President Obama and NATO Secretary-General Agree: “Strategy First, Then Resources”
President Obama and NATO Secretary General Anders Rasmussen presented a unified front in the president’s pending decision on Afghanistan Tuesday afternoon.
The president said that he and Rasmussen discussed “the most important NATO mission right now, and that is Afghanistan.”
He defined that mission as “dismantling, disrupting, destroying the al Qaeda network” and “effectively working with the Afghan government to provide the security necessary for that country.”
Rasmussen said the “operation in Afghanistan is not America’s responsibility or burden alone. It is and it will remain a team effort.”
The NATO Secretary-General said he agreed with President Obama’s deliberative approach to the next steps in Afghanistan: “strategy first, then resources. The first thing is not numbers. It is to find and fine-tune the right approach to implement the strategy already laid down, and all NATO allies are right now looking at (Gen. Stanley) McChrystal’s review.”
He added that “the normal discussion on the right approach should not be misinterpreted as lack of resolve. This Alliance will stand united and we will stay in Afghanistan as long as it takes to finish our job.”
The two also discussed a strategic review for NATO, and missile defense.
President Obama noted that he and Rasmussen “had the opportunity to get to know each other at the NATO summit in Strasbourg, at which he was nominated and then selected as the new Secretary General of NATO,” an allusion to President Obama’s peace-making prowess in securing Turkey’s support for Rasmussen’s nomination to the NATO position given Rasmussen’s refusal to apologize for his freedom of speech stance during the 2006 controversy surrounding the publication of cartoons of the prophet Mohammed.

Obama: 'Now Is the Time For Common Sense Action'
Romney Takes Aim at Conservatives
President Obama is pursuing the right course. Working conjointly with NATO allies will help strengthen the offense.
We are fortunate to have a capable, thoughtful man of action as President.

The guy who promised to listen to the commanders on the ground has met with them once.
There’s time for Sunday talk shows, for golf, for Letterman and for lobbying for an Olympics Chicago doesn’t want outside of politicians but there is no time for meeting with McChrystal.
So when is Obama going to get Osama? He made it sound so simple before the election!

Gus
Obama promised he’d get more combat troops for Afghanistan from our allies.
He got none.

Time to redefine the mission.

Whew… Obama appears to be allergic to his office of President. He seems to be the Delegator-In-Chief. More and more he appears to be in over his head and seeking others to lay the mantle of presidnecy upon (think Pelosi, Reid, etal).
He seems to only want to be Celebrity-In-Chief who pontificates to the lowly unwashed masses who aren’t bright enough to brainlessly agree with what-ever lie or half-truth is his latest shill. UGH.

I’m betting the Taliban and AlQeda are as intimidated by Obama as Iran is.
Which means–not so much.

Has he forgotten that six months ago he unveiled his new strategy, and sent 21,000 men over there to implement it? Guys are getting killed every day while this fool dithers over a health-care bill that won’t take effect until 2013 if it is enacted at all.

“I can remember when our leaders LEAD.”
According to a USA Today/Gallup poll earlier this month, 72% of Americans say Obama “is willing to make hard decisions,” and 66% describe him as “a strong and decisive leader.”
(I wonder if General Rasmussen is only concerned with likely terrorists as opposed to registered terrorists.)
