In Baghdad, Biden Affirms U.S. Commitment to Troop Withdrawal Deadlines
ABC News’ Karen Travers reports: Vice President Joe Biden met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki today in Baghdad and the two discussed the agreement regarding the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. Biden reiterated the previously agreed-to deadlines for withdrawal. “We will also move ahead on other aspects of our security agreement by removing all US combat brigades from Iraq by the end of August 2010 and all remaining US troops by the end of 2011,” Biden said. Maliki said the steps taken so far under the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) were going on “with a high credibility and taking their normal course.” Neither Biden nor Maliki took questions from reporters. Maliki spoke at length about the investment conference that will take place in Washington, D.C. in October for foreign investors looking for business opportunities in Iraq. The Iraqi prime minister said he and Biden spoke of the need for the conference to be a success in order to provide investment opportunities and advance legislative reforms needed for investment. “We're expanding our economic partnerships, and we very much look forward to the Iraqi Business and Investment Conference that was also referenced that is going to be held in Washington next month and which we believe will help bring together American and Iraqi businesses for additional economic activity in Iraq,” Biden said. There was a lighthearted moment at the start of the vice president’s otherwise serious remarks. Biden started speaking and seemed to be on a roll when Maliki leaned in to remind him that he needed to stop in order to let the Arabic translator do her work. “I’m very tired,” Biden said to laughter. The vice president then laughed himself and patted Maliki on the back as the translator began to speak. After she finished relaying his opening statement, Biden said, “My compliments to the interpreter.” -Karen Travers

If they go from one country to another… where is the “withdrawal” nonsense coming from??? Anyone? Bueller… Bueller… Bueller???
Want to be “radical”!?! Put them on the damn border so the “next 911″ doesn’t happen. Mexico would be nice, even Canada too! Nah, preventing the next attack means that we’d have to leave all those military bases overseas and “protecting” Japan, Germany, et al…”
Better we waste manpower and resources and leave ourselves fully exposed! After all it worked on 911, right! Right???

That must be why we’re escalating, right?

Obama has now kept us safe 5 days longer than Bush did.

—Obama administration officials are on their way to Poland and the Czech Republic to deliver very bad news. The administration intends to cancel completely the missile defense sites that had been promised to these governments by the previous administration. This represents a complete capitulation to Russia’s Vladimir Putin, who had demanded that the proposed deployments be halted as a price for improved relations. Ironically, the Obama administration, which is appeasing Russia in the hopes that Moscow will help put pressure on Iran, has made this mammoth concession just a few days after Moscow declared that it had no intention of supporting sanctions against Iran.
The consequences of this action in Eastern Europe, especially in Ukraine and in other countries that feel vulnerable to Russian power, will be disastrous. It is a major American retreat in the face of Russian bullying. And we will get absolutely nothing for it.—

As a Senator Obama introduced legislation that would have required all US combat troops to be withdrawn by April 1, 2008. Wasn’t that great judgment on his part?
Why did he change his mind?

“Obama has now kept us safe 5 days longer than Bush did.”
And Bush kept the unemployment rate more than 2.5% lower than Obama has.

When the President promised the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq, I was overjoyed. Only now do I realize that was a political ruse aimed at getting more votes from an unsuspecting public.

BTW-Obama’s announcement comes just days after Russia declared that NO, there will not be any new sanctions against Iran to punish them for nuclear development.
So, we pretty much caved in to Vlad the Terrible, and get nothing for it.
