In advance of his GOP response to President Obama tonight, Rep. Charles Boustany – a cardio-thoracic surgeon — is being welcomed to the national stage with a hit piece circulated by Democrats. It points out that he was sued for malpractice 8 times during his medical career and mocks him for trying to become a British Lord.
The opposition drew an incensed response from Antonia Ferrier, Communications Director to the House Republican Leader: “It’s regrettable that Washington Democrats are dragging through the mud a public servant who’s working hard each and every day for the people of Louisiana. The DNC must be getting desperate. These scurrilous attacks will do nothing to help Democrats rebuild their crashing poll numbers – and nothing to turn around a deeply flawed trillion-dollar health care plan that the American people don’t support.”
Boustany Press Secretary, John Curtsinger, brushed it off saying, "The congressman's medical license is still active…the reason he left practice is that he developed arthritis in his neck and back and was not able to perform the extremely intricate procedures required for heart surgery."
