Today’s Qs For O’s WH
ABC News' Yunji de Nies reports: de Nies: Robert, yesterday in his speech the president said that, "Because of our efforts, Al Qaida and its allies have lost operational capability." What did he mean by that? Does he mean that they've lost the — or "capacity" rather — does he mean that they've lost the capacity to strike? GIBBS: I'm not going to get into discussing intelligence, but I think we have, as I was talking about with Jennifer, made, through cooperation with the Pakistanis, great progress in dealing with and downgrading and degrading Al Qaida. But I'm not going to get much further into intelligence matters.
de Nies: And the other question I think all of us want to know, I mean, are they going to discuss those numbers today at all in this meeting? GIBBS: I doubt it. But I'll have a better sense, obviously, when the — the meeting's over. But that's not — not that I'm aware of it's on the docket today. –Yunji de Nies

Gibbs the is the perfect WHPS. Plays at never knowing anything – unless it’s the Preseident’s bowling score. Then he’s all over it.
Reminds me of an old M.A.S.H. episode where the General says, “This is a press conference. The last thing we want to do is answer anyone’s questions.”

Obama just couldn’t bring himself to say “because of the Bush administration’s efforts…” (Recall that it was Al Qaeda that declared Iraq to be the central front in the jihad.)

WASHINGTON (AP) — Congressional analysts say the federal budget deficit tripled to a record $1.4 trillion for the 2009 fiscal year that ended last week.
The unprecedented flood of red ink flows from several factors, including a big drop in tax revenues due to the recession, $245 billion in emergency spending on the Wall Street bailout and the takeover of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Then there is almost $200 billion in costs from President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus bill.

Mr. Obama is deeply thinking about the “war of necessarity”, despite almost a year in office. What is often mistaken for deliberation is indecisiveness.

Yes, you aren’t kidding. The obama’s just chose some art for the white house. One piece is titled: “I think I’ll … ” by the California artist Ed Ruscha. It deals with the subject of indecision.

UK Telegraph:
“Barack Obama’s central failing in foreign policy has been his striking hesitation to project American global power and leadership, which in the eyes of America’s enemies and competitors translates as weakness and vulnerability. He has sacrificed US strength and influence on the altar of international popularity, as though the world were an extension of the stage of American Idol, and not a hugely dangerous place where the United States remains hated and reviled by those who seek its demise.”

Speaking of actual clowns, since someone mentioned clowns, the NRCC issued a press release criticizing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for saying it would be difficult to get Democratic House members to vote for additional troops in Afghanistan. OK, fair enough. They don’t like reality. That’s par for the course. But the NRCC decided to go well beyond partisan game playing. First, they implied that since the neocon’s new favorite guy, Gen. McChrystal, says we need 40,000 more troops, civilian leaders should just jump to attention and hand over whatever he wants immediately, no questions asked, forgetting that civilians set military policy here. In addition, the neanderthal NRCC states that “taxpayers can only hope that Gen. McChrystal is able to put her (Pelosi) in her place.” Put her– the Speaker of the House who had the temerity to express the realities of her party but who has said she remains agnostic on troop levels– in her place. Eyeroll. And what place would that be, party of sexist condescension? It’s a good question given that thirty white male Republican senators opposed accountability when it comes to gang rape. They didn’t want to offend or be unfair to Halliburton, one of the largest contributors to the GOP in American history.

makes one wonder why, for 8 long years the republicans went about so eagerly destroying the economy, and crushing the middle class.. I know that that was their intention but it’s weird to hear the ‘fringe right’ complain about deficits now..
it’s as if nothing Bush and the crime family did makes any difference and didn’t happen…
oh well.. that’s the typical republican thinking that was rejected, and why they lost

so, you think it’s unusual that after the US invaded Iraq, the enemies of america decided to join the fight in Iraq, .. Al Qaeda also declared Bush to be a dope and played him like a violin string.

“I can get into discussing intelligence”.
Wow, I said a mouthful with that one.
Sounds like something my comrade in Kool-Aid, Alyson from the West Wing, would have said.
Nothing to see here folks, why don’t we move on to the NAMBLA nut we installed as “Safe Schools Czar”…
Bobby out.

I think I’ll see if there are any cartoon shows on TV – they’re more in touch with reality than this administration (or the media that covers the amateur-hour White House).

Following the president’s inauguration, the percentage of voters who think the country is moving in the right direction moved up for several months before peaking at 40% in early May. It has fallen into the low- to mid-30s since then. It is 31% today.
All that hope–gone, all gone.

Bill Ayers recently admitted to writing Dreams. Literary analysis supports this assertion as do sources in another book by Christian Anderson.
Are you going to ask the WH about these assertions? How does the president feel about someone else claiming to write his book?

KABUL – A suicide car bomber detonated his vehicle outside the Indian Embassy in the bustling center of the Afghan capital Thursday, killing 17 people in the second major attack in the city in less than a month. The Afghan Foreign Ministry hinted at Pakistani involvement — a charge Pakistan denied.

You gotta show up to vote:
But midway through Obama’s first year in office, Hoyer’s House has settled into a more leisurely routine. Members usually arrive for the first vote of the week as the sun sets on Tuesdays, and they’re usually headed back home before it goes down again on Thursdays.

And also use your favorite internet search engine to look up what Oxley has to say about that at Financial Times “Oxley hits back at idealogues.” A quote for googling purposes: “Adamant that the only solution to the problems posed by Fannie and Freddie was their privatisation, the White House attacked the bill. Mr Greenspan also weighed in, saying that the House legislation was worse than no bill at all.
“We missed a golden opportunity that would have avoided a lot of the problems we’re facing now, if we hadn’t had such a firm ideological position at the White House and the Treasury and the Fed,” Mr Oxley says.”
Note where the ideological opposition came from. Moreover, the bill lacked a champion in the senate and an amendment was added that killed bipartisan support. Read the floor discussion that surrounded the bill. It’s available.

Another silly rabbit that fell for it. No worries, a surprising number of conservative folk were duped. I mean, who could imagine that Ayers might want to have some fun at the right wing’s express by sending them off on a silly goose chase seeking proof so he can get his royalties. LOL. What I hope is that the newspapers, the MSM and critical thinking news consumers are paying attention as a few too many folks on the right showed poor judgment and a willingness to run with any story they hoped was true in order to validate the ghosters. (shaking my head.)

Let’s remember Alyson’s ideological views – they are socialist – and take her position with a grain of salt. She is by no means the authority and neither is Oxley.
Google the true cause of the housing market crash, Bush’s attempt to regulate Fannie and Freddie, and then the resulting recession. There are your facts without copying and pasting.

Inspirational single-payer success story of the day, or “This Is What Your Grandchildren Can Look Forward To”:
A plumber whose arm was left twisted grotesquely out of shape in an accident ten months ago has had an operation to correct it ‘cancelled four times’.
Torron Eeles, 50, has been left unable to work since falling down the stairs and now fears he may lose his home after being denied incapacity benefit.
The father-of-three today hit out at the NHS for the ‘unacceptable delays’, but East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust said Mr Eeles had his operation cancelled on ‘only’ two occasions on clinical safety grounds.
