NOW President on President Obama’s All-Male Athletic Outings: ‘It’s Troubling’
We asked Terry O'Neill, the new president of the National Organization for Women, what she thought of those Democratic women and others quietly complaining about a "boy's club" atmosphere at the White House, as exemplified by the president playing basketball earlier this month with 11 members of Congress and four Cabinet Secretaries — all men. As the New York Times and cable news chatter looked at whether the Obama White House is too fratty yesterday, President Obama brought along a woman golf partner for the first time in his 24 golf outings as president, domestic policy adviser Melody Barnes. Is this much ado about nothing? O'Neill says no. "Relationships get built in those more informal settings," O'Neill told ABC News, "and the relationships have a huge impact on the influence an individual has. We know what happens when we segregated whether it by race or whether it by gender — you end up with 1st class citizens and you end up with 2nd class citizens." O'Neill told ABC News' Mike Callahan, "we need to see the White House leading the way for desegregating the work places all around the country and it is troubling." Health and Human Services Secretary Sebelius played basketball for Trinity University in Washington, D.C. The day before the all-male White House hoops game, Jay Leno asked her who might win a game of HORSE between her and the president. "You know I actually made my college basketball team," she said as the crowd laughed. "I'm not sure he did so you know, bring it on." Sebelius is #21 below.
In his first year, President Obama has appointed more women to his Cabinet and Cabinet-level positions — seven out of 22 positions — than any president before him. President George W. Bush appointed four women to positions of that status; President Bill Clinton appointed six. But to O'Neill that's not enough. "It’s extremely important now especially for the president to have as many women as men in his closest circle of advisors. … If women had been at the heads of the companies on Wall Street instead of these masters of the universe then we might not be in the predicament that we’re in today." She says the ratio "needs to be 50/50. Women are 52 percent of the voting public so obviously there needs to be 50/50 of any Cabinet." — jpt Photo credit: Trinity University in Washington, D.C.

GOP Rap: 'Take America Back'
Afghanistan Timeline Realistic?
That would of course assume that women aspire to those sorts of positions as much as men do, which is a bit at odds with reality and human nature.
Men and women generally treasure different aspects of life, and have different sorts of priorities.
Obviously Obama should pick women that are well qualified for the job if there are applicable candidates, but where does this NOW person think he’s going to find 50% women to fill these cabinet positions?
Even though I didn’t vote for Obama, I’m pretty sure he tried his best to get as many women in there as he could.
There’s a reason why men dominate politics, and it’s not just because men are sexist #####.

Sorry, am not terribly interested in adding to Gender-as-Divisive-Issue in an already dangerously divided nation. However, I do wonder how many West Wingers were born outside the United States (not including the President, of course – since I know you block “birthers”). My question is a serious one, and I imagine the answer is unprecedented — much like everything else these days.

Eric “the Judge” Holder sayin’ he’s going to go “Downtown” on the urban czar while Tim “The Money” Geithner catches a pass from Barack “Michael Jordan” Obama who scores a triple double and dunks from the free throw line. The transportation secretary gets called for “traveling” all the time while some high-spending Democrat from Congress gets called for “charging” when he tries to swing the ball around to the left. The Air Force secretary was lucky to get invited to play and is known for “droppin’ bombs” from the 3 point line. Meanwhile, Hillary steps onto the court, bleary-eyed from her excommunication trip to whoknowswhere, kicks the POTUS in the rear-end, steals the ball, and screams at everyone to get back to work.

But she didn’t make it long, she ended up on the pavement with a bloody face. I play hard and I don’t let up just because of gender. Needless to say, she never asked to play basketball again. :)

Most married men that hug out with women when on their free time would probably be in trouble with their wiives. Yet we want to place as many women around him as possible.
He is happily married with a nice family. Creating close bonds with a nother women seems a little dangerous.

Listen I’m with President this much to do about nothing; as soon as I see a woman carry a back pack of 70 – 100 lb. and run 20 miles with weapon in hand then I’ll say women are physical enough to play with the big boys! Women just want to control an or be apart of everything that men do, sometime guys want to hang out with the fellows and not have to watching what we say or do about everything in front of a woman. The President is trying to level the playing field not just for women but for everybody in America and I feel you women are just nit picking the man because he dose cause about these issue. This man has done more for women issue in 9 month than anyone in recent memory. Obama attempts to silence anyone who does not agree with his doctrine.

This is a huge issue, and I’m glad NOW is finally addressing something important. If Obama just played golf or basketball with white men only, or just with black men only, there would be an uproar on the basis of race. The way Obama treated Hillary during the primaries indicated to me that he has low regard for women. So this news is even more meaningful.
Remember when Obama ridiculed the Special Olympics? See, he’s really no different than the white men, and just like them, he has to prove himself over and over to those of us who have been discriminated against. Look how he’s thrown abortion rights under the bus! He has a long way to go and this is just a start.

Posted by: David in ATL | October 26, 2009, 11:22 am 11:22 am
Maybe he isn’t playing basketball with women for one of these two reasons:
1. Men and women play basketball separately, hence NBA vs. WNBA, why isn’t NOW up in arms about that?
2. Maybe there aren’t any women in congress who are both a) capable of playing basketball at the level at which Obama plays (and by all accounts he’s decent), and b) young enough to physically participate without throwing out a hip flexor.
So NOW wants everything Obama does to have 50% women involved. So if he goes to the movies, he better do a head count to ensure half the audience are women. While he’s at it, he better make sure he has an exact match to the national average for all demographics. For example, (made up percentages to follow) He better have 0.4% little persons in the audience, oh and 0.001% gay littler persons with amputated legs because otherwise he’s purposefully excluding that group.

The press is so anti-Obama that every breath he takes must be criticized. Even an idiot could imagine the photo with a woman in the shot and the comments that would be coming from the media and the public. I played basketball with males before – it is brutal and not appropriate for ladies. Places get touched that shouldn’t – e.g. breasts on checks and rear ends when guarding. The president likes basketball – why criticize him for a game with the closest thing he has to peers. He can’t just do a drive by and play street ball. Give us a break.

Seriously there are a few issues at hand.
1. Obama plays basketball with a woman… This is news why?
2. Service men and women are giving their lives and in the past 2 days there has been bloodshed and lives lost.
3. Obama gives a handful of minutes to talk with his Commander of the forces deployed in war at this time.
4. Republicans and some Democrats (Mainly BlueDogs) are still against Obama in regards to the invisible / non-existent health-care bill.
I am glad Obama finds the time to take off, play golf, play basketball, do tv and radio interviews consistently but cannot find time to speak with his commanders on the ground, not find time to speak with republicans and be bipartisan, and even stop giving money to the rich instead of taking care of the American people.

“Wow, Barry only has 25 minutes to spend talking to his Afghanistan Commander in the last 6 months”
David in ATL | Oct 26, 2009 11:22:45 AM
That is a lie. Obama met with him personally in the Whitehouse over the summer prior to his selection and recently did have a short face to face during the Olympics trip. When that is added to the video and teleconferences he has participated in, the total time speaking to him is greater than 25 minutes by any math you want to use.
Although personally, I don’t have a problem with Obama using the established chain of command and reporting structure. It is there for a reason, and we’ve had more grief from Presidents micromanaging field generals than from Presidents using the military’s set reporting and advice structure.

3. Obama gives a handful of minutes to talk with his Commander of the forces deployed in war at this time.
Joseph | Oct 26, 2009 11:41:23 AM
If you would refer to the Constitution, McChrystal is NOT the Commander of the forces. If you would refer to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, he’s not even the top of the military chain of command. There is a reason for this. McChrystal does not have any grasp of the political endgame or international (Pakistan primarily) ramifications of actions taken in the Afghanistan theater – and he shouldn’t. It’s not his job or a good use of his time. And that’s why a chain of command exists and why this decision is taking so long.
Putting an extra 100k of our men and women into that meat grinder may give us the best chance of achieving our nation building goal, but if that chance is still only 10% and we push Pakistan over the edge, well – pull our kids out and send in the Airforce as needed.

Even if Michelle wasn’t jealous, which she probably wouldn’t be, I think it could cause some awkward moments and photo opps, particularly in politics– where adultery isn’t exactly unheard of on either side of the aisle :>)
Time to start up a co-ed softball, volleyball or bowling league (as if there’s time for that!) although at the last corporation I worked for three different affairs got started on either the volleyball court or softball diamond and intensified over the pizza and beer afterward. I get the thing about access and getting to know the boss, but given the last Democrat that was President… I don’t know. I could see why propriety could be a concern.
The President heard the criticism and Melody Barnes went golfing. I’m good with that. I’m sure there will be more of the same. I imagine there’s a HORSE tourney between him and Kathleen Sebelius in the works for some point in the near future. We’ll see.

Basketball is a very physical sport. It doesn’t seem appropriate with the amount of touching that happens while blocking for men and women to play together.
I would think that Obama is showing how much respect he has for women by the number of females he has appointed to important positions. Also, when Obama signed the Lily Ledbetter bill, giving workers the right to sue for lost wages, when equal jobs didn’t pay equally in a company, he showed that he wants a level playing field for everyone on the job.
NOW sounds silly to make this an issue. There are so many real problems for women in the world, why aren’t they vocal about them?

Shirley… You need to check yourself as obviously you were never deployed in the Armed forces and do not know your chain of command.
McChrsytal is in charge of the front. He is the man with the plan as the BATTLEFIELD commander.
We have now waited months for ANY reply of the needs of the military and even McChrystal stated that he submitted a minimalistic number in order to get approval. He actually wanted MORE to serve the mission.
Point of fact is, support the war or remove the soldiers from the environment if you are not going to support it.
How is this you ask? If a person in charge of conflict down to the squad level (4-10 people) requires another squad, it is sent immediately. Instead of one man watching your back wouldn’t you prefer 3-5 men? Makes sense doesn’t it? You protect soldiers by force and numbers. This isn’t an air-war, this is close combat in urban built up areas. Either provide personnel or provide a pull out. Do not put soldiers in harms way while you “think” of a decision after the 12th game of golf, 4th basketball event, 13th TV interview, 15th radio address, or any of the democrat campaigning trips. Notice I didn’t say anything about his family off-time? But as COMMANDER IN CHIEF, it is his decision and responsibility.
Soldiers sear an oath to follow all orders and their Commander in Chief. without any word from their CIC, how do you think the soldiers are feeling at this day and time?
Reflect what these soldiers put on the line and what they have given not just for our hundreds of years of who we are as Americans, but for what they have done for all other countries by promoting peace, civility, and a voice to those that had none.

He isn’t very good at sports and his massive ego cannot stand being outplayed by a woman.
He is way worse than an athletic woman at golf, baseball, or bowling.
The only sport where Obama doesn’t look like a dork is basketball. A good woman b-ball player could beat him at that too.

When you have to blatantly lie, it indicates your argument is weak. The TRUTH is that for months the military in Afghanistan has been receiving additional troops. The doubling of forces Obama started within 30 days of being sworn in is still deploying. Suggesting the military has been left hanging with no support, as they were for the last 7 years, when IN DOCUMENTED REALITY they have additional troops coming in every day is a lie.
Since you know the military, tell us how long it will take in our current force posture to deploy an additional 40k troops (bearing in mind the 30k deployment just being completed and the current drain from the last 7 years on reserves and National Guard)? Is the hold up really getting the order from the top, or are the necessary draw downs in Iraq and troop leave happening regardless of the final re-deployment decision? If your argument can take it, try to be honest.

Zoolander does not care if troops die in Afghanistan due to his inaction. He is worried about how he looks on the links.
By the way, I think his new Blue Steel serious look is really working for him.
And it looks like we are going to get a healthcare (err health insurance) system that mainly helps insurance companies.

Obama looks good at basketball because the guys around him are taking it easy on an old man.
Obama is 48 y/old and he smokes.
I bet his knees are killing him and he is gasping for air.
But the “tingly” media only shows Obama blocking a shot.
Another fraud to make Obama look like something he is not.

There are way more important issues than who the president plays sports with. Who cares?!! As long as the president’s policies benefit women then it shouldn’t matter if he plays sports with women. He is a man he should be able to spend time with other men. This is the dumbest story that the media decided to jump on.

Fox is booming.
The Wall Street Journal now has the largest circulation, taking the lead from left-leaning USA Today.
Conservatism is booming (see Gallop for details).
The hard-left New York Times is laying off another 150 staff.
Hard-left CNN viewership is down 30 percent.
Hard-left MSNBC viewership is down 10 percent.
41 percent of Americans now strongly disapprove of Obama versus 29 percent who approve (see Rasmussen).
Despite the breathy assertions from the Obama Kool Aid Kids, the public is moving away from Obama and the hard left at a very, very rapid pace.
Keep the faith, Americans. We WILL take the country back from the arrogant, incompetent buffoons in the White House.

As for the now lady talking about making everything 50/50 since they make up 52% of population. Is the NFL or NBA 70%+ white? If that is the way they want to do things then do it all the way.
We talk about outrageous salaries on Wall Street, how about actors, athletes, TV personalities? They are mostly democrat/liberals so they can make whatever they want?

Blatently lie… Nice way to start it off.
1. The TRUTH is that for months the military in Afghanistan has been receiving additional troops.
- These are SUPPORT TROOPS. Cooks, medics, mechanics, supply. Not COMBAT troops.
2. Your following statement… 7 years, and they continue to get more troops. I say again, SUPPORT Troops… Did I praise Bush in any of my statements, don’t think so. He was fighting other fronts and didn’t designate resources for Afghanistan or work well enough with other international resources to provide. So if you think I am just a right wing Obama basher, think again.
3. tell us how long it will take in our current force posture to deploy an additional 40k troops (bearing in mind the 30k deployment just being completed and the current drain from the last 7 years on reserves and National Guard)?
It would only take 1 to 2 weeks to deploy that many without hurried resources. Realistically it would only take 24 hours. You reference 30k more troops… Once again, these are SUPPORT Troops, not Combat.
The drain on reserves and NG? Seriously? God forbid if any of the overweight, school only kids get real-life training and deployment status in order to serve and protect. Yes, god forbid if someone with the name of SOLDIER gets deployed anywhere. Get with the program.
4. Is the hold up really getting the order from the top, or are the necessary draw downs in Iraq and troop leave happening regardless of the final re-deployment decision? If your argument can take it, try to be honest.
The actual decision comes from Congress. The actual point comes from the President. Commanders do not speak with congress, especially when congress turns them down and tells them they do not want to discuss it… Check that fact as well. The President is a figure head. He actually has power when it comes to declaring war and the kind but that lasts for a short time until congress convenes and ya’s or nays it. Right now the only one that has been getting info is the President. Even as small as that info is, he has received it.
He appointed McChrystal to give him the best on the ground analysis and tactic recommendation. Either the President says yes, or he says no. Either way, it is his decision and it doesn’t take months to have an answer with soldier’s lives and families on the line.

Ooooh. Nice. I want to read a sensible response, too. Many of the neocon assertions don’t make a heck of a lot of sense to me as I’ve said on other threads.
And I’d throw in the Afghan winter– as its not like a final decision four weeks ago or three weeks from now is going to get troops on the ground in Afghanistan prior to spring no matter what from all accounts I’ve heard.
Also, when Joseph and others say it’s been “months” I’d love to know exactly what they’re talking about and how many months, weeks, days it’s been and how that compares to the amount of time taken to make similar decisions by other admins. So far, it seems in line with the amount of time other admins have taken, even ones given to making life and death decisions by the inclinations of one wealthy cowboy’s “gut.”

Okay, so why have I read that even if the President made the decision in early September, troops wouldn’t have been sent till spring due to the coming harsh Afghan winter? And if that’s true, and what you say is true, won’t troops still arrive in early spring as they would have?

“1. The TRUTH is that for months the military in Afghanistan has been receiving additional troops.

You said: “We have now waited months for ANY reply of the needs of the military”
Do you understand what a lie is? I suppose those 13,000 useless engineers, medical personnel, intelligence experts and military police do not meet ANY needs of the military. Why did he even bother dispatching them at the start of this month I wonder? I mean, you dismiss them as not meeting ANY of the needs of the military.
“3. tell us how long it will take in our current force posture to deploy an additional 40k troops (bearing in mind the 30k deployment just being completed and the current drain from the last 7 years on reserves and National Guard)?

Once again, you lied when you said, “We have now waited months for ANY reply of the needs of the military.”
And you are delusional if you think there are 40,000 soldiers ready and rested for immediate deployment to Afghanistan, although recruiting is up now that the military is about the only place hiring.
“He appointed McChrystal to give him the best on the ground analysis and tactic recommendation. Either the President says yes, or he says no. Either way, it is his decision and it doesn’t take months to have an answer with soldier’s lives and families on the line.”

Yes it does take months.
I remember similar simplistic ranting while Obama was competently handling the pirate hostage situation in Somalia. This decision doesn’t require political soundbites or grandstanding to protect Obama’s polls, it requires being made correctly. And the decision is far more than what is needed to best pursue the military suppression of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

“What the party is finding, though, is that the electricity of 2008 is tough to recapture. Some Democratic candidates running for local office around the country call the phenomenon the ‘Obama Hangover.’ It is proving tougher to recruit volunteers and get people to vote.
“’It’s like the morning after the party,’ said Michael McGann, a Democrat running for clerk of courts in the Philadelphia suburbs. ‘The party was wonderful and exciting. The day after it’s like, ‘Gee, I don’t want to do that again for a while.’
“Oba’a is trying to inspire voters with the “fired up; ready to go’ fervor that made last year’s race riveting political theater.
“But Democratic candidates are hard pressed to scratch out victories this year in the New Jersey and Virginia governor’s races, and in a congressional race in upstate New York’s 23d District.”
The Republicans have fielded doofuses in both the NJ Governor and NY23 races.
But in both cases if Dems win it will be with 40% of the vote. For an incumbent NJ Democrat governor to get 40% of the vote is a signal about the mood of the electorate, as reflected in polls of registered and likely voters.

Scene: White house back yard. Obama is shooting some hoops with the fellas. It’s a sunny day and the smells of BBQ and beer waft lightly on the summer day as Yo-Yo Ma is blasting on the radio on the basket ball court floor. Terry O’Neill walks up to Obama wearing her usual easy spirit flats and brown skirt and large sweater.
Obama – “Hey Terry! You want to play some one-on-one?”
Terry-”Oh my GOD! I can’t believe you made a pass at me!”
Obama – “Wha-what?”
Terry – “You totally made a pass at me you man-pig!”
Obama – “N-no I didn’t. You said you wanted to chill with me and I should have more women in my social circles.”
Terry – “I didn’t say that, I said you should let women make your decisions. You know, because we are so different than men; and we negate reason from our thought process and use pure instinct. You betcha’!”
(sound of bouncing basket ball and rubber hitting road)
Terry-”Hey where did he go?”
Pelosi-(walks up eating a Snickers bar, and wipes chocolate from her mouth with her sleeve)”He said something about Man Cave, and ran that way.”
Terry-”Obamaaaaaa!”

Do women really want to play a contact sport with a bunch of guys? If sex should not matter, then why have a separate WNBA. Look, NOW, there are sports that women and men can play together, but basketball and for that matter football ain’t them. You can cause a bunch of “complications” where physical contact is involved, so just leave the hoopers alone.

NOW is a socially irrelevant organization. These whiners do not represent the majority of women in the country. These are frustrated, nasty bullies who don’t really care about women. They want their own private agenda pushed – liberalism, lesbianism, and making men more like women. What hogwash.
I love to play basketball, but I sure wouldn’t want to play with a bunch of sweaty men. I also like to quilt, and I think I’d have a hard time finding any men who would like to sit in on our weekly meetings.
It’s time that these out-of-touch bozos of NOW realize that men and women are DIFFERENT and there is nothing wrong with men doing things with men and women doing things with women. I bet if some man tried to sue a women’s only health club, NOW would get their thongs in a bunch and demand that man be strung up. But if a woman sues a men’s only health club, that’s equality.

Read some of the comments left by women here. Many of us don’t agree at all with NOW on this subject. Personally, basketball is a rough game with too much physical contact for it to be seemly for men and women to play together. That is just one reason why men and women don’t play together professionally.
NOW, I am so disappointed you would chose to focus on such a silly topic, when women in many parts of the world live in such desperate, powerless situations.

Let the guys shoot some hoops.

Appointing women, just for the sake of having women in high ranking positions is foolish. Miss O’neill, do you even stop to think what is best for our country? We need people that are experienced and qualified. If they are women, appoint them. If they are men, appoint them. Stop using your gender to take advantage over those who may be more suited for the White House.

If so, do you ever, you know, plan on using it for serious reporting?

I cannot believe the ABC Senior White House Correspondent is writing this garbage. It’s not even a non-story. It’s just….nothing. You should be utterly ashamed.

I admire you, Jake Tapper.
You’re a true journalist. I stop by to say “Bravo you”, JT!
Posted by: talk of sf | October 26, 2009, 4:51 pm 4:51 pm
I’m sure JT will be blamed by some … This is the tactic called TRASH they used. Shame. I was a long time DEM turned into Independent. I have no party now. This is the CHANGE OBAMA BROUGHT TO ME. Thanks, OBAMA. Don’t play the blame game any more. As a long time DEM, I am not going to buy it. Please focus on HC, the AGH. War, The job market. You promised 8.5 UNEMP. RATE, what is the figure NOW? Hitting 10 %. Don’t try to blame anyone. You are the one to blame, as well as the MSM who pushed you to the seat though you ARE NOT QUALIFIED !!!!!!!!

Good lord Tapper, is this what you dream up when you’re bored or when you aren’t defending your ‘sister’ network?
Gods, you are a joke. All you Villagers are a joke. You think the rest of us unwashed rubes out here in flyover country don’t see your ridiculous sense of entitlement and bias?

Isn’t great Obama has time to play golf and basketball while people around him are losing their jobs and homes.
Hey what does he care his family is in the white house taking family portraits without a care. Him and his administration caused all the probems.
He is going to be here in Fla. I wouldn’t walk across the street to listen to him and more of his lies

NOW is a joke. Believe me, I KNOW!! Thanks davidfrat21!
Posted by: Kathleen Willey | October 26, 2009, 5:35 pm 5:35 pm
This is only an issue because Obama promised to be different. He is not different. He is just another man in the White House doing his frat boy things. I don’t even see anyone in the media complaining that he’s played more golf in 1 year than Bush did in three. I thought in his innaugural address Obama said this was the time to “put away childish things.”
Now I realize he was only talking about the rest of us who can’t afford to golf, and don’t have time to play hoops because we’re working three jobs trying to put food on the table while he gives away a trillion of our tax money to meaningless pork projects that devalue the dollar and shackle future generations with unbearable obligations.
Go Sarah 2012! Show the boys how it’s done.

if obama want to play basketball with the guys, he should bring in a team from one of the more that 100 colleges in the area.
That way he doesn’t have to exclude the women in his admin.
….
As to golf, the only excuse for his 30 matches and no women, is that he is an , and that the women are simply their as tokens..
Imagine if a white president had excluded all blacks… would you see an issue with that?
Posted by: Doggone | October 26, 2009, 6:38 pm 6:38 pm
Obama’s top two advisors: Valerie Jarret and Michelle Obama. And as you said, he’s appointed more female cabinet secretaries than any previous president.
Tapper, you really are an idiot. Please see about getting reassigned to the page 6 beat.

Kudos to those women who think they can hold their own with the president and his friends on the basketball court, but I’d imagine that most truly progressive women would hardly begrudge Obama his opportunities to shoot some hoops with the guys. And if this represents ABC’s attempt to portray the president as some sort of insensitive sexist, then that is certainly a real stretch.
Posted by: Donald from Hawaii | October 26, 2009, 6:49 pm 6:49 pm
The media drools over Obama because he is so fit and in shape. Really?
Why? Because he is thin and plays afew games of half-court basketball.
Obama smokes. And half-court basketball with guys that want to make Obama look good is not that strenuous.
Let’s see how fit he really is.
Obama should play full court basketball with a few WNBA players.
Obama would be gasping for air in less than 5 minutes.

amazing that liberals critiqued Bush for supposedly ‘playing more then working, then reality hits them and they do everything to ignore what Obama really is a preening peacock who is all talk.
Obama in 9 months has played as much golf as Bush did in 3 years, and this is before Bush gave up all Golf in 2004, take into the account that Obama has also had more parties at the White-House in 8 months then Bush did in 8 years, and then add Obama flying to Copaghan and talk-show circuit tours, please it’s obvoius to anyone Obama’s in way over his head and if the media were as critical with his administration has previous administration Obama’s approval would at 20%, the 20% of the country that’s calling themselves liberal.

“Obama in 9 months has played as much golf as Bush did in 3 years,”
Wow….of course Bush took off the ENTIRE MONTH of August his first year after 4 vacations prior.
“and this is before Bush gave up all Golf in 2004″
He did it for the troops.

I don’t like what Obama is doing in general but who he chooses to enjoy games with is his business. Besides why would a man want to play bball with a woman. Or golf unless she is really good. Leave the sports men play alone and let the girls find their own game.
Posted by: Lou | October 26, 2009, 9:34 pm 9:34 pm
these are funny posts. i owned sports bars singles bars for 20 years, all my higher ups, my management positions were female; they were more honest, not thinking about p… well girls, and how to impress, but i played golf every day for 22 yrs with all men. cause they shot 72-85 and no woman could keep up and play the dollar amount we were gambling for. if they could have, they would have been invited. not sexist realist

I wish republicans had held Bush up to the same standards they seem to apply to this one. Like when Bush had the most vacation days EVER? They could have fussed about that. If I remember correctly it was also during this time that the republicans set a record for fewest days worked in congress.

Obama is an old man! And he smokes.
Those guys playing b-ball with him look half his age.
Does he give them kickbacks to take it easy on him?
I bet he needs oxygen and a wheelchair after a quick game.

This woman needs to really find something to do with her time.
This is petty, period. As for the President golfing on weekends, I have no problem with that, at least he isn’t “clearing brush ” endlessly in Texas for months on end.

when is barack NOT ‘on vacation’ ?? daily golfing, nightly parties, shopping in paris, catching a broadway show, holding ‘beer summits’, sunning on a hawaiian beach, playing basketball, vacationing at martha’s vineyard, going out for a burger, playing star wars on the whitehouse lawn, …need i go on ?

But there are women there Terry! They are picking up the towels and washing the men’s gym clothes after they prepare lunch and bring cold beers all around. It’s great serving your new president isn’t it?

This is the same NOW who supported Slick Willy after he was caught exploiting a subordinate worker for personal gratification–in the workplace while his family slept upstairs! NOW that’s standing up for the rights of women!
After denying it under oath and sending out everybody including his wife to lie for him, then getting impeached for it–years later Bill admitted to doing it. But we just can’t help but to love him!

It’s a catch 22. If women were playing then there would be reports of the president messing around with the women or inappropriate touching on the court. Why don’t we worry about more important things rather than a stupid basketball game.

Terry is right. Martha Burke taught us about this when 490 of the Fortune 500 CEO’s are teeing off at Augusta. Excluding women is the point of clubs and games. Choose a game that is inclusive and let the relationships have a level playing field.

THIS is exactly what you get when you promise EVERYTHING to EVERYONE to get elected. Obama made ridiculous promises to every prominent political group in the country (women, liberals, minorities, hispanics, illegal aliens, the elderly, unions, teachers, banks, and on and on and on). AND NOW….all those folks wanna be paid back…and there’s no way he can make everyone happy. Didn’t you see this coming?
Posted by: jjolive1111 | October 27, 2009, 4:32 pm 4:32 pm
Who cares?
Obama is a hypocrite as are the vast majority of liberals.
You’re running the risk of being accused of “racism” here Jake & being banned from the press pool, lol.
“Your taxes in order Tapper?”
Posted by: A. Lincoln | October 27, 2009, 7:34 pm 7:34 pm
What’s interesting is that it seems Obama calls in the press photographers to take pictures of him playing with his pals. It’s apparently not enough of an ego trip that he can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants, and with whomever he wants — he needs to be photographed doing it!

If something is bull, that’s what it is-on or off the golf course. Is every man that golfs really into the game? O’neil makes a valid point of women being a majority, but we don’t have the comradiary of men. And, Secondlook is dead on, if that’s your thing–thats what you do. NOT GENDER NOT RELIGION NOT RACE

n October, 2009, the greatest numbers of USA troops, fifty-five had passed away in Afghanistan War while the president of USA has too much enjoy lavish sports, trip, and musical in Broadway. I do believe that Cheny was right to POINT OUT that Obama has been afraid to make a right decision
about the War. I’ve missed GWB who stopped playing Golf because of thinking of USA troops in the spot of War and prayed for American safe everyday. THANKS GEORGE W. BUSH !!!

Comments like “If women had been at the heads of the companies on Wall Street instead of these masters of the universe then we might not be in the predicament that we’re in today” Bother me so much. We shouldn’t be including women in power because they are somehow immune to egotism, greed and shortsightedness; they’re not. We should be including women in power because we need the best possible people with the best possible ideas, and that means not just getting advice from people who look like you, or play your favorite sport, or come from your home state etc etc.

What is more troubling to me is that The Man Child thinks he has so much extra time to play basket ball. But I almost forgot that his many Czars are busy running everything for him, so that he has plenty of time to run around and play.
