In Copenhagen, First Lady Michelle Obama Campaigns for Chicago’s 2016 Olympic Bid

ABC News’ Yunji de Nies reports: Copenhagen – From the moment her feet touched the ground here in Denmark, first lady Michelle Obama was in campaign mode, lending her clout to Chicago's bid for the 2016 Olympic Summer Games. The first lady is here to try and sway members of the International Olympic Committee before Friday’s vote. Today she likened them to the caucus goers who gave her husband his first campaign win in 2008. "Barack and I have looked at this — this is like a campaign. Just like Iowa," she said. "The international community may not understand that, but Iowa is like a caucus, and you can't take any vote for granted. Nobody makes the decision until they're sitting there." ABC News – Opportunity to step up and take a step towards redeeming your journalistic credibility:
What are the ties that exist between Sr. WH Advisor (and former Daley staffer) Valerie Jarrett and the Chicago 2016 Olympics? Does Jarrett’s former property management firm hold property where Olympic Stadium would be built? Does Jarrett’s former firm stand to profit?
How about business relationship between Chicago bid committee member Michael Scott and a prospective Olympic Village developer?
Here’s an opportunity – Get on it!

Lighten up tjp612, Val just wants the City to pay to tear down her slumlord properties. You have a problem with that? That’s the Chicago way.

…and then we find out that Valerie Jarrett stands to win big if the games come to Chicago…she apparently has a number of buildings (slums) that will all of a sudden be needed by the city for the Olympics….somehow figures – Haliburton II.

tjp612….
you know it and I know it..
but do you really think Obama and his cronies want us to know it.
ABC will never dig into that story, they know it would hurt Obamas feelings.

Is there anything on Obama’s agenda that doesn’t result in some kind of payoff for either a crony or special interest?
Valerie Jarrett, Axelrod, Obama, Mayor Daley are all linked together in this Olympic bid.
And it’s not for the good of America.
And once again the MSM doesn’t have the guts to investigate.

I hate to see Chicago win this bid, not until they stop rubbing innocent cab drivers at 400 east superior. God will punish them all those city thieves.

..when old Mr. Bush League partied in China for about 4 days at the Olympics while the economy was heading to the toilet and there were 2 wars going on.. that was OK……. but hey, he was a compassionate conservative dedicated to ruining America… which was in the final analysis…… mission accomplished
Republican’s now root against America every chance they get… they think it’s patriotic to stand against healthcare reform, they enjoy seeing citizens suffer

In the meantime 43 American soldiers have died in Afghanistan since Gen. McCrystal asked for additional troops 47 days ago!
Let them eat cake.

“And I know that’s what all of you have been working for for these past few months. As much of a SACRIFICE as people say this is for me or Oprah or the President to come for these few days, so many of you in this room have been working for years to bring this bid home, and you have put together a phenomenal set of ideas that, no matter what the outcome is, we should be proud of as a city.”
- Michelle Obama opening remarks in Copenhagen 9/30/09
Michelle’s perception of “sacrifice” is a wee bit different than it is for most of us…

You’re assuming it was OK. There were plent of voices against Bush even going because of the human rights issue – from the conservative right. There was also plenty of opposition agaisnt the bailouts.
Get off your high horse and defend your side. Stop drawing moral equivalencies in the era of Hope and (No) Change.

You don’t understand, it’s okay for the Republicans to do this sort of thing, but when the Democrats actually attempt to get the Olympics to the United States, that is considered a wrong.

It would be good to see ABC report on the problems in Chicago and that the city is split in it’s support to hold the Olympics. When half of the city does not want to hold the Olympics… it looks like the White House is trying to meddle in local politics and force it’s will upon Chicago citizens.

funny hearing that from the ‘freedom fries’ crowd

—A poll released this month by the Chicago Tribune showed residents almost evenly split, with 47 percent in favor of the bid and 45 PERCENT AGAINST; that’s a drop from the 2-1 support the newspaper found in a February poll.—

In her speech in Copenhagen today, First Lady Michelle Obama said her trip to Denmark, along with the travel of her “dear friend” and “chit-chat buddy” Oprah Winfrey, as well as tomorrow’s visit by President Obama, is a “sacrifice” on behalf of the children of Chicago and the United States. “As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me or Oprah or the president to come for these few days,” the first lady told a crowd of people involved in the Chicago project, “so many of you in this room have been working for years to bring this bid home.”
OMG thank you Michelle! I know how terrible it must be traveling in your 757 with Oprah and being catered to hand and foot. My kids will be so relieved.

I find it distasteful that the President, First Lady, and Queen of Talk Shows are like some kind of traveling “gimme, gimme” team, especially when MO talks about how our fat kids need the Olympics to put visions into their heads to believe they can be the next Oprah or whatever.

Could be billions in taxpayer monies to fund this thing, including HUD funds Jarrett has already applied for. Maybe the athletes can apply for food stamps.
Could be millions to line the pockets of Obama cronies. Jarrett will save the cost of tearing down her Grove Parc (condemned) Apartments, big savings right there.
ABC could just connect a few dots and come up with the real story. Who will profit from this? Thank God for Glenn Beck, even though most Americans could have figured out who will benefit from the Olympics being in Chicago.

Michele Obama is a sterotypical Communist…Oh poor me…my sacrifices.
