House Reprimands Rep. Wilson

ABC News’ Rick Klein: The House of Representatives voted today to upbraid Rep. Joe Wilson over the outburst he directed at President Obama last week, in a racially charged debate over an extraordinary breach of congressional protocol. The brief resolution, approved 240-179 on a vote that broke down mostly on party lines, states that “the House of Representatives disapproves of the behavior” exhibited by Wilson. Wilson interrupted the president’s address to a Joint Session of Congress last Wednesday by shouting “you lie!” at the president. “This is about the rules of the House, and reprehensible conduct,” said House Minority Whip Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., who led colleagues in the Congressional Black Caucus to press for a formal vote condemning Wilson’s conduct. “Silence gives consent. We cannot be silent in this matter, because we do not consent with the conduct of Mr. Wilson.” Wilson, R-S.C., stood on the House floor while Democrats lined up to lambaste him, and Republicans took to the microphone to defend his honor. He nodded silently when House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said Wilson probably surprised himself with his own conduct last week. Wilson led off the debate on the resolution – but did not repeat the apology he offered privately to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel last week. “This action today will have done nothing for the taxpayers,” Wilson said. “It is time for us to move forward.” Republicans sharply denied that race was a factor in Wilson’s outburst, or in their defense of their colleague. They blasted Democrats for making partisan hay out of the matter. “Last Wednesday was not a good day in the House. But today is worse,” said House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence, R-Ind. But the sniping isn’t likely to end with the vote. Both Wilson and his political opponents have used the outburst as part of fundraising appeals over the past week. Democrat Rob Miller, who ran against Wilson last year and is planning another challenge in 2010, has raised about $1.5 million in the last six days, according to party officials, while Wilson himself has brought in nearly $2 million. In a video posted today to Wilson’s campaign Website, Wilson’s wife even says she couldn’t believe it was her husband who yelled at the president – but predicts that “he’ll be fine.” “Joe called me … after the speech on Wednesday night and I said, ‘Joe, who’s the nut that hollered out ‘you lie’ and ‘you liar.’  And he goes, ‘it was me,’ ” she says. “I couldn’t believe that Joe would say that.  He is very passionate. Fighting the good fight.”

The Republicans should just stand up and walk out. Don’t even waste time. Walk out on the congress of nothing.

Hey House of Reps – I’m sure you could find something a LOT more important to debate/discuss/vote on that might actually be a BENEFIT to our constitutional republic! It’s so pathetic you all are wasting time on this kind of thing rather than what is TRULY IMPORTANT to our nation. Do the job WE THE PEOPLE elected you to do or expect to join the unemployed next election. Nuf said.

It just goes to show that most members of the House are more committed to lying to the American people than to health care….

wilson is a very foolish man and should be reprimanded in the most serious way. He was disrespectful of the President, and wrong. What an ignorant and uninformed fool! The coverage for illegals is specifically banned in the health care proposal.

This had to be done, I don’t understand why the Republicans want to give Joe Wilson an pass and allow for this kind of behavior. The guy took a dump on the floor where they work, this cannot be allowed and cannot set a presidence.

Are they still playing around with last week’s news:
Joe Wilson apologized, the President accepted, end of
the story. I can see some of the “higher ups “of the
president wanting a public flogging in the market
place. This is the 21st century, not the Middle Ages:
if you support the Middle Ages, go to the Middle East.
Mr. President, show some muscle and say you are satis
fied with the apology and so should everybody else.
Enough is enough, this news is starting to be boring.

You folks are oblivious to the truth. You believe everything Obama and his minions tell you. Grow some brains and research these issues for yourselves. You’ll see that Obama WAS lying, or at least omitting pertinent truths.

Posted by: no | September 15, 2009, 6:03 pm 6:03 pm

Well, guess I found out where the conservatives hang out in the afternoon.
Bottom line: there are rules of decorum that are designed to be followed specifically to ensure the office of the presidency is afforded respect.
Instead, this one little man from a infamous state decided to get himself noticed by making a personal and pointed slur.
Not ‘That’s a lie’ but ‘YOU lie.’
Beyond the pale. He should have been censored. If fate is fair, he should be ‘fired.’ And all you folks who endorse this sordid and disrepectful action should be taken to the woodshed by you moms and taught some manners.

Mo,
Please review the two session.
There may have been boos. THere may have been hisses. There may have been jeers.
What there wasn’t was a single man who leaned forward, shoved his finger at the president, and in a moment of silent verbally assaulted him and cast aspersion on his character. ‘You lie’ in NOT the same as ‘Boo!’

Does the President get a free pass when he comes in front of the congress and accuses the opposition of lies – even when there was substantial truth to the opposition statement. Seems like we have Kwami Kilpatrick light.

==========================================
You know, sometimes I thought about confronting George Bush and telling him he was a complete moron also….but I would never have done so even if I had the opportunity. It is called self-control and a sense of respect for the office and the chamber which Joe Wilson lacked at that moment. It should be condemned….It is equivalent in manners to what Kanye West did the other night…Anyone who justifies the actions in any way condones it….As for the vote, good….now we have on record where congressman stand on disrespectful, rude behavior…

Of course let’s not remember the Democrats booing George Bush when he addressed Congress. Or Dems calling Bush a liar, etc.
I voted for change, I see none.
At least we finally got an African-American in the White House.
Next, let’s try an independent woman.
No one can do worse than the government we have had for so long.
Pelosi-where is your commitment to change. “You LIE”
At least you know Obama actually cares about people, he is just a little naive.
Repubs should cut him some slack, but
always stand up for your principles.
Both parties are spineless, crooked, elitists that make me want to puke.

I don’t see why Republicans would be upset by this. People are supposed to behave themselves. If they can’t wait 30 minutes and *then* call the President a liar, then they shouldn’t be allowed to be present.
I realize that shouting down during town hall meetings was encouraged, at the next President address, I would expect a cacophony of everyone trying to shout down everyone else. Can’t we have house rules of order.

He owed ME an apology. And since I wasn’t in the chamber, he owed my representative one as my substitute.
His actions offended me as an American. He insulted the nation’s president.
He owes ALL of us an apology for coarsening the political debate even more than the conservatives already have.

The Republican representatives are not only disrespectful to the Congress floor, but also to the President of the United States that was ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE! There has NEVER been such out bursts in Congress aimed at the President and I hope to never see it again.
Mr. Wilson deserves to be excused from his position in the Congress. If republicans can get there ‘maturity’ in order, then the Democrats wouldn’t have so many issues and problems, but from what we (AMERICA) saw, it seems to me that it was not only embarrassing to Congress and the President, but also for America. This is not 2nd grade people. You were elected to do a job and respect the office you were elected in…so DO IT!

There is a time and place for most things on this planet. Rep Wilson should have known what was in the speech — advance copies were available — and he should have made note of where he disagreed and taken action when appropriate. Instead, he sent a personal insult hurtling toward the president during a formal speech in the chamber in the Capitol building — neither the time nor place to do so.
He deserved this reprimand.

There are “millions” of other Americans out their that DO support Obama and DO NOT believe he has lied about ANYTHING. America was created and fought for over several generations and wars to give it the ability to work on it’s solutions and a peaceful and respectful manner WITHOUT causing harm to others or attempting to destroy the other side in the pursuit of what is best for ALL Americans. Not just you. If you believe the Wilson was correct and condone what he has done and in your support of his actions are even condoning future behavior such as this than all you are doing is going against the principles that millions of Americans have fought and died for so we could work out our issues Peaceably AND respectfully. Be careful what you condone as ALL of this can very easily backfire on you and I would not be surprised in the least bit about how LOUDLY YOU WOULD BE SCREAMING BLOODY MURDER. This seems to be the way of those with such a poor understanding of civility and respect despite our differences. It seems that no one can argue with individuals like yourselves, as you live in a politically parallel world where everyone you know believes the same as you do. You don’t like established facts, so you come armed with their own. Your small extremist minority is annoying, bizarre, incoherent, divisive, intolerant, small-minded, misinformed, ill informed and misinformed, by an well funded extremist propaganda machine that does not have your benefit at heart but their own. You are brainwashed fools to believe anything and everything that these extremist right wing propagandists feed into your easily brain-washed lazy minds. 2smart4u | Sep 15, 2009 6:03:00 PM: Obama has said enough as he was not the one calling Wilson a liar. Wilson does need to appologize to both houses as he broke long standing rules of decorum that have never been allowed on the floors of our government before let alone against the ANY president in standing while speaking on that floor. Wilson needs to understand that this will not be condoned and he has NO EXCUSE for doing so. I would dare say that their would have possibly be even greater screams if this had been done if the roles had been reversed. Arrests made etc. And not smart at all is your MADE UP STORY to create even FURTHER HATE, to throw GAS ON THE FIRE by stating that Obama wants to publicly flog this man is EXTREMELY WRONG on your part. This is just another extreme example how SIMPLE minds need to make up stories to make things worse than they are. Are you SO HATEFUL that you think it necessary to make up such a story. According an article by Holly Bailey on Newsweek.com posted on September 10, 2009, Joe Wilson voted 11 times against health care for Veterans. Although he is perfectly willing to deny medical and psychological care to Iraqi and Afghan war veterans, Joe Wilson finds nothing wrong with getting his own health care through TRICARE.
That’s a really reprehensivle way to treat our troops.

White American have lost their minds. They can’t stand the fact that a black man is running this country. Just get over it
Posted by: Dot
Just like the little boy who cried “wolf” too many times, the Democrats are shooting themselves in the foot every time they cry “racism” when someone simply does not agree with or believe the president. All these false cries of racism are actually taking attention away from REAL cases of racism and insensitivity in America. It’s doing real harm to real victims of hate crimes in this country. Do democrats care? No, they just like to rally against the battle cry of racism because it’s convenient.
People who do not like the president’s policy and don’t agree with everything he says are not racist. They simply disagree with him, much the way democrats disagreed with and called Bush a liar for years.

Chris,
Nothing happens now. It’s over. The House essentially issued a verbal spanking. That’s it. The resolution was just symbolic — the House Democrats flexed their muscle, issued their disapproval and that’s it.
Now, maybe we can focus on why Wilson thought that particular part of Obama’s speech was not truthful.

I realize the fashion today is to bash and berate for the sound bite… that said -
I miss my childhood. Please… thank you… no twittering… we listened with manners, at least most of the time. Definitely when the President was speaking.
What kind of example are we setting for our children when ‘adults’ misbehave with such disrespect for an office we want our children to aspire to?
I hope this is the ‘bottom’ of our poor behavior and a turning point — respect for country and politics (service) and we will see improvement in our manners, and integrity from our politicians.
Thank you.

Well, Congress just succeded in getting more donations into Joe Wilsons campaign fund. They just could not leave well enough alone. I agree it was wrong and disrespectful, but the man aploigized and the President accepted it. Now lets move on, this country is falling apart and Congress has time for this. What a shame. Just goes to show they are more interested in power than what is good for the country.

The infant mortality rate of South Carolina is three times higher than the infant mortality rate of Sweden or France. But apparently Joe Wilson would sooner watch babies die that “tread down the road to socialism.” Apparently, too, Joe Wilson’s principles, namely his belief in capitalism, trumps any concern for human life. But if you look up data on Center for Responsive Politics you will discover that principles aren’t quite the reason for Joe Wilson’s outburst.
Among the industries that contributed to Wilson’s political campaigns, Health professionals took 1st place. Joe Wilson also gets hefty campaign contributions from lobbyists, for-profit hospitals and nursing homes, pharmaceuticals/health products, insurance companies, and securities and investments. If I conduct a sector analysis, the for-profit health sector is Wilson’s biggest contributor. Individual corporations which contribute heavily to Wilson’s political campaigns include American Hospital Association and Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
So it’s little wonder that Wilson hates Obama because Obama poses a serious threat to Wilson’s source of campaign revenue. It’s too bad that babies cannot make political campaign contributions.
With these facts in mind, Joe Wilson really needs apologize to the American people, including the babies in his own native state of South Carolina, who die needlessly because of inadequate medical care. He needs to tell people who buy their insurance from Blue Cross/Blue Shield, that they are giving him a political campaign contribution every they pay their premiums, and that his cut in the deal is far more important than their health care.
And considering the poverty rate of South Carolina, Joe Wilson should take all those campaign contributions he is receiving and give it to the poor. That’s what Jesus would do. But not Joe Wilson. Like the rest of the GOP, who are profiteering over other people’s illnesses, Joe Wilson is a truly reprehensible excuse for a human being.

Joe: Republicans should walk out? Yes, that would be MOST Republican, wouldn’t it?
“If I can’t play by MY RULES, I am just going to take my ball and go home! Not my ball? Well, I’m STILL going to take it and go home!”
Actually, though, it WOULD solve a great many problems: just think of all the legislation that could be sped through Congress without Republicans there to drag their feet on every issue!
I’ll second that motion!

Let me get this straight…the house reprimands Wilson for saying the president lies but there isn’t a public reprimand for those who have had affairs, took bribes, haven’t paid income tax, lied to constituents — the list goes on and on. While I don’t think what Wilson did was appropriate, he has apologized and the president has accepted his apology. Nothing like the pot calling the kettle black!

Joe Wilson is a disgrace to all Americans. He should be made to formally apologize to ALL Americans for his conduct. I am a Republican and may not agree with everything Obama does. But what Wilson did was against the law and he should be penalized.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., opposed punishing Wilson until Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) and other Democratic leaders persuaded her to change her mind.
Another thing i read was that Congressman Hank Johnson of Ga, a black dem, said Tuesday, “that people will be putting on white hoods and white uniforms again and riding through the countryside” if emerging racist attitudes, which he says were subtly supported by Wilson, are not rebuked. He said Wilson must be disciplined as an example.
“We’re not the British parliament for a reason,” said Kristie Greco, spokeswoman for House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, D-S.C.,.”Ignoring the issue sets a precedent for bad behavior.”
Greco described the resolution as “direct” and “non-partisan.”
“It goes directly to conduct on the House floor,” Greco said.

What Wilson did was wrong. He gave a “non-apology” to the President. However, the President was not the only person offended. He offended the people in the hall that night, and the nation as a whole. For the previous 8 years, members of the House have had to sit and choke down the lies and bits of misinformation fed to them by the previous President. While those lies resulted in death, destruction and world-wide mayhem… no one dared act with such disrespect. There are channels to address your disagreements. This was not the time, nor the place. He should be reprimanded.

I believe that Joe Wilson’s outburst was very unprofessional and I think that he let his personal opinion get in the way of his professionalism. Health care is a very important issue at this time and those of us who pay astronomical amounts to have it know that we can benefit from the health care reform. I wish that the people who are against it could walk in the shoes of those who have illnesses and would like to have health care but having shelter, food and clothing out way having healthcare because it doesn’t fit into the budget. Then I believe their outlook on healthcare reform would be somewhat different.

In the eight years of the Bush Administration when we were told lie upon lie, about WMD, about “secret prisons”, about administrative directives to torture, we never once saw a Democrat Representative stand up and call President Bush a liar to his face. Personally, I yelled “liar” at the TV almost every time he spoke, but I surely would not have been proud of my Representative if he had done the same. There should be respect for the office of the Presidency, and the Republicans appear not to understand that at all. Mr. Wilson’s behavior was absolutely despicable.

Joe Wilson is another loud-mouthed Republican who has no impulse control and no sense of proper behavior befitting a congressman. His behavior not only was outrageous; what he said was a lie in itself. The proposed legislation was not designed for illegal aliens nor would they be covered anymore than they are today. That is to say, only emergency situations cover people from other countries wherein they are stabilized. I don’t think the American people want to watch someone die of blood loss just because they are an alien resident or visitor. Common ethical standards require that we give them emergency medical care.

Yes, Joe’s outburst was wrong. He said as much and he did apologize to the person he offended. His emotions got the best of him, it happens. Let’s move on.
And as far as respect goes. When the president and his staff deliberately chose to NOT acknowledge the hundreds of thousands of people standing in front of the capitol on Saturday, that was blatant disrepect to the American People.
That venue would have been the perfect opportunity for him to address the people who are against his health plan and try to convince THEM that it is a good thing. But he chose to go away and surround himself with people who will give him praise and adulation, no naysayers. Because that was safe and he needs to have constant affirmation. Respect is earned.

Logan: There is a huge difference between respecting the office of the Presidency, and respecting the man who is President. I freely admit that I had no respect for Bush in 2000 and less than no respect for him in 2008. He was a horrible joke on America. I did not, however, believe that MY Representative in Congress should stand up and scream “liar” during one of his speeches (even though I believed he was one). One simply respects the office of the Presidency, and the fact the President was elected by the majority (even if one doubts the sanity of the majority). Personally, I believe Obama is not a liar. I believe Bush was a liar, but one does not scream that in public. I expect some degree of civility from my Representative, so should South Carolina.

As Republicans, we need to assess this issues, and all issues quite frankly within a historical context. Yes its easy for many folks to think our anger towards Barrack is sourced from racism. Why?
1. Are we not the party that did everything under the sun to block civil rights. We act like the 60′s & 70′s didn’t happen. Take a note from McCain. “I was wrong”, when asked why he did not support MLK jr. An admission of mistakes goes a long way with people. Quick calling blacks reverse racists when we Republicans have not come to grips w/ our racists pass.
2. No one has ever called the President a liar. Never. Agian with our history are we surprised when blacks get antsy
3. Where was all our anger when Bush was expanding gov’t, spending excessive, and levying bailouts. We look very hypocritical. Again with our history is it a stretch for people to questions our motives.

For those crabbing about Wilson’s so-called lack of decorum, get some perspective on history for heaven’s sake. Read about about the “decorum” in the congress in the early years of the US. I for one, would like to see someone with onions like Wilson a little more often. Think about how much time is wasted in bogus decorum “the distinguished gentleman from” so and so, or “my distinguished colleague”. The time spent on meaningless hand-slapping today is a waste of OUR tax dollars. Dems for eight years jeered Bush in the same chamber. Given the level of lying that goes on in the executive and legislative branches, I for one find it refreshing that someone is willing to call untruth for what it is.

…and where’s the stories about ACORN at???

Posted by: Think_About_It | September 15, 2009, 9:20 pm 9:20 pm

A lot of campaign donations have been flying into Wilson’s coffers. I guess a lot of folks think like he does, but don’t want to say anything…nobody wants to be a ‘racist’ dontcha know.

Posted by: Bill | September 15, 2009, 9:21 pm 9:21 pm

If Mr. Wilson have said this after Obama’s speach, you would not have heard about it from the media. This was his only way to get his voice out to America. Good Move Mr. Wilson. We think alike.

THEY NEED TO BE WORKING ON THE DEBT THEY HAVE PUT US IN. Wilson picked an inappropriate time for his outburst; however, it is extremely difficult to hold one’s tongue when you know the person speaking is lying. Obama and his liberal cronies based the entire 2008 campaign on lies. Wilson did apologize and Obama accepted. This should be the end of the story. Congress needs to move on, quit acting like children, and get to work!!! We just don’t need another distraction!! How about all the mean-spirited things that libs have said about G W Bush and ordinary citizens??? They had better clean up their own act!! That goes for Obama too!!! When Obama won, we all lost. We need to replace the liberals in Congress.

ACORN???? You mean the corrupt “community organizing” group that Obama meets at the table to help determine his policies? That ACORN?????

Posted by: mo | September 15, 2009, 9:28 pm 9:28 pm

Wilson was right, he just took the wrong opportunity to say so.

Posted by: Bill | September 15, 2009, 9:34 pm 9:34 pm

Even the Iraqi citizens knew that Bush was a big joke, that’s why that Iraqi citizen threw not just one shoe but two shoes at Bush. Now that is real disrespect.

Posted by: johnnyle | September 15, 2009, 9:37 pm 9:37 pm

You are stupid is you think Joe Wilson does not have respect for the office of President. Get real; However, you cannot give anyone respect until they earn it.

I am ashamed of the people of the United states. I am fifty seven years of age. I cant ever remember anyone disrespecting the President of the united state the way Obama was disrespected. this is about race and white so called conservaties try to hide the fact that they are reciest and it is showing is great multitudes. White men have always feared black men for what ever reason and has always tried to destroy the black man in America. The world is watching how Presiden Obama is being treatd, called names and not being accepted as the president of the U.S.A. What are white folk going to do when China send their Army over her to collect the money that we old them from the national debt. Are they still going be raciest when this great empire continue to fall because of their hidden racism? conservative White American is destroying this country. As a kid I remember when Crueshef stated; I can take concour America from the inside with out firing a single bullet. This Great Country is being concoured and not by forign terroist but by other countries working hard producing wealth while people in this country continue to fighet among them selfs. Regardless of what race, color or gender, unless the hatered and selfishness is put aside this country will not last another three hundred years. I project it will become a colony again.

WOW…..I feel like pulling out my hair at the complete and utter worthlessness of the reprimanding of Joe Wilson. These “great” politicians talk about how their going to “help” our country and then they go and waste our tax dollars on a completely irrelevant and dumb resolution. I would rather the congress just take a whole month off and fly in chartered jets (on our dime of course!) to Las Vegas where they gamble with tax payer money and indulge themselves in sin because that would be more productive than this “formal disapproval of behavior” they just passed. We should be completely ashamed that we elected these imbeciles into office. I think from now on, none of these people should ever be allowed to hold any public office, ever. After they end their terms they should also receive regular shock therapy because that’s the only thing that would allow them to be aware of reality that they now seem to be ignorant of. It’s bad enough that the house did this, but the fact that abc news presented this like the house was being productive was even worse. We should all be ashamed that our country has reached this level of stupidity.

This whole thing has worked against the Democrats’ chance of forcing the bill down everyone’s throats. It’s drawing attention to what is actually in this bill. Now everyone is talking about House decorum, not health care.
Can we retroactively censure Harry Reid for calling Bush a liar? How about Obama for helping disrupt The State. of the Union address in 2005?
Nancy Pelosi misled the House as to what is proper by her incessant jumping up, clapping and cheering

Posted by: Elle | September 15, 2009, 10:05 pm 10:05 pm

“And considering the poverty rate of South Carolina, Joe Wilson should take all those campaign contributions he is receiving and give it to the poor.”
Why don’t millionaire Democrats do that? Like Pelosi, Reid, Kerry, etc.? They care about the little guy, right? Oh that’s right. They’d rather dole out OUR money, not theirs. It’s the limousine liberal way.

Mo Said: “you should have told that to the dems when they jeered at Bush during his speech to CONgress.” ……………… LOL …….. Mo, “jeering” or “booing” at a stated policy is normal in the congress and has happened many, many times before. It’s a sign of
“d-i-s-a-p-p-r-o-v-a-l” of a policy. On the other hand, saying “YOU” LIE, is a direct “a-c-c-u-s-a-t-i-o-n” angainst a person. ……. I spelled each out for you because with your clear lack of any ability to do an analysis, I wouldn’t expect you to understand the difference.

No question Joe Wilson loves America more than Obama. He’s one of the few Reps with the guts to tell the truth. The hilarious thing is this episode has made him more popular than ever and has very likely assured his re-election. LOL!

LOL ……… Republicans… they always “set the standard” for being idiots.

I see most people on the board are against the Dems lame political posturing.

The Republican party represent the wealthy in this country and it’s beneficial to them to maintain the status quo. The wealthy people in this country probably own most of the insurance companies that are ripping of the middle class so of course they dont want a government option. A government option will provide unwanted competition for them and limit their outrageous profits. Americans that apparently dont have the ability to think for themselves are being blindly led by the Republican party. They cant see the benefit to having a public option which translate to affordable health insurance for all

I don’t care if Joe Wilson apologizes to other politicians, but he certainly needs to apologize to the nation’s children and young adults. It is very upsetting that he showed disrespect for the office of the president. How dare he ‘teach’ youth that it is OK to shout when someone else is speaking. I see no lie, only a nasty, disrespectful man.
Shame on you Mr. Wilson. I hope your mother did not hear you.

Congress has protocal and the house has their own set of rules for members. Personally, I think the “outburst” was not spontaneous but planned. I think he should have to resign. But this type of behavior has made him into a hero to the sheep that hide in “Fox clothing”. It appears prejudice is alive and well, even in congress.

Posted by: Olivia | September 16, 2009, 7:34 am 7:34 am

What a HUGE waste of time; a lot of spinning wheels on taxpayers dime; somewhere somehow this county HAS got to get ahold of this trainwreck of a Gov.; Wilson came out of this as a hero and the House looks foolish…

Posted by: CHEL | September 16, 2009, 7:42 am 7:42 am

Stick to your guns Wilson. There isn’t a democrat in this country that rates high enough to wipe the sweat from your big balls. And you called it truthfully, Obama is a LAIR. If not, why did Obama come out the day after you took him to the carpet, with his statement “barring illegals from praticipating in the healthcare reform program”? I suppose it was just a coincidence!

I agree with the house reprimand. doing nothing is equal to permission, and we can not allow this kind of chaos and distraction when the President is addressing congress. This was not the forum for such an outburst.

Posted by: confidential416 | September 16, 2009, 8:48 am 8:48 am

Who cares or will remember for very long that there was a resolution. Waste of time and effort

Posted by: Dick | September 16, 2009, 9:41 am 9:41 am

Even if one does not agree with the President, the outburst was so disrespectful, so the rebuke was a good decision.

Posted by: Amy | September 16, 2009, 2:08 pm 2:08 pm

Senator Wilson’s outburst was inappropriate, and displayed a singular lack of respect for the office of the Presidency. I applaud the House for reprimanding what was offensive behavior on the Senator’s part. If he had shouted out in class in school he would have been given detention. This wasn’t class it was Congress. It was on national television. He’s a grown up and he should exercise better control. Send him to the chill out corner and while we’re at it, let’s give him a Dunce cap to wear.

The notion of “respect for the office of the president” has been used like a blunt instrument ever since Teddy Roosevelt set about making himself a demigod.
The president has very few enumerated duties. Aside from welcoming heads of state, and vetoing legislation he feels is unconstitutional, he is merely the commander in chief of the armed forces.
He rates nor more respect than the gardener or the maid, or the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
And don’t play the race card, I hate the man because, no matter what words come out of his mouth…his actions brand him a filthy statist with a marxist attitude.
Besides that, call me racist if it makes you feel ‘empowered’ but quite frankly, I just don’t care anymore. I’m all out of “white guilt,” and you can pound sand.

” but ‘YOU lie.’”
“Beyond the pale.”
Then censor Pelosi for falsely calling the CIA liars.
There are dozens of examples of Democrats disrespecting everyone they oppose.
