Will Joe Run?

Joe Kennedy was quite moving last night when he kicked off his uncle’s Irish wake. Funny too.  He also seemed to be enjoying himself.  Enough to get back into the arena and run for Teddy’s seat?  Seemed like it to me.  Take a look and tell me what you think…

Except that he physically abused his first wife- Had to drop out of the race of governor- Kennedy legacy perhaps?

Is he qualified for this particular Senate seat? What is his normal blood alcohol content? What about dead women? Mass. doesn’t elect just anyone as a senator. Did he at least make up stories about service in Vietnam during the war?

Oh! please …we dont have a monarchy system…no more Kennedy’s, lets get some fresh names and faces in the Senate.

Enough with the Kennedy’s! Enough with all this fawning over a man who’s idea of health care will leave us waiting for care much like Mary Jo Kopechne was left waiting for someone to come and care for her.

The funniest thing about this sorry spectacle is how it time and again proves Democrat hypocrisy.
When Clinton was running for President, there was noisy talk among Obama supporting Democrats of how America didnt like dynasties etc.. Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton is BAD… so it went.
That was of course until Ted Kennedy thew in his support for Obama! The Kennedy dynasty has wielded more political power than any other family in American politics (including the eeeeeeevil Boosh family) – and the Democrats were MORE THAN HAPPY to keep re-electing Kennedy’s to power – but suddenly when Clinton was running for President, they got strangely allergic to power concentrating in one family !
And when Kennedy threw in his support, all talk of “dynastic” politics suddenly disappeared. As Chris Matthews pandered this week, many Democrats did believe that the Kennedy “torch” was being passed on to Obama ! Camelot LIVES Forever !
And now Democrat party hacks like Stephanopoulos are openly begging for another Kennedy to run for the Senate in such an “innocent way” ! gee folks, what do you think, are you ready for another Kennedy ?
George is probably trying to make up for the disappointment of not having Caroline in the Senate – you see, there HAS TO BE a Kennedy in the Senate.
Mass. deserves this and much worse.

Some of these comments are so … ugly. Ugly comments about the family of someone who just died usually reflect a commenter who themselves are spiritually unmistakably ugly.

Reality check: why would we need a Chavez supporter in the Senate when we already have one in the White House? And please don’t censor comments you don’t agree with – it’s very un-American.

In all the eulogies about Ted Kennedy, (What a waste of air time), I saw several instances of his bombastic declaration of his decision to run for the Presidency.
Not once have I seen his bumbling, fumbling answer to the question (on national TV) in response to the question of why was he running for President. His response to a simple question killed his ability to beat Jimmy Carter (of all people), – and perhaps another killing had something to do with it!

Time to forget about the bootlegging, rapping, murdering, racist clan and get someone else in that seat

Now, now CoarseHair, please dont say things like that – Patrick says that it only shows how “unmistakably ugly” your soul is !
For Patrick’s sake, apologize immediately ! Otherwise he might start crying.Spare him his tears, please.
Thank you.

People here do not want anymore Kennedy’s, well I have to say NO MORE BUSH’S either.
Many of the young Bushies have been arrested, have had drug problems and have not had an inclination to sign up and serve their country.
The only difference between the two families are their
political party.

George, i dont think you will be able to get a balanced poll on this q, it seems like only the extremes are commenting. I’m from Mass, South Boston, and I know 1st hand what the Kennedys have done. As some one wrote this week, he was born a Kennedy but died one of us. He did more work for the poor & disadvantaged than any other senator in history. And beyond that, he knew that his (R) counterparts would go home & use him as a punching bag, use his name to rile up their constituents, but @ the end of the day, they were his friends. Too bad those constituents seem unable to do the same for him. Being civil is now out of fashion in politics.

When can I donate to the Joe’s run for the Senate. The Kennedy’s did not let money ruin them. They had it and reached out to help other’s. It did not go to their heads. Ted Kennedy helped people in his family and around the world. It’s too bad that some of Republicans can’t see that. (Right Rush and Sean) Fox News- We lie, you decide.

“Did he at least make up stories about service in Vietnam during the war?”
Why would that matter anymore? You’ve had no president yet who served in Vietnam, so what?
Your last president flew around my state while his VP spent an inordinate amount of effort to avoid service all together.

I am left speechless at the hateful messages left on this blog. I cannot believe the mean spirited rants that were posted. I feel safe to say, “the individuals who posted the hateful remarks, are the same individuals who partake in hateful acts throughout our country.” Ted led a life that was truthful and honest. Yes, Ted used poor judgment in his youth, but as an American, he was offered a second chance, and he changed the lives of countless others.

I “like many” am sick of the so called Kennedy legacy in politics. seriously JFK “both” were womanizers and hardly role models, and Ted, well his actions, or lack therof speak for themselve.
So NO JOE, please do not run, your family has taken enough of the American pitty for this lifetime…..and the next…

Kennedy was just a government worker who kicked the bucket. Why is everyone so infatuated by a bunch of civil servants?????

Posted by: obamabot | August 29, 2009, 3:42 pm 3:42 pm

If for no other reason than his masterful handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis, John Kennedy should (and by many, is) regarded as America’s greaterst president. There is little question that in Robert Kennedy’s support of civil rights, marshalling forces against the mob, and other legal work, our nation was blessed with its finest Attorney General. Edward, of course, became a legendary U.S. Senator, among the two or three greatest in U.S. history.
Cry nepotism or family tradition all you like, but this legacy indeed qualifies Joe to run for his uncle’s Senate seat. The Kennedy family has given more to our nation and done more for its people, than any family in U.S. history. If Joe announces for the seat, I shall campaign for him.

I’m an old Andy of Mayberry democrat and I suspect that there are a lot of Andy of Mayberry republicans. Too bad we don’t talk to each other anymore. All of Mayberry’s residents were just like my own family and friends growing up down south (east Tennessee), from the functional to the occasionally dysfunctional. Today’s Mayberry is not like that of old, but surely we can figure out a way to embrace the change. I have to believe that all across the globe, we are all basically Andy of Mayberry people in our hearts. And that includes me, you, blacks, whites, Muslims, Jews, Buddists, Hindus, etc.

If you’re against having a Kennedy or a Bush or a Clinton … Don’t vote for em!! But if a majority does … so be it. I’ve seen Joe speak many times and he’s seems very talented and quite knowledgable. Maybe if we don’t like elequence with the language and intelligence and would rather have people who we can go out and drink with … I guess there’s always Palin, another Bush or Joe the plumber. Is that where the future of American lies?

Posted by: unity | August 29, 2009, 4:30 pm 4:30 pm

This is not about the Bush or Kennedy families, but rather, who will best serve the citizens of Mass. and the U.S. Please stop bringing up the past and look toward the future.
I hope that the Mass. governor will appoint a Romney like replacement for Teddy, but no matter who fills his seat for the remainder of Ted’s term the people will decide who eventually succeeds him for the long term.

Ted Kennedy is one of the poster children as to why we need term limits in the House and Senate. There are too many folks in office which havebecome dependant upon the perks of the office instead of being in office to serve their country.

Posted by: Sandcrab1612 | August 29, 2009, 6:34 pm 6:34 pm

The Republicans don’t have a leader. When children don’t have a leader they get cranky and misbehave. They’re still sore and jealous that they lost the election. Nothing more, nothing less. There is a man that could lead the Republicans, but most Republicans don’t want an intelligent person to run their party. They would rather have someone like Sarah Palin that doesn’t know the difference between a country and a continent, Africa, like Bush calling Australia-Austria. Someday you Republican childrens will learn.

I think that Joe is not capable of taking this office. He is not smart and not politically savvy. Joe is not qualified. He barely got out of his undergraduate program at UMA-Boston. His speech was not smooth or inspirational; he seemed forced. I say ‘No to Joe’ with good cause.

“The Kennedy dynasty has wielded more political power than any other family in American politics (including the eeeeeeevil Boosh family)”
Citation please. The last three generations of Bush family includes two U.S. Senators, one Supreme Court Justice, two Governors, one Vice President and one two term President and another one term president.
Most historians I have read document the Bush family as a more powerful political dynasty than the Kennedy one, for good reason (reality and the documented facts).

Posted by: jhw539 | August 29, 2009, 8:44 pm 8:44 pm

HELLO….
Any family could be a Kennedy dynasty. You are all missing something really key here… Joe Kennedy instilled in his family a sense of public service for one’s community and more importantly, one’s country. That is what drives this family. That is what they believe, that is what they live and through their actions that is what they do. Are the rest of you jealous because you didn’t start your own dynasty or grow up in one? Get lives.

I admired the Kennedy brothers and believe they represent the best America has to offer the world. To all the spiteful posts from today, grow up and get lives people. If you had to deal with even one tenth of the pain and hostility Ted Kennedy triumphed over, you’d have some appreciation for the power of transformation in life. Show some decency and respect.

For starters..There is NO CLinton Dynasty! Just a husband and wife both involved in politics! ( this is a sample of the inablilty of some for critical reasoning) Maybe, CHelsea WILL make it a dynasty………hasn’t happened yet!
Part of the POWER of being from a rich family is the FREEDOM to CHOOSE, whether to remain faithful to ones integrity!
Poor ones are ofen forced to allow their wealthy contributors to decide policy!
Having money DOES provide for buying cover ups and silence regarding family misdeeds. Don’t you think the Kennedy Family could have gone this route if they chose?
My Family has a higher than average sense of integrity, & community service,
which has been passed down for many generations., carefully, deliberately just as with the Kennedy Family.it is operative; tho none of us has chosen to run for elective office. And let me tell you it is a real hinderance in getting along in todays corrupt atmosphere, , but it is THERE, governing my choices daily. And I am PROUD of WHO I AM.
Those of you who lack it, are the first to point fingers, criticize, and crucify!
Until you learn to think clearly ( which would be a tremendous service to our country,) instead of believe, repeat, and reinforce lies put out by those with no consience, or integrity,
leading to their own gain NOT YOURS, America will continue it’s disastrous slide into 3rd world status!

In answer to your question, George, I was far more impressed by Edward Kennedy, Jr.’s speech at the funeral than Joe’s. I did not see that Joe’s remarks were any indicator of wanting to throw his hat in the ring. It would be a disservice to the public and the Kennedy family for the media to make news where none existed.

Posted by: Pat | August 30, 2009, 11:03 am 11:03 am

I hope so George. I marvel at the thought of how these typically ungrateful naysayers have benefited from the Kennedys’ years of public service?

Please…this guy is so empty. Let him party, entertain, talk all he wants. He is without sincerity, intelligence or talent.
His talk about his uncle was rambling, self-serving and vapid. This was an embarrassing example of some of the people who end up in office.
NO on Joe Kennedy — a joke.

Posted by: patsy Coffee | August 30, 2009, 11:14 am 11:14 am

George you are right about Joe giving a moving tribute to his Uncle Ted. He is a gifted speaker and it comes naturally to him.
You also hear about Ted Jr. as well now, sometimes it the ones that don’t want it that come up with the moving tributes as well.
Vicki was so very strong, strong for all of us too.
With Caroline in anther article I read a poster say this about Caroline, “I wish she was the Senator from New York” A lot of us felt this way. It was not a campaign in the traditional sense for her, but her supporters made their presence felt. Even posters on forums and articles jumped in on that one in supporting her. But because of the rules She didn’t have a visible team backing her she was on her own on that one.
I don’t know whats in store for the Kennedys no one does. This is their journey in life and the pressure is off in a way.
No Kennedy should feel the pressure to step forward. Nature will takes it course.
Patrick would feel the lonely feeling Ted once felt now walking through the halls of Congress. Ted felt this walking the halls of the Senate. Patrick did wonderful the last few days. Do not feel lonely Patrick ok. Time heals all wounds. The kids will need you too.
I read this pundit Gaby Wood’s article “President Obama leads US political elite at Senator Ted Kennedy’s funeral”
George this caught my attention where Gabe quoting Ted’s brother Robert -
“I guess the only reason we’ve survived is that there are more of us than there is trouble.” Robert Kennedy
I have a feeling that there will always be the Kennedys serving somewhere in Public life in one form or anther and doing everyone proud.

whoa. settle down people. if you want to be intelligent voters, perhaps you could look into whether THIS particular Kennedy could be supported (or otherwise) on his own merits. if you discount him because of his name and family, you are equally lacking in judgement as someone who would support him for the same. try stepping up and THINKing. i know, i know, it takes more effort.

The level of hate on this blog is unreal. All the Kennedys ever did — in public life — was work to improve the lives of others. From Eunice’s commitment to the disabled to Jack’s aim for the moon, from Bobby’s effort to get out of Vietnam to Teddy’s commitment to improve the minimum wage, the family has tried to improve the lives of Americans.
And here on this blog there are dozens of people with such anger and vitriol toward the Kennedys. Sick. Really.

That he’s a Kennedy shouldn’t disqualify him from consideration. Joe was a Congressman for years and has done good work since in his career.

Posted by: Justin | August 31, 2009, 8:01 pm 8:01 pm

Who says Joseph P. Kennedy is not qualified? Of course he is. He has all the necessary qulifications. A tumultous personal life, check. Failed first marriage, check. Cosying up to an enemy dictator (Chavez), like his uncle Ted (Andropov).
Come to think of it, the pattern for the Kennedys was set by his namesake and grandfather – Joseph Kennedy, Sr. A bootlegger who cheated on his wife (Rose) and was friends with a dictator (Hitler).
Corrupt family roots, corrupt politics, treason – a Kennedy family tradition. Perfect qualifications to be US Senator from Massachusetts!
