First Lady Gifts a Taste of the White House
ABC News’ Yunji de Nies Reports: The G20 spouses are not in Washington, but they’ll still get a taste of the White House in Pittsburgh. The First Lady is giving all of her guests White House honey, direct from the beehive near her much talked about garden. They’ll also get an inscribed honey vase, made of hand blown glass, along with a porcelain and platinum tea set inspired by White House China from the Lincoln administration. The First Lady’s Office says, “The use of platinum on the saucer symbolizes Pittsburgh’s steel industry roots; the use of purple is the color of the state flower of Illinois, the purple violet, home states of both Presidents Lincoln and Obama. The porcelain is one-of-a-kind and made by a century old family business in Illinois.” At the bottom of each cup is a rose, the official flower of the United States.

Relax, liz. It is customary for expensive gifts to be given to foreign leaders and/or their spouses on visits to our country. And they reciprocate when our President visits.

I’m just pleased someone in the Protocol obviously stepped up and took charge of the gifts this time around.

First Lady “Gives” a Taste of the White House, not “Gifts”. It’s that pesky noun vs. verb thing.

Dear Lord, have mercy, again, it’s customary to give gifts. Everyone knows that PRESIDENT Obama IS NOT Lincoln, gee whiz.
God Bless America!

Grammarian: assume the omitted “are” of headline grammar: “First Lady Gifts _are_ a Taste of the White House”.
In any event, use of “gift” as a transitive verb is also acceptable.

Poor Queen Liz really got screwed with her gift. All she got was an iPod.

That’s a lovely gift– nicely done, Mrs. Obama. Glad to see the White House staff is learning from their past mistakes. This time, they came up with classy and appropriate gifts.

Thank you, Liz. Lincoln would have been mortified to have been lionized in such a way, much less to have done it himself. I think everyone’s about had it with the Obama’s very high opinion of themselves. It’s all about AMERICA, not them. They are not deity or royalty…sheeesh!

I would just like to know which state is the true ‘home state’ of the president? I thought it was Hawaii. Or is it Illinois, or possibly Massachussetts. Maybe now it’s D.C.? Kenya?

Michelle Obama channels Marie Antoinette:
“Everyone should have a chief of staff and a set of personal assistants.”
