Miss California Wows Conservatives
ABC News’ Teddy Davis and Brittany Crockett Report:
The Value Voters Summit heard from potential Republican presidential candidates and GOP congressional leaders on Friday morning.
But it was Carrie Prejean–former Miss California–who stole the show.
Prejean, whose book, “Still Standing,” is set to be released in November, got emotional while discussing how her belief in “opposite-sex marriage” cost her points in the Miss USA contest.
“Even though I didn’t win the crown that night,” said Prejean, while pausing to fight back tears, “I know that the Lord has so much of a bigger crown in heaven for me.”
The crowd ate it up.
Maggie Gallagher, the head of the conservative Institute for Marriage and Public Policy, introduced her to the packed room of hundreds of social conservatives as “our Miss America.”
Prior to choking up, Prejean explained how she knew her answer would jeopardize all the work she had put into preparing for the pageant.
She said, however, that she believes she was chosen for that moment.
“God chose me for that moment because he knew that not only would I be the one to stand up for him and for the truth, but because he knew I was strong enough to get through all the junk that I’ve been through,” said Prejean.
Referring to the outpouring of support that she has received from conservatives who see her as a sign that same-sex marriage is not inevitable, Prejean said: “I feel as if I’m Miss Universe.”

I find this hoopla odd. Considering she got fake breasts, lied on her application, got caught doing naked photos, and paraded on TV in the bathing suit. I had no problem with her answer, and support her right to have said it. I just find it odd she’s the big hero of Christian conservatives while they ignore the other stuff.

Ya know Jay and all of you apparant liberal democrats who seem to be looking down your snouts at the rest of the world, I never really hear any of YOU say anything of substance. You just seem to do nothing but send out insults. Reminds me of John Kerry during the 2004 elections. You’d ask him about his position on the facts and all he ever seemed to do was put down President Bush. Never any substance of his own. I’m actually an Independent but the one thing I’ve noticed is that most liberal democrats don’t really say anything that meaningful just a bunch of insults. I dare say that she’ becoming more mature at 22 than most of you will ever be except for that tired old bunch of insults you send out. I know I may sound insulting myself but if you guys could just saying something intelligent.

Leave her alone, she has a right to her opinion just as the gays do. She should have not been denied the crown because her belief was different than some gay judge. She is being used as the poster girl for the conservatives because of her beliefs and sacrifice. If you believe strongly (and are most likely gay) that she is a crusader for the right, so what? The conservatives do not bother you, we just let you be and sometimes I think it was better when gays were in the closet. Now they want to marry and have babies (go figure) and act like it is the natural thing to do or be. Being gay is an illness much like alcoholism that can not be treated, just monitored and allowed. I believe that you should be able to do what ever you desire as long as you do not hurt (this does not mean offend) others. This includes a straight girl as much as a gay anybody. … Oh my god she posed nude, I was born that way and would love to see her is this condition. My god she has fake breasts, well at least she isn’t trying to use them in a way that they were not designed and they work for me.

She didn’t lose the contest because of what she said or believed, remember? She got the crown. She lost in when she decided she wouldn’t do any of the press events or grocery store and mall openings *per her contract* and was fired, *per her contract*. By the time she was fired, her stance on gay marriage was old news. She was already opening her trap for stupid on other items.

No rep. let them be them other wise there would be no laws against them getting married. Also let the gays adopt! There are so many kids in need of loving homes and so many gays are willing to provide that for them where straight couples don’t even want to weigh that option they would rather go through all kids of procedures to help them get pregnant. So why not let a willing couple who will show the couple love no matter what (gay or straight) love is love no matter what way you look at it!

It is a free marketplace after all and we do allow freedom of expression. As I view it, she did not propose to seek out and punish; instead, she expressed a view and apparently paid a rather high price for it because of the intolerance of a homosexual judge, so who is the bigot here?

A person who justifies and encourages bigotry is neither displaying moral character nor expressing the wishes of God. She is bringing evil into the world and blaming it on her God. If history remembers her at all, it will be though the same prism as those who championed inequality towards other groups. Her perspective is cruel and unloving and brings no good into our world.

Richard Milhouse Nixon. His worker Donald S. put fake mailers in the mailboxes of his first congressional opponent. The fake mailers said that the opponent was a homosexual AND a communist.
Lest we forget, when Stevenson ran against “I like Ike’ Stevenson was called an egghead. Being smart is a crime.
When Palin ran for gov, she bragged that she got a D in macroeconomics.
Its traditional in the GOP to criticize the opponents as intellectual and eggheads and to invent false claims of communism against them.
The principled Republicans were long out pushed out, by anti-communist, flag waving, war mongering Christians. Ask Palin, she’s ready to go to war vs Putin over Georgia and The Ukraine.

They will get crowds wherever they go, and currently over 70% of registered GOP support Palin for president in 2012. She would win the nomination if the elections were held today.
note that the Mass GOP held up the appointment of the DEM US Senator until next week. Every week the GOP postpones the Health care plan is a victory for insurance companies, which will make another 40 billion next week off all of us, for taking in premiums and paying MDs and hospitals. Insurance companies perform NO useful function that any bookkeeping service could not do better for 5% of the take. Insurance companies keep 30%. They earn it by denying claims.

Alcholism can be treated you ignorant a-hole. Homosexuality isn’t a desease, it’s a preference. Why do some poople like coconut and other don’t. Is it a desease if they don’t like it? Why do some people like football and others don’t? Is my wife sick becuase she doesn’t like to watch? Should I put her on medication? Do you not see how ignorant you are? It must be a desease that prevents you from understanding or excepting others…I guess you should be put down because you are incurable. You are a waste of space. I hope one of your kids grows up to be “A gay”. Would serve you right…

Regardless of what you believe, not many are strong enough to intentionally expose themselves to the criticism and hatred and scorn that she endures gladly.
Congratulations and good luck. You are blessed.

God will surely have his way in the United States. He has started with Prejan. No matter what they call you dont listen to them . It is time to deliver our nation from the hands of the evil ones . It is higher time we stopped gay marriage, gay sex, etc and allow our country once again to be GOD’s own country
Isnt it so clear to us now that when we neglected God , he too neglected us and this caused the present situation we have found ourself. Return to righteousness America Return Return. God bless you Prejan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get real Prejean and please get over yourself ’cause it ain’t about you.

What’s really crazy is how a beauty contestant became such a lightening rod. She answered a question the same way our President did.
What happened next is just bizzare. The judge who queried the beauty should have never been a judge, and used that job to create publicity for himself.
Who really cared about Miss USA before all this hoopla? A very select few. The ratings had been dropping, so perhaps the whole thing was staged.
At any rate, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, no matter where they are. This nonsense about a pageant winner representing everyone rich! They aren’t making laws, or enforcing them. They get their picture taken at events. Woo Hoo.
No big deal.

Carpe Diem; Funny you should ask that question. I was asking the same question about the far left yesterday and today. You are so funny. One thing that I personally have said about this situation was that she wasn’t fired because of her beliefs on marriage but because of her behavior after the pageant so I can do this. Apparently you still can’t. So there are still no comments of substance made by the left.

She was fired for not living up to her contractual agreements. There is no valid lawsuit against the pageant claiming otherwise. Her lying on her application and continued lies hardly makes her a good “Christian” spokesperson except for the fact that Christianity was hijacked long ago and has soundly rejected any true Christ-like or biblical teachings unless they are used as a basis for hate.

Look up god’s truth in a book? Do you realize how stupid you sound? The bible is written by human beings, not god. Why would god need a book to tell people that being gay is right or wrong? Think about it, folks, why would a supernatural being need a book to tell people what to do?
If you think the bible has god’s word in it, then you also think Carrie’s breasts are devoid of plastic.

Mander, you’re an idiot. Do you not see the blatant hypocrisy between Prejean’s words and Prejean’s actions? She supposedly “stands up” for sexual purity, while participating in a contest that exploits her own sexuality. Then she plays the victim card, and the hero card, and for some reason, the right-wingers suck it up. Can you not see what is wrong with that??

Has anyone ever read the Bible?
From cover to cover? When you do -
that’s when you should be making a comment about what’s right and wrong.
Christians aren’t perfect, just forgiven. The Bible says,
‘The preaching of the cross is foolishness to them that perish’.
btw, per Almighty God – it is not ok to be gay – look it up for yourself.

I’m sorry but where I come from? A sin is a sin. A liar is no worse than the gay guy. If gay is a sin. Then we could go into that whole love thy neighbor thing. God meant the gay guy, not your BFF next door that was so easy to love.

“God chose me for that moment because he knew that not only would I be the one to stand up for him and for the truth, but because he knew I was strong enough to get through all the junk that I’ve been through,” said Prejean.
So what exactly is all the junk she’s been through. Has she ever gotten her hands dirty, has she ever worked a day in her life, has she ever been homeless, has she ever experienced a serious illness, has she ever had to decide between food or medical care, has she ever really, truly experienced tough times? I think not.
Losing a beauty contest and having people bad mouth you does not a martyr make.
Is this really all someone has to do to be a hero for the Republican party? Look pretty, walk on stage, make one statement about your beliefs? BTW, she has every right to take a stand on gay marriage and speak her mind, but does that make her a political genius?
Posted by: Butterfly | September 18, 2009, 6:51 pm 6:51 pm
Go Prejean! It takes courage to do what you did at the pageant… May all that you’ve gone through only make you a stronger person. And you are… Keep up the faith.
Posted by: Prejeansupporter | September 18, 2009, 6:54 pm 6:54 pm
The funniest thing to me about all this is that nowhere in her original speech did she actually “take a stand” on the issue of gay marriage. In fact, she specifically said that she would not want gay marriage to be made against the law, she just disagreed with it. If anything, this is a center-left position. It was only after the ridiculous reactions from both the right and the left, the former calling her a hero and the latter calling her a bigot (and many other words that I won’t repeat) that Ms. Prejean CHANGED her stance on this issue by joining up with NOM, whose goal is to outlaw same-sex marriage.
Mattwoods44, your post makes zero sense. First you say conservatives leave gays alone, then you say homosexuality is an illness that should be covered up. Then you imply that gays should be allowed to marry, but you apparently don’t think conservative opposition to that is a bother to gays?
Also, there is zero evidence that Prejean’s opposition to gay marriage is what cost her the crown. Again, that’s sort of disproven by the fact that she actually said gay marriage should be legal at the pageant, and only changed her stance later.

It’s tough, because I do think it’s not fair to only reward people for saying politically correct things. On the other hand, I think these pageants are absurd in the first place, so what do I know. On the other hand, there’s just no way around the fact that she’s a bigot. She seems like a very nice and sincere bigot. But simply saying that you were raised a certain way and that your religion teaches you certain things doesn’t change the fact that those things make you a bigot.

“Why do so many of you make comments like all christians have to be perfect???”……….. I don’t remotely expect Christian’s to be perfect. But I expect them to try really hard to conduct themselves in the manner the bible speaks of. I don’t remotely think topless photos falls into such a category? If you’re going to stand in front of the public as a Christian then behave like one. How hard is it to avoid topless photos? Lying on an application about ever having done any?

I do not believe that the Miss USA/Miss Universe padgent is a “Godly” padgent so I don’t think God had anything to do with Miss Prejean losing even if she did honor God in her statement regarding man/woman marriage. She and all the others surely were not honoring God stepping out in those skimpy swim suits! While I support a man/woman marriage as she does, I feel that I would have answered the question in some way like “Personally I believe in a man/woman marriage but I realize that there are those in this country that believe differently and I am not here to judge them” and maybe that would have been the end of it.

I winced when she started her sentence,at the pageant with the words ..”in MY country, uh state” in her answer to the judge who was not born in the USA. It was clearly condescending and elitist. After that, her answer to the question was immaterial. This is the same mentality shown by Former Miss Alaska contestant Palin on the campaign saying she was glad to be in “real” America.

As a social and political conservative, I am saddened to see a movement (which used to be inspired by intelligent leaders of substance like Ronald Reagan, William F. Buckley, and Barry Goldwater) now turning to the likes of a topless porn model whose thinking has been so distorted by the trauma of her family’s dissolution over issues of homosexuality (she even testified in court against her own father).
No one begrudges her her religious convictions. She can adopt whatever beliefs she chooses and apply them in HER OWN life. However, it isn’t her privilege to advocate the hijacking of the civil law (which belongs to everyone) to force her own narrow religious dogma on those who believe differently. What she is doing is thoroughly un-American.
She is now being exploited by extremist groups and hatemongers like Maggie Gallagher as a shill for bigotry. She has even deluded herself into thinking that God has chosen a boob-job bikini bimbo to deliver the truth to America. It would be laughable if it did not threaten the legal rights of millions of other Americans.
She should be vigorously denounced by all decent people as the ridiculous fraud that she is: signing false statements to secure a job, failing to honor contractual obligations, and posing as someone who could actually understand any important legal issue.

Lavadiera (Hilton) blindsided this person with a question for which he would only abide one answer, and she didn’t give that answer.
It was not a beauty contest question that any of her peers in the contest were subjected to — it was a hardball political question in a softball arena.
She expressed her own beliefs eloquently (that, for her, marriage is between a man and a woman), only to have the “B” word thrown at her by Hilton.
Now she’s in the limelight, making Hilton look like he’s on his 16th minute — which he is.

After working on Habitat for Humanity, homeless shelters and in reading programs with Evangelicals, I have found them to be dedicated to service, quiet, unassuming but also very strong in their faith while respecting others. Compare that to the liberals who talk but don’t serve. I was one of those once.

With her fake boobs and lying about her semi-nude photos, and refusing to honor her contract as Miss California, Prejean is hardly a poster child for honest ethical behavior. If she’d won Miss USA, she would NOT be spending all her time campaigning against gay rights or anything else. She’d just be smiling vacuously and practicing her beauty pageant wave.
She’s an empty bobble-headed bleach blond puppet on a string. Aren’t her 15 minutes of fame long over?

“It sounds like so many people here are used to being politically correct that they can’t tolerate diversity at all.”
Nothing to do with political correctness, James. Equal rights for gay people and gay couples is MORAL correctness.
For all those talking about how gay people should respect her opinion if they want their own to be respected, you need to understand that for gay people this isn’t a matter of abstract opinion – it’s a matter of their actual, real lives, and whether others get to smash those lives up to feel good about themselves.
Equal rights for gay people costs heterosexuals nothing. It costs Christians nothing. It costs the right nothing. Unless of course, they hate gay people.

We ALL have a right to our opinions, too.
Who is this silly little arrogant Bible spice of a twit, trying to dictate to others how they should live and love?
I don’t watch those pageants purposely because the contestants are usually such phonies. She just confirmed it.
So now, I don’t want to hear her opinions anywhere else, either. Let her go to her dominist church and preach all she wants. That way, the rest of us can be spared her homophobia.
But if it were a gay man who paid for her fake boobs, I bet her opinion would change in a heartbeat.

“I find this hoopla odd. Considering she got fake breasts, lied on her application, got caught doing naked photos, and paraded on TV in the bathing suit. I had no problem with her answer, and support her right to have said it. I just find it odd she’s the big hero of Christian conservatives while they ignore the other stuff.”
That’s all the GOP is good for anymore. Ignoring FACTS.

nothing in the N.T. or O.T. was was wtitten by anyone that had ever personally met Jesus Christ. My 8 year old son tells stories of people he’s never met, and they’re names are Wolvarine, Optimus Prime, and The Silver Surfer

FIRST: It was everyone wanted tolerance FOR the homosexuals AND acceptance! Now that the homosexuals are getting acceptance they don’t have acceptance OR TOLERANCE for any other point of views! What happened to freedom of speech?? It isn’t JUST for homosexuals!! The ad hominem attacks are used because they can’t refute the basic claim of the MESSAGE and instead attack the messenger. YAWN, so juvenile! Just look at these responses…. LOL Look like a bunch of third graders. My apologies to third grader HOME SCHOOLERS!.

“Now that the homosexuals are getting acceptance they don’t have acceptance OR TOLERANCE for any other point of views! ”
Why should gay people respect or accept the view that they and their lives are second class? Why should they accept an equal rhetorical footing with those who hate them? Why should they bolster the homophobic fiction that this is about “political opinions” rather than the lives of real people?

“God” told her to say that? Is this the same God that chose to create the Earth with unstable tectonic plates and gave us malaria, polio, Ebola, AIDS, influenza and tobacco? Gee, what is stupider: believing in God in the first place, or believing that her homophobia is demanded by a malevolent, mass-murdering maniac?

The best trait of modern conservatism is that it is all window-dressing and hypocrisy. All morals are relative, to conservatives, and lip-service is all that matters.
Catholicism, with its rock-solid foundational belief that the interior life, and integrity, are always more important than lip-service and words, shines as the light on the hill, and the darkness of modern conservatism’s moral bankruptcy is a blessing and a grace to the Church.

Apparently you liberals who hate Carrie Prejean just don’t get it and you didn’t read this article very carefully. She spoke to a packed room of HUNDREDS. We conservatives are NOT a small fringe group as many of you think. We number into the hundreds of thousands and we are growing in number everyday. We showed that in the recent townhall meetings. We made our presence known and made it known LOUD AND CLEARLY! We lost the last election but it will be an entirely different story in the next election. We are going to take this country back in the name of the Lord. Get ready for it! You liberals and atheists are not going to run this country any longer!

I thank the Lord for Carrie Prejean! We need many more like her! We need people who will speak out for Christian values!

One question for all the liberals out there. If you could choose your parents — all things being equal — would you choose gay parents?
Honestly, now…

Why does it appears the REPUBLICAN women are in-articulate with loud “sqeaky voices”, BLEACHED BLONDE hair , SHORT-SKIRTS, HIGH-HEELS, self-centered.
And the Democratic Women appears maternal, articulate, smart, normal hair, sensible shoes with appropriate hem-lines.

John Edwards, 2004 Democrat vice presidential nominee and 2008 presidential contender, uses his cancer-stricken wife as a prop to prove his family values while having an affair with his aide and fathering a child by her.
Edwards promises the pregnant aide he will marry her after his wife dies of the cancer and will even book the Dave Mathews Band for the rooftop nuptials.
Edwards denies it all and compounds the lie by having Andrew Young (another aid) lie for him and claim paternity.
Edwards pays the pregnant aid out of campaign funds illegally.
The story is ignored by the media.
Edwards goes on to be an environmental champion but hypocritically builds a 28,000 square foot house surrounded by SUV’s.
The media buries the lies, cover-ups, hypocrisies and corruption of Dem VP nominee John Edwards.
Carrie Prejean, during a beauty contest–a beauty contest!–simply says she thinks that marriage should be between members of the opposite sex… and is destroyed by the media and the kind, understanding commenters here.
The same media and kind commenters ignore the lies, cover-ups and corruption of Dem VP nominee John Edwards.
People, why the double standard?
Why must the beauty queen who hurt no one be destroyed while the Democrat who would be president who actually lied and left a trail of broken people in his self-serving wake, be protected?

I believe people have the right to form bonds with whoever they want. Even legally. If there’s an entitlement due to a married spouse, why not a partnered gay person?
I think we have the obligation to be real. Opposite sex pairs are not the same thing as same sex pairs. One is a relationship of polarity and the other is one of parallel direction. You have to force opposite sex people to stay together. You have to link them firmly. The parallels need to stay bonded by staying in the same direction.

It is a misconception that Christians are suppose to be perfect with Christ. Christ was the only perfect person that has ever lived. Of course, Prejean is flawed when compared to Christ. None of us Christians will live up to the life Christ lived, but we must continue to try to do what Jesus would have wanted us to do. Prejean did that. She stood up knowing that she would take the wrath of the un-believers. I admire her strength.

Prejean, whose book, “Still Standing,” is set to be released in November, got emotional while discussing how her belief in “opposite-sex marriage” cost her points in the Miss USA contest.

Reading through these comments, it doesn’t surprise me that this is the ABC News blog/website. What does surprise me is the number of posts here sticking up for Carrie. Like many have already noted, its interesting to see the hate spew forth from those with an opposing view point to hers. It reveals your heart and your true nature. I post on many liberal blogs my opposing views. But have never resorted to the kind personal, vile hate speech I see secular liberals use. Good luck winning anyone’s heart or mind with that approach.

She provided one of the great teachable moments when the country was exposed to the vivid contrast between her classy conservatism and the vicious liberalism of her dumbbell detractor Perez Hilton.

It really doesn’t take much to get republican approval nowadays. I guess when you have nothing, you take what you can get. Palin / Prejean 2012. That is for their photo shoots in Playboy.

I am so proud of Carrie! She is a beautiful young woman who had the intestinal fortitude to stand up for her faith and speak the truth! As for those of you here who can resort to nothing but juvenile namecalling, you’re no better than that idiot who asked her that question about gay marriage in the first place! Oh, and by the way, the majority of the voters of this country agree with Carrie! Not that it matters. What matters is that she agrees with God on this subject.
My prayers and best wishes for the success of your book, Carrie. I’ll be buying copies for the young women in my church. They need godly women to hold as role models.

Her story has changed over and over. She’s previously said that she didn’t know who Perez Hilton was until later; here she says she knew he was an “openly gay man.”
Also, you can tell from the video that she didn’t have some divine moment.
She is nasty.

You know she is doing the right thing when one sees all the anger spewed at her for who would want it? She and others like her have something greater in perspective that far outshines any insult. Insults only come from those whose breath is in their nostrils. There is no validity other than the mouths of those who choose to vent against those who differ in their ideas. Rather think that there is something greater in mind and wonder how you also can achieve what causes someone to be so brave. Those who have such extreme anger should think about why they own it and deal with it rather than bother with others lives. The Lord is with you, Carrie as with Esther, however, I suppose we’ll have to read your book to find out what occurred in your poor judgment to expose your body as you know the Lord would not have us do. We know that we are not all we should be, but the Lord in His mercy forgives each one of our sins as we confess and “go and sin no more.” Back in the ’70′s I got flack in college and elsewhere…I didn’t understand then the idea of political correctness. I could only scratch my head that thinking was so different from mine. I now know who is behind it and so do you. “Be strong in the Lord and the power of His might and He will lift you up.” What Carrie knows is that once we’re gone from here, we will need to face our Maker…it will either be with the blood of Christ’s forgiveness or a judgment worse than being insulted here on earth…so I fear for the insulters. I thought God was calling me to the kind of faith you have Carrie…but He did put you and Rifqua out there for such a time as this. I will keep you in my prayers, Carrie! And for all who take offense at what is not understandable to them.
