An Obama Thanksgiving Menu, with an Extra Serving of Pie

ABC's Yunji de Nies and Sara Just report: New First Family, new Thanksgiving Day menu.  The Bush Thanksgiving Day meal was nearly identical year to year, the family favorites no doubt returning annually to the table as they do for so many families.

After some clamoring from the sparse working-the-holiday press corps, the White House has released the Obamas’ Thanskgiving Day menu.

Gone are the zucchini gratin, the gazpacho and the pumpkin mousse trifle that were Bush family favorites.

The Obamas are having an equally plentiful meal. In addition to the traditional turkey, the family is having a honey baked ham. There will also be two kinds of stuffing (oyster and cornbread), macaroni and cheese, and six — yes, six — different kinds of pie.

The first family is hosting about 50 guests at the White House today, including family, friends and staff, according to the press office.

We are told that of all of the items on the generous table, the president’s favorites are turkey and pumpkin pie.

Here is the full menu:

Turkey
Honey-Baked Ham
Cornbread Stuffing
Oyster Stuffing
Greens
Macaroni and Cheese
Sweet Potatoes
Mashed Potatoes
Green Bean Casserole

Banana Cream Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Apple Pie
Sweet Potato Pie
Huckleberry Pie
Cherry Pie

We can’t afford the lavish spread of the Obama’s (making tamales) . . .

No Cubra Libre’s?
Very disapointed.
And meat is murder. Meatloaf is immoral.

What, no aspic salad from Obama’s illegal aunt?
Maybe it’s under the bus with with grandma & Rev. Wright.

I as a Republican wish to speak to those criticizing the Obamas for their Thanksgiving menu: Get a grip!
It’s Thanksgiving, people.
However: 6 types of pie? Someone in the WH has a serious sweet tooth. ;-)

This sounds like an average family spread, not lavish, who doesn’t love pie?

That sounds like a traditional African American family Thanksgiving meal. I wonder though if this is the first time in history that GREENS have been on the White House menu? I know they were at my house.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. And may our world be blessed now and well into the future!

If the economy wasn’t so bad maybe my family could have 6 different types of pies like they are.

It is interesting to read about what each family does eat on this day….even for the first family!! As a mother of 4 I might have to add mac and cheese next year!! The kids would love that!

OK now I just want to know what kind of Mac and Cheese. OK let’s make some assumptions – you have kids – so I bet we’re NOT talking four or six cheese Mac and Cheese. We’re not talking white wine in our Mac and Cheese. This is not Thomas Jefferson’s Mac and Cheese – FOR sure. So I would guess this would be something with a creamy cheddar sauce. I love great Mac and Cheese which is why I go on. Yeah the oyster stuffing – they can have it – all you oyster lovers – you can have the oyster stuffing – YUCK! A honey baked ham – from Virginia I’ll bet – YUM, YUM. Actually six pies – it surprises me – and no mention of ice cream or whipped cream. And then like no super duper desserts. Very normal, very nice – but on the dessert side – and I’m a liberal – kinda boring.

Next year the First Family could add mahnomen to the menu, aka “wild rice” but serve only natural and hand-parched mahnomen, NOT commercial paddy rice. There is a big difference. Northern Minnesota has the best by far.

“That sounds like a traditional African American family Thanksgiving meal”
No, just sounds like a traditonal Southern Thanksgiving meal to me.

I imagine John Boehner and his sewer rat gang sent a letter to the president complaining about the menu!

I guess its too much to ask that Obama
would go to Afghanistan and have
Thanksgiving with the troops in light of
the fact that he has a press conference
this week announcing his strategy.
That would cut too much into his party
time. What a pathetic excuse of a
president we have.

And lots of liquor, no doubt.

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Why, so you can then come on a forum and whine about President Obama having a photo op at the expense of our troops?

Posted by: catmom | November 27, 2009, 1:48 pm 1:48 pm

It does not have to be a photo op. Why
could he not just go there??? I know
he would probably NOT do it unless the
press corp was there.

Sure if you invite 50 people like they did. I’m sure even you could figure out to ask a few people to bring a pie. (unless of course you prefer to spend your Thanksgivings deciding what you could find to be nasty about and finding nonsensical things to complain about).
If you feel you have a shortage of pies at your house maybe you could spend less time writing nasty comments and do something about your pie shortage. (you are into personal responsibility, right)?

Posted by: Truth Matters | November 27, 2009, 5:47 pm 5:47 pm

“Truth” Matters– well, no, to you it apparently doesn’t. That crack about the “last administration” was as uncalled for as the snarky remark to which you were responding. The last occupant of the oval office didn’t serve much alcohol, because of his PAST problems with the substance. Your implication was unbecoming as well as wrong.

I hate mac and cheese …………… but the rest sign me up for.

If this were a true Southern-tradition
Thanksgiving dinner, where’s the Texas pecan pie?

Posted by: Susn | November 29, 2009, 12:52 pm 12:52 pm

Would it not be better to carry a heart of gratitude around, each day of the year, and to truly give thanks for what we have……No one asked me what my Thanksgiving menu was and why does it even matter what the the Obama family is having for their Thanksgiving dinner?
It really doesn’t matter, because whether they have six pies or none, ssomeone will complain….it’s just easier isn’t it???? So much more difficult to carry a heart of gratitude and a positive mentality……

That is to Remind them of the Slaughter of Innocent People,No That Blood Shed They Worship Blood Shed,No I won`t ever have a Thanksgiving FOR MURDERERS
