McCain Campaign Chief Says Palin 2012 Could be “Catastrophic” for Republicans

We already had a pretty good idea what John McCain’s Campaign Manager thought about his candidate’s running mate.

Now he doubles down…

As part of the Aspen Institute’s Washington Ideas Forum  in Washington, DC this morning, Steve Schmidt was asked about Sarah Palin’s upcoming book, “Going Rogue,” and about her 2012 potential.

"I think that she has talent," Schmidt said, "but my honest view is that she would not be a winning candidate for the Republican Party in 2012," according to the Huffington Post’s Sam Stein.

Schmidt added that it was not "inconceivable that she could be Republican nominee for president of the United States."

But, according to Stein, Schmidt said it would be "fairly inconceivable" that she could end up being president. "In fact, were she to be the nominee we could have a catastrophic election," said Schmidt.

UPDATE: Gov. Palin’s spokeswoman, Meg Stapleton, issued this statement in response to Schmidt’s criticism this morning:  “The Governor will write about all of this in her book. There will be plenty of time to talk about it then.”

Here is the full write-up from the Huffington Post:

McCain Campaign Manager: Palin In 2012 Would Be Catastrophe for GOP

If Sarah Palin is her party's nominee for president in 2012 it will be a "catastrophic election" for the GOP, Sen. John McCain's 2008 campaign manager predicted on Friday.

Longtime GOP strategist Steve Schmidt — who ran McCain's campaign and played a role in picking Palin as the senator's running mate — offered a scathing assessment of the former Alaska governor's political trajectory.

"I think that she has talent," Schmidt said, "but my honest view is that she would not be a winning candidate for the Republican Party in 2012."

"She is someone who has a passionate base that passionate base constitutes millions of Americans," Schmidt said. "But in the year since the election has ended, she has done nothing to expand her appeal beyond that base into the middle of the electorate where elections are decided."

Speaking at The Atlantic's First Draft of History Conference, Schmidt was asked, initially, to respond to Palin's forthcoming book, "Going Rogue", and how he thought he would be portrayed in it.

"I think it may say that I was anti-rogue in the running of the campaign," he replied, hinting at the frictions between him and Palin that have been extensively reported since the end of the 2008 campaign.

Schmidt did compliment Palin for engendering fascination among millions of people throughout the country. "Just look at her pre-sales numbers," he said of her book. And he even added that it was not "inconceivable that she could be Republican nominee for president of the United States."

But, he qualified, it would be "fairly inconceivable" that she could end up being president. "In fact, were she to be the nominee we could have a catastrophic election."

She would be a train-wreck…she feeds the extreme right of the party and doesn’t have a good track record of staying on the job. Having her as the Rep nominee would be a huge mistake. I wouldn’t vote for her.

No she would be a god send. This woman is not afraid to say it like it is. Thats why you are all afraid of her because you know she will win. Funny how abc and the dems are already campaining against her. Why? bewcause they know she will win. Otherwise shut up if you are not afraid. There is nothing to say is there?

This man is so jealous and bitter that he can’t even see straight. He ran a TERRIBLE campaign that included taking rev racist/wright “off of the table”.
No one wanted to hear john mccain talk, EVERYONE wanted to see Palin. In a little over 2 months of her intro, Palin drew crowds bigger then barry’s (who had been campaigning for 3 years).
McCain was a terrible canidate and Palin will stomp barry in 2012.

It’s so long to go until 2012 that it seems silly to talk about it. The Republican field is empty, and the incumbent’s strength at the end of his first term is going to be either Carteresque or Reaganesque. We may was well be hypothesizing about who is going to star in the movie that wins the 2013 Best Picture Oscar.

She couldn’t stay in a governorship for a signle term because of alleged ethics issues. I’d say her chances would depend on who is picked as her running mate since she would likely not remain in office for an entire term.

YIPEEE!!! A BabyDoll story!!! …I have been so deprived! Ok… what gets me here; “She has talent…” Although I do very much agree, I’m more concerned about her ability to lead and what she believes in. Great that she can ace the “talent” portion of the beauty contest…err, Presidential campaign but what about being able to LEAD? To think?

Posted by: FS | October 2, 2009, 11:42 am 11:42 am

Me thinks that she probably doesn’t share McCain’s love of war as much. I don’t think she would take the presidency, but you never know.

If Obama’s poularity is high enough in 2012 that the Republicans know they are going to lose anyway then Palin could be the right candidate. She would lose and lose very badly, which could be just what the Republican party needs to weaken the nut-job wing of the party. The nut-job wing (birthers, tea party, death panels) dominates the Republican party today and if they were hurt really badly in 2012, the Republican party could be reborn with some sanity.

The thought of Sarah Palin even getting close to the Oval Office is scarey in itself. I am a very liberal democrat, so I have a bias, but Regan, Ford and even Bush One, were not horrible presidents. Palin as President would be a catastrophe for this nation and possibly the world, that is until she quits a year into her job because it’s too tough.

You are the kind of republican we don’t need. Palin debated a sitting senator of 36 years for 90 minutes…and won. According to CNN, MSNBC, ABC, it was a “tie”, which means she won. It was one of the most watched debates of all time (70+million viewers) and she crushed him. The only idiots are people like you who buy into what the liberal media tells you.
Katie Couric mocked Palin repeatedly for fumbling when asked what she read, but somehow joe biden is given a pass when he didn’t know who has president during the depression. Not only that, but he thought that TV’s were around in 1929 as well. Couric is an idiot and so Palin-haters everywhere.
Palin 2012!

Posted by: Dave | October 2, 2009, 11:55 am 11:55 am

There is zero precedent in this past century for someone who LOST to a presidential candidate to then beat the same candidate in the next election–it hasn’t happened in over 100 years!! (remember the Dems idiotically sending poor sacrificial lamb Adlai Stevenson up against Eisenhower a second time, only to be handed his lunch back with an even worse beating in 1956??) No…of course not…Palin types have zero knowledge of history, even their own country. Any pro in the Republican ranks that supports sending Palin up against Obama is simply conceding that Obama is unbeatable–there would be no reason to send someone who already lost in a presidential election (and quit the only major public job she ever held in less than two years)up against the person who already beat her decisively, except that Repub professionals would already be conceding the election. Rule #1 of re-running pres election losers–don’t send them up again, because they’ll lose again (except Nixon, who didn’t run against the guy who beat him first time, but…we all know how that terrific presidency turned out, don’t we?)

“This woman is not afraid to say it like it is.”
And she’s not afraid to say it like it ain’t:
“Well, I’m very very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing, any hint of any kind of unethical activity there.” – Sarah Palin in response to the legislative Troopergate report which found her guilty of an ethics violation

“Jim, I’m a republican. She comes across as a moron…plain and simple.”
No kidding. Makes me cringe that she’s being talked about.. Hillary would have her for lunch. And I’m sorry, but if people think that Tina Fey can derail her… maybe there’s a reason. I found TF’s skits funny and sadly rather on the mark.
We need to face facts. McCain blew it. Lets get over the denial, fix it and get a candidate in there who can compete.

Dave–
stdntDrvr is exactly the type of Republican you need, if you want any hope of your party not being marginalized for many years to come.
No one, other than her base, thought she won that debate. She lost totally when she said “I’m not going to answer the questions but am going to talk straight to the American people”.

But she isn’t. She is going down as a very rich, far-right joke and quitter. Nothing more.

If Sarah Palin becomes next President of USA, then we, my family, are applying for citizenship back to our roots in Europe. We don’t want to be in a country that supports Jerry Springer offshoots. Many citizens like us feel the very same way. She is a great danger to higher education, women beyond beauty contests, families who don’t like dysfunction but we support higher expectations of women, and who don’t want one religion like Palin’s in America. She will be a threat to all of our freedoms. She is an extremist who America doesn’t need. We had Bush.Cheney, we don’t need Palin. She will put America at dangers of being eliminated physically and internationally.

Joe biden proudly claimed that…
“JOBS is a 3 letter word”
“I have been to all 57 states”
“When Roosevelt was president in 1929 he went on tv to calm everyone down”
“Bosniacs were under attack”
“Barrack Obama is the first clean black man to run for office”
And not word was said from the liberal media. He is quite possibly the biggest blundering fool to ever be on the national stage, and yet because he is not an attractive conservative woman, he is protected. Very sad indeed.

WHO CARES IF SHE HAS THE GUTS TO SAY WHAT SHE THINKS. THAT’S WHAT HER PROBLEM IS — SHE SAYS THINGS THAT ONLY A PEA BRAIN WOULD SAY. SARAH PALIN IS FOR SARAH PALIN. ANYBODY WITH A BRAIN THE SIZE OF A PEA CAN FIGURE THIS OUT. IF YOU CAN’T THEN YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. THE REPUBLICANS AGAIN WILL FALL FLAT ON THEIR FACES (AND CAN’T GET UP) IF THEY CHOOSE THIS LOSER AGAIN. YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE TO THINK ABOUT IT MY FRIEND. GET RID OF HER! BRING ON THE BIG BOYS — BUT NOT THE ONES WHO ARE DIVIDING THIS NATION. IF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WANTS TO SUCCEED THIS TIME, THEY BETTER PUT ASIDE THAT SUPER CONSERVATIVE FRONT THAT HAS MADE US ALL SUFFER. IT’S JUST A JUDGMENTAL WAY OF THINKING — NARROW MINDEDNESS IS DANGEROUS.

Posted by: Al | October 2, 2009, 12:07 pm 12:07 pm

Oh, man, it would the biggest trouncing since…last time she was on the ticket.
Yes, she’s very popular with a certain core element, but that element does NOT represent a majority in the Republican party and certainly not in the electorate in general. Her positions/views are far too conservative/right/fundamentalist and her leadership too spotty. The Republican party needs to wake up and distance itself from the radical fringe instead of pandering to them or it is doomed. I know several Republicans who voted Indendent or voted for Obama or didn’t vote at all because of Palin and what she represented. As a progressive, I’d be tickled pink to see her anywhere NEAR the Rep. ticket in 2012, of course :)

Palinism is a religion, and as such facts are ignored in favor of faith.
Can you imagine her as President? The faithful think that if that were true God would smile down upon us once again and make everything right, the faithless (I’m one of ‘em) know that she would make Bush look like Lincoln.
Let’s teach intelligent design as science, drill baby drill, dinosaurs walked with man, nothing really matters cuz Armageddon is coming and Sarah is going up with the rapturous.
A Sarah Palin candidacy may be disastrous for Republicans, a Palin Presidency would be catastrophic for the planet and everyone on it.

Palin is the target of the left wing ” news” media becasue they are afraid of her. She has a certain honesty about her that Obama and the rest of the Chicago mob don’t have. For all of his speeches, Obama is turning out to be the biggest failure in history because he has no idea what he is doing. Th former McCain aid ran an absolutely miserable campaign and can’t get over it.

Are these “right wing nut jobs” less sane than the demonstrators YOU guys have? Like the anti-Iraq war demonstrators who spray-painted cars last year?
And let’s not forget the World Bank demonstrators who get violent every single year, or the anti-Vietnam demonstrators in the late 60s who overturned buses. How about Bill Ayres stomping on the American flag a day after 9/11. That was true sanity, right?
When the latest demonstration in DC took place a few weeks ago protesting higher taxes, there wasn’t a single arrest, was there? I doubt if there was a single arrest in any of the tea party demonstrations either.
For someone who is such a weak candidate for President, Palin seems to scare you all half to death doesn’t she? Why is that?

If you think Katie Couric’s interview was unfair to Palin, just wait — the media can’t wait to get into the action. Palin’s worse manners will be brought forward, and Palin won’t be able to do anything about what is shown. Her hairdo is so 70s, and she lives in the past. Please America grow up or be certain America would be lost forever. Over 200 years would be forever gone. No America with Palin.

And the Republicans that are in bed with the lobbyists are just scared. ala Mitch McConnel, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins – there are many more but that will do for now
She may be what America needs – a person NOT AFRAID to do a little cleansing of the political trough on both side of the fence, Repubs and Dems. Early rumors say she will run in 2012 on a platform to clean up the corruption that manefests itself in DC.

It’s still more than obvious that ABC is continuing its love affair with Obama and Biden- Biden is a gaff every time he opens his mouth- but Palin was and is held to a different standard. This guy as a “long term GOP stragtegist” is alot of the problem that the GOP have lost so many votes. I didnt vote for McCain- I didnt vote for Obama either- but this guy and his so called GOP experts ran a horrible campaign – they should have prepared her and her family for the media scrutiny- Hillary already had her dirty laundry aired for years- Palin was fresh blood to the media and the experts over in the GOP should have realized that. They are the ones to blame for the loss- GOP get some new ” experts” on your team. This guy is almost as worthless as an expert in todays world as Carl Rove is.

Dave,
I would believe that we are all on the same team, right? She ‘tied’ with Biden…that does not equate to a ‘win.’ Seriously, he’s just as big of a moron as she is.
She has yet to show that she is capable of holding the office. She leans too far to the extreme right for my taste…your statement alone backs that up. I would prefer someone who is more center-right. Someone who is fiscally responsible and understands what ‘small government’ actually means…all the while understanding opposing views and actually taking them into consideration without the need for name calling, etc. I guess that makes me a ‘bad’ republican?

I’m an Alaska Resident and a Republican, but I did NOT vote for Palin even when she ran for Governor. It was obvious she won only because of female allure! This woman is a DISASTER! People wake up! I know people who work with her. She is not smart!! She made big mistakes and caused a lot of contention in Alaska. Seriously.. Palin is self absorbed and all this has gone to her head. She cares about Sarah!! We already have someone like that running our Country right now! Let’s do something different next time and vote for someone with INTELLIGENCE, NOT THE GIFT OF GAB OR A GREAT SALES PERSON. Please do your homework in 2012.Let’s focus on the issues! We need someone who actually knows how to budget, has had experience running something besides their mouth. And we need someone who will take charge and stand up and say let’s remove these freeloaders and send illegal immigrants back to their Country. We need REAL LEADERSHIP! We do not need ANOTHER Beauty OR POPULARITY CONTEST! Obama and Palin are the same person, only on opposite ends of the spectrum. We need REAL change next time around!!

Palin single-handedly dismantled the corrupt republican party in Alaska as governor. She sold the private jet and got rid of the private chef.
Barry on the other hand, used convicted felon and slumlord tony rezko to help him buy a 2 million dollar mansion. Rezko was also his senate campaign organizer before getting sent to the big house. Barry used alinksy tactics, marched with ACORN and drank cocktails with unrepentent terrorists.
Palin fought corruption and barry was in bed with it- rev racist, bill ayers, ACORN, tony rezko, rashid khalidi, blago, the list goes on.
After 4 years of an anti-American socialist as prez, Palin will win (if she decides to run).

John McCain is a True American, a True Patriot and an Honorable Man. McCain saw the handwriting on the wall – that his fellow Republicans would surely destroy the very nation if allowed even four more years of power. So McCain very nobly fell on his own sword: he chose Palin as his running mate to ensure that he and his party would NOT occupy the White House after January 20th of this year!
Either that or McCain is a “Compleat Idiot”. Which I doubt.
For Palin, there is no question but that she is a superannuated high school cheerleader – pom-poms and all.

Of the three Presidents you listed, how many actually had competition during the election? None…and W almost lost to Gore and Kerry…do you not see anything wrong with that?
Perhaps you don’t think that we need to gain more support from independents? I guess the ‘go at it alone’ attitude works for you, but I do not believe that it’s in the best interest for the party and the future of the country.
I could care less who the media and/or liberals hate the most. I only care about who lines up with my ideals the most. Quit letting the media influence your vote.

Such an unnecessary headline story right now, BUT….
I would hate to have Palin emerge as the GOP candidate in 2012. I may believe in her views, but she simply is not presidential.

I have watched in wonder since Palin’s intro last year at all of the horrific comments made about her by other WOMEN (with zero outrage from supposed “women’s groups”).
Bottom line is that women HATE other women in power, especially attractive and happily-married ones. I thought the femenazis were going to burn her at the stake! If I could have a nickel for everyone time I have heard women around me say “I just don’t like girls” I would be a rich man.

John McCain was a catastrophic loss for the Republican party with his loss to Obama, due in part of McCain’s campaign manager who had a weak and pc strategy.

I hope she is their nominee. Look at all the laughs we got from her last year. I LMAO at SNL. And her interview with Katie

the GOP needs a candidate everyone respects, and Palin isn’t it.

Heidi,
I fully agree. It’s sad that people are blinded by their emotions and can’t see it.
Bush wasn’t the brightest, either…but I don’t think he was horrible. I disagree with a lot of things he did, but we always knew where he stood…which is something that I did admire. I think that if he was a 1-termer, he wouldn’t have taken the beatings he has.

Dave “Palin single-handedly dismantled the corrupt republican party in Alaska as governor” She has darn near done the same to the National Republican party. Let us not forget how McCain did not get elected because of her.

Posted by: jenny | October 2, 2009, 12:46 pm 12:46 pm

This much I can tell you – Sarah Palin will never be president. She’ll probably make some good money with book deals and lectures and right wing patrons, but she’s a political dead end. The fact that she has such rabid support with so many Repubs. shows that the Repubs. are stuck with her in that dead end. She has the empty eyes of a pigeon. The lights are on, but nobody’s home.

All of you snobs out there who are arrogantly demeaning this woman need to get a reality check on history. The same thing happened to Reagan and Lincoln. She is the one political figure in public life today who actually stands for and believes in something beyond herself. That is why she endgenders so much loyalty and support. Those who underestimate her do so at their own peril.Mr. Schmidt needs to remember what a leading political boss, as he apparently once aspired to be, in 1860 said of Abraham Lincoln when he was meanly attacked using the same terms I read above, “Gentlemen in that uncouth railsplitter you see the craftiest, slickest politician who ever hoodwinked a yokel mob!” Just remember that a few years from today. She will have the last laugh at your expense, not hers!

Second McCain shouldn’t have had her as his running mate.
Third: Why don’t we let this President try and get us out of the mess we are in before we start thinking about the next election?
Perhaps if we would stop the long and expensive campaigns and concentrate on our problems we would be better off!

The last election was all about gimics. Obama’s gimic is that he’s black, so in retaliation McCain had to find his own gimic in Sarah Palin.
While watching this past fiasco of a campaign, the only thing I could think about was how unenthuastic she seemed. Did she even want it I wonder?
By the way, I’m not a Republican or a Democrat. I’m an American.

Palin is so dumb, she doesn’t know she’s been used. Republicans are such sexists.. no way they’d ever vote for ANY woman. They simply rely on the social heirarchy of old.. white men at the top and everyone else subserviant. The ONLY reason Palin was on the ticket was to ATTEMPT to shave off Hillary voters. Which is absurd, that they think women are such gullable idiots, we’d vote for a woman just because. No fellas, those of us who supported Hillary did so because we thought she was the best candidate. To try to entice us with Palin was a joke.
Now that this charade is over, the republicans can dump all over Palin and show their true colors with regard to gender. They’ll NEVER support her or any other woman. The are incapable of such progressive thought.

Great Republican spin there. “It was a tie, which means she won”. Hahahaha!
BTW, I thought the Republicans think Biden is an idiot with foot-in-mouth disease who’s never done anything. Love the way you try to spin him into something formidable when it suits your (non)argument……

Posted by: SearamblerOne | October 2, 2009, 1:14 pm 1:14 pm

I was really torn during the election as to who to vote for. While I hadn’t voted R for the last few elections I was really leaning toward McCain. Except for a few disappointing actions I was truly preferring him over Obama…
Until i heard Sarah Palin speak for the first time. Once a politician gets a wide enough reputation for being an idiot they seldom come back from that. She’s been accurately compared to Dan Quayle who also made a series of gaffs that established him in public opinion as an idiot and he truly never recovered. He hasn’t held public office since.
Her best chance at reestablishing credibility may have been to hold onto her post as Governor and focus everything on regaining her approval rating there. Her resignation came off as just another erratic move even to her own party.
True Quayle had his supporters just as Palin does but just like Quayle I doubt she will ever convince the powers that be within her own party that she can win an election of any sort. What her supporters apparently think of as “maverick” behavior is simply erratic behavior. And “speaking like it is” as some give her credit for fizzles out pretty quickly. Once you mimic the complaining of the discontent you have to take it somewhere with concrete sensible ideas and she’s never made it past the whining.

Sarah is THE MOST disrespectful politician I’ve ever seen. If the GOP wants to earn it’s respect from the public back then I would suggest not even thinking about allowing her to be the next Republican presidential candidate. She is one of THE biggest reasons why the GOP has no respect from the public now.

Umm, Dave, you DO realize that President Obama was a United States Senator from Illinois, right? That it’s not the job of a senator to ‘take on’ anyone in a city within his state. That would be up to the Governor, the Mayor, and maybe possibly state congressional members…..

Someone holding the scalpal ready to cut into your chest to do heart surgery but knows NOTHING about medicine or human anatomy. Someone in the cockpit of a plane who had an engine blow out and she has NO IDEA how to fly a plane. Someone with the power to save a bank, a financial institution, …or not, and having NO IDEA what is wrong with it, what the scope or design of the problem is ,the laws that surround finance, banking, trade, or even the governments constitutional role in any of it, yet there she is, on the verge of economic collapse, ms. president, what are you going to do, and she answers “What’s a deriva-what? What was that? So, it’s bank? Like, savings bank, err, uh, securities? What do you mean? Securities ,and what’s that ratio who-sy-whats-it?? What’s that mean? “………. A DINGBAT in a drivers seat who NEEDS to make the sharp turn in a skilled manner and she doesn’t know how to shift. THAT is what we’re scared of, the DANGER of MASSIVE incompetence. There’s nothing wrong with Mrs Palin. I find it somewhat odd for some to categorize her into the “Nutty Right-Wing” base. Personally, I would put her just right of center on many issues. It’s true, she is a Christian and holds to certain unshakeable beliefs, which by the way, fostered and shaped the development of our young Republic but, no more than some liberals who feafully hold to their blind faith in progressivism. And, I will end with this. After Bush and Obama, we could not do any worse. She is a Washington outsider and I believe she would bring the whip to clean up the corruption which is so badly needed with regard to DC politics.

She is self-made and has never had to say “that is not the person I knew” or “I did not know that person beyond a casual acquaintance.” Barry has denied knowing more people and in some cases thrown them under the bus (his grandmother was one of the first to be tossed) then bill clinton did on his affairs.
The only difference between barry and every other slimeball on capitol hill is that he is 1/2 black- which is why he was elected.

“that included taking rev racist/wright “off of the table”.”——–you can’t win elections without moderates and nobody cared that a preacher from years back made a couple questionable quotes in two speeches. Only the far right gives a crap at these straws you grasp. What you dont get, is that nobody else cares. For those who were actually looking at the issues, your distractions dont work, becuase you people already had your mind made up not to like him. for the folks who were actually listening ot his policies, and had not decided yet, and truly were taking into account all the positives and negatives, your crap you were spewing was just so stupid. YOu people are getting the repuation….no…you now HAVE the reputation of the party of the stupid people and this past campaign was the tour de force that sort of made it official. THe lowest point was when your ‘joe the plumber” ended up being a guy who did NOT make 250k and wasn’t even a licenced plumber. Then mccain freaked out and dind’t understand what a derivative was, palin was shopping, it was just a complete implosion that was resulted because of one very important fact…you weren’t addressing the issues. period.

People use to believe Reagan would also be a catastrophe for America..I remember all the criticism he got from the left..how did that work out for us?
Palin is a true patriot and honest person in politics (try to find that combo today is difficult)…the left has thrown everything they can at her to discredit her..dug (or tried to dig) all the dirt up..and she;s still standing…there is nothing more they can do to her now…the republicans better figure that out..no other candidate will have been vetted by the media like Palin has been already in 2012..she is the “safe” choice for them for that reason..in fact there will likely be a backlash from the country against all liberal things in 2012..because it looks like we are not coming out of the recession anytime soon. Her book will likely be the biggest seller of 2009 and already setting records for pre-orders…it’s almost inevitable..she will be the GOP nominee and will trounce Obama (aka this generations Jimmy Carter)..History will repeat itself…American people will rebound to the right after Obama.

Like I said, she didn’t debate anyone. She made a stump speech. If that means that you think she “won”, I really don’t care. Far as I can remember, she and McCain lost the election, which I think is what really counted.
And, I wasn’t passed out – I thought she was hilarious the way she was playing Tina Fey doing a debate.

Don’t the Republicans have one Intellectual anywhere? Sarah Palin
doesn’t have the education, or the
depth of knowledge to be the most
powerful person in the world.
Republican have demonized the term
liberal, it seems as if they want to
demonize being intelligent. The office of the President IS NOT the same as the Governor of one of the least
populated states in the US. Plus,
do you really want a person who doesn’t finish what they start?
The last President used his “gut” to
be the “decider”, that didn’t work too
well did it?

Posted by: blackie | October 2, 2009, 2:19 pm 2:19 pm

It really doesn’t matter who the Republicans put up in 2012, because the economy is going to be 2-3x better than it was when Bush left office, and there will probably be a series of Middle East peace deals in progress, and Obama will easily take the re-election.

Steve Schmidt, the manager of what is generally perceived to be one of the worst run campaigns in recent history, has two reasons for trashing Palin and shooting down her nomination.
He hopes to get the blame for his lousy work for McCain laid elsewhere and he knows he will not be getting a job in any campaign of Palin’s.
I believe his personal interests are more important to him than anything to do with the GOP, Palin or the country.

I cannot believe what I am reading from the folks that believe this woman would make a good choice for the country’s highest office. I certainly hope that all the Republicans and Democrats that feel she would be a good candidate come to their senses. I think a good test of her qualifications and knowledge of the world would be to put her up against a fifth grader.

Wonder why ABCNEWS removed my post. Maybe it made too much sense. Again, it doesn’t matter who the Republicans run in 2012. By then the economy will have nearly fully recovered, a Middle East peace deal will likely have been signed, and Obama will be in a solid position to win re-election.

Posted by: Eric | October 2, 2009, 2:30 pm 2:30 pm

Sarah Palin has about as much chance as Nancy Pelosi of getting elected president. If the far right and left haven’t figured that out yet than they are in for more disappointment. Too much credence is given to Fox News and MSNBC. They preach to the choir. Their audience is almost irrelevant when compared to the total news sources available today. Fox continues to brag about their thumping the competition but really is seen by only about 2.5 million viewers on an average night. I seriously doubt that all the cable news shows put together would draw more viewers than the Cartoon Network. The newscasters of yesteryear were much more trustful and politics was presented without all the bias and spin. So if all this stupid stuff continues then we may see a new independent party emerge that will clean both their clocks.

One person lost the election of 2008 and only 1: John McCain.
He lost for 3 main reasons. 1.He was a pathetic campaigner and only lit up the room by introducing Sarah Palin; 2. Barack Obama inspired a lot of people and made them think he’d end racial tensions (that didn’t pan out), 3 Most importantly, McCain was a moderate weasel of the type that infests Wahington on both sides, who doesn’t have any core value beyond his own power.
Whatever you think of Palin, John McCain and his ilk are pathetic non-thinkers. Most Republicans had to hold their nose to vote for him.

It seems to me the “Palin Effect” isn’t based in what they like about her, but more about how she really bugs the other side of the aisle. The radical conservative base is so crazy angry that they cannot control everything and they have a black president that they would elect another buffoon just to aggravate the left. It is another symptom of the “Just say NO” mentality.

It’s because of people like McCain who act like the democrats of 25 years ago. We NEED Reagan type conservatives to regain the government. But I seriously doubt it will happen. God help our Country, and God help anyone who thinks that this woman would be a good candidate for anything other than maybe as the president of a PTA – I’d still be concerned with that as well if I were a parent at that school!
Palin’s lack of political savvy is so obvious – even to folks like me who don’t have that much political savvy. Her rhetoric and speech delivery is analagous to poorly orchestrated evangelism on Sunday morning t.v.
She is prejudiced, unyielding and excessively small minded – how could any feeling, thinking woman think she has the right to say whether another woman should or can have an abortion. She needs to woman up and give credence to the old Indian addage of “Don’t talk about another Indian unless you’ve walked in their mocassins” before she jumps straight up to criticize and condemn.
Screw Sarah Palin and her closet Fascism. She’s the last person we need in any leadership capacity in this Country.

I have a feeling that many people in here are feeling some pressure. If she runs, there is a very high likelihood that she could get in and get a lot of things done that otherwise have not. She could wind up being the actual player to bring this country back to some level of whole once again instead of owing our butts to mainland China! We have a train wreck in Washington right now!!! The folks calling her a train wreck probably have “something in it for them” now and don’t want to loose that. I’m still on the fence, but she’s been more honest and vocal than anything the left has at all!! Her record in Alaska also stands on it’s own. What say you!!???

Posted by: J Kline | October 2, 2009, 3:07 pm 3:07 pm

I think the problem with our country is with both the Democrats and the Republicans. The two party system is dragging us down. We need more options, unfortunately the Democrats and the Republicans have a virtual monopoly and have no intent on sharing power. Both parties are responsible and both parties act reprehensibly. Until we get more than two choices, our country is screwed. Granted, a President Palin would make W look like Lincoln…and our country would really be up the creek.

I am all for Palin in 2012 almost makes it a shoe-in for dems again

Posted by: Daniel orr | October 2, 2009, 3:22 pm 3:22 pm

The Republican party is making one basic mistake – after the major loss of last years presidential election, they are not re-examining themselves as a party and who they need to represent.
Instead they continue to rant and rave against Obama without forming a new consensus as to what they – as a party – stand for. Sarah Palin is a symptom of that lack of identity. Though I am totally unable to understand it, she has a large base of followers. But Sarah Palin is totally unelectable, and unreliable.
On one hand we have the Democrats fighting with each other over everything – looking to reinvent the Democratic party – though it does not need to be reinvented. On the other hand we have the Republican party screaming vile insults and making imbecilic statements (a la Sarah Palin). It seems to me that this country has fallen apart politically. The party in power cannot agree on a simple grocery list, and the party out of power can’t figure out how to regroup.

Posted by: Jon F | October 2, 2009, 3:27 pm 3:27 pm

Notice that when Tony Blair stepped down in the UK, he set the election for three months in the future.
We have over three years until we elect the next president and we’re arguing about who the candidate will be. Until Jimmy Carter, virtually no one did any serious campaigning until election year.
It now costs so much to run for public office that if you do not sell your soul to the special interests you have a hard time winning. Most Congressmen receive 80-90% of their campaign money from out-of-state sources.
We need a law to limit campaigning.
MY personal opinion is that Palin would be a disaster for the GOP and for the true patriotic members of the GOP who would put country ahead of anything else. You want to run a female for president: Olympia Snowe actually has knowledge about the issues and knows how to work the Senate. Of course, she doesn’t use terms like “death squads”, etc. so she doesn’t excite the hate-elements.

Posted by: The_Mick | October 2, 2009, 3:31 pm 3:31 pm

Never mind that she is dumb and cant possibly be taken seriously as a candidate for the POTUS. Should Americans be fool enough to elect her, we would at least have a President that every red blooded American male could fantasize about every night.

I think a lot of people are going to get a big surprise when Sarah’s book comes out. The campaign heads seem to be trying to save face for a failed and lousy campaign they have done. Many people don’t see what a lot on the other hand do. She is a natural politician and brilliant how she has played it thus far. The MSM can’t get enough of her but why if she is not even a contender. They always tell us who they are frightened of. This is no exception.

A woman who denies evolution on the basis of strict creationist interpretation of biblical stories. A woman who carts her months old baby around on the campaign trail at all hours of the day and night, along with his schoolage siblings (one of whom is pregnant) as an example of strong family values. A woman who supports a church that finances exorcism of juveniles in Africa when their families don’t pay enough alms. A woman whose husband is a secessionist. A woman who wants to “drill baby drill” in ANWR, regardless of the impact on the environment or how many species will be driven to extinction.

The current crisis is not about republicans losing, they deserved to lose as they offered nothing but same old republican politics. McCain’s chairman missed it on McCain so who wants his opinion now?
If the republican party is not re-born into something better then it was all for naught.
Obama promised change, and he hasn’t rescued the economy but is spending well and and has broken all republican records for being big spenders and has us well on the track toward socialism and a nanny state!
Obama now owns the national debt and so far Axelrod has not even hinted at a plan to mitigate the national debt. So it appears safe to assume they are just going to keep on spending until there is a total market collapse then seize upon that moment of crisis to usher in socialism (and just maybe suspend elections and declare martial law).

So listen up, I am honored that you include me in the great group of talk hosts. I must hit your nerves. So fear not, let her run and see what happens. You know what will happen. And McCain wasn’t a catastrophe for Republicans? How could it have been any worse exactly? Who gives a crap about what his campaign manager thinks? Based on the turd of a campaign he conceived and ran Republicans should do the OPPOSITE of what he says.

Schmidt certainly knows how to cover his bets. He doesn’t provide ONE statement pertaining to Palin’s presidential run in 2012 without equivicating. He’s like one of those Economists on a talk show: “Well, I predict strong growth in the future unless shrinkage in the markets takes place.”

She has zero chance of winning anything. After the catastrophe that was the last election, her decision to abandon her post as governor to roll in money from a book deal and her trashy family’s tabloid appearances, there is no way. She’s a noteworthy oddity, nothing more.

“Bottom line is that women HATE other women in power”—then why did Hillary have such HUGE support from women??? Hillary overwhelmingly had black women’s approval! No, women love to see women but they HATE to see a STUPID women!!! A stupid woman in office, who does a disasterous job due to her inability to know her arse from her elbow in anything would be a HUGE step backward for women. Women are careful that whomever goes forth first, needs to be a very smart women. PUt a stupid women in and when she fails, which a stupid person will, then all the crap of how women are not smart will fall back on us that women cannot lead. Many women have lead other nations. they have ALWAYS been well educated, with higher education and college degrees in law and finance or other, and usually multiple degrees, or law degrees. There just simply aren’t enough of you who think the Earth has only been around for 6000 years and humans walked with dinosaurs to get her into the office of POTUS. I really don’t see her making it. If she gets nominated, it will be the end of the Republican Party.

This woman is a fake, a phony low life with no activities and nothing more than her “cuteness” and her idiot behavior including her relationship with her kids, and with the state of Alaska. If this is the best that the Republican party can come up with than we are all doomed. Palin has about as much mental ability as a chipmunk with dementia. She is appalling, undereducated and a freak Christian who wants the entire country to be one of domination to the Christian Right and their fascist ideas. The media should just dismiss her along with the erroneous claims that millions love her – who cares, the position of the United States of America deserves more than a backward looser.

Posted by: dtlincoln | October 2, 2009, 5:08 pm 5:08 pm

Sara Palin, president? Really!!??!! There isn’t a democrat with a pulse who will vote for her. Independents won’t vote for her due to her far right positions and a large chunk of republicans won’t vote for her for two reasons; she’s a quitter and they don’t vote for quitters and second, they heard her speak. So she’s left with the religous right, the conspiracy nuts and, I suppose Glen Beck. In four years she could write another book, “Going Away.”

Yeah, sure.
Millions of conservative Republicans were ready to dump the GOP until they shrewdly picked Sarah Palin as Mc-Same’ol,same-ol’s running mate. The only reason I voted GOP was because of Palin on the ticket.
Go Sarah!

I thought the book was already finished. Are these people for real? Did Sarah finish the book or not? Has it been printed or not? If it si finished ant preinted how will she write it in hre book. Is she going to write a book every year? Why, oh why would this great country validate a woman who is as intellectually challenged as Sarah Palin? We are better than that. We should elect the best and brightest not the one who struts and winks and is dumb as dirt. Please give me one concrete thing that this woman has done that has helped anybody other than herself. I don’t get you people who think Sarah Palin is, as you call her, an idiot. She is a real American – I think at this point in our country we don’t need to keep on electing the same entrenched politicians who keep the status quo. She is a breath of fresh air and would fight for the American public – OMG what a concept!
Hey Elle – where can I send a contribution to get you out of the country faster – sick of you Anti-Americans who always throw that threat out there but never come through when you lose. Jordan, I think this may very well be correct. McCain made so many “mistakes”, the big one being a choice of Palin, I can’t help but think that he was secretly trying to lose. So many people commented on how odd and out of character McCain seemed compared to earlier campaigns.

Sorry Dave. Your attack on a fellow Republican is not factual. Sarah Palin has never won a debate. I’d be surprised if she could win a spelling bee. This woman is a journalism and 6 years and 5 years after the fact, she graduated with that degree and nothing to show for it beyond winks and you-betchas. Sarah Palin appeals to a base who either wants her to be a garage pin-up girl, or women who feel comfortable with her because she makes them feel better about under-achieving and getting paid for it. Whatever it is, she will never, ever become President of the United States. She’ll need Black, Hispanic and educated votes. She’ll never get them.

She is an ex-beauty queen, still attractive — at least to a certain element of the population –but to others of us, her dumbness, her ignorance, her lack of knowledge about history and government, completely obliterate any potential attractiveness that she might have. The thought of her as President of the U.S. is an absolute nightmare. Having quit her job as Governor should DISqualify her for any future political office.

By mentioning Sarah Palin and buying her book when her life is an open book is keeping her relevant beyond her 15 minutes. She had a shot at becoming a great Governor for the state of Alaska and she blew it by prematurely quitting. She will greatly enhance her stature if she reads great works of literature and contemporary biographies. On this day the 140th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi if Palin reads about his life story and those like MLK and Nelson Mandela that followed his ideology to great benefit she will begin developing a sound mind and then maybe there will not be as much fear that she could get anywhere close to the white house and be catastrophic to her party, her country and humanity.

Ensign from Nevada. He’s learned to screw up his family pretty well. Or Sanford from SC, maybe he’ll be a born again Christian? Romney? I don’t think Mitt would stand aside waiting to become Palin’s bulldog. Yes, I have to agree, ‘catastrophic’.

If he says, ‘we could have could have a catastrophic election’ then we could win hands down….
He’s an idiot.

Elle,
If Sarah Palin becomes next President of USA, then we, my family, are applying for citizenship back to our roots in Europe.

Ref: Mack
It would not matter who the Dems had in the White House you would think the same. Both parties need to get over acting like sulking children when they loose an election. The Dems were no better as Al Gore went away, hid and grew a beard until they let him have the Nobel Prize for something he did not even put together and then he came out of hiding. That being said, how could anyone think Sarah Palin is even remotely qualified to lead a country and world super power such as the USA? The woman for one thing knows next to nothing about issues, world situations, etc. that has to do with such a job. In her short time in public office there have been so many questions and investigations about her honestly and integrity. She does fall into that Jerr Springer catagory because the only way she gets and keeps attention is to give speaches full of lies and inacturate charges, many that are proven to be so and still she will continue to speak them. Why does she do this? Many out there love this kind of thing and will jump right on that bandwagon and if she keeps up the controversy about what she is saying then no one ever gets the chance to ask her real questions which she is incapable of answering. If by some horrible fluke she is elected to be our President beginning in 2013, my family and I will be moving out of the country sometime between the election results in Nov and her taking office in Jan and good luck to all of you who are staying behind. You are really going to need it.

Dave
I have watched in wonder since Palin’s intro last year at all of the horrific comments made about her by other WOMEN (with zero outrage from supposed “women’s groups”).
I am a woman and I think it is long past time that we have a woman in the White House as President. A smart intelligent woman who has the skills, experience and demeanor to execute the job of President of the United States. Sarah Palin is not that woman in any way, shape or form and if you think she is I really feel sorry for you. This woman did a lousy job as Gov of Alaska. How do you find that out? Read what the people of Alaska have to say now that she is out of office there and can’t use it’s power to come after them. God help us all if she has the power of the US Government fully behind her. I shake to think of how she could abuse that power and cause a world catastrophe. The Dems are not scared of her. They are not Palin haters. This woman truely is ignorant, dishonest, and inept. The Dems know one thing…even if Obama turns out to be a horrible President, Sarah Palin will not win the election for the Republicans in 2012. If the Republicans do not get people like her out of the party it will be destroyed for years to come.

Posted by: Cathy | October 3, 2009, 11:53 am 11:53 am

Whatever your opinion of Sara, why would anyone take Steve Schmidt’s opinion seriously? This guy ran one of the worst presidential campaigns in the last 50 years, now he’s consulted as an “expert.” The value this moron brings to the debate is that whatever position he is for, you would be well advised to be against.

Posted by: jose goldfinger | October 3, 2009, 12:40 pm 12:40 pm

Sarah Palin would get about 20% of the vote, from the same people on whom Fox News and Limbaugh and Beck have a lock. They love her for her sexy buns, her chirpy voice, and her ability to speak the truth to power so eloquently. Here’s her explanation of why she quit on the day before a major holiday. “July 3rd is the eve of Independence Day. It is meaningful to be able to say: Look, there needs to be freedom all the way around here to progress.” Her future is in journalism. She’ll make millions on the lecture circuit and then settle down as a TV host on Fox News.

Posted by: Robert Maxwell | October 3, 2009, 1:12 pm 1:12 pm

The campaign Mr. Schmidt ran for John McCain could also be considered a “catastrophe” so I don’t think any future advice he might give can be considered credible.

Then they pushed her into the CLOSET because she would have KICKED OBUMAS BUTT and McCain wanted to be the NICE GUY and not OFFEND OBUMA. That is why McCain lost the ELECTION. I don’t think I need to watch David Letterman to know an airhead when I see one. Let’s face it. The woman is stupid. Not to mention that she tried to get her sister’s ex-husband fired from his job because he wasn’t getting along with her sister. That isn’t corrupt?

Posted by: Irish Dave | October 3, 2009, 8:51 pm 8:51 pm

To Jim Rod: This woman would tell it like she thinks it is….however, that is not the case. She has a right wing view of things and says a lot of things that some people want to hear but not everybody. She planned to run all along but to quit a job before it is finished is not a good mark on her qualifications. She has not even run her family well and only mentions her son when she needs the sympanthy vote. A good mother takes care of her needy child and does not travel all over leaving him with anyone who will care for him so she can have her career. She is young and if she wants a career, she can put it on hold for a few years until he is a little older and his routine has been established. He does need a little more time and consideration than her other children. I find what she says and how she lives are two different things.

Yeah, Palin would be a train wreck. We really need someone who’s IQ is “off the charts”, someone who speaks fluently and articulates themselves well.
Wait, we already have a moron like that, who has screwed up the economy, making a train wreck out of health care reform, creating a potential disaster out of Afghanistan and was a miserable failure in bringing home the Olympics.
Tell you what, I truly believe that Mickey Mouse would be a better president than the current one. So it is almost impossible that Palin could be worse. So let’s try this….let Palin be president and Obama could be the new host of The Biggest Loser!

Sarah Palin is actually a “secret weapon” implanted into the Republican party by liberals to finally destroy the Republican party by “implosion”… LOL. ……………
The funny thing is this though… If I spread that rumor far enough, some of the “right-whiners” (i.e., the “birthers” and the “death panellers”) would actually believe that too!… LOL.

Obama will be in charge in Dec 2012 so I think the Mayans may have known what a moron Obama is and predicted our end due to it. BTW, Nostradamus predicted that Mabus (who happens to be the name of Obama’s Navy guy) will be killed and that the Anti-Christ who Nostradamus called the dark one will attack. Dark one? Who will become anger and launch us into war? Sounds like Obama to me and I am not even a believer in this type of stuff.

I’m independent and Palin has my vote despite and probably because the smears being tossed at her by the dems/the bots/ and the republicans.

Posted by: PotatoeGater22 | October 4, 2009, 5:09 pm 5:09 pm

Funny how the bots pick on palin for pointing out that Russia and Alaska are within eyesight of one another but give the moron Obama who thought that there were 57 states in the US a pass.

Palin is far better educated than either McCain or Obama. Obama thought “the bomb” was dropped on Pearl Harbor..how stupid is that?

Posted by: PotatoeGater22 | October 4, 2009, 5:15 pm 5:15 pm

I know many republicans that would not vote for her no matter what these millions of her fans think. They still find her tactics repulsive, and her intelligence below that required to hold the office of president. The GOP put that to the limit with Bush, and look how that turned out. A Rogue president is not what we need at this time, or any time in the future. Being Rogue will destroy any and all of the cooperation we are now just seeing repaired after Cheney and Bush destoyed decades of work of presidents of both parties to maintain the reputation of the United States as a diplomatic and admirable, and respectable nation. Palin could destroy all of that with one ill concieved speach. That scares the hell out of me and it should scare all Americans. Her fan base is just that. Sort of the same fan base of Beck, Limbaugh, Colter, and Graham. Easily influenced, egotistical, self righteous, and very extreme.

Sarah Palin is the reason the nation would have to implode under Obama before I’d speculate I should have voted for that other ticket.

“Palin is far better educated than either McCain or Obama. Obama thought “the bomb” was dropped on Pearl Harbor..how stupid is that?”………… This spoken by a person that spells their name potatoE?

Palin is far better educated than either McCain or Obama
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Sarah Palin, as Governor of Alaska on July 3, 2009, explaining why the only right thing for a politician to do is quit mid-first-term-
“Only dead fish go with the flow.”
Sarah Palin explaining that her resignation on July 3, 2009, is a win for her team-
“Let me go back to a comfortable analogy for me – sports…basketball. I use it because you’re naive if you don’t see the national full-court press picking away right now. A good point guard drives through a full court press, protecting the ball, keeping her eye on the basket…and she knows exactly when to pass the ball so that the team can WIN.”
Sarah Palin on July 4, 2009, pointing out that “countless others” quit mid-term all the time and nobody picks on them-
“How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it’s about country. And though it’s honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make.”
Sarah Palin misunderstanding the First Amendment on June 16, 2009-
“Letterman certainly has the right to ‘joke’ about whatever he wants to, and thankfully we have the right to express our reaction. This is all thanks to our U.S. military women and men putting their lives on the line for us to secure America’s Right to Free Speech – in this case, may that right be used to promote equality and respect.”
Sarah Palin on Oct. 31, 2008 again misunderstanding First Amendment rights AND suggesting that criticism of her is unconstitutional-
“If the media convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations then I don’t know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media.”
You know what ‘Potato-Head’?… I think it’s a great idea for Palin to run for President in 2012!!!

“McCain Campaign Chief Says Palin 2012 Could be “Catastrophic” for Republicans”
What else would you expect a Rockefeller Republican to say? Doomed to forever being a minority party w/o the social conservatives. LGBT idiots apparently exist in both parties, regardless of their educational background.

If American voters actually vote for that obnoxious nutjob, then it is truly time for this country to degenerate into a Third World nation. And we would deserve it. C’mon, people, get real…

I would love to see Palin win just so the Obama haters and Republicans can talk cash junk about her. I would love to read the comments. It would be hillarious!!!!! Also, Obama haters and Republicans, Quit saying the democrats are afraid of this woman. Afraid of what? Afraid she will open her mouth to speak again? That alone is enough to scare you.

Rich, I know it’s hard but pay attention, Palin didn’t say she could see Russia, that was a SNL spin…..dems, always with their heads in the sand..tsk, tsk

“The only reason she is still relevant is because she is beautiful. If she were ugly she would have been thrown in the garbage heap.” ===========
Probably some truth to this; she wears too much make up for my taste. The best line I’ve hear so far this year…..”If she looked like Golda Meir, no one would pay attention. Of course, Golda was a brilliant politician.

“Palin didn’t say she could see Russia, that was a SNL spin.”
She told ABC’s Charlie Gibson: “They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.”

I’m new to this forum, and relieved to read it. I am fiscal/legal conservative, I don’t push my religion on others, don’t worry about gays. I want a smart president and we now have one after 8 years of a damaging authoritarian puppet show that moved all the money to the top 1% with unfair Irag contracts, etc. Palin is at least one boob. Who supports her and why? Who are the idiots buying ammo? Who listens to limbaugh/hannity? Extremists all. They don’t matter. Senibility, fatherhood, wisdom, fairness and love matter. If there is to be any “Republican” party, they’d better step that way and dissavow the extremists. Step one; deport Rove to Iran.

Someone posted that the only reason Palin is relevant is because she is beautiful.Beautiful huh LOl that’s what some of you think? LOL Tell her to take the makeup and glasses off and then let’s see what you think.

A word about Hyperbole;
Please look it up if you don’t know the definition! Now’s the time.
Lots of entries here, many are full of it. Many declare outright lies. Some just are incorrect. Some are “frothing at the mouth” nuts.
A lot like what we see/read in the media.
Here’s a fact; we need less of it.
Wouldn’t it be neat if, even just in THIS forum, the incorrect crap could be red-striked out, and the person who entered it banned from further input?
Wouldn’t it be neat if that included the nutsy hyperbole?
I enjoy most of the comments, but the herd could be thinned.
The Republican and Democrat party members have become cartoon figures in all the extremism. The frantic tugging has polarized moderates who are afraid of the screaming crazies on the other side and move to help drown them out with the screaming crazies on their nearest side.
So now Republicans become little Hitlers, and Democrats become dopey Hippies. Were not. Well, most of us.
Republicans have become known as rabid “win no matter how wrong” Rovites. They don’t care what they are fighting for; that’s immaterial. It is an extremist “worship winning” perspective that trashes Fairness, Justice, Morality, Law, and Integrety.
They mis-see it as “Strength”.
It bleeds into kid’s sports and you get the raving coach or fan that starts kicking and punching if a point is not made or is made by the other team.
What we, as Americans, need to do is to call people on this behavior. Don’t remain silent. Show disapproval. Be brave and have some nads. It might make you unpopular, but I have sworn that if my Dad can live out of a foxhole in Anzio for three months fighting for America, then I can afford to be found “unpopular” (OMG!!) in a buffet-filled, climate-controlled gathering.
Last time I checked, we have free speech here. And let’s add Responsible to Free.

DUH!!! What else would you expect from a Democrat…? McCain hired libs to run his campaign…. And now they are trashing Palin. As Gomer would say surprisseeeee surprisssssssssse!!! lol

Posted by: johnny | October 5, 2009, 12:37 pm 12:37 pm

Who cares what John McCain’s campaign manager said?? He ran a losing campaign and is looking to shift the blame on anyone but himself.
It’s time to stop with the Sarah Palin obsession. If republicans have any chance of regaining lost political footing, they need to stop this in-party bickering and start uniting.

I like Sarah Palin, many of you who criticize her so viciously are probably either less educated than her, men who can’t get past her being pretty or you graduated from an “Elite University” and the thought of an average college graduate is beneath you. I am an educated (Master’s), white female, Navy Veteran, mother of three who works for the Federal Government….I like her! You all just love to hate her

” I’m a liberal democrat”….”I’m a lifelong republican”. Statements like these presented as if they were a badge of honor are in fact a position of weakness, an admission of your need to run in the safety of the pack, where there’s strength in numbers, and fear is disguised as courage. In fact, your all gang members. So when I hear you badmouth the only candidate the I’ve seen that has courage, it makes me smile. Though I do not feel she is ready for the position of POTUS, Sarah Palin has taken everything you jokers have thrown at her, and she’s not backing down. If she ever does decide to run for President, I hope she dumps the GOP on their big fat butts and runs as an independent. Her appeal is her moxy. Maybe that’s what scares you Sarah-haters so much. She doesn’t live in constant fear the way you do. You call her a quitter because your vision is impaired, and perspective is not a concept you embrace. You make an issue of her religious beliefs, all while your trying to impose your beliefs on the rest of us. And you can’t see the damning difference. Good luck with that. My advice to you is that you should keep being spoon fed the BS that your political party is feeding you, and keep chanting that zombie like rhetoric that hit all the talking points of those who spin the truth so well. But by all means, stay away from Sarah Palin if you don’t like confrontation. You”ll see less action trying to catch a wolverine.
