Obama Featured in Deeds TV Ad: “Get Fired Up (Again),” Virginia

ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports: In a refrain that helped President Obama turn Virginia from red to blue during the 2008 presidential election, the Creigh Deeds gubernatorial campaign today released a new TV ad entitled "Fired Up" which features President Obama – and only President Obama. The Democratic gubernatorial candidate is behind in the polls to Republican Bob McDonnell. After some hesitation from the campaign if President Obama – whose own poll numbers have took a hit in Virginia since becoming President -would help or hurt the campaign, they have, it appears, embraced the presidential pulpit. The ad tries to drum up that same spirit that flipped the commonwealth for Obama during the presidential election, and say this will be essential to their get-out-the-vote effort leading up the Election Day. "Last year, Virginia, you helped lead a movement of Americans who believed that their voices could make a difference," The President says in the 30 second ad, "That's what we need to do in this race. That's what Creigh Deeds is committed to." Images of Mr. Obama's presidential campaign are juxtaposed with images of Deeds campaigning throughout Virginia. "I need every one of you to get fired up once again so that we can go towards the future, with Creigh Deeds leading the great Commonwealth of Virginia," the President says. The ad uses footage from President Obama's August appearance for Deeds in Northern Virginia. On Tuesday the President will once again campaign with Deeds, at Old Dominion University. -Sunlen Miller

Please Virginia.
Send a strong and clear message to Obama.
His idea of change is not what we had in mind. High taxes, reckless spending, corporate welfare, government takeover and power grabs–tell them
No More!!

Meanwhile, back in reality, the stimulus bill included over $200 billion in tax cuts (called “spending” now by Republicans). The only tax that has increased since Obama took office is the cigarette tax. But again, don’t let reality stand in the way of your opinion.

People are Fired Up and ready to take our country back before it is destroyed.
Obama’s promise of changing the way DC does business is one big joke. And how about how Pelosi has “drained the swamp” of corruption.
I guess Obama’s Era of Responsibility meant bankrupting the country, bowing down to our enemies, endangering our troops, taking over our lives, and taking away our freedom.
We’re fired up alright.

Deeds might have better luck if he promises some “Obama Money” handouts from the stimulus.
The lure of Obama Money drew a pretty big crowd in Detroit.
When will the O-Bots wake up.

Not to worry – the people who voted for Obama, for the most part, won’t be at the polls this time.
We figure if we refuse to fix up the NOVA roads for them, they’ll go ruin some other state. They poison everything they touch.

“Refundable Tax Credits” are not tax cuts and, as everyone now knows, they do nothing to benefit the economy. They are simply short-term transfer payments, and they have spent their force even as unemployment has climbed to 9.8%.
Men are dying in Afghanistan while this hapless tyro dithers. Now ther’s something we can all get fired up about.

“The only tax that has increased since Obama took office is the cigarette tax.”
What keeps businesses from hiring is the certainty of some of the tax increses to come (under existing law in 2011), and the paralyzing uncertainty about others, e.g. Obamacare mandates and penalties. That’s why 3 million Americans have lost their jobs under this poor clown.

Fasicist Hyena | Oct 21, 2009 1:51:40 PM
You mean the tax increases put in place under the Republican administration? Yeah, that’s all Obama’s fault I suppose.
And what is your explanation for the FACT that under the Republicans there were a number of tax cuts (taxes are lower than in almost a century now!) and we ended up with a quarter the job creation we had under Clinton’s modest tax increases, a banking collapse, a historic recession, and a MASSIVE increase in national debt handcuffing any efforts to deal with the recession. The national deficit was forecast by the CBO in January – before Obama took office and explicitly excluding any stimulus costs – to be $1.2 trillion (feel free to google it up, it’s documented reality). It’s amazing that it came in at only $1.4 even after $200 billion+ in tax relief and $500 billion in infrastructure and other spending in the stimulus.
Republicans can pass the buck all they want, but they are either responsible for the recession or incredibly incompetent to not prevent it.

UPDATED: Beck, Drudge, WND, Fox Nation falsely accuse Dunn of admitting White House “control” over news media
October 19, 2009 3:27 pm ET
WorldNetDaily, followed by the Drudge Report and Fox Nation, falsely claimed that during a January 12 speech, White House communications director Anita Dunn boasted about the White House’s “control” over the media. In fact, Dunn was discussing the Obama campaign’s strategy for controlling the campaign’s message, not the media; moreover, her comments were made before Obama had taken office and before she became communications director.

Nah. There’s a question mark there. It’s a question, a “fair” question, you know, like Jake’s question. Maybe not a good or probing or substantial or significant question, but a “fair” one. People have the right to ask, because a lot of us wondered whether or not he could tell the difference. So, just in case he’s stumped, the article offers up examples of how they’re different. And yes, it refers only to Fox’s “news” shows, not the opinion programming.

“But the White House campaign appears to be backfiring. A number of mainstream journalists are reacting badly to the attempt to declare a journalistic organization off-limits. Why the negative reaction? Is it because of solidarity among reporters? A reflexive defense of freedom of the press? Secret sympathy for Fox?
None of the above. The real reason the White House campaign is backfiring is that it offends journalistic self-esteem.” (Don’t you think the folks at CNN just love being patted on the head by White House political operatives and told, “you’re a nice little news organization. Good boy!”)

Ah, this parroted talking point. How surprising (not) that it came up. (Eyeroll.)
Let’s see… when Nixon didn’t like a news outlet, he directed federal prosecutors to investigate journalists down to their taxes. Nixon made an ACTUAL enemies lists, and used the power of his office to target and do his best to destroy his adversaries.
Meanwhile, Bush aggressively targeted his critics, the opposition party and credible institutions of journalism like the NYT, painting them all as unpatriotic and traitors who were actively encouraging terrorist attacks on our country.
As far as I’m concerned, you all need to get your story together– you’re forever claiming opposites are true at the same time. In this case, is the President a weak, naive, overly-conciliatory greenhorn, or is he a ruthless, cut-throat, political-machine boss out to destroy anyone who gets in his way. It’s ridiculous to claim he’s both, not that the sheer stupidity of claiming both at the same time will stop you all.

…Fascist Hyena still cites a study by some polisci TA that has the “final” results of the 2008 as 52% to 46% therefore making Rasmussen the “most accurate” pollster even though Pew had the same result.
Of course the results were actually 53 to 46…
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Hi Ryan. Check out who actually did the best.
Since the Rasmussen results (and Fascist) deal with the ‘spread’ let’s see how they did in the 2008 election.
Obama / McCain / Spread – Poll
52.9 / 45.6 / 7.3 – Final Results
53 / 46 / 7 – CNN/Opinion Research
53 / 46 / 7 – Ipsos/McClatchy
50 / 43 / 7 – FOX News
52 / 46 / 6 – Pew Research
52 / 46 / 6 – Rasmussen Reports
It looks like Rasmussen came in 5th place. Interestingly, they were behind FOX news. And, CNN and Ipsos nailed the ‘final results’…and the ‘spread’.

“… fewer than half of Americans agree with the president on issues important to them…”
I await the attack on the pollster. Clearly another messenger who must be shot.

“Dr. Costas Panagopoulos is Assistant Professor of Political Science and Director of the Center for Electoral Politics and Democracy and the graduate program in Elections and Campaign Management at Fordham University.”
ROFLMAO!
All those “qualifications” yet he used bogus numbers for his “analysis” which Rasmussen links to as evidence of their accuracy.
So you have an incompetent professor but that doesn’t matter to Rasmussen because his work is useful for marketing.

Fascist Hyena
What were the results of the 2008 Presidential election?
Was it 53% to 46% (rounding up both candidate’s tallies)?
Or was it 52% to 46% (rounding up only McCain’s total) as Dr. Costas Panagopoulos contends it was?

…according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll released Tuesday. A majority, 51 percent, disagree…

Very Impressive Fascist! Consider this the 1st step in your 12 step program towards recovery as a right-wing-aholic. Normally, the 1st step would be to actually admit that you are one, but that is an unrealistic goal at this point in your rehabilitation.
So, now that we’re looking at one of the most reliable polling sources, what do you say about the CNN/Opinion Research Corp. ‘President Job Approval’ numbers, and how they compare to the ‘issues important to them’ poll.
It is 55% approve and 43% disapprove.
What do you think is going on there?

New York Times:
“In the Senate’s first vote on health care spending this year, a bipartisan majority rejected the Democrat leadership’s attempt to add another quarter trillion dollars to the national credit card without any plan to pay for it,” Mr. McConnell said in a statement. “With a record deficit and a ballooning national debt, the American people are saying enough is enough. Today’s vote shows that this message is finally starting to get through to Congress. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come in the health care debate ahead.”

For my first step, I shall elect to quote once more, verbatim, from CNN:
“For the first time since Obama took office, fewer than half of Americans agree with the president on issues important to them, according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll released Tuesday. A majority, 51 percent, disagree — a jump of 10 percentage points since April.”
I realize that it pains the yokels to read such undisputed facts, but got educational purposes I shall continue to present them. Learn to deal with the pain; it will make you stronger.

“Overall, 47% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s performance. Fifty-three percent (53%) disapprove”
Try to be strong…

Yes, I understood that, and I agree with the choice of pollster and pool.
What I am wondering, is why we seem to have a contradiction in the CNN/Opinion Research Corp. polls.
This is because in an Oct 16 to Oct 18 poll of 1,038 Adults, 55% vs 43% approve of the job the President is doing.
So the question is this: What does it mean when?…
1) 51% “disagree with the President on issues important to them”, but
2) 55% ‘approve of the job he is doing’, and
3) 45% ‘disagree with the job he is doing’.
Do you have a hunch what this means?

Sorry Fascist…that is not correct using Rasmussen’s data.
20% ‘somewhat approve’ and 13% ‘somewhat disapprove’ of the President’s performance…for a +7 index!
You used the ‘Totals’ for your figures which gives an index of -6. But, that is better, because that is what Rasmussen did for Bush. And, it cuts the -13 index you have been using down to -6.
So, let’s go over this again to so you can see where the +7 came from and how Rasmussen works for the GOP.
The Rasmussen Poll has 4 answers as follows; 1) Strongly Approve, 2) Somewhat Approve, 3) Somewhat Disapprove, 4) Strongly Disapprove. ‘Total Approve’ and Total Disapprove’ are calculated from these. The Index = Approve-Disapprove.
Remember, ‘Total’ was emphasized when they polled for Bush, whereas ‘Strongly’ appears to be used exclusively now for Barack.
The following, using figures for Bush from May 2008 and the most recent Rasmussen data, illustrates the ‘Rasmussen GOP Bias’ then and now using the 4 answers.
Bush
View / Somewhat / Strongly / Total
Approve / 19% / 13% / 32%
Disapprove / 18% / 47% / 65%
Index / 1% / -34% / -33%
Obama
View / Somewhat / Strongly / Total
Approve / 20% / 27% / 47%
Disapprove / 13% / 40% / 53%
Index / 7% / -13% / -6%
As you can see Bush’s ‘Index’ was ‘better’ (even though still very bad) by Emphasizing ‘Total’.
And, Barack’s ‘Index’ is ‘significantly worse’ by using ‘Strongly’.
But the most interesting thing is what ‘Somewhat’ says because that is where the ‘swing vote’ is!
Also notice that ‘Somewhat’ is diametrically opposed to the ‘Strongly’.
So, why do you continue to use the ‘Rasmussen GOP-Biased Polls’ insted of the CNN polls?
