Axelrod: Obama is Ready to ‘Close’ on Health Care
ABC's Ann Compton reports: Calling this the "9th inning" for health care reform, White House senior advisor David Axelrod tells ABC NEWS President Obama is getting in the game and is "at the point where he can close this" debate.
The President has a big megaphone," Axelrod said, "and he intends to use that megaphone in these final weeks to, to really make clear to the American people what, what’s on the table and how it might help them."
Axelrod describes an address to the nation from the Oval Office as one option. Personal jawboning of a reluctant Congress is a definite.
"I think when the President of the United States looks you in the eye and makes the case I think that there is, there is a gravitas to that that most legislators understand," Axelrod said.
Until now, the White House seemed to resist calls from supporters and critics alike demanding that the President put down on the table his own specific version of health care reform. Now, Axelrod indicates the president is ready, adding "It’s time to wrap them up and move this thing forward. And the President is going to be central to that."
As to the fate of a government option plan to compete with private insurance, Axelrod suggested the controversial concept is gone but not forgotten: "The spirit that led him to support a public option is still very much at play here and so you know he wants competition. He wants choice. "

Pffftttt…… why rush? The bill will not be implemented for TWO more years, so the desperate WANT to rush this through is why?
Because if you rush it through no one has the chance to read the BS hidden in the bill. No one can argue or dispute….one side cannot make up lies while the other disputes those lies or the opposite?

Oh please please Axelrod—put Obama on prime time again.
That should drop him even lower in the polls.
He comes across as an arrogant, elitist, know-it-all.
Let him come out and show his impatience with the American people as if we are too ignorant to understand him…when it is really Obama that is completely out of touch.

The real deal with health care reform is that congress tried to sneak this by the American public without public comment, debate, or even reading the legislation. People soon forget that congress attempted to get this passed by August 1st. The sneak attack speaks volumes about congress and this administration. Now congress is trying to say they are listening to the American people.

I think Hillary would have been a much better president.
She is liberal but not as radical as Obama. And she would have been smart enough not to try and ram everything through all at once.
Like Hillary said when BO called everyone bitter and clinging to religion–Obama is out of touch with regular Americans.
She was so right.

And its not radical to start a trillion dollar war that costs 4000 American lives and countless Iraqi, spy on the American people, and out CIA agents, but it IS radical to try to expand health care for millions of fellow Americans in order to help them throughout their lives.

the Dems are really showing the corporate ‘overlords’ here…it’s truly sad how clear it is in that they have let the corporate world run their admin, effect their policies…all at the same time ‘saying we are different than the Repubs’; that is the really damning part. It’s all a big lie. We barely have two parties. It’s more like one party run by the corporate elite, producing a big ‘show’ for the world to see. Ex. Bank bailout. They have no problem giving our tax dollars to millionaires, but actually helping millions by giving them basic health care (which would cost so much less): Nope. Progressive shouldn’t support this administration any longer. Look elsewhere for leaders for the next election…

Death Panels are coming to America.
—In a letter to The Daily Telegraph, a group of experts who care for the terminally ill claim that some patients are being wrongly judged as close to death.
Under NHS guidance introduced across England to help doctors and medical staff deal with dying patients, they can then have fluid and drugs withdrawn and many are put on continuous sedation until they pass away.
But this approach can also mask the signs that their condition is improving, the experts warn.
As a result the scheme is causing a “national crisis” in patient care, the letter states. It has been signed palliative care experts including Professor Peter Millard, Emeritus Professor of Geriatrics, University of London, Dr Peter Hargreaves, a consultant in Palliative Medicine at St Luke’s cancer centre in Guildford, and four others.—

van jones. van jones…you got to see this man speak.
****
You SHOULD hear him speak, up close and in person. Look him in the eye, shake his hand, judge for yourself.
I feel very sad that Van Jones has become a right wing target. I’ve heard him speak and he’s just amazing in the green economy field. He graduated from Yale is the founder of both the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights and Green For and wrote The Green Collar Economy: How One Solution Can Solve Our Two Biggest Problems (Harper One 2008), a NYT bestseller which has been endorsed by Nancy Pelosi, Tom Daschle and Al Gore. Read it. Be open-minded.
Somehow I’d missed how he became a target, but I opened an email from one of those lists my conservative cousin put me on in jest, and lo and behold, the Van Jones and czar talking points became clear. Glenn Beck is afraid of Van Jones. He actually cried on his television show, scared to death that the communists are taking over and that they’re going to eat the children of America or something. Now, I have to ask, why is Beck’s crybaby fraidy cat thing so appealing to people? Seriously. For the life of me I cannot understand the Glenn Beck appeal.
Unbelievable.

Do our leaders in DC have ears??? Is it not obvious that the American people…the very ones “they” work for…do not want health care reform done in this manner?
It doesn’t matter which, party is trying to ram their agendas down our throats, this country (with all our faults and weaknesses) is built on solid principles and will not allow such partisan attempts to control.
One-party rule, EITHER party…is evil. The Dems have merely run up to their credit card limits a bit more recklessly than the GOP did…they were a bit more discrete until they got caught!
Mid-term…I plug my nose and vote Republican indiscriminately. Next presidential race…BOTH parties…give us someone we can vote for!

The President has had the microphone since the beginning of the debate. ABC offered him prime time coverage and he has been on the road trying to promote it. As Axelrod has stated, there are plans that have been approved by the subcommitties and that’s what they’ll work with. Well, the American people have spoken (both verbally through townhalls and through the polls) that they don’t like certain aspects of the bill. If the President thinks he can talk his way through this, I think he is delusional. Unless he assures Americans that identification will be required to obtain services, abortions won’t be covered, unions won’t get $10B in subsidies and no public option will be included (as well as assurances that he will veto any bill that contains them), he is just talking to a wall.

Our President is an intelligent man and fine speaker. And our President has had ample opportunity to push his beloved healthcare program, with little success. He is now a bit of a lame duck on the subject after trying to deceive Americans by expediting a flawed healthcare bill through Congress before it could be read. Not exactly the stuff that commands trust. After watching Van Johnson today during previous speaking “engagements”, I can’t help but wonder exactly what we voted into office. Why would an avowed communist have our President’s ear? Alas, our President is either a Marxist or has very poor judgement. Neither is the mark of a great American President.

My consolation is that this too liberal president has awoken the silent majority. If the Dems and the president think they’re holding onto power after 2010, they’re kidding themselves. We are awake now, and more and more are awaking each day. Repubs, no consolation for you, because you’ve been almost as bad. My consolation is that the Dems and the president, with every liberal effort they make that goes against common sense, are shooting themselves in the foot. This is over no later than 2010 ALREADY 8 mos. into things. I know they can do a lot more damage in 14 mos. but be forewarned. We are awake, and we’re not taking this anymore. Fiscal responsibility, morality in character, self-reliance as the founding principles–that’s what the American people truly want.
Be true to the principles of humanity that endure…

isn’t it great that he finally wants to make it clear what he wants to do. Of course this sentiment only comes about after trying to ram a thousand page bill through before anyone could read it or understand it.

Mr. Axelrod!!!!
WAKE UP JERK! IN CASE YOU HAVEN’T NOTICED ANYTHING PAST THE LENGTH OF YOUR NOSE……WE THE “COMMON EVERYDAY CITIZENS” HAVE HAD IT WITH YOUR PATHETIC IGNORANCE! WE DON’T WANT YOU, OBAMA, OR ANY OTHER GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL CORRUPTING OUR HEALTH CARE. WE ARE DOING JUST FINE OURSELVES. IF YOU THINK YOU CAN COME UP WITH A WAY TO “ADJUST” OUR CURRENT HEALTH CARE COVERAGE (IN A WAY THAT WOULD ACTUALLY HELP US), I’M SURE YOU WOULD HAVE SUPPORT FROM ALL OF US! YES IT WAS ALL OF US IN WASHINGTON ON SEPT. 12th. IT CERTAINLY DOES REPRESENT THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE’S OPINION AND YOU WILL ALL FIND OUT HOW SERIOUS WE ARE AND THAT WE ARE WATCHING ALL OF YOU!
HOW DARE YOU, AND OTHERS LIKE YOU, CALL ME UNAMERICAN, A THUG, ETC. ETC. IT’S LIKE THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK! OOPS AM I ALLOWED TO SAY THAT? – IN CASE YOU DON’T KNOW WAY BACK MANY YEARS AGO, A KETTLE WAS BLACK AND THAT WAS AN OLD SAYING!!!!
GET OUT OF YOUR BUBBLE IN WASHINGTON AND OPEN YOUR EYES….THERE ARE ACTUALLY PEOPLE OUT HERE IN THE REAL WORLD THAT LOVE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND WE DON’T WANT IT BANKRUPT BECAUSE OF THE GREED AND CORRUPTION THAT IS RAMPANT IN WASHINGTON!
