Senate Votes to Keep Housing Funds from ACORN

Coming off the news we covered last Friday that the Census Bureau was severing ties with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now for the 2010 census, the Senate yesterday voted overwhelmingly to prohibit Housing and Urban Development grants from going to the group, which bills itself as “the nation's largest community organization of low and moderate income families."

Eighty-three senators voted for an amendment from Sen. Mike Johanns, R-Neb., to ban the funds, with seven senators voting against the amendment and nine not voting.

Johanns noted that ACORN is under investigation for voter registration fraud in several states, and also mentioned recent videos from two young conservative journalists posing as a pimp and a prostitute and secretly videotaping ACORN employees who seeming offer to help them secure housing as well as other advice. The tapes were first posted on Biggovernment.com and received much coverage on Fox News Channel.

After tapes from the Baltimore and Washington, DC, ACORN offices became the "tipping point" for the Census Bureau last week, yesterday a new undercover film emerged from an ACORN office in New York City.

Prompted by the videos and recent arrest warrants issued in Florida for ACORN employees who allegedly falsified voter applications, today Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., the ranking Republican on the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, wrote to the committee chairman, Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., and the Department of Housing and Urban Development inspector general Kenneth Donohue calling for "an immediate and thorough investigation" into ACORN's activities.

"Last night’s vote served as a resounding rebuke on behalf of American taxpayers regarding the activities of ACORN,” said Shelby in a statement.  "While this vote is important, it is limited in scope and we must know more.  It is imperative that we proceed immediately to investigate what appears to be ACORN’s stunning disregard for the law and abuse of taxpayer funds.  Such an investigation would serve as the basis for determining not only whether ACORN is worthy of receiving other federal funds this year, but ever again.”

Shelby said the recent controversies "add to numerous other reported issues within the organization over many years including: embezzlement of nearly one million dollars by the brother of the organization’s founder; charges of additional voter registration fraud in other states; and the stripping of federal grants following findings that ACORN used federal money to promote legislation."

In a statement on Saturday, ACORN's chief organizer Bertha Lewis said the "relentless attacks on ACORN's members, its staff and the policies and positions we promote are unprecedented."

Lewis said Fox was "attempt(ing) to destroy the largest community organization of Black, Latino, poor and working families in the country.  It is not coincidence that the most recent attacks have been launched just when health care reform is gaining traction.  It is clear they've had these tapes for months. We are their Willy Horton for 2009.  We are the boogeyman for the right-wing and its echo chambers.  If ACORN did not exist, the right-wing would have needed to create us in order to achieve their agenda, their missions, their ideal, retrograde America."

Lewis said that she "cannot and I will not defend the actions of the workers depicted in the video, who have since been terminated.  But it is clear that the videos are doctored, edited, and in no way the result of the fabricated story being portrayed…"

She lauded ACORN's work helping hundreds of thousands of African-American and Latino voters register to vote and get to the polls, preparing, since 2004, approximately 150,000 free tax returns, and helping thousands of Americans avoid foreclosure.

In March, the Senate voted 53-43 against an amendment from Sen. David Vitter, R-Louisiana, to ban funds under the Edward M. Kennedy National Service Act from going to ACORN.

The White House had no immediate comment on the Senate vote.

Opponents of the president's have long attempted to tie ACORN's history of malfeasance to President Obama himself.

Last year, the Obama campaign had paid an ACORN-affiliated consulting firm, Citizens Services Inc., $832,598 for “staging, sound, lighting” and advance work, but later amended its August and September Federal Election Commission reports http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/11/us/politics/11acorn.html to reflect that the money was for help in get-out-the-vote efforts. Amending FEC returns is not unusual, but the campaign of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., insinuated that the Obama campaign was trying to hide the relationship.

McCain attempted to make a campaign issue of the rampant voter registration fraud tied to ACORN and his campaign demanded that then-Sen. Obama disclose his full relationship to the group.

"First of all, my relationship to ACORN is pretty straightforward," the now-president said, when asked last October about McCain's charges by ABC News. "It's probably 13 years ago when I was still practicing law, I represented ACORN and my partner in that representation was the US Justice Department in having Illinois implement what was called the 'Motor Voter' law, to make sure that people could go to DMV’s and drivers’ license facilities to get registered.. It wasn’t being implemented. That was my relationship and is my relationship to ACORN.

"There is an ACORN organization in Chicago," Obama continued. "They have been active. As an elected official, I've had interactions with them. But they are not advising our campaign. We've got the best voter registration and turnout and volunteer operation in politics right now and we don’t need ACORN’s help.

“My understanding in terms of the voter fraud, because having run a voter registration drive, I know how problems arise, this is typically a situation where ACORN probably paid people to get registrations and these folks, not wanting to actually register people because that's actually hard work, just went into a phone book or made up names and submitted
false registrations to get paid," Obama said. "So there's been fraud perpetrated probably on ACORN if they paid these individuals and they actually didn’t do registrations.”

"But this isn't a situation where there's actually people who are going to try to vote 'cause these are phony names," Obama said. "And, it's doubtful (Dallas Cowboys quarterback) Tony Romo" — whose name had been fraudulently submitted — "is gonna show up in Ohio to vote. So this is another one of these distractions that gets stirred up in the course of a campaign.

"But what I want to make sure of, is that this is not used as an excuse for the kind of voter suppression strategies and tactics that we've seen in the past. Let’s just make sure everybody is voting, everybody’s registered.  Let's make sure that everybody’s doing it in a lawful way."

This came after the Obama campaign inaccurately claimed on its "Fight the Smears" website that "Barack was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.” ACORN spokesman Lewis Goldberg told the New York Times that Obama conducted two unpaid leadership training sessions for ACORN’s Chicago affiliate in the late 1990s; the campaign updated the "smear" rebuttal to assert that "ACORN never hired Obama as a trainer, organizer, or any type of employee.” (Key word: hired.)

Confusing matters even further were false charges and baseless insinuations from the McCain camp, with campaign manager Rick Davis urging reporters to ask Obama of the ACORN training sessions, “What were you teaching them? Were you teaching them how to evade the law?” and incorrectly asserting that when Obama represented ACORN he was standing “against the State of Illinois and the federal government.”

Actually, the Justice Department was a co-plaintiff with ACORN in the suit.

**

ACORN's attorneys wrote to Fox News CEO Roger Ailes suggesting that the tapes have been improperly doctored. "It is very clear that the questions being asked are a voiceover, placed on the tape by the film maker," wrote attorney Arthur Schwartz. "It is ACORN’s position, at this time, that the videotape is doctored and that the voiceovers change the real dialog. We demand, as counsel to ACORN, that FOX cease publication of these tapes unless it can produce proof that the conversations actually took place."

In another letter, Schwartz asserts that "the filming and broadcast of the conversations at the Baltimore ACORN offices violates" Maryland law, "which makes it unlawful to wilfully intercept, endeavor to intercept, or procure any other person to intercept any oral conversation unless all parties to the communication consent."

Maybe the American people should begin picketing in front of every ACORN office in America until Congress investigates their activities. Use their own tactics against them!

Don’t give them any more taxpayer funds.
Investigate them.
It is possible to do work on behalf of the poor without being utterly corrupt.

Jake, Charlie Gibson said this morning on a Chicago radio show that he hadn’t heard of the latest ACORN scandal.

We know the MSM(?name)will only report stories critical of Obama when they are absolutely forced to and when they do, they make sure it is a 1-day affair, then swept under the proverbial rug.
The American people are getting tired of news being withheld in order to prop up the Boy King.

Jake/ABC – Thank you for this reporting.
Guess who is paying for the ACORN lawyers? Taxpayers.
Cut off ALL funding until ACORN clears investigation.

Very hard to find this story on ABC, NBC, CNN. AP has a rather bland article about it distributed. Seems Americas wonderful free press is blatantly “cherry picking” the news it wants to report, over public airwaves. Seriously, do they thing that they can keep this a secret? Now I will tell you this. THe media boycotting storys like Van Jones, and now the ACORN story, do not serve the interestes of those who might garner the most support for such entities. IF they dont know one of theirs is under attack, how can they know to defend him? Seriously, the people that want the truth will find it, but many of those that depend on a biased media that cherry picks will not know what is going on until its to late and the story has concluded. Its easy to see that there are political reasons for this bias, but there may truly be unwanted effects from such a policy. Many of the very people who are effected by these stories will be uninformed due to the medias bias.

UPDATE: FOR JAKE
“The tapes were first posted on ########## and received much coverage on Fox News Channel, but received no coverage from any other major news organization, despite the fact that taxpayor funds are allocated to the organization that was attempting to advice on how to defraud the government of the US and set up an illegal house of prostitution involving minors”
There ya go ABC and MR Tapper. I fixed it for ya.

“asserting that when Obama represented ACORN he was standing “against the State of Illinois and the federal government.”
Actually, the Justice Department was a co-plaintiff with ACORN in the suit.”
Is there any wonder why ACORN is getting traction by suggesting that the Republicans who made and edited the films may have doctored the tapes?
“It is ACORN’s position, at this time, that the videotape is doctored and that the voiceovers change the real dialog.”
I really doubt that and I think the police need to be allowed to get involved. Fox needs to release copies of the full tapes to law enforcement so the thugs caught on them can be tried in a court of law, not just fired from their minimum wage job. Why won’t Fox release the tapes so the prosecutors can build a case?

Posted by: jhw539 | September 15, 2009, 11:55 am 11:55 am

Maybe the American people should make it clear to each Representative that they help to uncover all of the corruption or we will vote them out of their jobs. Come clean or come out.
Kudos to FOX for breaking this story. Can’t believe Gibson ‘didn’t know’.

Ruly remarkable. In two weeks we have two stories uncovered by Fox News and conservative blogs, and the stories are totally blacked out by the MSM until the day after the White House (Van Jones) and the US Senate (ACORN) were compelled to take action.
Remember when the NYTimes and the WaPo used to uncover such stories? Now they do their best to cover them up.
Thank God for the new media.

It is time the government investigated ACORN. It has become obvious the amount of fraud that goes on there. One of the two founders has already pled guilty to embezzelment. Then ACORN top officials fired the whole board when the board demanded an audit after this admitted fraud. Voter fraud in 2008 was rampart with ACORN nd now these tapes in 2009 proving how dishonest ACORN representatives are in several offices in several different states with more tapes to come. There is another one to be released today. If Fox news has given this the most coverage it is because the MSM liberal media will not do their job in reporting on this or asking ANY hard questions of President Obama and his administration. With so many tax dollars going to groups that make up ACORN it is time for EVERYONE to start questioning this and it would be great if the liberal MSM would join in before they are MSM no more!

One of these days the networks will wake up to the face that the viewers are aware of their left leaning news and more and more are going to FOX which is the only one that will report ALL the news not just one side.Sic um FOX

I dont see why anyone would continue to support an organization that would support child prostitution!!! Get a clue people!! Why is the MSM, MainStream Media, called “mainstream”?
What they really are is a news MONOPOLY built around promoting liberal/leftist causes and purposefully blacking out news that puts their ideology in a bad light.
Investigate ACORN?
Heck, Congress needs to investigate why all major news outlets, except one, are keeping valid information and news away from the general public.
It is obscene the way the news is being censored IN AMERICA.
This is bordering on criminal behavior.
Yesterday, I heard a commentator on a Chicago news radio show ask the question, What did Obama do when he worked for ACORN?
Hello… In Chicago, a NEWS radio program. They didn’t bother to ask this question during the election for fear of what they might find out!
Unbelievable…

An adress to a joint session of Congress, all for naught:
Following President Obama’s speech to Congress last week, support for his health care reform plan increased steadily to a peak of 51% yesterday. However, the bounce appears to be over. The latest daily tracking shows that support has fallen all the way back to pre-speech levels.

Forty-five percent (45%) of all voters nationwide now favor the plan while 52% are opposed. A eweek ago, 44% supported the proposal and 53% were opposed.

People have been complaining (on blogs throughout the internet) about ACORN’s shady dealings since the presidential campaign season started.
The only responses we received was from the Nutters(Obama Supporters)who vehemently denied any wrongdoing from ACORN (despite evidence such as taped misdoings) or links to Obama.
I do not see many of the Nutters now on this blog and have not heard one peep from Chicken Little.
Here’s hoping that those two kids crack the ACORN nut wide open.
I have a feeling it won’t be pretty.

I’m not impressed by ACORN ditching a few minimum wage thugs at the merest whiff of bad PR. I want to see these people in jail. Why won’t Fox release copies of the uneditted tapes to shut up ACORN for good? It’s a trivial thing to do – just release the full tapes so the prosecutors have the best case to put in front of a grand jury.
Why won’t Fox release the full tapes and REALLY break ACORN?

Is this what “Change” is all about?
Filtering the News and censorship?
People aren’t stupid.
The “real” news is readily available on the Internet ABC can’t hide the “real” news from America.
This is why the ABC News ratings are so disgustingly low right now.

ABC – You can’t hide the facts in this Information Age we live in.

great irony here….ACORN has been waiting for this exact moment in time for years where they get their dream president, who promises them a voice to shape policy, and as a result of Obama’s election, a light was shined on their illicit behavior. Now the super-majority Democratic Senate just voted overwhelmingly to deny them government money. Karma baby.

Could it have anything to do with the fact that oil company tax revenue is not so bad after all when the Dems are in charge of the WH?
Nah…

It’s the same pattern. Homeland Security estimates that 1.8 million people showed up at the TEA Party march in Washington over the weekend, but the mainstream print media ignore the march or relegate it to the back pages, AP says only that “thousands” marched, and the only network TV coverage consists of visuals signs by Acorn infiltrators intended to place the march in a false light. They only cover stories that fit in with their world view, and thus ignore the real news.
It’s good to know that even Al Franken voted to de-fund Acorn. Apparently, even Al can’t stomach taxpayer funding for the illegal immigrant child prostitution rings being run by Acorn.

Posted by: The tax man cometh | September 15, 2009, 12:41 pm 12:41 pm

Jake, there are certain questions that ABC should be asking, in my opinion.
1. If ACORN is innocent why did they hastily fire there employees, even though they claim the tapes are doctored up?
2. Why did the Census folks act so quickly when there had not been a great media or public outcry?
3. Why did the Senate act so hastily the bi-partisanly pass a Republican sponsored bill to block funds to ACORN?
4. Doesn’t it look suspicious that an effort has been underway to kill this story before a full blown public airing can occur?
5. Even if the Obama administration is completely innocent, wouldn’t a news organization be publicly asking them some tough pointed questions? Shouldn’t they be eager to raise questions before their viewers in matters that apparently involve a long list of federal level felonies by ACORN?
6. Why is there no head line posted on this story, at least that I could find? Is an ABC exclusive on Serena really more important, more newsworthy?
There are a lot more questions if you are interested in asking them.

“Or Fox could just release copies of the full tapes so prosecutors could do their jobs and start putting these ACORN thugs in jail.”
Any prosecutor intersted in doing his job could simply subpoena the tapes. Or ACORN could file a civil lawsuit and do the same.
Meantime, I’m confident that Fox is very comfortable and happy with the hand it is playing. And I would assume that any Senator who thought the “full tapes” would shed any different light on the story would not have voted to cut off the funding.
What we have here appears to be a prima facie RICO case. Over to you, Mr. Holder–I know you’ll follow the facts and the law wherever they lead you, as we are a nation of laws and no one is above those laws. Right?

Posted by: Fascist Hyena | September 15, 2009, 12:42 pm 12:42 pm

ABC….you are a joke and the American public now realizes it! You should have an entire day set aside to appologize to us for your failure to report unbiased news, or even report ALL the news, even when it doesn’t suit your agenda!

Posted by: Curt | September 15, 2009, 12:43 pm 12:43 pm

I wonder if even this is enough to topple ACORN?
There are those so blinded, that they cannot accept the truth, even when it is right in front of them.
The allegations against ACORN have mounted up over the years, but no one wanted to investigate.
ACORN was untouchable, and became more and more corrupt.
ACORN played a huge role in Obama’s election victory.
So, how deep does the fraud go?

Posted by: MisElaineous | September 15, 2009, 12:44 pm 12:44 pm

Release the full tapes and put those thugs in jail. Anything less is protecting them. I have heard NO possible excuse to not release copies of the full tapes so that prosecutors have the best chance to get a case rolling and put these guys behind bars.
Why not release copies of the full tapes? Why protect ACORN?

“But it is clear that the videos are doctored, edited, and in no way the result of the fabricated story being portrayed.”
Of course, Bertha, it’s all just one big misunderstanding. Your ACORN reps weren’t advising the undercover journalists about how to get away with “prostitution”, they were actually counseling them to consider “restitution”, right? And when the couple discussed importing thirteen-year-old girls from South America to turn tricks, why your trusting, innocent representatives thought they meant setting up a national tour for a children’s gymnastic team, didn’t they?. It all just goes to show how low some people will stoop to defame a noble, selfless, righteous organization such as yours.
But don’t worry, Bertha, the people of America believe every word that you say, so just keep right on spouting laughable drivel like this and you will lie your way out of it for sure. They are popular because they actually investigate and give you the side of the story you won’t see on the other networks. I call that being infomative not Right leaning. This is a clear example of how we would only learn about what the Left leaning media wants us to know about if not for other outlets. Now how about looking into the unacceptable influence of Unions on this administration and the political payoffs that total in the Billions as a thank you for helping get them elected!? The SEIU alone stands to make well over $1Billion yearly in additional Union dues if we allow the government to get their hands on healthcare and push through card check…..THAT seems to be the priority over truely fixing the problems in healthcare. The SEIU president Andy Stern has also been quoted as saying that the free market system is broken and that the government in conjunction with the unions must intervene….remember Obama said to the SEIU, “your agenda is my agenda”! The UAW was largely, if not solely responsible for the collapse of our auto companies, yet they get put at the head of the line in front of bond holders!!! That isn’t even legal! Now we have a union guy as our manufacturing czar despite having zero experience in manufacturing? We have AFL-CIO union officials appointed to the NY Fed?? What happened to putting an end to the influence of special interests? Most unions are leeches that suck companies and their employees dry for their own political gain despite claiming to be for the workers yet they are helping to shape the agenda and “fundamentally transform america”! COME ON ABC DO YOUR JOB! I expect it from NBC since their parent companies(GE) CEO is a close advisor to the president but I thought ABC had some integrty!

Sure, Fox has no sway over them at all. Right.
OK then, whoever does have the tapes should release full copies of them so ACORN can be put behind bars.
If there is no court case, no convictions, this will all blow over by next year and it will be back to business as usual.
RELEASE THE FULL TAPES AND PUT ACORN IN JAIL.
No one has offered a good reason why they don’t just release the full tapes and cut ACORN’s excuse making off at the knees. Release the full tapes and let the prosecutors take down ACORN.

Posted by: jhw539 | September 15, 2009, 1:03 pm 1:03 pm

By all means the FBI should investigate ACORN and prosecute anyone who’s broken the law, but it isn’t the President’s place to order such an investigation. Remember that the DOJ’s office is independent of the White House–the President isn’t supposed to command its prosecutorial authority, nor are members of Congress. I suppose Congress could authorize a special investigation of ACORN, but it just seems kind of low on the list of legislative priorities right now, when the FBI has the tools and authority necessary to do the exact same thing.

jhw359 don’t get too concerned about the full tapes not being released. They have been turned over to the authorities in Baltimore, D.C., and New York, you are just afraid that they might have more examples from other cities and don’t want it to drag out in the news. You would prefer that it gets reported all at once and then the media can forget about it and hope the public does too. Well, it is a good thing that a majority of Americans don’t rely solely on the old media for their news and they can find out about this stuff through all the diverse blogs that are out there. This will not go away soon, even if you had your wish and all the stuff hit the fan today.

ABC didn’t get their talking points from the DNC yet regarding ACORN. That’s why they have been AWOL on the story so far this week. Jake is going out on a limb here with no context for this story. Is he the last of journalists at ABC? Also since Obama is so closely tied with ACORN ABC has to be very careful on how they cover this story or they won’t get special privilidges inside the White House any more.

ACORN makes noises about suing the filmmakers and FOX and everybody else, but once they realize that during discovery, their corruption will be exposed even more, they will have second thoughts. But is a lawsuit does advance, I will be the first to write a big check to the defense fund. And I’ll bet I won’t be alone.

As the conservatives continue their witch hunts, and their brand of McCarthyism (which Glenn Beck’s parrots bragged about on t-shirts and signs at the 9/12 exploitation of the unity tragedy wrought eight years ago), they miss this point, which others have pointed out– While they’re being somewhat successful at taking down GOP bogeymen, these bogeyman have very, very little to do with Dems as a whole or today’s most pressing and important stories (the economy, Iraq, Afghanistan, health care). AND how powerful ACORN actually is and how closely the administration or Democrats in general are associated with the group versus the rightwingers’ beliefs about these things are two completely different stories. It’s a distraction. But, hey, the right wing noisemakers actually do get a good job of getting Tapper to pay attention to their malarkey.
On a related note, I’ve heard ACORN might sue Fox News, and I think that would be an interesting story worth following.

This is big new and new – up to this date they’ve only released the editted clips we’ve all seen to ANYONE. (Actually, they did turn the editted version over to authorities before even releasing it I think.)
Can anyone confirm that copies of the FULL UNCUT tapes (admissible evidence) have been turned over to prosecutors? If so, Fox really needs to ramp up pressure for indictments. The only defense ACORN has is the absence of the full tapes.
When were they turned over?

I happen to be equally or more opposed to the policies of Reid, Pelosi, Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Frank, Schumer, and the late Sen. Kennedy, so am I to be accused of racism in my opposition to them as well? There is nothing deeper about my dislike of Obama’s policies than that I dislike the liberal agenda. I could care less about whether the person I oppose is a man or woman, black, white, or hispanic, I just care about what they believe and whether they lie to the American people or whether they are up front and transparent about their policies.

The “full tapes” are a wholly imagined issue. Any state or federal prosecutor with jurisdiction now has abundant probable cause to make arrests and file felony charges, or to present the matter to a grand jury. If they do not do so, their forbearance has nothing at all to do with Fox’s not having “released the full tapes,” except in the wishful daydreams of the goofy left.
I, too, think a lawsuit by ACORN against Fox would be a garden of genuine delights. I might have to come out of a very comfortable retirement to draft the plan for documentary and testimonial discovery of the plaintiff–and all on a pro Bono publico basis.
Speaking of crooks, who doubts that Charlie Rangel has committed multiple felonies?

Actually, they do not need to be released at all, until there is some sort of legal action which necessitates it.
They belong to James O’Keefe. He is free to do with them what he chooses to do, and he has dared ACORN to sue him.

Wait – didn’t you just say the tapes have been released? Was that just a lie to cover up for the tape makers sitting on them to shield ACORN? ACORN in jail is great for us, but then Fox and company lose all those headlines.
RELEASE THE FULL TAPES AND PUT THESE THUGS BEHIND BARS.
The short cut versions currently released to make headlines are probable cause for an investigation, but the FULL UNCUT tapes would probably be enough for prosecution. “Look at these videos online” starts investigations, copies of the uncut tapes could start prosecutions. There is a BIG difference.
If no one is arrested based on this, it’s just a publicity stunt.
RELEASE THE TAPES NOW. QUIT AIDING ACORN’S PATHETIC EXCUSES.

Right – nothing to do with them >>> This came after the Obama campaign inaccurately claimed on its “Fight the Smears” website that “Barack was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.” ACORN spokesman Lewis Goldberg told the New York Times that Obama conducted two unpaid leadership training sessions for ACORN’s Chicago affiliate in the late 1990s; the campaign updated the “smear” rebuttal to assert that “ACORN never hired Obama as a trainer, organizer, or any type of employee.” (Key word: hired.)

From the BigGoverment blog:
“Last week, we saw some pretty disturbing activities revealed in the undercover footage from ACORN Housing’s Baltimore office. By any measure of conduct, the actions of ACORN’s employees should never have happened. It turns out the actions shouldn’t have happened for another, very simple, reason: ACORN can’t legally operate in the state of Maryland.
According to the following documents, ACORN, Inc.–the parent organization of all things ACORN–forfeited its corporate charter in Maryland in 2006. ACORN Housing forfeited its corporate charter in 2008. Any ACORN office in the state of Maryland is potentially operating illegally.”

What’s so concerning about this is that it’s turning into a political issue quickly. This is not a “one side or the other” political issue. Taxpayers in this country, no matter what your leanings are, deserve to KNOW what is happening with our money.
We can argue all day about the way the tapes were done, whether or not it was “legal”, does ACORN have the right to sue, and so on. But THE POINT is, this fraud-laden organization is instructing people HOW TO get out of paying taxes, how to “rename” your “line of work”, how to get away with running a brothel full of foreign girls less than 14 years old, and so on, and so on…and they are being partially funded WITH YOUR MONEY. Get that through your head. It’s YOUR MONEY. What they were doing on those tapes was not just immoral, it’s ILLEGAL. YOUR TAX MONEY is being used to assist an organization give people information to do ILLEGAL things. Whether it’s ACORN or any other group that is being funded by OUR MONEY, we have the right to know what they are doing. We have the right to be angry when they are exposed. And we have the right to want something done about it.
Summary: The ACORN organization, ripe with corruption and fraud, is using the tax money of hard working Americans to further their agenda, break the law, and encourage other people to do the same. Why should the people they “counsel” pay taxes? That’s what we’re here for, right? Why should we care if the people they “counsel” want to have 13-14 year old girls in a prostitution ring? Isn’t that what we want our tax dollars going for? Isn’t that where we want our moral standards to be?
Obama has tried to push his healthcare plan as a “moral issue”. So, when the foreign 14 year old prostitutes mentioned above get pregnant, or get a disease, or need psychiatric help down the road, are we going to use our “moral, tax payer funded health care plan” to take care of them? Just a thought.

Obama’s connection to Acorn is no more scandalous than Bush/Cheney’s link to Haliburton, which also received favorable status and contracts from the federal government. Just as we were critical of the Bush/Haliburton link, the media and taxpayers should be equally outraged and critical of the Obama/Acorn link. the difference, of course, while Haliburton received contracts, I don’t recall them breaking any laws or having the same problem Acorn seems to have with its employees.

What bothers me in all this fuss has nothing to do with R’s or D’s, conservatives or liberals, it has to do with right and wrong. If your argument is leave Acorn alone, then you condone theft of taxpayer money, no matter how the tapes were obtained. If you condemn someone (R, D, Cons or Lib) who is requesting that our elected officials do not continue to dole out taxpayer money, without at least looking into these allegations, then it only leads to belief that you in fact may condone it, no matter your affiliation. If news organizations hide their head in the political sand and fail to at least acknowledge a hint of a problem, then shame on them. Corruption doesn’t have a political party, it only has a life if left to continue its ugly progress. Our news people owe an airing to their viewers, failure to do so and treat it as a nuisance led by Fox then it is not reporting news and puts them in a different category, promoting their beliefs. Some great orator once said, “judge me by the people I associate with”, —I think I will

What does this have to do with anything, and why are the wingnuts so obsessed with it?

This is a perfect example of why we have corruption in government. As long as most voters get what they want — whether what they want is social security, health care, environmental policy or free cheese — they don’t care that millions of taxpayer money is being wasted. Meanwhile, those who are concerned about where those tax dollars go can’t get themselves heard.
This isn’t a republican or democrat problem — we’ve had waste and corruption in government for a very long time, but over the past few decades, it has gotten more and more out of control.

ACORN used federal housing money to lure illegal immigrants and low income renters into NoDoc loans — the promised FHA loans with no income check, not documentation, no tax forms required, 100% financing. They helped the applicants make up phony documents. These were subprime loans, and ACORN got kickbacks from mortgage brokers.
This is the bulk of the subprime housing crisis. ACORN is still peddling these loans.

IT IS ABOUT FREEKING TIME!!!!. I ‘m trying to understand exactly what their purpose is. Hm, let’s see afordable housing. Brilliant idea, this helped lead to lax guidelines that aided in the mortgage crises. I remember how they strong armed the banks w/CRA. Oh,I don’t mean to minimize this wonderful organization. They also help w/ voter rights for those who are “marginalized” and don’t know their voting rights. I have a tip for the “marginalized”. IF IN 2009 YOU DO NOT KNOW YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE, THEN MAYBE YOU SHOULDN’T! The people who run this Cesspool of an orgination are a bunch of THIEVES, as demonstraded on video. Did the dopes on Capital Hill forget the problems in the last election? I certainly hope the revoke the funds in the stimulus bill that was pasted this year. THESE THIEVES ARE DUE TO RECEIVE APPROX 8 BILLION DOLLARS. THAT WOULD CERTAINLY SET UP PLENT OF BROTHELS. WAY TO GO ACORN!

Glenn Beck work? He just delegates everything to his “Constitutional Watchdogs” who adoringly do all the legwork for him … and for free! Beck just plays psychotic martyr on TV and radio to boost ratings and collect millions.

The media bias is becoming increasingly evident with each passing story…ACORN, Protest in washington….and people are becoming ever so more aware of it…the media has become state run…no investigative reporting…no critique…becoming a podium for the presiednt this is really getting me concerned here it reminds me of the old USSR….one thing is certain if the senate by that majority cuts off funding you know this is the tip of the iceberg…adn the state run media continues to ignore it…hmmm…makes you wonder what their agenda is?

Posted by: phillysmart | September 15, 2009, 3:31 pm 3:31 pm

I knew some leaders of ACORN in Brooklyn, NY twenty years ago. They were awful people, cold and calculating, with no regard for anyone. ACORN was the group that intimidated the banks to give mortgages to low-income people who could not afford them. Otherwise, they threatened to picket them and brand them as racist. They and others like them orchestrated the subprime mess, and the irony is they were recently asked to give their input on this crisis as supposedly helpful observers. ACORN is a dangerous organization. They should never have received taxpayer dollars.

Ryan C —This is just the tip of the iceberg———Obama returns to Chicago in 1991, where he is named the Illinois head of “Project Vote” (an affiliate of “ACORN,” a group infamous for its involvement in vote fraud), to help increase the number of black voters. Project Vote is required to remain non-partisan to retain its tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) organization under the IRS Code
In 1995, Obama sues the State of Illinois on behalf of ACORN to get the state to comply with the federal “Motor Voter Law” law, which Republican Governor Jim Edgar correctly argues will invite voter fraud, partly because government officers registering new voters are “under orders not to ask anyone for identification or proof of citizenship.” ACORN has been prominent in the fight against photo I.D. for voting and other means of voter identification. ACORN specifically sought out Obama to represent them in the lawsuit (it was not simply assigned to him by a law firm).
In 1993, Obama runs leadership training sessions on the subject of “power” for ACORN leaders, and continues to do so until at least 2003. Obama also helps train the staff of high-ranking ACORN leader Madeline Talbott

Jake Taper….I have quit listening to ABC News because of you and the other non-professional correspondents at ABC and NBC. You don’t ask hard questions, you ignore any story that is negative to this president. You ignored the Teaparty March on Washington. Ignored and are ignoring the shady backrounds of presidential “czars” You didn’t dig into or ask “hard” questions about the President’s relationship with ACORN and it’s affiliates….You seem to be on a real cozy relationship with the Presidental Press Secretary.
Fox News has you all whipped….it is the only opposition news organization in town…..their advertizing is growing and yours is shrinking…at this rate, they will be the only “fair and balanced” news organization in town.

Posted by: grinch | September 15, 2009, 3:46 pm 3:46 pm

Ryan C,
you are right, a few do not represent the whole. But, if they were wrong, fire them and tell us how you (ACORN) will not let this happen again, don’t start blaming doctored tapes. If these tapes were truly doctored, then why fire the employees? Isn’t this what everyone is always arguing about, give us solutions, not excuses and then put blame on the opposition. Show us (the taxpayers) that our tax dollars are truly going to help those that need it. Such defensiveness appears to me as someone trying to hide something or not wanting to take responsibility of a subordinates actions.

Posted by: Why14? | September 15, 2009, 3:47 pm 3:47 pm

Yep – acorn helps minorities – with fraud. Now all those people who voted for Obama are suddenly racists because he has no experience and can’t straighten out his own party. Look objectively at his first 9 months – disorganization, distoritions, and failed promises. Truth is he just doesnt have the experience to deliver his leftist agenda

Posted by: Gene | September 15, 2009, 3:49 pm 3:49 pm

One of the key pioneers of ACORN, Madeline Talbott, was so impressed with Barack Obama that she hired him to train her personal staff and other aspiring ACORN leaders. Obama conducted leadership-training seminars for ACORN’s organizers. Obama was the executive director of voter registration for ACORN’s Chicago branch. Then when Obama was appointed to the Woods Fund he saw to it that ACORN was well funded. As a state senator he again saw to it that ACORN was well funded. As a U. S. Senator a good portion of his nearly $1 billion in earmarks went to groups associated with, if not directly to, ACORN. And now as president ACORN is still being extremely well funded in the tune of billions of dollars.

Ryan, great posts on the actual facts versus the bogeyman spin. This story has nothing whatsoever to do with the President.
Now, here’s something funny, that I suspect we’ll hear more about down the pike, despite its ridiculousness. Apparently, on Friday, 9/11, Beck “connected” the dots and insinuated that ACORN,SEIU, and Van Jones conspired to make the levees fail In New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit AND for the complete lack of federal aid immediately after the storm, which is a scandal which will forever rest at the feet of the Bush administration.
Crazy stuff. Intended to distract and misdirect and make bigger bogeymans out of community organizers and unions. This has nothing to do with the big issues of the day. I’d actually like to see more on the recent string of successes in the counterterrorism department.

If ACORN has committed crimes, they should be investigated and prosecuted accordingly. I doubt they will get a “pass” and I doubt anyone who assisted them in committing any crimes will get a pass either. But since none of you Obama haters trust the government, law enforcement agencies, FBI, courts, or mainstream media to uncover all the nefarious dealings you accuse him of being a part of, I guess you will just have to leave it up to Fixed Noise Channel to reveal the truth and go after the culprits, since every other news organization and American law enforcement organization is “in the tank” for Obama. Mr. Tapper,
You forgot to mention the sickest part of the sting videos; that the ACORN folks were actually compliant in assisting our faux pimp in the establishment of a brothel featuring under aged (13 to 15 year old) female illegal aliens from El Salvador. These vile ACORN employees should go to jail and ACORN should be completely shut down. And the fact that the democrat controlled Maryland so-called “Justice Department” is considering the prosecution of the whistle blowers under some kind of lame wiretapping law rather than going after ACORN speaks volumes about how corrupt the democrat party has become.

A few people working for Acorn giving bad and illegal advice doesn’t mean the entire organization is bad. Think of how many crooked bank people are outed every year, does it mean all the people working at that bank are crooked, of course not. Acorn should have stronger training for its employees, if these two are any indication of what there smaller offices are like. The ladies, while trying to be helpful to these customers, and obviously familiar with the problems of prostitution, should be trained that in every case, the customer has to be in a legal profession, no matter how common the illegal ones are in their neighborhood, for Acorn to have any dealings with them. This need for additional training goes on all the time in every corporation I’ve ever worked in. I’ve had to watch videos on what constitutes bribery, company theft, etc. on a yearly basis just to make sure all employees are on the same page as the company rules. It seems obvious to most of us, but not to all.

ACORN is crooked from the ground up. If upper management didn’t approve of this, lower people wouldn’t feel so comfortable advocating pedophilia. A few people on this message board said that Acorn is an organization that “helps poor minorities.” That couldn’t be further from the truth and anyone who has spent anytime really helping the poor knows that.
Organizations that provide job training, mentoring, interviewing help, resume writing, help overcoming drug abuse, etc. help minorities. Legislation like No Child Left Behind helps minorities. Scholarships help minorities. Microloans, business planning and money management classes help minorities.
Organizations like Acorn use the poor – they don’t help them. They have no interest in helping them out of poverty. Their goal is to keep them poor, keep them dependent on a system that should not support them, keep them down trodden and uneducated — if the poor are no longer poor, what use do they have for Acorn?

Posted by: Y | September 15, 2009, 5:03 pm 5:03 pm

Only a partisan hack would look at the attendance of the recent Tea Party and claim it fizzled. Only a partisan hack would look at the record low, after eight months, approval ratings of the president and claim he was winning the debate. What are you going to claim next? The stimulus has done a good job keeping unemployment down?
Furthermore, this has nothing to do with the healthcare debate, no matter how much the race-baiting president of ACORN claims it does. ACORN branches in fifteen states have either been indicted or investigated for voter fraud and voter registration fraud. And now they are giving advice on how to break the law. Only a partisan hack would think this organization should receive money from the government.

The Young Republicans have done “great” work turning out sleazy hit people.
Posted by: Ryan C
Sleazy?? How are you defining sleazy? Do you know the filmmaker and his assistant well enough to call them “sleazy hit people?” In your mind, if someone thinks there is wrong-doing going on within an organization, it should be ignored and not investigating because it somehow trespasses on your idea of what is right and wrong?
Acorn receives millions of dollars in taxpayer money, yet they sent protesters to the homes of AIG executives who earned bonuses after that company received TARP money. If there is any chance that Acorn is doing anything unethical, I am with most taxpayers — I want to know about it.
You can call it sleazy if you want to, but I use a much kinder word when defining people who expose corruption.

I would agree that ACORN has definitely been a source of corruption, I would agree that a few apples don’t spoil the whole bunch. I would say they should be cut off from all of government funding though, and should be straight non-profit, that way it would not even be an issue in regards to any links with any government administration or power tactics. NO group but a private census group that answers to an outside bi-partisan group like a gallop or Rasmussen Polling group should make up the census. Or a group of balanced non-profit organizations with absolutely no political biases or dealings in the PAST or Current.

The fact that this story is not being covered –in a front page, lead breaking story fashion is beyond disgusting. As Taxpayers, ALL Americans, Democrats, Republicans and Independents should stand up and demand a complete investigation into ACORN’s antics. The more of this story that comes out, the madder I get!

Whats more pathetic is Charlie Gibson saying he didn’t know anything about this, this just shows you how the networks are so behind the new administration and want to turn our nation into a marxist nation bordering on communism. My bigest questions is what are the networks going to get out of this?

Well,ABC/ Just Charles Gibson know now what ACORN IS?? Has he check any blogs on this organization? I cannot believe, a well informed man like Charles doesn’t know what ACORN is or what’s goinging on. I am so glad that at least ONE mainstream Broadcaster has the guts to probe and report on ACORN.. Have you seen the videos?? And when are you all going to probe the corruption on the HILL…???? Corruption not just in ACORN. SEIU/Dale Rathke or his brother Wade Rathke at ACORN it’s all connected. PROBE it. We the People have a right to know.
I think Mainstream televsion/abc/nbc/cbs should report such matters. the people are tired of the nonsense going on in washington.
thank you.

Even by ABCNews standards, this is astounding. Also: “Maybe that’s just one you leave to the cables.” Are you kidding me? The PRESIDENT’S former employer facilitates child prostitution, and ABCNews actively suppresses the story? Thank you for revealing the truly sad reality of the “news” business.
How sad.

I can’t believe Charlie Gibson thinks this story is just for the cables. I think it’s for the Attorney General. It figures California has the most outrageous undercover tape so far. When is GMA going to interview the Acorn workers who were fired??? When is ABC News going to mention they have been outdone by a 20 and 25 year old?

According to a June Gallup poll 31% of Americans call themselves as conservative, and 9% very conservative.
A new ABC/Washington Post poll from just a few days ago shows Obama’s favorability rating at 63%
But since you apparently don’t think highly of ABC, a July Fox poll showed his favorability rating at 62%. That’s the most recent favorability poll from Fox that I’m aware of.

Charley Gibson is not worth his salary if he has no idea what the ACORN undercover investigation is about and not “worth” his time to put on the program. Instead we get prepackaged nonsense about how Illinois people are doing with the 401k’s a year after.
ABC should speed up his “retirement”. I bet the White House is keeping a warm spot for Charley- maybe a press spokesman to replace the idiot the have now. He should fit right it with the spin.

I think it is time for the American taxpayer to petition their own “censures!” 1. “Censure the Congress for squanering” taxpayers dollars on corporations that should have been allowed to fail, Pelosi for accusing the CIA of lying, Frank & Dodd for the housing crisis, loss of taxpayer savings accounts because of lack of housing crisis, allowing tax cheats to continue to handle taxpayer funds, allowing taxpayer funds to be granted to organizations with oversight (ACORN) and Obama for lying about the illegals receiving healthcare along with the abortion issues! You are welcome to add your own ideas to this petition!

I do not tune it to ABC News, ever, but I was doing a search today on how many of the major news networks were covering the ACORN story…sad to to say- CNN, MSNBC, CBS have no mention of it at all. Kudos to ABC for mentioning it. I will never watch ABC News, but thanks for not being like the rest of them. I don’t watch Charlie Gibson, but it sounds to me like he might be a bit off his rocker!

“The stimulus has done a good job keeping unemployment down?” Based on the first CEA report, supported by the remaining respected economists, unemployment was projected to be over 1 million more than it is and the stimulus may have saved that many jobs. GDP, projected at -3.3 annualized at the third quarter is going to be at 2 or better.
Now, you and the rest of your wing nut friends put together facts and figures complete with stats and sound diagnositcs to disprove or rebut those numbers and people might listen to you. But all you, your brainless GOP leaders and the Joe Goebbels (Fox) propaganda machine can churn out are mindless sound bites, useless fiction with a little Malkin-Coulter mixed in for sour flavoring.

I am extremely disappointed in Charlie Gibson and ABC News in particular. I’m a loyal evening news viewer, but to totally avoid even mentioning the Senate vote of 83-7 to stop funding for ACORN and the unbelievable fact that you can cover stories like Dan Brown’s new book, racism, 401K’s and skip where our tax $$$ have been misused by this organization is not being a NEWS dept. I question my loyalty if important news isn’t covered whatsoever!

Why is it that something as important as a 501(c)3 charity, that gets Federal funds, promotes cheating on taxes and importing underage prostitutes does not get on every News program in the free world? I do not condem anyone, including the president, for the actions of this agency. Acorn stands alone in it’s misdeeds. What concerns me is that since some people DO associate Obama with this very corrupt organization, ABC, CBS, and NBC seem to be purposly ignoring and avoiding any kind of investigation about Acorn. Which leads to the next question…………WHY? If it is isolated to Acorn itself, why not get on the stick and do some digging? I am not a fan of Glen Beck, he’s too over the top for me, but if it weren’t for Beck, would we even know about any of this? If these two kids had taken their story to the MSM, would any of them have broadcast it?
I just get the feeling that our major networks have been compromised and we only get the news that makes it appear that everything is “okie dokey”
I like my news with facts, something we used to be able to depend on from the big three networks. Please don’t sweep anything that might tarnish one party under the rug, It just taints all of your news. It’s sad when I have to dig around ABC to find something about this story and in essence, they send me to Fox anyway to get the whole story. Dumb, dumb, sumb.

They share a building in New Orleans. I googled this! Seiu has a seat at the table for Healthcare. 63% FAVORABILITY rating, not APPROVAL rating. They are two different things. Favorability is a measure of his popularity, not his job performance.
And the ABC 63% favorability rating is from 3 days ago. Fox apparently hasn’t conducted a favorability poll since July.

Charlie – I used to admire your down-home, sincere style on Good Morning America and watched you for years. Then, with your move to World News I started to become disenchanted with your slant on the news rather than reporting news. I felt that your “talking down” to Sarah Palin during your interview showed a certain level of contempt on your part and left me very disappointed in you. Your remarks this morning about not being aware of the ACORN tapes and laughing and making a joke out of it was tasteless. I guess it is time for you to retire. In the meantime, I’d make a suggestion – have one of your underlings watch FOX news to see what’s really happening in America today so you can catch up. By the way, how many reports on Van Jones did you give before his resignation? And how much coverage did you give to this weekend’s March on Washington? Like others, I’ve given up on you representing the so-called “mainstream media” other than to see what the liberal point of view for the day is and am giving my allegiance to FOX. Sad to say, but I thought you were one of the nice guys and you’ve let me down!

The real shame is that this organization does get money to help the poor and disenfranchised, who will suffer by the loss of the housing funds. When there were questions about their actions last year in the elections, why wasn’t some organizational oversight conducted to make sure that they were operating in legal and ethical ways.
Please use this opportunity as a wake-up call for ACORN to thoroughly clean house and set new policies with teeth. Then reapply for funding.
Otherwise, ACORN executives and supporters can stonewall and shout “racism” and no one will win and people who need help will be abandoned.

ABC News is no longer a news operation. What a joke. Why would anyone watch your network if they wanted news? You’re almost ‘down’ to the level of NBC and MSNBC.
From little acorns mighty big news stories grown, except at what used to be the “MSM.” The old media is tired and just plain old; so out of touch with most of America. RIP.

Finally someone at ABC got off their collective posteriors and swithched channels on the TV to do some actual “journalistic research”.
What happened to the journalists of yesteryear that had pride integrity and a desire to uncover the stories out there that need to be told and exposed.
Sadly, most of the MSM journo’s work now adays seems to only consist of “opening their mouths and begging for the next sound bite and talking points” from the spin-doctors and swallowing them as unquestioning fact.
Bravo to the 2 new true investigative journalists out there James and Hannah.

Obama is a Joke.

Wow! Just Wow! I can’t believe the current state of journalism in this country. I agree that FOX News has a conservative slant, but Holy Cow! How can the other media outlets ignore this story if they aren’t in the back pockets of this administration? I’m a real, level-headed guy, a social moderate, volunteer worker and an activist against over-bearing government intrusion and policy in my community. I want to know what’s going on, especially with my tax dollars. I just don’t get it. Has CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS cozied up too much to the glitterati and Hollywood leftists so closely that they can’t even report news because they are too scared of scaring off potential “guests” on their talk shows. LIke I said earlier, “Wow!”

Hey good country loving people, what the hey?
Why are we stopping with prostitution and child sex trades … Let’s sneak into every run down ACORN office in this great god-loving nation and secretly tape and INTRODUCE such topics as Sderial killing, Grandma Beating, Child abducting, Taylor Swift slapping and puppy dog stomping. I bet you we could get one of these minimum wage ACORN evil world-destroying workers worked up enough to want to go outside and step on fido and kill him. Oh these ACORN workers, IF WE DONT ACT NOW, they are going to blow up our country by the end of the week. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: pete | September 16, 2009, 1:42 am 1:42 am

Lets really bring the hammer down on these ACORN terrorists.
I wish these minimum wage workers could be more like the bernie madoffs and wells fargo executives of the world, you know those good old fellas looking out for our best interest all the time … our true american heroes.

The story here is not about the voting to deny funds, fox news, the GOP, or even the predicable response from ACORN.
The story is the repeated efforts of ACORN employees to subvert the law and that we are funding this to the sum of $8.5B.
It is an embarrisment that ABC has not picked up on this story for days and it was broken by two young independent filmmakers.
Where has ABC been all while others were picking up on this story? There has been plenty of flags going off with ACORN election registration improprieties. It’s not like you can’t see this coming!

The main stream media will continue to lose viewers as they dismiss huge news stories for cable i.e. Fox News to cover while they arrogantly describe cable news in a fashion as though it were tabloid. I don’t believe anyone bought Charlie Gibson’s statement that he hadn’t heard of the recent ACORN scandal, and if it is even remotely true, what a sad state of journalism ABC “World News” has become. I’m guessing there too busy changing the sheets on the beds in the Whitehouse theses days to report the news if you know what I mean.. “I’m just saying” :-)

A day late and a dollar short. Even ABC’s Title for this story is misleading. At a quick read, makes you think ACORN received the funding because the words are so positive instead of written in the negative.
Poor ABC News, you still don’t understand the American people do you?

Is Charlie Incompetent or is ABC complicit ? John Lennon said “A conspiracy of silence speaks louder than words” and the ignoring of this story by ABC is speaking at a booming volume to Americans. The way they have chosen to release daily these videos has exposed the state controlled media’s MO and how they cover for anything not pro Obama. The meat of the story a willingness by Acorn office’s to assist the setting up of a government subsidized brothel for 12 to 15 year old illegal immigrant girls complete with tax gaming help still being ignored. The Obama connections downplayed. Acorn and SEIU colocated in the same building, run by the Rathke brothers, with connections to 60′s groups SDS and Bill Ayers. Video of Obama addressing SEIU and Acorn where he states thier agenda is his agenda and they will have a seat at the table to set it. SEIU writing healthcare legislation. An ABC continues finally acknowleges the story but covers Obam’s connections to these 2 mob run corrupt organizations. The people shouldn’t be presenting the news to ABC, ABC has a civic trust to present it to us. Maybe Charlie was just going over details of the Bush doctrine again, yeah that’s it.

Is this how we raised you? Don’t you have any morals or ethics left son? My heart is breaking cause you’ve sold your soul. You still have a chance to do the right thing and expose the top to bottom corruption, the ties to anarchist and mobs. Just pretend Bush is still President and Abramhoff is Acorn and the SEIU. I’m praying for you son.

Seven senators voted for ACORN – Illinois 2, Vermont 2, Pennsylvania, New Jork, & Rhode Island. None of the states are part of the US.

I try to be informed and watch/read several news sources. It is so blatantly obvious that the MSM no longer cares about even appearing to be objective. FOX (granted-right leaning)is the ONLY place to find both sides to a story, all facts available. I can then decide for myself. MSM doesn’t even report stories that oppose their viewpoint. It’s “us v. them” in every report. Disgusting.

CNN showed a reporter asking Wilson questions after his “You lie” outburst. Someone I was sitting with actually said “Why do they even give him a forum?” I couldn’t believe it! She is so used to seeing only her point of view on CNN (and others)that to even hear an opposing viewpoint offends her! I’ve had enough. MSM doesn’t realize how much they are motivating millions of people to object and stand up. I’m one of those millions and will be boycotting all advertisers to MSM that I can find! (CNN only showed the report to emphasize how stupid it was for him to speak out-a bad thing, I agree, but I do agree with his statement!) MSM only shows those who oppose them when they act badly (I agree, some do). MSM will not report the legitimate questions and facts others have if they don’t agree.

I simply cannot believe the level of vitriole that is present in most of these postings. Why not stop spewing nonsense and post some facts that support your point of view, or heaven forbid!, a reasoned argument. With this level of communication there is no hope for this country right or left.

Pete – You do realize that Bernie Madoff was a Democrat and contributed heavily to the left, don’t you? You also realize that the hierarchy at Wells Fargo also contributes more $$ to the left wing than to Republicans, don’t you???

Where by ‘just one you leave to the cables’, Gibson means ‘just one you leave to the professionals’.

Posted by: terrago | September 16, 2009, 10:04 pm 10:04 pm

Why is it that the mainstream media did not investigate Acorn at this level. Why is it that it took common citizens. This is exactly why I quit working as a journalist. I am disgusted with this country’s press.
This is just the tip of the iceberg.

ABC: Are you really goning to claim to report news. Ha Ha. After a week of ignoring this matter why bother get on the story now. Its nothing. Just a wild mob making up stories. Go back to to the whitehous now and cover up for the people in there. You are a disgrace to the millons who trusted you to be fair and honest. I hope you never recover from the hole you are diging for yourself.
