Vice President Biden Jokes to Iraqi Counterpart: “You can’t get rid of me”

ABC News’ Karen Travers reports: On his second day in Baghdad, Vice President Joe Biden met with several Iraqi political leaders as part of his effort to “resolve outstanding political issues” there before the January elections. Biden met with Iraqi Vice President Tariq al Hashimi and Vice President Adel Abdul – Mahdi  and joked with the latter about his frequent visits to Iraq. “You can’t get rid of me,” Biden said to Abdul-Mahdi, according to the pool reporter traveling with the vice president. “I keep coming back.” This is Biden’s third trip to Iraq this year. Biden came bearing gifts for his counterparts – crystal bowls engraved with his signature. Biden will take home with him a small golden statute of a palm tree, a gift from the Iraqis. Biden’s meetings with al Hashimi and Abdul-Mahdi took place at the Presidency Diwan, the complex where the Iraqi president and vice presidents conduct business. Biden is expected to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki later today.

I cannot believe the administration has put the guy who thought it was a great idea for Americans to forcibly segregate Iraq into 3 separate countries as the centerpiece of US policy in that country. Do they take Iraqis for a bunch of idjits?

Maybe they can keep him.
It might be interesting to have one of their politicos in exchange – guys who put their very lives on the line every day for the idea of democracy however flawed.

Biden’s plan still is the best solution. Wait to see what happens once we leave. It will break apart along nationality & religous lines anyway.

“It will break apart along nationality & religous lines anyway.”
Perhaps, but WE will not have done it. Every poll of Iraqis that has been taken since the war began shows that Iraqis overwhelmingly wish to remain a unified country. They may not get their wish, but let’s be sure our fingerprints are not all over that particular corpse.
