ‘Well done’ to the Christian man.”
Regards,
An orginary citizen

I’m not aware of the proposed Health Care Reform Bill being posted anywhere for review. So, I can’t comment. My view is that even the best of the best have room for improvement.

Dear President Obama if you are to judge others for supposedly “bearing false witness”, you must first judge yourself by the same standard.
It might be nice for you to observe “thou shalt not kill” as well, and let those babies be carried to term as YWHW intended.
And for ABC, if in your infamous “fact checks” you had actually read verbatim the sections of the bill in question you might have proven our case rather than Obama’s.
Again for ABC, if you were on the side of the truth and the people we would have put this government takeover of healthcare to rest some time ago. And I might add “cap and tax” as well. Whom do you represent anyway?
Posted by: Ed Taylor | August 20, 2009, 12:40 am 12:40 am
drjohn, did you even see the election?
Single payer was not then, nor is it now, Obama’s platform.
Sure, he once said he favors it, and recently even admitted that it makes more sense than what he’s asking for now.
The problem isn’t the left. The problem is the right, screaming that its a government takeover of health care. That may be what the left wants, but it isn’t what Obama is offering.
Any confusion on this matter is coming from the dunderheads on the right who are quite confused on the matter.
On the other hand, there are some confused liberals as well. I remember arguing this point with some Bill Clinton for President supporters, who were trying to convince me that he also wanted health care for all. They were full of it too.

There is one major difference between the left and the Obama/Clinton people on health care. Obama and Clinton both advocate for health insurance as the solution to our health care problems. The left argues that insurance is the problem, not the solution.

It won’t matter anyway becasue even if they’re not included they’re still going to go to the emergency room for care. Why would Pelosi say something like that? Enough on the misinformation and made up quotes:
From Politifact, under the heading “No free health care for illegal immigrants in the health bill”
“. . .One of its most bizarre claims is the one about free health care for noncitizens, “illegal or not.”
We read the bill and its legislative summary, and could find nothing about free health care for anyone, much less noncitizens.
To confirm our examination, we turned to Jennifer Tolbert, an independent health care analyst at the Kaiser Family Foundation, a nonpartisan foundation that studies health care reform. Tolbert has read and analyzed all the major health proposals, including those of the Republicans, and the foundation provides point-by-point analyses of the plans on its Web site.
“No one’s provided with free health care. That’s ridiculous,” she said.
Page 50, which the e-mail references, is part of Section 152, which includes a generic nondiscrimination clause saying that insurers may not discriminate with regard to “personal characteristics extraneous to the provision of high quality health care or related services.”
The section says nothing about “non-US citizens” or immigrants, legal or otherwise. In fact, the legislation specifically states that “undocumented aliens” will not be eligible for credits to help them buy health insurance, in Section 246 on page 143.
The bottom line here is the e-mail is making things up. The bill does not say anything close to “All non-US citizens, illegal or not, will be provided with free health care services.” We rate this chain e-mail statement Pants on Fire”

As for appealing to morality, it totally makes sense to me to talk to faith leaders about truth, being our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers, and so on, using religious texts to tailor the message.

Now Obama says and ABC news repeats as if it established fact that the health care proposed legislation exclude illegal immigrants from coverage. The matter is not so simple (“as any fool knows”). Several amendments have been offered and narrowly defeated that would actually require checking of the immigration status of applicants. What the current situation is that the illegals are ineligible but a deceitful congress has provided a convenient path for massive fraud. ABC News’s responsibility is not abrogated by reading a Fact Check statement.

As others have acknowledged, the President has definitely said that if he could start from scratch or if he was in a perfect world, he’d favor single payer. However, I think there is a BIG difference between saying(1) you favor single payer and are working toward putting that in place and (2)if you could build a system from scratch you’d favor single payer but given there’s a system in place that can do the job and many, many people who wouldn’t want to overhaul the system, you favor improving the current system. In a perfect world, I favor organic farming, legalized marijuana, walking or bicycling to work, no terrorism or violence, lots more paid vacation days and happily ever afters. In a perfect world, you may favor pure free market. We don’t live in a perfect world. I have to admit I’ve been wondering quite a lot about projection when it comes to some of the insistence on certain things that strike me as paranoid. If Obama or I or you or anybody could start from scratch there are likely things we’d do differently about Iraq, social security, banking deregulation and so on. That’s the problem with hypotheticals, IMO. Moreover, some folks seem to give no room for evolution of thought. Among Dems the President is not seen as a single payer advocate– he’s even very flexible on the public option– which is why it’s hard sometimes to understand the anger, fear and accusations from the right(at least for me.) Now, Congressman Conyers IS a leading advocate for single payer health insurance in Congress and a sponsor of the single payer bill in the House (HR 676)– and there are other single payer advocates in the Democrat party. So what? (I say that to the folks that often bring up quotes from liberal members of the House as evidence of. . . well, I’m not sure what.)
Obama said in that same oft-cited AFL-CIO speech that a single-payer system was politically untenable in America. That certainly seems to be the case, no? But does he get any credit for acknowledging that and being insightful and pragmatic? Hmmm. Not when the overarching goal is to defeat reform by nefarious means (you know, all that false witness stuff)

Apparently, many media outlets have proven that Obama bore FALSE WITNESS three times talking to “religious leaders”.
President Barack Obama participated in a scripted online discussion of his health care overhaul with a friendly audience of religious voters and pastors Wednesday. It ended with him bemoaning those who bear “false witness” against his plans — and then making a claim of his own that’s been widely shown to be false.
“There’s been a lot of misinformation,” Obama said, complaining about people who are “bearing false witness.”
He said the first thing he wanted to correct was the idea that the proposed overhaul would force some people into different health care plans. “If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan,” he said, repeating one of his stock lines.
That’s not true, however, according to FactCheck.org, an independent truth squad run by the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
“He can’t make that promise to everyone,” concluded FactCheck’s analysis, one of several that point out that the Democrats’ health care plan could lead to employers switching plans, and thus forcing their employees into different plans and perhaps to different doctors.

Here’s what I don’t get about that. Before I was self-employed, I worked for insurance companies and managed care companies and they were constantly tweaking the providers we could see in-network. We also lost clients and gained new ones because they changed plans, typically without asking their employees if that was okay. Before that, when I worked for other companies, they switched plans and I’ve heard that’s even more common now. Here is a president who wants to do something for the average American and what does the average ignorant American do? Oppose it. I am making now only $10/hr, my company pays my part of insurance and for my family I have to pay$92 a week. I had an infection and had to see a doctor. I have a $2500 deductible, so the visit was $357 and meds $110 which I could not afford. My mom lives in Europe and went to see a doctor and sent me the antibiotics. Is there something wrong here?????

About this comment: “The president said the bill would not provide health insurance for illegal immigrants, or as he called them, “illegal aliens.” “That’s not true. There’s a specific provision in the bill that does not provide health insurance for those individuals.”
LIE. There was a provision to exclude aliens, the Heller amendment which was VOTED down by the democrat congress! There is nothing to stop illegal aliens from getting free health care!

Norris Hall says: “It’s sad that we have to go overseas for affordable health care while other people get affordable health care just because they work for someone else.”
————
Under Obamacare, you will have to continue going overseas for your medical treatment. Because you are in your 60s, government officials will more than likely deny you any costly care…maybe a pain pill? And on top of that you’ll pay a penalty if you don’t carry health insurance of some kind. Sounds great, doesn’t it.

The Bible is filled with references to helping those less fortunate than ourselves. In this case, however, the President exposes his lack of Biblical knowledge. The phrase “my brother’s keeper” is only used as Cain avoids admitting his grievous sin by saying “am I my brother’s keeper?”. That’s a long shot away from a moral (personal not governmental) obligation to provide for those in need.

Moral obligation?
Partners with God in matters of life and death?
Where was Obama’s moral obligation when he voted against the Born Alive Bill
– allowing babies that survive botched abortion to lay there and die.
That’s his idea of compassion?

James P.: “HR3200, the insurance reform bill, fines businesses for offering non-public option health insurance. Title VIII, subchapter B, sec. 4376, imposes fines, to be treated as tax, and paid by employers who offer non-public option health insurance. I am a small business owner and will never be able to offer choice if this passes.”
Section 4376 imposes fees on “self-insured health plans.” As a small business owner, it’s unlikely that you operate your own insurance plan. I have a feeling that you offer your employees insurance through an insurance company instead.

Usually in this country when there is some reform or change it is expected there will be resistance. Often religious references are used because they are easy to blame. I feel the president is trying to make a difference in health care and for once we should wait and see if Washington will ‘walk the talk’. As it is, our system right now is pathetic and we have no choice.

I also have a copy of the bill and I have examined the first 500 pages of lies and inuindo. Yes the illegal aliens will get free health care once they give them all aminesty. Below is what the first 500 pages really said
•
Page 22: Mandates audits of all employers that self-insure!
• Page 29: Admission: your health care will be rationed!
• Page 30: A government committee will decide what treatments and benefits you get (and, unlike an insurer, there will be no appeals process)
• Page 42: The “Health Choices Commissioner” will decide health benefits for you. You will have no choice. None.
• Page 50: All non-US citizens, illegal or not, will be provided with free healthcare services.
• Page 58: Every person will be issued a National ID Health card.
• Page 59: The federal government will have direct, real-time access to all individual bank accounts for electronic funds transfer.
• Page 65: Taxpayers will subsidize all union retiree and community organizer health plans (read: SEIU, UAW and ACORN)

• Page 84: All private healthcare plans must participate in the Healthcare Exchange (i.e., total government control of private plans)
• Page 91: Government mandates linguistic infrastructure for services; translation: illegal aliens
• Page 95: The Government will pay ACORN and AmeriCorps to sign up individuals for Government-run Health Care plan.
• Page 102: Those eligible for Medicaid will be automatically enrolled: you have no choice in the matter.
• Page 124: No company can sue the government for price-fixing. No “judicial review” is permitted against the government monopoly. Put simply, private insurers will be crushed.
• Page 127: The AMA sold doctors out: the government will set wages.
• Page 145: An employer MUST auto-enroll employees into the government-run public plan. No alternatives.
• Page 126: Employers MUST pay healthcare bills for part-time employees AND their families.
• Page 149: Any employer with a payroll of $400K or more, who does not offer the public option, pays an 8% tax on payroll
• Page 150: Any employer with a payroll of $250K-400K or more, who does not offer the public option, pays a 2 to 6% tax on payroll
• Page 167: Any individual who doesn’t’ have acceptable healthcare (according to the government) will be taxed 2.5% of income.
• Page 170: Any NON-RESIDENT alien is exempt from individual taxes (Americans will pay for them).
• Page 195: Officers and employees of Government Healthcare Bureaucracy will have access to ALL American financial and personal records.
• Page 203: “The tax imposed under this section shall not be treated as tax.” Yes, it really says that.
• Page 239: Bill will reduce physician services for Medicaid. Seniors and the poor most affected.”
• Page 241: Doctors: no matter what specialty you have, you’ll all be paid the same (thanks, AMA!)

Welll is there or is there not a health care reform bill that we can all access for ourselves? I have links to one Congressional version from June 14, 2009 and one Senate version from July, but Obama keeps saying his critics can’t criticize because there’s no bill yet, but he keeps saying what the bill contains.
So which is it? Why not just suspend the debate until a bill is ready to be voted on, give the American people and politicians 3 weeks to look it over and then have a national debate?

Rudy, I listen to Rush every day. What e-mail did Eva copy from? And how does anyone know what in the bill?

“What e-mail did Eva copy from? And how does anyone know what in the bill?”
The bill in question is HR 3200. It’s available on the web.
From Politifact, July 30th:
It may be the longest chain e-mail we’ve ever received. A page-by-page analysis of the House health care bill argues that reform will end the health care system as we know it: “Page 29: Admission: your health care will be rationed! … Page 42: The ‘Health Choices Commissioner’ will decide health benefits for you. You will have no choice. … Page 50: All non-US citizens, illegal or not, will be provided with free health care services.”
Most of what the e-mail says is wrong. In fact, it’s a clearinghouse of bad information circulating around the Web about proposed health care changes, so we thought it would be helpful to address a bunch of its claims…

Hmm, Rush Limbaugh claims Obama’s health care plan is the Conyers bill, HR 676.
Limbaugh: “Obama’s health care plan will be, one, written by a committee whose head says he doesn’t understand it — that would be John Conyers — his health care plan will be, two, passed by Congress that has not read it; number three, signed by a president who smokes; four, funded by a Treasury chief who didn’t pay his taxes; five, overseen by a Surgeon General who is obese; and, six, financed by a country that’s nearly broke. What could possibly go wrong with this?“

When Palin lied by calling end of life care a “Death Panel”, the President did not act fast enough condemning her, IMO. I’m glad he spoke as he did.
I think HR 3200 is flawed. It’s vague, and there is too much wiggle room for corrupt senators to give away our money to insurance companies and HMO’s.
We need to have some intelligent discourse on the healthcare crisis. It is a very complicated problem, touching on religion, morals, finance, politics, and (the reality of) pain and death.
Calling names and screaming does not solve the problem. If you think there is no problem, please think again.
We pay more and get less than every other country in the world. 10,000 Americans lose health insurance EVERY DAY because they lose their job, or just can’t afford the insurance cost.

I, personally feel that Obama was pushed into office due to the liberal sites, like ABC news. I never saw such love, devotion for the president elect, except with him. He is taking away our rights, liberty and freedoms-everything about America, yet we continue to ‘believe that he is the one’ for this country. I am ashamed that I have a president that supports abortion, and total government control. He denies anything with Christian values, so it is very hard for me to find him pleasing, although I guess we just have to accept his ‘dictatorship.’ The people that think he is Mr. Right will disagree in the end, once you have no control and government forces you to live your life under their command.
Posted by: Kate | August 24, 2009, 10:50 am 10:50 am
Personally what I would like to see is all for profit health insurance be legally changed to non-profit health insurance agencies. People should see a major cut in prices then! Secondly, I do think that the public option can coexist with non-profit health insurance. Here’s how, Anyone who buys their own insurance doesn’t pay the tax for the public option. Anyone who doesn’t buy their own insurance gets taxed for being on the public option. Why tax those who use the public option? Simple, you pay for what you use. Plus, some of those that would end up on the public option are the ones who could get insurance through their jobs but they do not elect to.

I personally think that Obama would not have been made president if he had been white. But since he is black, and we all wanted to make history by electing the first ever black president, we voted for him. We didnt all consider the issues. We didnt really think about his platform, we just wanted to make history. Now, Obama is still new to his office, and yet he is already working for this healthcare reform, that is literally a death penalty for some people. Simply because they stand the less chance of surviving…however, have you not heard of miracles?? Miracles can occur. And we shouldnt try to be God by letting people die, when we may have the power to save them. In addition, how dare Obama call on religious leaders, when he is for abortion is now also for death penalty?!
I think that we should all stand
together and firmly tell Obama to
“revise” his plan. For this plan is
nothing more than a death penalty to our
beloved ones.
