Another Link Between Top Obama Official and “9/11 Truther” Movement? Source Says No *

On Thursday an administration official told ABC News that controversial White House official Van Jones's signature on a 2004 petition suggesting that the Bush administration let 9/11 happen in order to justify war because he did not carefully review the language in the petition.

It's worth pointing out that Ben Smith at Politico has spoken to two signatories of that petition, Rabbi Michael Lerner and historian Howard Zinn, who say they were misled about what they were signing. And the conservative website Little Green Footballs points out that Rachel Ehrenfeld, author of “Funding Evil; How Terrorism is Financed and How to Stop It" has posted on her website, the American Center for Democracy: "PLEASE NOTE: Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld is not a signatory of the 911Truth.org. She has asked several times to have her named removed from the list, but the organization failed to comply."

On Friday, another link between Jones and the Truther movement seemed to have emerged Friday, though a source close to Jones denied it.

It all seemed a distraction for the Obama administration, which spent much time and energy belittling the fringe "Birther" movement  of those alleging, despite myriad evidence, that President Obama was not born in the U.S.

Jones said in a statement yesterday that he did not agree with the 2004 Truther petition and it "does not reflect my views now or ever."

On Friday a 2002 document emerged in which Jones was on the "organizing committee" of a newspaper called WAR TIMES — "A New, Biweekly, Tabloid Newspaper Opposing the 'War on Terrorism.'"

The WAR TIMES document asserts that the "world's most powerful nation has mercilessly bombed Afghanistan and is installing a neo-colonial government of its own choosing, although that country has never attacked the U.S. Millions of Afghans have been displaced and face starvation this winter. The administration has also green-lighted massive Israeli assaults on Palestine, and it threatens to attack Iraq, Lebanon, Somalia, and other countries. The agenda seems clear: to remake the world in the rightwing image with little regard for human consequences."

WAR TIMES's announcement appeared with the announcement of a protest march demanding a congressional inquiry into whether and how much the Bush administration may have played a role in the September 11, 2001 attacks.

But a source close to Jones said that “Jones didn’t participate in and wasn’t part of this march at all. He spent a very brief time on the board of the magazine War Times.” The source says no other connections to the Truther movement other than the petition exist.

Wrong. Asking for proof that he was is not making a claim that he wasn’t. When you get pulled over and the cop asks for your driver’s license, he’s not accusing you of not having one.
Oh, and: A birth is slightly different than a mass murder. Hope that helps.

What’s this say about a man who let’s this hanger oner bring him down? Doesn’t he get why people don’t trust him? Add up the birth certificate, the stimulas, the freaking budget, the autos, the banks, health care, these creepy freaking czars, his own words in his own books (communists, radicals, singing Arabic prayers, etc.) and all of the other stuff and what do you get? Well, since he seems to embrace all of this some of us can only come to one conclusion and it ain’t good.

Want to know why Fox News and Glenn Beck is gaining a rapid rise in ratings? THEY are the ONLY news organization bringing the public this information…..
And what does this administration do about this problem? Sick it’s goons like Color of Change.org on Glenn Beck to try and silence him……

“Birthters” question the validity of Obama’s birth certificate. “Truhers” suggest that officials in the Bush administration arranged for the slaughter of 2,000 innocent people in America in order to…well, something or other.
Some people apparently “question the official version,” which is one thing. Van Jones suggested that “people within the current administration may indeed have deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, perhaps as a pretext for war.”

I saw video on Beck last night of Valerie Jarrett with a huge smile on her face at Kos Kidz’ big hoopla stating triumphantly that
“we” have been “watching (and by implication cheering him on) Jones ‘since Oakland.’”
This was no vetting “slip.” Van Jones was hand picked by Obama. It’s almost like Obama making Rev. Wright a Czar!

I live in Louisville, KY. Today’s Courier Journal had no mention of this new revelation regarding Van Jones. Also no mention of Charlie Rangel’s payments to members of the congress investiagting his actions and no mention of the conference call organized by the Endowment for the Arts, hand-picked members of the arts community and a White House representative. I don;t care what political party you belong to or what your policies are, the media under coverage of this President, this administrations tactics and methods is deplorable.

Either there was no FBI/CIA vetting at all, or Obama over-road it, or possibly both. Obama knew this guy’s views very well. They are the same as Rev. Wright’s views and they’re the same as Obama’s views and those of the other members of his admin.

Van Jones is entitled to his opinion and beliefs like everyone, the problem enters when his beliefs become policy. Same with Obama, I have never believed that he was a friend of Israel, it has turned into policy, I have a problem with that because it is a policy based on prejudice. Same with the Gates affair, who knows if Obama’s biased views about cops will become policy. It seems this administration doesn’t care to check its radical beliefs at the door when it comes to policy and that should concern everyone. Obama took an oath to defend our shared principles and beliefs, not his own.

Comepare: unlike the situation when demonstators protested the invasion of Iraq, George W’s attack on the US Constitution, or the World Trading Oganization.
Obama going to speak to school children is now under attack, like just about anything he does. No investigation into these people and exposure of their lies, not serious efforts are made to show them for what they are is being made by the media.
The media is controlled, directly or indirectly, by Murdock/Fox news and the racist regimes on the right in the US.
Obama has show incredible weakness in executing his policies; typical democratic party flaw – no organization or forethought to execution.

Could it be that Obama really believed all the hype and press about himself and he believed (mistakenly) that the American voters gave him a mandate to dismantle the capitalist- and Christian-based USA and remake it into the radical socialist vision of Obama?
Common sense says that no administration would put a person like Van Jones in a position close to the President. That is unless the President wanted and needed the Van Jones-types in positions of power to carry out the Obama tear down and remake America.

I am not big on this whole conspiracy theory stuff, but I wish some more respectable news agencies would start looking into some of these “czars.” The appointment of special advisors has a long history, but I’m not sure if a President has ever had this many, or if it really meets the design of our Constitutional government. I wish someone other than FOX would look at this from a more “balanced” perspective.

The other problems with Van Jones, he hasn’t created one single green job because they can’t decide what a green job is. So they are going to spend millions trying to define a green job. Google the AP story on the weatherization of homes jobs that were supposed to be created with the stimulus money. Not one has started because they don’t know how to get the money through the maze of bureaucracy. Your government at work, your government dollars being spent. They can’t even handle weatherization projects through non profits and we are supposed to trust them with health care.

• What was that person’s connection to Van Jones or Mr. Jones’s political sponsor?
• Who, exactly, was Mr. Jones’ sponsor for this job? How much money did he/she contribute to the Obama campaign?
• Did the Secret Service notify anyone on the White House staff — or the President or First Lady or Vice President Biden — that Mr. Jones had an arrest record on file with police in two cities?
• Did the Secret Service protest any of this, objecting to Mr. Jones’ clearance?
• If the Secret Service did object, who overruled them? The President? The Chief of Staff? Someone else?
• If the answer to this last question is yes, and the Secret Service was overruled by the President or someone else, why did this happen?

What relevance is there to “for as long as he’s been active out in Oakland”

Without sounding paranoid, if you read each part of her statement and expand on it, this tells me they, Obama and his political promoters are “we”
“For as long as he’s been active out in Oakland” tells me that this group has been organized and ready for this day for a long, long time
And “we have captured that” tells me that they accept, welcome and are absolutely delighted that this “comrade” is on board now as he aligns with their agenda.
Can someone tell me I am wrong here?

The difference is that most liberals see the “truthers” as being as silly and paranoid as the “birthers”–their rants are not part of official policy.
The remarks about Daily Kos are a lie. In the interests of promoting free speech, the owner of the site believes in self-monitoring by the community whenever possible, however posting guidelines specifically state that “Diaries which engage in wild speculation without any proof are strongly discouraged. Repeatedly posting diaries consisting largely or entirely of wild speculation is an abuse of site policy. Bear in mind that that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.” The owner of the site has specifically banned any 9/11 “truther” diaries and has done so for a number of years.
I know Jake lives for comparative trivialization, but this is inventing a comparison when there is none.

While I would certainly credit Jake Tapper with at least covering this story, there seems to be a bigger story concerning media bias concerning the coverage and investigative reporting of this president. I cannot remember in my lifetime the news concerning a president massaged or totally ignored by the press as it has been done with Obama. Like many who have posted here, I first thought that it was no more than media bias. It has become so blatant recently that I must consider that there may be those who are actually conspiring with this government. After all, with tough times and many of these corporations seeing a diminishing of their bottom line, there may be some who may want to remain tight with a government that is handing out billions in taxpayer money.

It looks like the page at rense is displaying TWO different, unrelated press releases on the same page – one at a time.
The first press release is for the 9/11 march, but doesn’t appear to involve Van Jones.
The second press release is about the formation of the “War Times” magazine. Van Jones is listed as being on the “Organizing Committee” for War Times – not for the 9/11 march.

This is ludicrous. Not only was McCain an American by birthright (two American citizen parents), But legally, he was not born in Panam, but in A U.S Navy Hospital in the Canal Zone, an unincorporated territory of the United States. This is because the Hay-Bunau Varilla treaty (much-derided by Panama), which granted the USA “the right to act as if it were sovereign, in perpetuity” was then in effect. In other words, no Status of Forces Agreement. This treaty was way more generous to U.S. interests.
No lawsuit alleging that someone born of American parents, in a military hospital flying only the U.S. flag, in an unincorporated territory governed by statute by a Governor appointed by the President (typically from the Army Corps of Engineers) would ever prosper.
The Canal Zone was always a Federal Government Company town from top to bottom, and to claim otherwise in foolish.

I’ll give you a C- for the clarification of the 9/11 march announcement vs. the announcement of the magazine War Times being formed, Jake. I do appreciate you making the effort, however.
The most important point is that these announcements appear together on Rense.com – a website that talks about UFO abductions, etc. Only the people at Rense.com can explain how or why those two press releases appear on the same page.
You could easily understand the frustration if it was your name that appeared in one press release and you were circumstantially connected to another press release that happened to be on the same 3rd party website.
My point was that what appears on that web page does NOT state that he organized the march. It DOES state that he organized the magazine. His name appears in the magazine’s masthead under “Business” (as opposed to “editorial,” etc.)
When there is a movement afoot to destroy a man’s career, one should be careful how they wield their broad paintbrushes.

According to a 2007 New York Times/CBS News poll, only 16% of Americans think the government is telling the truth about 9/11 and the intelligence prior to the attacks:
“Do you think members of the Bush Administration are telling the truth, are mostly telling the truth but hiding something, or are they mostly lying?
Telling the truth 16%
Hiding something 53%
Mostly lying 28%
Not sure 3%”
Guess folks are having a hard time with the fact that the buildings came down completely at free fall speeds despite the fact the fire was limited to 10-12 floors and in only 90 minutes of what appeared to be a low intensity fire.
Also no explanation was given why WTC 7 came down in the same fashion despite not being hit by any aircraft. The building with the FBI files in it on all the major investigations of the day like Enron.
Finally the story about 19 cavedwellers learning how to fly airliners in the most heavily defended airspace in the world thus defeating the FBI, CIA, NSA, NORAD and the US Air Force is hard to believe.
Why would anybody by surprised by these polls.

That poll does NOT prove that most Americans believe in the “truther” movement. It proves that the american people think that most govt officials, dem and rep, are in a CYA mode 99% of the time. That most americans believe that people in the govt, going back to the Clinton years up to 9/11, did not do enough intelligence work to prevent these attacks from happening.
The truthers disgust me, for they claim that those who died in Flight 77 were a myth, that fellow citizens were involved in a massive operation to kill, and that the heroes of Flight 93 do not deserve our gratitude. THAT IS BEYOND THE MEASURE OF DEPLORABLE.
Tell me, how is it that NOT ONE PERSON involved in this MASSIVE OPERATION AND COVER-UP has come forward out of guilt our greed with their story?

Although it is not beyond the realm of possibility that the US Government is hiding SOME facts about 9/11, to believe that crap the Truthers ascribe to is absolutely laughable. Only true nut jobs could believe that those poor people who perished in Flight 77 are still alive somewhere. I know very little about physics or how quickly a building should implode after a jet crashes into it however I doubt even physics scholars know either. They can study and extrapolate what SHOULD have happened in an event but until that event has been replicated in a lab or elsewhere it is impossible to know what other factors could have intervened. I believe we all have had things happen in our lives that did not behave as they should have or were predicted to,etc. So called Truthers who expound such nonsense are an embarrassment.

The next person that calls the fire “Low intensity” needs to go try and extinguish an oil fire. That sucker was being fed by AV fuel and that alone heightened the intensity beyond what the structure was built for. The metal structure had no chance when the floors started to collapse because of MOMENTUM. It is easier to stop a bullet going 350 mph than to stop an oceanliner going 1 mph. Kinetic energy is a very volatile subject and even the physicists are only hypothesizing when they tell you what “might” happen. Truthers ignored common sense and tried to stoke the fires of hysteria in order to show how “da big bad Gubmint” should be held to blame for everything. Lock ‘em up in a rubber room and let the rest of us think clearly for once. Obama’s choice is definitely baggage and he should step aside for a BETTER choice.

First of all, I strongly believe that anyone born on a U. S. ship, in a U. S. territory are “natural born” American citizens; and no matter where an individual is born, if one or both parents are American citizens then that individual is a “natural born” citizen.
My comment is that there WOULD HAVE BEEN even more lawsuits challenging McCain’s eligibility.
NOW THEN!
The 14th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution, Section 1, reads (emphasis is mine):
“All persons BORN or naturalized IN THE United States, and subject to the jusisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”
The U. S. Constitution does not specifically define the term “natural born” citizen. The 14th Amendment actually muddies up the water by implying that a person born outside the borders of the United States is not a “natural born” citizen. It does not even consider the situation where the parents are American citizens.
Yes, as I mentioned previously, Immigration Law recognizes individuals born outside the United States with one or both parents as American citizens, as a being an American citizen–with all the rights thereof. HOWEVER, Immigration Law does not define the individual as being a “natural born” citizen. The U. S. Supreme Court will ultimately have to make the ruling.

Have you watched the WTC 7 building with the Mayors bunker in it? Somethings not right with that for sure. A rectangular building like that falling into itself. Some might believe stuff about flight 77 or other things but look at all the facts that you can find before making a quick judgement about one or two things people say. If you choose not to look for yourselves then your helping only the ones that might have gotten away with something. The 9/11 commission won’t get it jack. Better wake up and search for the truth while you still can. Both parties are bought and paid for and you know it. 9/11 was just a small part of the big picture.

People in this country are not stupid just not informed. I frequently hear people who support Obama say he won a majority of Americans. He won about sixty five million votes in a country of three hundred million plus people with a eligible electorate of two hundred million plus people. Obama’s winning numbers are nota majority in either case. He only won a majority of those who chose to vote. When apathetic citizens wake up and see what is going on in this country and become involved then the President’s supporters will be a decided minority. On one of the Fox news programs someone alleged that Van Jones didn’t read all of one of the truther petitions. He can’t dance around the issue with that type of excuse. If he is not fired for being a radical he should be fired because of not being competent. If he is kept on board then this country really needs to be concerned if the president’s loyalty is with this guy instead of the citizens.

It was the Republicans who passed the 1875 Civil Rights Act; and enforced the right for African-Americans to vote in the South. (Unfortunately the U. S. Supreme Court ruled the 1875 Civil Rights Act unconstitutional in 1883–”the 14th Amendment prohibits discrimination by the state, not by individuals.”)
It was the Republican Party that broke the filibuster which allowed the passing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Van Jones has every right, guaranteed by the 1st Amendment, to ask questions that concern him. He has every right, guaranteed by the 1st Amendment, to sign a petition requesting, or yes, demanding, answers to still unanswered questions as to 1) who benefited from the events of 9/11 — what are their names?, what are their affiliations?– individuals who actually benefited from the events of 9/11. Three thousand plus individuals were killed in the initial blast (and it was a blast first, we all heard it, until the news audio was wiped of the sound of the blasts), thousands of first responders have died because, or remain with severe respiratory diseases because our government lied to them, saying the air was safe to breathe, thousands of our finest citizen-soldiers have died in the completely unnecessary war in Iraq, and the war in Afghanistan, tens of thousands of innocent civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan have been killed in our name. Thousands or our troops have been very, very severely wounded in these unnecessary wars, they received shameful medical care from these privatized “hospitals,” hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi and Afghani civilians have life long injuries. AND — we must ask, it is our moral duty to ask, it is our requirement as citizens of a democracy — to ask who benefited from these catastrophies of 9/11 and the Iraqi and Afghani wars? There are individuals who made a hell of a lot of money from these catastrophies, there are individuals who grabbed a lot of power they have no right to have in a democracy. Are these the same individuals who are trying to equate democracy with a right to more choices of consumer goods, privatizing what has always been in the public domain, selling our the common good to the highest bidder? This is our common good?
As good, thinking citizens, we need to inquire as to which NeoCONvicts made out like bandits on 9/11 and thereafter. We need to do more thinking, questioning faulty sounding news stories, and applauding those citizens who stand up and express informed opinions.

As far as all of you who keep slamming Bush, remember that we are now spending over three times as much on his war than we did on Bush’s and we have lost more of our hero’s in 2009 than any other year since 2001. Our debt is higher, more people out of work and a country that more divided than it’s been since the civil war. Is this really the change you had hoped for? Parties are arguing, friends are arguing and families are arguing. You can’t get a straight answer from any of the news media they are all one side or the other.
Do any of you remember the guy from Russia that predicted the the US would seperate and be in a civil war in June or July of 2010? Thats next year folks and it’s beginning to look like he might have been right.

Do the math. The Obama administration came to the White House on January 20, 2009. It is now September 5, 2009. That’s less than 8 months in office. To claim that it is the Obama administration that has put us in debt far into the future, is using fuzzy math at its fuzziest! The wars in Iraq and Afghanstan plus the hundreds of billions paid out to private contractors to do such sloppy work, the torture program of Bush Ad men, the surveillance programs on millions of innocent Americans- this all costs a ton of money. Yeah, Rumsfeld advertized that we could do war on the cheap — but, no being math wiz himself, he didn’t calculate all the head wounds, arm wounds, leg wounds, heart wounds it would cost for life-time care for our citizen soldiers.
Actually, the delusions of grandure of the Bush Ad men is what put us in the financial hole that stretches farther than the eye can see. They convinced themselves–against the recommendations of COMBAT GENERALS!–that Iraqis would greet us with flowers, that we would have troops in Iraq to liberate the people so that they would have democracy, even as the Bush Ad men were stealing ours, that — look Iraqis now had cell phones and cable t.v., even as their their bombed out sewers were overflowing, their schools were unsafe to attend, their sons and daughters were being slaughtered in front of them. The Bush Ad men are really, really rich today, are you Garyd? Do you feel more secure now that millions of innocent Iraqis were wounded in our name, that tens of thousands of our own bravest citizens were lied to and now bear the scars of a terrible battle? Have you ever been on a battlefield Garyd? Think. Ask questions. Always look at the opposite side of the argument to see a point of view you oppose so that when you state your argument it is based on fact not just on somebody elses opinion. I don’t see the point of this article. So the man signed a petition. So what. Don’t we still have freedom of speech. Comparing the”truthers” to the “birthers” is a strange comparison. In the later a birth certificate and birth announcement was produced by the accused party. There has been no real investigation of what happened on 9/11. No real evidence produced. Even the participants in the 9/11 commission report said it its final report was flawed in many ways. Why doesn’t your investigative reporter work on that story in remembrance of the victims on that horrible day.

I am done with ABC, NBC and CBS. A friend of mine told me to check out FOX and He was right, Fox is fair and balanced. They have the news days before you do. They cover the stories accurately I am telling all my friends to switch to FOX. OReilly and Beck do not have to make stories up.The Obama Czars/Administration give the stories to them with video. What more could a reporter ask for? Rush Limbaugh seems to be telling the truth way before your organization even thinks about it.

I would wholeheartedly agree that it is inappropriate for any government official to use derogatory/inflammatory language and make grave accusations without reliable evidence.
Might we also agree that it is inappropriate for journalists, news commentators and news stations to use derogatory/inflammatory language and make grave accusations without reliable evidence?
American values require that we hold everyone to the same high standards.
Perhaps we should discuss what the standards should be for news commentators (conservative or liberal) and government officials ( Republicans or Democrats.)
