Health Reform Opponent’s Finger Bitten Off

MoveOn.org demonstrators, had aggressively threatened a small group of anti-Obama protesters who were “peaceful people holding up candles and signs.” (Police reports concur that the Obama supporter moved across the street into the group of protesters.) He landed a heavy blow to the face of one protester, who responded by chomping off his pinky.

On the bright side he’s old enough to be on medicare

At 65, the guy had Medicare, the broke govt option for seniors. What kind of person attacks a 65 yr old man? Does the attacker understand the “free” insurance isn’t free, that the IRS will fine him if he doesn’t buy insurance coverage. I doubt it.

He was probably on the death panel anyways.

A pro-health reform guy who was over 65, was attacked by an anti-reform guy (in his 50s) who drove his truck up to the group of pro-reform folks, got out, started yelling and when the 65 year old called him a name the 50ish anti guy attacked the 65 year old pro-reform guy.
People are nuts….at least none of these folks were packing heat….yet.
Everyone needs to just chill out and stop being so nutso with the “I want my country baaaccckkkk” stuff.

I live in a small town in Indiana. It is almost comical what Obama supporters will do!!! — At our town meeting, there were a several “residents” at the meeting that piled into two cars with ILLINOIS license plates. I noticed this because one member of the group actually confronted me to ask us why I didn’t like President Obama. He admitted he was from Chicago, professing that in Chicago they have more “control over corruption” than we have here in Indiana! Tooo funny!!!!

He was lucky it was just a finger.

According to one account, a man was wading through the counter-protest to get to the MoveOn side, when the 65 year old confronted and hit him. In response, the man who was hit, identified by one witness as “pro-reform,” bit off the other man’s finger. Neither person was identified.
According to KTLA-TV, the elderly man took his detached finger to a local hospital for medical attention.
1. the elderly (young enough to start a fight) punched first.
2. the government plan (medicare) worked very well for the opponent of reform.

One of those Right Wing Nuts hits me, they are going to lose more then a pinky. The man that took the pinky was older PLUS he was hit first. He will not be arrested for defending himself. Righties need to find something else to whine about and be very careful just who they try to push around.

i am sorry for the man but he should not had been in the person face everybody has the right to speech but stay out of people face it is time for the people who want health care reform to stand up and be heard

This gives a whole new meaning to the expression: “giving someone the finger.”

People need to understand, when capitalist would not give fair wages, people became union and violent. I see the same is going to happen here.

Just imagine how convenient it will be for thugs and aggressors to get care for their battle wounds when we have healthcare paid for by the taxpayers. I can see it now, lines will form after gang battles and the fight for services will just add to the drama. Also, can anyone imagine how the risk taking in this country will increase now that papa govn’t will cover all the costs of screwing up and hurting yourself. I think I’ll take up sky diving. Reminds me of the increase in ‘accidents’ when CA passed mandatory auto insurance. I wish the govn’t would require everyone to have to purchase services in my industry. This socialism thing is happing so unbelievably fast it’s starting to make my head spin.

The interview spent all of 10 seconds on the story and the rest of the time on how incredible the health care plan will be. Why won’t the media report the facts. There is no plan and we are being asked to support legislation that is not even finished. 1000+ pages and it appears only to be a outline. Try to implement that w/o a whole new agency and thousands of new workers that will handle your issues with efficiency and grace.

I went to my vigal in there was no incidents at all. Not one crazy was there yesterday it is was stage my Moveon.

No one thinks that health care reform won’t cost anything. We just think it will be cheaper and more balanced than as it stands now. And that the health insurance industry will be what it’s supposed to be. A not for profit organization.And if we get cancer, perhaps we can get chemo and possibly survive and still keep our health insurance. And not bankrupt our family in the process.

This is what happens when you introduce Saul Alinsky thug tactics into a nation already bedeviled by Karl Rove’s electoral cynicism. OUR nation needs OUR President to stop forcing a radical agenda on a nation already suffering from the “imbalance and frustration” (Ike quote) of eight years of Bush. We are insulting the very foundation of this country from top to bottom. This President needs to grow up and restore balance and moderation to this country, not force upon it the most radical elements of the old 1960s and 1970s playbook on Social Engineering.
I’ve always been proud to be an American, but we may be rapidly destroying it and our President is leading in our destruction. May God have mercy on this nation and its disgraceful, decadant, greedy, and excessive behavior.

Just one comment…WHY DOES EVERYONE THINK MEDICARE INSURANCE IS FREE? Medicare B Premiums are deducted from Social Security Checks, plus Seniors who have worked hard and paid into the system for all these years deserve their Medicare. Not only that there is a deductible that must be paid every year as well, then co payments on some illnesses etc.
(and on another note if someone gets in your face and doesnt back off then if they happen to get punched in the face it appears to me they deserved it, (not that it was right but it WAS deserved) whereas FELONY Mayhem was NOT

It’s unfortunate that this happened and it is unfortunate that those who have an opinion on Move On and Pres. Obama must have the best permanent health care in the world. If you can’t see that this Healthcare reform is Health Insurance reform and for over forty years it has been rejected by those who support the Insurance co. and the American public be damned, then there is nothing that anyone could say to you that you would hear. Your loyalty lies with the Party..and you’re so caught up that you are not even loyal to your own needs.

I think Bill Maher has this issue summed up. As he says, America has one party which is sponsored by corporate america and which represents the interests of large pharmaceutical and insurance companies, the democrats, and it has another party representing a few isolated crazy people with radical ideas, the conservatives.

older americans especially, have bought into the rugged individualist viewpoint (focus on “me and mine”) of corporate interests (against reform) which is interesting, considering those over 65 already have “socialized” medicine; it’s called medicare. even though only the top 5% would be taxed, Neo-Cons have the masses convinced that taking care of people takes away freedom. it’s warped. obama has been routinely called a racist by glenn beck (“obama has a deep seeded hatred of white people”) and sean hannity. US media covers conservatives yelling at town hall meetings, yet NO mention has been made by ANY major news networks about the 350 candlelight vigils held across the country yesterday supporting reform.

I really expected the summer to be more violent. This is only a sample of what the next eight years are going to look like… conservative wanna-be’s shooting cops because the gov is coming to take their guns away, people on medicare against gov run heatlhcare, conservatives will turn againt the war (I would welcome them on that one), no matter how quick the economy recovers they will come up with something or give credit to something else, and more violence, and more crazy shooters like the one at the D.C. musseum, and these sore losers are not going away.

Miguel … what are you talking about? The holocaust museum shooter was not a conservative – he was an avowed socialist who also had some conservative commentators as his intended targets. If anything, he was a liberal looney, not a right-wing one.
What “conservative wannabes” have shot cops “because the government was coming to take their guns”? I live in a state where gun rights were recently EXPANDED not reduced. And that’s the trend these days as statistics tend to show that expanded gun rights results in LOWER crime rates.
Most of the outrage over this health care reform bill isn’t over government run health care (although public option is one aspect) most people are concerned with the MANDATES proposed in both the House and Senate Finance proposals.
Lastly, how does this finger biting incident have anything to do with conservatives? All we know is that the victim was opposed to reform and his finger was bitten off allegedly by someone in favor of reform.

The MoveON guy crossed the street to confront the other protesters. An argument ensued, of course.
BTW, to the guy who says he can’t afford insurance…the IRS will tell you what you can afford and fine you accordingly if you don’t buy an acceptable insurance plan. That rule is in the present house plan. Coverage is not free in this bill. Your present choice of not paying for insurance will be taken away.

Another account from a witness stated that the Move On.org protester singled out and got in the face of the old man, yelling something like ‘why don’t you want the reform’, then calling him an idiot when he received his answer and pulled him forward, at this point the scuffle occurred….
I went to a TH meeting in NJ, nothing like this happened, but I guess things lean to one side out in CA, this is the way to do it huh?

Even if its true that the 65year old punched someone, he still doesn’t deserve to get his finger bitten off. Violence met with Violence does little good.
We live in America and are physically fighting each other over a political / verbal disagreement. Is that why we keep going to war with other countries? B/c we’ve lost our way to peace and civil diplomacy?

Eventually, this current mess will escalate to a near civil war. The military will have to take over. I wonder what side they will come down on? Maybe some people should do a little research on the political philosophy of the vast majority of the military and police around the country. It could get ugly for one side of the equation.

The 65-year-old man was on TV news. He did not get to have his finger re-attached because the doctors told him that the germs from a human bite makes it an almost zero success. He said if the biter is caught, he chooses not to sue

The Pres. should just get what he can and when the health care system in this country crashes (and it will-if not reformed) rightly blame it on the repubs and say “hey, we tried..twice”. I especially find the argument humorous when a right wing talk show-er starts critiqueing other countries health care systems as if those countries’ citizens are pining for our system. Obviously the finger was bitten off when he had hold of the other persons face and the finger was in the mouth. Otherwise a damaging hand hold would be required or order to achieve the same affect. Often happens in sports like rugby, where one player shoves their hand to forcefully into the other players face, and a loose finger is pushed into the mouth, in the heat of the moment the victim of the face grab bites down and, digit gone.

When politics turn violent, it’s time to try something else. Polarization of the political parties solidified during the past few years. And the ugliness has spread to the American people thanks to the toxic rhetoric, some of it parroted by idiots in these blogs. Time for term limits for Congress. Fresh new blood might help. Get it together ABC! Your video attachment on this article reports that it was the Liberal Pro health care demonstrator that got his finger bitten off when in fact HE is the one who did the biting.
