Limbaugh Unloads on Obama’s Nobel Prize

President Obama’s winning the Nobel Peace Prize may have been a surprise.  Rush Limbaugh’s reaction to it is anything but that.  One week after labeling the president’s Olympics defeat “the worst day” of the Obama presidency, Limbaugh unloads on the Nobel committee’s decision announced today.

My colleague Steven Portnoy of ABC News Radio sent over some of Rush’s highlights:

–“I don’t believe this!  He’s not only the first post-racial president, he’s also the nation’s first post-accomplishment president.  He has risen above incompetence.  He is now judged on wishful thinking.”

–“They love a weakened, neutered United States. This is their way of promoting the concept, and it’s a slam dunk.”

–“How can he now send 40,000 more troops to Afghanistan after that cotton candy speech he just gave this morning?”

- George Stephanopoulos

Hats off to the President, America is the shining star again.
But who was the competition?
Love the hate of the right wing.
Are they ever happy?

Remember when Bush said to the world “you are either with us or against us”
Well the world seems to be with Obama.
Not so much with Rush.

Uh, huh. And what kind of award has Limbuagh received? The prize for the most oxy-contin taken in one hour?

For once, I agree with Rush. Obama has been president for less than one year, and has only had a few meetings with world leaders…nothing worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize, anyway.

nobel prize is meaningless. it is only a political statement. obama has done nothing to deserve any praise by any one. the worst is yet to come.

Rush has never told anything like it is because you have to KNOW how it is it to tell it like it is. It is in Rush’s interest to keep things stirred up because it brings in more listeners which is why his dialogue is peppered with racial slurs and polemics and why he sneaks around with other people’s Viagra. If you are a true conservative, this man is doing you a great disservice by masquerading as your spokesman!

President Obama is working diligently to restore dignity and humility to the image of the United States. Rush Limbaugh is a mis-guided lunatic with a drug induced view of the world. Good will prevail even with all of the evil works being perpetrated by the fanatics of the Republican Party. Long reign the Democrats !!

Be it as it may, how can Obama continue his efforts with the war and sanctions on Iran? This prize was definitely a political stunt to thwart any defense of the US! The head of the committee even admitted that it wasn’t awarded as an accomplishment but merely as “encouragement” to maintain peace. Newsflash: WE are not the aggressors in terrorism. How many billions of dollars do we sent to poor countries to help them? How many countries have we gone to their aid to protect them from aggressors? The US has been an outstanding country with keeping peace internationally, and it irritates me that liberals think of our country in such a derogatory way. Shame on all of you. I am proud of our country.

Posted by: Legalette | October 9, 2009, 1:36 pm 1:36 pm

This is a big international joke. You don’t give an award to someone before their actual accomplishment.
This comes off as some sort of bribe…will it affect Obama’s policy in Afghanistan?

Posted by: countrygirl_74 | October 9, 2009, 1:41 pm 1:41 pm

the peace prize is no reflection as to what the world thinks of the US. from wikipedia, the Peace Prize should be awarded “to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.” What has obama done that even resembles anything in this sentence? Must have been that 10,000 extra troops sent to Afghanistan. The only thing obama has done to deserve this prize is to destroy the US economy and cut the defense budget.

Posted by: robin | October 9, 2009, 1:41 pm 1:41 pm

Like we didn’t see limpberger’s “comments” coming! He and all his loser congregation are going to have to accept the fact that President Obama got the prize…… after they accept he won the presidency! Congrats President Obama!!!

The Republicans are experiencing shock and awe. And I sympathize.
First, god puts your oil under other countries’ land.
Next, god allows a Black man to become President. And just as you were about to bring back slavery as the next logical step in your Capitalism paradise.
Finally, the rest of the world ignores Rush! And wants the US to have universal health care just like all the rest of the civilized world!!!
Why won’t god protect you? Isn’t he Republican? At least he is an NRA member, right? Right? Answer me, god. I demand you answer me.

The world just wants us to be as weak and liberal as they are. This is a terrible moment for American History. Rush Limbaugh loves this country and what it should be like. I am so thankful for his insight. This administration is taking us down and so is NATO, UN and the Nobel Peace Prize committee. I really want to be proud of my country…but Obama is taking all of that away from me. God Bless our Troups!

I guess the Nobel committee doesn’t listen to Mr. Limbaugh. And frankly neither do I. I’m sure him and his followers are ready to bust wide open with their hate and rhetoric. I on the other hand have been doing a happy dance with a smile on my face since 5:00 a.m. Go president Obama. Show the world that America isn’t the hate filled arrogant nation that we were over the last 8 years. We are evolving. They are disolving.

I have had enough of the lies and I had eneough when he apologised that we are an arrogant nation. No wwe are not, We are WORLD saviors and we are a nation who never gets paid back. This really isn’t an award for Obama. It’s an award to the citizens of the US for electing Obama over the “bomb bomb bomb, bomb bom Iran” guy. But, since they can’t give the award to the American people as a whole, they had it to the president.

Posted by: Patwx | October 9, 2009, 2:00 pm 2:00 pm

The Obama haters are absolutely apoplectic about his receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. Good, I love it! They are haters and always will be. Even if Obama accomplishes everything he has elected to do, and continues to restore America to the standards for which it has been revered over the years (until Bush and Cheney destroyed it) they will continue to hate him because they are just — haters. You Go, President Obama, you have made us proud and will continue to do so. God Bless You and the U.S.A.!!

Rush Limbaugh has no credibility. Those who listen to him have no taste. Those who buy into what he says are weak-minded and gullible. Limbaugh is nothing more than a stain on the airwaves. His followers are an example of herd mentality, the non-thinking, emotionally-driven right that must be babysat and kept in check by their intellectually superior counterparts.

The Nobel Prize didn’t seem to be that NOBEL anymore. It looked like a joke.
Awarding someone didn’t influence or do anything equals to promoting empty promise, empty hope, empty change.
Too bad I like Obama but I don’t like the way the NPC handling the issue.

Posted by: jan | October 9, 2009, 2:13 pm 2:13 pm

This is one of the very few times I have come close to agreeing with the views of Limbaugh. Obama may not have accomplished much specifically in nine months in office, but few other presidents did either. The Nobel is premature at best.

Apparently, the Nobel peace prize is a joke. Obama does not have any accomplishments yet. I guess they voted on “Hope & Change”. Like Rush or not, I don’t think many people will ever take this award seriously again. It was already of questionable value, but now it looks just plain ridiculous.

Posted by: USAcitizen | October 9, 2009, 2:18 pm 2:18 pm

Has it occurred to any of you that maybe other countries are happy that we have a “weak” president? Would it be great if we could all get along, absolutely. Will it ever happen. No. The looney tunes out there in the world will never engage with this President. They will only mock him.
What wins games? Defense. To start toning it down weakens our nation and the world is salivating.
And Patwx won’t you be laughed at when Obama does have to bomb bomb bomb, bomb bom Iran. It will be sort of ironic.

Jim Rod | Oct 9, 2009 1:52:18 PM: I encourage you to read “Three Cups of Tea” by Greg Mortenson. This man developed successful techniques for fighting war in Afghanistan that are being adopted by the US military today – building schools, repairing wells, rebuilding the power of a civil society to counteract extremism.
Yes, the US has a history of helping all over the globe, but that world is changing as our population marches to 9 Billion. And where in heavens name did you get the idea that Obama will be promoting a bill to “give terrorists aide”. Stop listening to those who preach fear for profit – look at the positive evolution in technology and military strategies since the 1800s. Change can be beneficial.

There are a number of fun quotes out there – both liberal and conservative – check these out:
The Times of London: “Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent. It was clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration, approval for the election of America’s first black president and hope that Washington will honour its promise to re-engage with the world. Instead, the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace.”
Mark Halperin: “Obama has been in office less than a year, and has few tangible accomplishments deriving from the speeches he has given or the preliminary talks his young government has engaged in. And the award comes at a time in which Obama’s role as a war president—in Afghanistan—is front and center. It isn’t quite as inexplicable as Marisa Tomei’s Best Supporting Actress Oscar, but it seems pretty close.”
Vox Day: “What on Earth can they possibly be thinking? The man hasn’t even ended the two military occupations he promised to end!”
Fred Thompson: “Shouldn’t the Nobel Peace Prize have a higher bar than high expectations?”
Peter Beinart: “I like Barack Obama as much as the next liberal, but this is a farce. He’s done nothing to deserve the prize. Sure, he’s given some lovely speeches and launched some initiatives—on Iran, Israeli-Palestinian peace, climate change and nuclear disarmament—that might, if he’s really lucky and really good, make the world a more safe, more just, more peaceful world. But there’s absolutely no way to know if he’ll succeed, and by giving him the Nobel Prize as a kind of “atta boy,” the Nobel Committee is actually just highlighting the gap that conservatives have long highlighted: between Obamamania as global hype and Obama’s actual accomplishments.”
Andrew Sullivan: “If any person has done more to advance some measure of calm, reason and peace in this troubled word lately, it’s president Obama. I think the Cairo speech and the Wright speech alone merited this both bridging ancient rifts even while they remain, of course, deep and intractable.”
Nicholas Kristof: “I admire his efforts toward Middle East peace, but the prize still seems very premature. What has he done? . . . [I]t seems to me that it might have made sense to wait and give Obama the Nobel Peace Prize in his eighth year in office, after he has actually made peace somewhere.”
Emanuele Ottolenghi: “If President Obama gets the Nobel Peace Prize less than one year into his presidency, what can he aspire to by the time he leaves office? If fate allows it, the seat of St Peter will be vacant — and if not, we are sure the pope will graciously resign. Short of that, one can always count on the UN secretary-general’s post to be on offer.”
Daniel Pipes: “My prediction: The absurdity of the prize decision will harm Obama politically in the United States, contrasting his role as international celebrity with his record devoid of accomplishments”
Frank J: “And for the record, this makes a mockery of the prize. There is no way Obama has had time to accomplish as much peace as Arafat did.”

@LarrySabato Republicans have a legitimate beef about Nobel Peace Prize committee. Gore, Carter, now Obama…there’s a pattern here any idiot can see.

Posted by: SjB | October 9, 2009, 3:00 pm 3:00 pm

I think this can only hurt Obama. I’ve never been a fan of the President, but I’m also a rabid hater of Rush and his rantings. But looking at this I see a big problem looming.
Teddy Roosevelt said America’s foreign policy should be to speak softly and carry a big stick
Bush spoke loudly and brandished the stick often, but now Obama is making the same mistake in opposite; he’s putting the stick down and trying to hug everyone. The enemies we have in this world will NOT respect a leader who wants to be best buds with everyone because they’re ideologists, and america is the embodiment of everything they hate.
THAT is where we need the stick.
If America loses Afganistan and we’re responsible for EVERY DROP OF BLOOD SPILLED from that point onward, and if we think now is bad, we’re talking teaspoons to rivers.
If Obama is influenced by this prize to not listen to his commanders on the ground and to deny them more troops then it will all fall.
Of course, he could use the prestige of this prize to influence other nations to help in Afganistan, get Russia and China on board for Economic sanctions on Iran, and smash the Taliban and other terrorist-funding organizations, therefore stabalizing the world and bringing about a new era in global politics and economics.
I may not like the guy, but if he succeeds then my nation is better off, so It’s pretty obvious who I’m rooting for here. I’m not going to take the Rush approach (which is exactly the same as the Liberal Anti-Bush approach mind you) and try to destroy the figurehead just because he doesn’t do things my way.
Rush, he’s the friggan president, how about suggesting how he can do better rather then ranting about what he does wrong (according to you)

So, will Obama, fresh from being given the Nobel PEACE Prize, now be able to send more troops to Afghanistan, dangle the threat of military action against Iran for their nuclear bomb-building efforts, or attack terrorism in a forceful way? This award was the Nobel committees way of trying to influence the political affairs of our country. To this point, Obama has done nothing more than talk. Apparently, to the Nobel committee, words matter more than deeds.

Posted by: bkm | October 9, 2009, 3:06 pm 3:06 pm

to JCKnows…..the competition were two Chinese dissidents…Mr Hu Jia, serving 3.5 year prison term for subversion, and Mr. Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in jail. I am glad an American won, but at least give it to someone who has accomplished something. He does not deserve this and he even admitted that himself. I have never seen someone obtain so much with so little substance. To be President and win this prize should require more than a good speech. Obama said this is a “Call to Action” Wrong Mr. President! This award should be decided on “Past Actions” and Obama has nothing.

Posted by: batesba74 | October 9, 2009, 3:33 pm 3:33 pm

This award to Obama is nothing more than a “stamp of approval” on Obama leading the USA into socialism. Lenin said socialism cannot exist if it is in just one country or continent. Therefore..this is simply leveling the playing field of the USA so it can become a socialist country…and everyone is on an even playing field.(example: no free society where one can come up with an idea and make as much as they want) Once we have that level playing field..the Messiah can then run for the position of Dictator of the Socialist World…kiss what little freedoms we have left goodbye and soon!

Ok, has an independent, I’m the first to say Bush was a fool, but this is the worst thing that could happen to obama. It takes away ANY credibility he might have gained among his critics. Their biggest criticism was that the press ushered him into the presidency, that they handed it to him…and handing him the nobel prize without him earning it only validates this view.
IF HE’S SMART (and I think he is) he’ll TURN DOWN THE AWARD…to his critics,AND EVEN MANY OTHERS (INCLUDING ME) it’s got “AFFIRMATIVE ACTION” written all over it.

The prize is not always awarded to those with a record but sometimes its given to reward and encourage those people that are trying to acheive great things.
You would know that if you bothered to educate yourself about the Nobel prize. But hey, you already know everything so why should you bother to learn anything?

Those of us who are Fighting for our very freedoms and liberty that this country was bestowed with (and for which YOU also enjoy), are now called the “haters” of America. You naturally, any opposition is labeled as racist, fascist, Nazi, and etc. Fascinating. The destruction of our country is happening right before YOUR eyes and you applaud it! You actually are delighted the country is failing and bankrupt. (I’m still waiting for a leftist, Marxist idiot to explain the “propsperity” of liberal economics? High taxes, high unemployment, and outright govt. control is hardly a recipe for success). This country is being “knee-capped” by our first U.S. dictator; punishment for 230+ years of unsurpassed prosperity and freedom. The only nation in the world which such distinction; and YOU guys on the Left despise, ridicule, and disparge that standing!! Just “who’s” side are you guys on??? I’m not a democrat, I’m not a republican, I’m an independent voter. I congratulate President Obama for humbly accepting the Nobel prize he’s been awarded and I believe he is worthy of it because he has diligently worked, with his high level of diplomacy, in repairing the image the world had of the EEUU, after the damage the arrogant republican administration took 8 years to do. It’s a shame the skeptics can’t appreciate the president for what he is: a brilliant, gutsy, multitasker that will bring good things to our country.

Seems to me that I never (or very rarely) hear the “right” or conservatives calling the “left” or liberals haters or other names. We disagree, so that makes us stupid, astro-turfers, haters, dumb, idiots, etc. to the left. Wow, didn’t know they had no idea how to have a thought of their own other than the hate they spew! What you don’t realize is that names will never hurt us!! You’re wasting your time on these blogs because you don’t have your own thoughts, you just degrade ours. Get a life, start reading things, listen to BOTH sides for a change, and you may be able to make an INFORMED decision before you die. The left OR the right are never always correct. We used to be able to disagree without your hateful mouths…now it’s YOU who are dividing the nation. The media started it with the RED or BLUE states…how stupid was that. Before long, there will be another civil (political) war in this country…it’s already started. Thanks Obama…for that. You won, you and your czars, Pelosi, Biden wanted to bring America down for the muslims, and you’ve done a fine job!!!

I don’t care about Rush or Beck or any of the public nay-sayers. Yet, what has the man accomplished? He has seemingly turned on Israel and is soft on terrorists. I guess our president thinks more of the rest of the world than of our own security or our constitutional matters. He loves the limelight of what others say of him. Narcissist you say?

Obama should decline this award due to the following reasons 1. We are still in Iraq. 2. We still have the exact same wire tapping policy you Liberals protested under Bush. 3. Gitmo is still open. 4. Afghanistan is more Dangerous today than any time during the Bush Presidency. He should follow the example set by Le Duc Tho who declined the 1973 Peace Prize—jointly awarded to him and Henry Kissinger—because it was awarded to them even though Vietnam was not yet at peace.

Posted by: batesba74 | October 9, 2009, 4:31 pm 4:31 pm

President Obama inherited a government in crisis, a military greatly over-extended, and an almost non-existent and incoherent foreign policy. In the last few months, he has, as noted by the Nobel committee, established a positive working environment in the international community, while trying to get a grip on the mess that Bush, et al, created. And he’s faced with an opposition party without ideas, but with animosity toward all things it has not initiated. He can’t clean it up in a few months, or even in one term. But, he can give us hope that things are changing for the better. He is striving for peace in the world, and has a lot to accomplish. It’s a big task, but a worthy one.

“The destruction of our country is happening right before YOUR eyes and you applaud it!”
And who applauded and cheered when the US lost the Olympic bid? The right-wing because whatever’s bad for America is good for them, or so they think.
“I’m still waiting for a leftist, Marxist idiot to explain the “propsperity” of liberal economics?”
And I’m still waiting to see the benefits to the middle-class from “trickle-down”. And I’m waiting to see the recovery from an out-of-control financial market who burned down the country while the Bush Admin. fiddled.
“High taxes, high unemployment, and outright govt. control is hardly a recipe for success.”
Econmic data is cherry-picked by both sides – whatever is bad is the President’s fault while whatever is good is despite the President.
“This country is being “knee-capped” by our first U.S. dictator…”
Geez, now you’re just plain lying. There’s was an election, remember? An honest-to-God election without a court having to decide who won. Your side lost and now you feel justified in whatever crazy claims you want to make. That’s an example of being a bad American citizen.
“Just “who’s” side are you guys on??? (it sure as hell ain’t ours)…”
And just who do you mean by “ours”? Are you referring to the losers of the last election? I’m on the side of the American people, but sadly, the opposition has decided that it’s better to cheer America’s failures and spit at winning party.
“Obama is the best friend Osama bin Laden could ever have. He’s doing his dirty work for him!!”
Well, that famous radical pacifist Commie President Shimon Peres of Isreal disagrees with you:
“Very few leaders if at all were able to change the mood of the entire world in such a short while with such a profound impact. You provided the entire humanity with fresh hope, with intellectual determination, and a feeling that there is a lord in heaven and believers on earth.”
Geez, those Isrealis are always electing lovers of terrorism, aren’t they?

Geez, do any of you ever bother to read what other people have posted BEFORE shooting your mouth off? But why should you when you already know everything, right?
Well, let me repeat….
Those of you who are complaining that the Nobel Peace Prize went to Obama despite a lack of big accomplishments are showing your ingnorace.
The prize is not always awarded to those with a record but sometimes its given to reward and encourage those people that are trying to acheive great things.
You would know that if you bothered to educate yourself about the Nobel prize BEFORE shooting your mouth off.

Simple question for anyone on the left:
What has President Obama actually DONE to deserve this award?
Note that any personal attacks or comparisons to Bush will disqualify your answer. Thank you.

Posted by: Open-Mind | October 9, 2009, 5:15 pm 5:15 pm

The problem with the right is that they have such narrow vision – have they not recognized what the image of our country was during the bush admin? You have to look at President Obama and the receipt of this award from a world view, not a domestic one. This is a recognition of the rebirth, leadership and admiration of the United States. I’m proud of my President and my country and of about 80% of it’s inhabitants. The other 20% – known as the republican base – are throwing juvenile temper tantrums.

They don’t give a laudry list of details, but if I had to guess I would say that they probably had in mind his speech before the election on race in America. After the nomination I’m sure they took note of his speech in Cairo, which I’m sure you’re familiar with, right?
“Just as Muslims do not fit a crude stereotype, America is not the crude stereotype of a self-interested empire.”
He said that Jerusalem should be a “secure and lasting home for Jews and Christians and Muslims …”
“There is so much fear, so much mistrust. But if we choose to be bound by the past, we will never move forward.”
Gee, with that last quote its almost like he was talking about America and not just the Middle East.

Posted by: OB-Wan222 | October 9, 2009, 5:50 pm 5:50 pm

“The attacks of September 11th, 2001 and the continued efforts of these extremists to engage in violence against civilians has led some in my country to view Islam as inevitably hostile not only to America and Western countries, but also to human rights. This has bred more fear and mistrust.
So long as our relationship is defined by our differences, we will empower those who sow hatred rather than peace, and who promote conflict rather than the cooperation that can help all of our people achieve justice and prosperity. This cycle of suspicion and discord must end.
I have come here to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world; one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect; and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive, and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles – principles of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.”

Obama admits that he doesn’t deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.
How could he?
He is in charge of waging two simultaneous wars, and he is still asking other nations to send troops to Afghanistan to fight there.
On top of all this, Obama is planning to send tens of thousands of more U.S. troops to fight in Afghanistan.
Peace Prize?
It really should be a prize for furthering the use of Alfred Nobel’s weapons of war.

Posted by: Hegel | October 9, 2009, 6:51 pm 6:51 pm

I do not hate Obama, but to say he deserved the Nobel Prize for Peace is wrong. Bush did more for peace than Obama has.
No wonder Obama has been stalling in sending extra troops to the war effort in Afghanistan. If he had he may have missed out on the prize. I am worried.

Enjoyed the Rush reactions. I would have been disappointed if he hadn’t spouted off his unhappiness that President Obama received the peace award. All Rush’s idols won was a world that was backing off from the United States. I hope the Nobel people’s throwing the doors wide open to Mr. Obama are a prelude to our getting back to a willingness to be a true world leader.

Since he felt so unworthy to receive the award, but still intends to accept it, how about he use the prize money to pay for the trip instead of donating it to charity? Right now, the United States of America’s economy is a massive charity case. Don’t use tax money to pay for a trip to receive a personal award.

Posted by: terry | October 10, 2009, 12:27 am 12:27 am

At what point does the Nobel prize loose its relevance? I’m happy for the President that he received it. It seems though that it is more for the anticipation and expectations of all who have put allot of hope in him rather than what he has or can tangibly and realistically accomplish. This in itself is worthy of a Nobel prize. He is the inspiration for many to move to action and do something about their own hopes and desires. The only problem is that some of what people are motivated to do is misguided, unrealistic, or will have a debilitating affect on the economy and society in general. I am hopeful that the best and truly helpful will prevail as some are challenged think and rethink their old and new perceptions of the reality they live in.

As they say “even a blind hog will find an acorn once in a while”. If the president can look straight in the mirror and say “I truly deserve this award” then he should keep it, otherwise he should hold a special presentation and give the award to one of the other 100 nominees who have really accomplished something. As a matter of fact the president of France has done more to deserve this award negotiating a cease fire between Hamas and Israel a year ago.

It is not about how the International community looks upon the US. Obama has apologized and bowed before others showing a willingness to submit Americans to the wishes of others.
Under Obama we are losing friends fast. Eastern Bloc countries are concerned, Israel is worried and Iraq wonders if we will leave them to the wolves.
But we have replaced those unneeded countries with the likes of North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, Libya and others.
The prize was a joke and they gave it to him because they felt bad that he lost the Olympics for Chicago and America.

As usual, on the rare occasions when Rush is correct, he fails to use rational logic or facts to support his position. (plenty available on this issue)
Just like his rant against the H1N1 vaccinces, the only logic is, “liberals are behind it so I am against it”.
Not that this is necessarily bad. Since his audience is working with one lobe of their brain tied behind their back, and Fox News can’t do it all, Rush provides a public service by telling them what to think.
It is however, very unsettling to live in a world where Rush Limbaugh is right about anything.

Limbaugh is a $60 million dollar a year bag of wind that keeps me entertained on a long Harley Ride. Obama brought government back to the people. He is the first president to step up to the plat and help the American middle class. He will go down as the best President since George Washington. ALL US who cannot afford the $1,800.00 per month health care cost back our President on Health Care. Give us the $525.00 annual premium like Washington receives. Problem will be resolved if you would have a National Health Plan like National Flood Insurance.

Bad news Jim. Under Bush we were extremely arrogant. “You’re either with us or with the terrorists”. Remember that. That is about as arrogant as it gets.
Yes, we do help a great deal of people BUT it is also very arrogant of you to believe that our government is perfect and incapable of making mistakes. You really have to close your eyes very tightly to believe that! And also, a number of the actions our government has done to other nations IS why 9/11 happened. The Peace Prize is often given for symbolic reasons, not just for accomplishments. Desmond Tutu got it while in jail during Apartheid. Woodrow Wilson got it for the League of Nations, which failed. Limbaugh doesn’t know or care about the Nobel Peace Prize. His animating cause is his hatred of Barack Obama. Some months ago, with the president’s go-ahead, Navy seals shot and killed two hijackers of an American ship. Limbaugh was up in arms against it. “Two scared teenagers just trying to get home,” was how he painted the criminals holding guns to the head of the ship’s captain. Since Limbaugh is a constant, he can be dropped from the equation.

I believe the economy began crashing during Bush’s last term in office just before Obama took office. How short your memory is when you hate. I’ve known the economy was going south for about five to six years now. And I know its going to take at least that long to turn it around and get it going again. I’m what’s known as a realist! I know its not going to be fixed in an instant. It’s an economy. Things done this quarter to fix it won’t show up until next quarter or the quarter after that. Obama hasn’t even been in office for three quarters yet and you’re expecting instant results. Grow up!

I agree with Rep. Grayson. If President Obama eats a BLT for lunch, the Republicans will try to outlaw Bacon.
The GOP is the party of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. Their negativity shows a desire to make political points whether or not it is good for the nation. That’s why they cheered when we lost the Olympics bid and why they throw mud when a U.S. president(who didn’t seek it) is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Rush: your hate and distortions make me sick. The world needs people who love not hate so you do not fit in. This award was given for the hope he gave to the countries that someone in the United States cares and is willing to work with them to achieve peace. He has achieved much by just getting Isral and Palestine to talk and shake hands. We have not had that kind of a leader in a long time. While you are condemning our President for the things he does, just remember that Bush did NOTHING for 8 years to prevent this economy from crashing. It started long before Obama. It cannot and will not be fixed in 9 months. Remember, it was Bush who wanted to give the banks the money when Obama and Mc Cain did not but they supported our president as that is what good Americans do. Did Bush address health care, job losses, mortgage failures, the banks, no,no,no and no. Why is it that you choose to single out this president who is trying and will get a health care bill even without the support of the republicans. I have been a republican for many years and do not recognize the party anymore. So much hate and bitterness and not much else. I was disappointed that we did not fix things when we had the chance. To just say we messed up is not the answer. We need to work together because that is what America is all about. We are all Americans, Democrats, Republicans and Independents and to put this wide divide between our people is wrong and not productive. President Obama has achieved much in his short time and he was the first president to speak in countries where others would not go. I am proud of him and this award and yes, he does deserve it. You deserve soap in your mouth.

The Nobel Peace Prize used to mean something. Obama was nominated for it only 11 days into his presidency (the nominations had to be in by Feb. 1). What has he done to deserve it? Nothing other than making me ashamed that he’s the Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces, since just after he took office he decided to go on a trip to Europe and “APOLOGIZE FOR BEING AN AMERICAN!”, he’s increased the national debt to the highest it has EVER been, none of his campaign promises have come true, he’s a liar (read and listen to what he said he would do if elected), he put a known racist as the top lawyer in this country, and he wants the US to become a socialist country. Maybe there should be an investigation into how much the Nobel committee was paid in bribes to give this award to him.

Rush Limbaugh is a hate monger whose lack of patriotism is a glaring indicator of the type of American he is. The President of the United States, the country Limbaugh is a citizen of, has won a Nobel prize and Rush is against it? Rush does not want our nation’s leader to be seen as a great man?
Rush, what are you for? Dirty water? Child molestation? Fatter talk show hosts? More pollution and war?
That this kind of hate mongering nay-sayer gets any airtime at all should make true Americans shut off the radio and tv when they hear his voice.

This jerk has absolutely no reason to comment… he is without a doubt the most crass, loudmouth piece of garbage that has walked this earth… Why anyone gives a crap what he says is beyond me. He is just jealous that his nemesis has been recognized for his peace making efforts. While everyone may not agree on Obama’s accomplishments to date, you cannot deny that he is making ever effort possible to mend the damage that Bush did internationally, and at home he wants to ensure that ALL citizens (not just those that are lucky enough to be insured) are offered health care. A nice turn around from a nation that does not care for its poor. Not all of us are fortunate, or have employers that contribute to insurance costs.

Rush Limbaugh is a gasbag. Those of us who cringe at he sound of his voice let alone the sight of his face are people who think for ourselves. It is a sorry day when you read that the fact your president is being honored for trying to work out world problems in a cooperative way is being vilified and represented as a call to weakness. Any real citizen should be proud and happy for him, even those who think it may be a premature honor. Then again, when you bluntly wish for the president to fail (bringing the whole country along with him) for ideological rather than logical reasons, what can one expect. Mother Teresa was lucky not being an american, Rush would have scolded her for giving and not selling food to the needy, thus undermining free market.

The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded, sometimes for the inspiration of hope to a great multitude of people. That’s why MLK received it. His dream was not yet fulfilled when he was awarded the prize, nor upon his untimely death, remember. Hope is intangible, Rom 8:24-25 24)….but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? 25)But if we hope for what we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. Our president, our American president, inspired the world to hope (trust), that our president would lead in the restoration of global relationships. Well deserved to those who understand! For the rest of you, maybe you’ll get it later. Keep hope alive, though…LOL!

It was way too early for President Obama to receive such a prize. He really hasn’t been in office all that long. They didn’t have any other worthy candidates? On the other hand, Rush Limbaugh just spews useless venom and negativity. He would never have the guts to run for office himself nor the desire for selfless public service and putting so much on the line. For him, it’s about stirring up controversy, making the ratings and raking in millions. It’s just like what so many actors and actresses discover when they read critical reviews. The people doing the criticizing don’t have the talent, intelligence or courage to make a difference. All they can do is criticize — they really have nothing of substance to offer.

One thing we fell to realize as a United people. The president of the United States is our president. Differences aside, when it is us getting honored we should accept it as honoring our country. It saddens me however to see that we are so full of hate, prejudice, and divide that we are displaying to the world our true identity as a country just as we did during the sixties when a state was fire hosing and sicking dogs on people just because as citizens they wanted to vote. Good job my divided Americans.

If Obama thinks that he can make peace with Al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations and rogue states in the world, then he should accept the Nobel Peace Prize. But if he intends to fight global terrorism, then he should decline the prize. That would make Obama the second person in history to do so. (The first one was Le Duc Tho in 1973).

For those who have forgotten their history, our Nation was formed by foreigners is why the day is celebrated Thanksgiving. Here are gathered all sorts of religions and created a single nation. They fought together against foreign attack to the end. Blacks and whites gave their blood. That’s why we prevail as a nation. They talk about Gandhi, Kissinger and others who brought a message of peace to the world but our Nation had never been in such danger as it has now. Those who have served the nation as military can give knowledge of this. Obama has been able to counteract the danger that lurks behind the fog, leaving the road and offering his hand to those nations as we want to get ahead of their miseries. I believe in globalization and therefore ami apludo Commander Obama. No matter who I am going to support him. If the peace holds continue giving my 100% support no matter how conservative, Republican and Nationalist and a little Socialist because America is a Republic. I keep a Purple Heart and the man I love is in danger of death because they fight for freedom you both acclaim. Why not lend a hand so that our nation will prevail in peace and harmony with other nations? Only living criticizing and are not able to put his hat on somebody else! Let’s go back to the campaign of 2008. If you remember the GOP was taking turns at ridiculing both Obama’s race (Limbaugh called him a Halfrican) and his funny name – rather unaware that Hussein and Barack are two of the most common names in the Islamic world.
Let’s remember the GOP’s pledge to “bomb Iran” and to go to war not only in Iran, but also in Georgia, North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela. Let’s remember GOP columnist Ann Coulter’s solution to Middle East problems. Basically bomb their cities, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.
Let’s remember the lynch mob atmosphere of fear, greed, hatred, and ignorance that Sarah Palin stirred up every time she made an appearance.
And let’s remember the carnage of the Iraq war, a war Bush started simply because Halliburton wanted control of Iraq’s oil and because Bush wanted to be known as a wartime President. And let’s also remember that the GOP to this day refuses to acknowledge that global climate change exists, and has absolutely no response to what will ultimately be the most serious threat to the survival of humanity.
In spite of a 24/7 fear and smear campaign waged not only by the GOP, but also by most of the media, Barack Obama stood up against this toxic atmosphere and declared a new beginning for the world. And the right wing has the nerve to say that Barack Obama hasn’t done anything.
Haters.
That’s the term that comes to my mind. As a retired teacher who spent a life time teaching in an inner city high school in south Los Angeles, I know them when I see them.
If you are unfamiliar with the inner city, haters is the word. my students used it to describe a clique of students, usually girls, who refused to accomplish anything productive, and instead spent their energies bad-mouthing students who tried to make something out of their lives.
I also saw the same mentality behind a bumper I saw one day which said “MY KID BEAT UP YOUR HONOR STUDENT.” Recently an honor student in Chicago was beaten to death by a gang of thugs. That tragedy is NOT new. Killing like that have occurred in Los Angeles on a regular basis, and one of the reasons I rarely left my classroom was to provide a safe haven for students during the school day.
So all the hatred and animosity that the GOP and the right wing spews simply proves that they are no better than the thugs and know-nothings back at my former school.
Let’s consider Obama’s own reaction to receiving the Peace Prize
´I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations.”
AND
“We can’t accept a world in which more people are denied opportunity and dignity that all people yearn for — the ability to get an education and make a decent living; the security that you won’t have to live in fear of disease or violence without hope for the future.”
AND
“This award is not simply about the efforts of my administration — it’s about the courageous efforts of people around the world.
And that’s why this award must be shared with everyone who strives for justice and dignity — for the young woman who marches silently in the streets on behalf of her right to be heard even in the face of beatings and bullets; for the leader imprisoned in her own home because she refuses to abandon her commitment to democracy; for the soldier who sacrificed through tour after tour of duty on behalf of someone half a world away; and for all those men and women across the world who sacrifice their safety and their freedom and sometime their lives for the cause of peace.”
You will never find such quality of leadership in the GOP, Wall Street, and certainly NOT in the media. And you certainly did not see these words coming out of the mouth of President Bush who started a war so he could be called a war president, and who expected streets, public squares and cities to be renamed in his honor.
Obama made it clear that the Nobel Peace Prize was not his prize but a prize for the American people. The gang of GOP, right-wing haters who are no on the attack don’t hate Obama – they hate America. Like the ignorant, indolent adolescents I described, they have not positive vision for themselves or for America, and they cannot stand to America transcend the gutter if ignorance, violence, hatred, and fear that they themselves inhabit. Just like the Taliban, they want to see America fail.

Patriot. One who loves and defends his country. Regardless of your views about Rush. He is a patriot. I happen to agree with most of his views. Not because I am a robot, but because it was how I was brought up and my own value system. There are a lot of things that are happening in this country now that I DO NOT agree with…and the current administration is doing a lot of things that are threatening the american way of life as we know it. And, yes we have made mistakes as a country…but we (America) is still the hope and beacon for freedom in this world. Millions seek to come here for that reason…Until we as Americans all start to understand the exceptional country that America is to rest of the world, we will not be united. There are countries that are jealous of our society… and they seek to make US like them …so the playing field is leveled. Rush understands that, and so do many in this nation. However, the “one world” view does not encourage exceptionalism. It is time to wake up America and begin to see why these subtle things happen and the implications behind them…How can anyone be proud of receiving the Nobel Peace Prize anymore??? I mean Yassir Arafat??? A supporter of terrorism??
It is all done to influence political decisions…and therefore, insidious in its intent.
Drop your pre-conceived notions and really listen to Rush…your world view will change for the better.

Rush Hudson Limbaugh III (pronounced /ˈlɪmbɔː/; born January 12, 1951) is an American radio host and conservative political commentator. Limbaugh rose to prominence during the 1990s as host of a nationally-syndicated talk-radio show, The Rush Limbaugh Show. A frank advocate of conservatism, Limbaugh attracts a large audience and is regarded as one of the most influential talk show personalities in the United States.[citation needed]
Limbaugh was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. His family has a long history in Republican politics, including several members who were judges. When Limbaugh was 16 years old he began working at a local radio station. After attending Southeast Missouri State University for a year he dropped out of college. In the early 1970s, Limbaugh moved to Pennsylvania to work as a radio disc jockey, using the alias Jeff Christie on the air. In 1984, Limbaugh began working as a talk show host in Sacramento, California. His distinctively styled program featured no guests, relying exclusively on his emblem of conservative political analysis. In 1988, Limbaugh moved to New York City and began national broadcast of The Rush Limbaugh Show on WABC radio. His three-hour program made Limbaugh well-known.
In the 1990s Limbaugh’s fame grew beyond radio and into other media, such as publishing and television. He became a bestselling author with his books The Way Things Ought to Be (1992) and See, I Told You So (1993). From 1992 to 1996 Limbaugh hosted a half-hour television talk show. Limbaugh frequently accuses the American mainstream media of having a strong liberal bias.

What I don’t understand is why anyone gives Rush the time of day. He is a pill popping egomaniac and his ego is as large as his body. He is cruel to people and a racist and he can deny that all he wants. He was asked to leave a sports broadcasting show because of his racist comments so why is there any doubt he is a nut? He has gone beyond the bounds of broadcasting and still has ajob. We are a sick society if we follow anything he says.
He has done nothing for the world…has he worked for world peace, built any houses for the poor, helped flooding victims? All he does is express his negative, racist opinions and I for one do not listen but hear things from other stations and am appalled he has not been thrown off the air.
