Did aarp decide to endorce the health bill after they were promesed that you would destroy Medicare advantage plans thereby giving aarp which is just an insurance company but does not offer Medicare advantage but will gain millions in profits if they dont have to compete with Advantage plans which are good for seniors.

Did ama decide to endorce the health care plan after you threatened to impose that 21% cut in there medicare payments but if they endorced you would drop that cut? Seems criminal to me that is bribery in anyones book.

You asked, “Does anybody think that the teabag, anti-government people are going to support them if they bring down health care? All it will do is confuse and dispirit” Democratic voters “and it will encourage the extremists.”
First of all, Mr. President, do you know that “teabag” is a sexual reference, meant to be derogatory to the tea party groups who are not anti-government but anti-BIG governmen?
Secondly, do you know that these are mainstream Americans participating in the various tea parties? Some are Independent, Republican and Democrat voters who voted for you. They are not extremists. You do know that you are president to all Americans, not just the Democratic voters? Right?…
Thirdly, how does this type of derisive talk from our president “bring the country together”?

I’d really like to know why it was not important enough for him to go to Germany for the Berlin Wall celebration. It was a major achievement of US foreign policy and I’m embarrassed he didn’t deem it worth his time.
I’d also like to know why he is so insistent on forcing this health care reform disaster on us when so much of the public don’t want it or at least don’t want it in the form he’s dishing out.
What other segments of our economy and life does he plan to take over? Just want to prepare myself.
Why hasn’t he gone to Fort Hood? President Bush and Laura Bush have been. Couldn’t he be the center of attention? I just answered my own question about Berlin, didn’t I?
The longer he’s in office the more mortified I am that he is my President. Although I realize this interview is good for ABC, I’m sick of seeing him and listening to him.

Jake
Asking and press him (I say this as a guy who is a liberal democrat and fought for him and the public option)
Why does he and the other dems blame the republicans (remember liberal democrat here) for cowtowing to the healthcare lobby… and it is clear the democrats are trying to belittle tort reform, trial reward redundancy and abuse based on pain and suffering rewards… and their effect down the chain of a healthcare system where doctors are pressured daily to just make the patient happy by shortening visits, prescribing anything to make them walk away and not complain or threaten…and cowtowing to patients because they saw a commercial on tv or a 20/20 special on a 10,000 test for a kid who has a cold or short of breath.
If he says it is not proven that defensive medicine is a factor…tell him do we need proof or shouldn’t overwhelming common sense based on logic play a part here…and get the dems to openly stand up to the legal lobby (and I am a dem and I am disgusted by the hypocrisy in the legislation of this bill for spending so much money and protec the legal lobby)
If Pres Obama really wants healthcare reform at leveled out level with all these ideas…why not incorporate the idea that the republicans have claimed for ages…correctly for once. Tort reform and removing defensive medicine pressures from these medical conglomerates who put the presure on their docs to overprescribe, limit contact and throw services at patients just to not lose their jobs due to threat of malpractice lawsuits and insurance hikes to the hospitals and conglomerates.

Mr. President,
As a conservative who opposed the Iraq War I was disappointed by the narrow minded foreign policy ideology of your predecessor and his close-mindedness to facts on the ground.
In the domestic realm I am disappointed by your advocacy of more debt and government involvement despite your very own projections of success not panning out. Given that measures such as the unemployment rate have worsened will you admit we are in a domestic quagmire and consider reversing course or will you–like your predecessor– ignore realities on the ground and press on?

To me, there’s one area where President Obama’s strong words haven’t been met with equally strong action: gay rights. I want to know why he hasn’t been more aggressive in working to repeal DOMA or DADT, and why he didn’t speak up on behalf of Maine’s No on 1 campaign. I voted for President Obama because he seemed to understand the problems of prejudice and bias – and the ways that government can correct them – better than his opponent or his predecessor. I get that health care, the H1N1 virus, and the various conflicts in the Middle East have swamped him, his cabinet, and his staff. But there will always be something pressing and immediate – this is an issue of civil rights, and I want to know why it hasn’t seemed to be among his highest priorities yet.

The time for action is now no more talk.

Why can’t you find a way to get the Blue Dogs in line? They watered down the Stimulus so that it didn’t get the job done and now they have weakened the Public Option to the point that it will prevent the majority of middle class Americans from experiencing any real change and consequently healthcare reform will be also seen as a failure as well. Why is it so hard to carry out the vision of real meaningful changefor the middle class that was promised on the campaign trail?

3 T’s:
Troops – Why haven’t you responded to McChrystals request? Why haven’t you visited Fort Hood? Why the “shout out” at the press conference?
Taxes – Can passing a health care bill be considered a high water mark in your term if it puts medical personnel, insurance agents and the public under water with restrictions on services, salary and care, not to mention higher taxes and penalties? If the private sector jobs keep disapearing and the only new jobs are in the government, do you see a time when there are too few productive taxpayers to keep the government running? Is that a goal?
Tea parties, do you think your distain for conservative and libertarian Americans is hurting your chances for 2012. Do you know “teabag” is a sexual term meant to smear Americans who disagree with you? Is using that term presidential, unifying? Is dissent still patriotic?

Jake, thank you for opp’y to submit questions. Here are mine:
Mr. President: What specific evidence can you point to that leads you to the conclusion that government can operate a health care insurance business in a more efficient, fair, and cost-effective way than the private sector? Why do you believe force of law must be used to provide charity to citizens w/o resources to provide for their own health needs? Do you distrust the innate goodness of Americans to offer charity voluntarily?

What is a “shout out”?
Posted by: Mjim | November 9, 2009, 8:57 am 8:57 am
I would say there are two issues I want addressed:
1) When George W. Bush inserted himself into military plans in Iraq, liberal detractors called him the disparaging term “chicken hawk” because he was dictating military policy without any military experience. Isn’t Obama doing the exact same thing in Afghanistan?
2) By any measure, unemployment is high. It’s now 2.6 percent higher (a 34 percent increase) than when Obama took office and more than twice the number it was during much of the Bush administration. But Obama is spending his time and his political capital on health care reform. Despite his claims about HCR helping the economy, ordinary people are out of work by the millions. Aren’t his priorities all out of whack?

Do you still feel that that the David Goldman Hague case is moving swiftly through the Brazilian Courts? There is still no final ruling 5+ years later.

Posted by: Kim Moore | November 9, 2009, 9:15 am 9:15 am
1. Mr. President, there are now 30 states that are introducing “Health Care Freedom Acts” to offer protection of individual health care rights. There have been hundreds of thousands of Americans speaking out in protest to the health care reform you are advocating. Polls indicate more than 80% of Americans are satisfied with their current health plan. The House bill only passed by the narrowest of margins. Shouldn’t legislation of this magnitude, taking over 1/6th of the US economy, have overwhelming support? Do you worry about the execution of such legislation being that it has so much opposition?
2. You have now been in office 10 months. Why haven’t you or the law makers in Washington done anything to combat the fraud and waste that you spoke so freely about during the campaign? Why not fix that first prior to passing new health care mandates?
Thank you Mr. Tapper for allowing citizens to participate in your questioning.

Simple: Only surviving parent has custody per Brazil’s own civil law.Why does he not have his son? Why are we waiting for a decision from a Brazilian court? Food stamps are used by the government to insure the poor can eat with no need to takeover grocery stores. Why can’t a similar program be used for health insurance? Why does the President refuse to explore such a solution, perhaps using HSA’s, that would be far more likely to achieve bipartisan support?

Hi Jake,
Thanks for answering my tweets yesterday (@marklainer):
Here’s my question. It’s long, but I think it needs to be, for the purpose of clarity and to avoid evasion:
CBO estimates make clear that the best method for controlling rising health care expenditures would be to include the so-called “robust” public option as part of the health care exchanges, with reimbursement rates tied to Medicare (plus a certain percentage, between 5 and 10%). This choice for health care consumers would eliminate the need to create a brand new bureaucracy, as well as the costs to negotiate separate reimbursement agreements with doctors, hospitals, etc.. It also should result in the lowest premium that Americans would have to pay for comprehensive health insurance and that would in turn reduce the amount the government would have to pay out in subsidies to middle and lower middle class Americans, thus lowering taxes (making everyone, even Republicans, happier). Given that most of the opposition to the public option, and specifically the “robust” public option, comes from the health insurance industry, which has not shown itself to act in good faith in the past, as well as Democratic Senators and “Blue Dog” Representatives, almost all of whom have received VERY large political contributions from the aforementioned health insurance companies, how can you justify allowing our Democratic Senators and Congresspeople to force all Americans to buy health insurance from private companies, who are motivated primarily by profits, and not also allow Americans to have the ability to choose the most cost effective access to health care, with the lowest premiums, a robust public option that utilizes the existing billing structure and bargaining clout of Medicare as a framework?

Jake, Please ask him about the ABC report that the CIA knew that Hasan was attempting to contact Al Qaeda. Ask him if we can be certain that our family members who are military will be safe on their own bases in the U.S. My wife is an optometrist for the Navy and works in a facility similar to the one that Hasan attacked. Why can our military bases not be patrolled much more heavily by armed military sentries instead of relying on civilian police to protect our family members?

Why did it take so long for you to condemn the shootings at Ft. Hood? A “shout-out” was first and then the remarks rang hollow. In light on the indecision about Afghanistan how can the troops feel secure that the White House is behind them? All remarks involving Ft. Hood seem callous and condescending. These are best and brightest that sacrifice for us. The deserve reverence and respect. How can you, Mr. President, gain their trust and admiration?

President Obama, why are you OK with a health care reform bill that was passed by the House this weekend that will severely restrict the ability of women’s reproductive choice? Earlier this year, you made no efforts and seemed to endorse change that severely limited women’s access to birth control through the stimulus package. As a father of two daughters, will there come a time when you actually stand up for women’s health and reproductive rights or will you continue to allow the political right to push its agenda on limiting reproductive health care until we are back to a post Griswold vs. Connecticut world?

Jake: Please ask President Obama why he won’t mandate that all members of the House and the Senate, in fact all government employees, would have to share in the SAME healthcare plan as HR 3269 mandates for all of us. Why isn’t it possible to get all the healthcare providers/insurance companies/big pharma together and have them help design how to fix the system.
What the heck are Baby Boomers going to do with the reduction in Medicare that’s proposed.

U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News. It is not known whether the intelligence agencies informed the Army that one of its officers was seeking to connect with suspected al Qaeda figures, the officials said.

The estimates for the cost of the house bill range from $1.05 to 1.5 trillion depending on who is doing the estimating. However all acknowledge that the 10 year estimates count 10 years of revenue, but only 6 or 7 years of full expense. The Heritage Foundation estimates that once fully in place, the 10 year costs will be $2.4 – 2.6 trillion. Even if you don’t agree with the Heritage Foundation’s arithmetic, don’t you have to agree that the actual cost of the bill once fully in place will far exceed your target of $900 billion? Shouldn’t you and your administration be more up front with the public concerning the true cost of the house bill? How can you endorse a bill that so plainly relies on postponing costs to make it appear fiscally palatable?

With GLBT issues he seems to not have an aggressive pace, but those issues seem pretty straightforward. Why not go ahead and just withdraw “don’t ask don’t tell” and do something that he believes in and keep a large part of his base satisfied? With all the other things going on, does he really think it’s going to hurt him? Isn’t it time to show leadership and not sit back and wait for a hoped for second term? Part of leadership is doing the right thing at the right time and not waiting for a politically expedient moment. What if that second term doesn’t materialize? Then he’s missed his chance.

Sir, why wouldn’t opening consumer purchase of health insurance nation wide with subsidies and tax breaks to help people pay for it, increase competiton?
Sir, the American people hear, on an almost daily basis, and for decades, how government is going to clean up waste and fraud. How come this has not yet happened? Is this Bush’s fault?

Mr. President,
How do you feel about claims that you must move your agenda to the center? I find it annoying because while there is an angry, fringe-left in this country, the progressive base of the Democratic Party is anything but fringe, which is clear when you poll the American people on what they want to see in domestic and foreign policy. But… we do feel a bit dispossessed when we see policy get crafted to appeal to the most conservative elements of the Democratic Party. I realize concessions are necessary due to the make-up and rules of the Senate, which is always more conservative than the nation as a whole, but it’s frustrating…
We don’t have anywhere to go. We’re certainly not interested in seeing a bunch of tea party ilk get elected. But a captive vote is not an energized vote, and if we’re going to hold onto a majority in 2010 we need an energized base. The Republicans have sold their base an jumbled tossed salad of ideas about the evils of the federal government. Most of us realize that if the GOP were to regain control of the federal government, they’d break their promises to the base. We’ve seen this movie before. However, you and the Democrats have made promises about checking excessive executive power, rolling back our foreign military commitments, protecting a woman’s right to choose, and creating a universal health care system with a public option. How do you see yourself doing on the promises made, and do you agree the center can’t hold?
Will you provide insight into why you believe we can’t roll back our foreign military commitments if that’s your position– and how in the heck are we going to work with Karzai’s gov’t?
____

Mr. Obama, being that the majority of Americans have stated, in many polls, that they do not know where you stand on the biggest issues facing us today, could you tell us where your mindset is on the following:
1) Jobs and the Stimulus. We have seen many reports showing that the Stimulus package has not created/saved the number of jobs the WH says it has. As a matter of fact, much of the money is being wasted on projects that have nothing to do with jobs at all. How do you explain these numbers? How do you think the money went to pet projects without being detected? Would you say transparency was an issue? Do you think another Stimulus is needed, and if so, how would a second one deliver results, and how would your administration track the money in a tougher way?
2) The economy. We are all aware that the economy problems you face now, were, to an extent, “inherited”. However, since taking office, it seems that the economy is worsening. What would you say was the most pressing problem that caused this fiasco? The banks and/or lenders? Defaulted loans? Bailouts that should not have happened that are backlashing now? Or, is it personal responsibility that the public in general dismissed and in the end, put themselves in a bind? Next, how do you intend to fix this to a point that we can feel comfortable it will not happen again?
3) Healthcare. The bill currently being fought over in Congress is, in the understatement of the century, immensely EXPENSIVE. We have not seen much in the way of cost cutting measures when discussing healthcare, only the same mantra of “choice and competition”. What are the ways your administration is proposing to cut costs? How will these plans affect our everyday healthcare? Are increases in certain citizens taxes absolutely necessary?
Next, the CBO now says the government plan will actually cost MORE in premiums than private plans. Could you explain this? Why would the government want to provide a service that will cost more, and in turn, end up having to give more in tax credits to the people who want to get it? Doesn’t that take away from any type of “savings” the WH is touting?
Next, when it comes to new medicines and technologies, the cost is enormous. How do you include research, development, innovation and implementation of these medical factors into the cost of healthcare? As the technology gets more advanced, wouldn’t the costs of insurance need to go higher as well? Please explain.
4) Afghanistan. You have stated on more than one occasion that this war is a war of “necessity”, not a war of “choice”. But it is ultimately YOUR choice on strategy, troop levels, time tables, etc. Although most of the public understands putting thought into any decision, since this is a war of “necessity”, don’t you feel that a little more urgency might be needed? At what point do you decide that diplomacy will need to take a back seat to pure force? Do you think there is an end in sight to this war?
Next, you have also made clear in the first few months of your presidency that we “are not at war with Islam”. In fact, we have sent millions of dollars to countries that are predominantly Muslim as a way to “help” them and in turn gain their trust. That doesn’t seem to be happening. Are you willing to stand on that platform that we are not at war with Islam, even if the Muslims in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq and so on believe that they ARE at war with us? This past week’s shootings at Fort Hood are a stark reminder that we cannot “take our eyes off the ball”. Would you explain your feelings on that tragedy now that more details have come out?
6) Robert Gibbs. Why him?

There exists over this Administration a growing belief that it is not trustworthy, and the source of that belief is twofold: first, the President’s apparent concurrence with his employment of totally unvetted so-called czars, and second, his permitting the attacks…and that’s what they are…by high level “advisers” in the West Wing on Fox News. Simply, if those folks don’t choose to watch ANY network, or program, or paticular news reporter or analyst, that is their free choice. While the traditional Big 3 networks continue to treat this Presidency with kid gloves, I must say that many of us find it refreshing to find another network providing the American public with “a check and balance” on what we are being told both in print and on the airwaves. Our media is the freest in the world. Does the President agree with that statement? Does he agree also that it must remain so?
Again, a Presidency must have the TRUST

It has been widely reported that you took some exceptional, but not unheard-of, steps to secure passage of the House HCR bill at the end of the week – given that level of involvement in this particular bill, is it reasonable for the average citizen to assume you understand and agree with the HCR efforts outlined in this bill? Put another way, if the HCR bill were to pass through the Senate unchanged, would you sign this bill into law?
I thin that is a fair and respectful question, and I don’t think I’m alone in wanting a clear answer – personally, I’ve become frustrated at his’every bill is a compromise’ position and I’d live a straight up or down answer on the bill as passed on Friday.

Do you have any problem with the intellectual gymnastics played by your administration? It seems that any time there is any bad news about the economy, suddenly the problem you “inherited” is much worse than you ever expected. Yet any time there is any good news, you tout it as a sign that your policies are working. Do you see anything wrong with a double-standard like that?
When you were elected, it was hailed as a transcendent moment in politics. We were told that things had changed, and you were going to bring us together. Yet when the Democrat candidate for governor was trounced in the election, Democrats dismissed it by saying basically, “That always happens in the election after a Presidential election — the party that lost the Presidential election gains the governor’s house.” So are we to interpret from this that it’s politics as usual, even after your historic election?

20 years ago today the Berlin Wall, a symbol of communist oppression, came down. Ronald Reagan encouraged the end of this physical and symbolic barrier to freedom with his famous “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall” speech. What encouragement would you offer to those in places like Iran, North Korea snd Venezuela who are currently deprived of basic human rights like freedom of speech and the right to assemble?

Here’s a light-hearted but sincere question:
Historically, the Commander in Chief accepts the honorary title of “Head Scout” (please check actual title) from the Boy Scouts of America, which involves two main responsibilities – being listed as such on Eagle Scout proclimations and making an appearance at the National Scout Jamboree held every four years. As of right now, Eagle Scout Proclimation retain President George W Bush as “head scout” and your office has not committed to even an ‘intention’ to try and attend next year’s Jamboree – 40,000 scouts are likely to attend- is there some issue with the Boy Scout Organization that prevents you attendence?
Countess Senators and Representatives are Eagle Scouts, what, if anything, should they infer from your retecense on this matter?

Mr. President,
There are 60 or so American children being held in Brazil against their own will and against the provisions of the Hague convention, and hundreds more in other countries as well. The most prominent of these children is Sean Goldman, whose father, David Goldman–a U.S. citizen and NJ resident–is the boys only living parent and yet they have been kept apart coming on FIVE YEARS now. You are aware of this particular case, and in fact back in July you essentially stated that unless Brazil showed “swift progress”, you were prepared to take some action. Do you consider the inaction of the past 5 months, plus the preceeding 4 plus years, swift? What action are you prepared to take to force Brazil to comply with the international treaty that they signed? If this were your child being held captive against your wishes as the parent, what would you expect your government to do to assist you?

This country was founded on covenant between man and God. Your policies point to elitist arrogance and malice towards those of us who love God, love America, and love rational thought. Did you study the Constitution just to find loopholes that will allow you to legislate away the American way of life and insert your own image of “the public good”? Do you believe the lies you speak, such as the ones about Pelosi’s healthcare bill being enacted “on behalf of the American people” despite evidence (August town hall meetings) that most of us won’t touch anything found in these bills? How dare you and your czars decide ANYTHING for me and this country? Are you aware that many people see you as a dictator wanna-be?

Mr. President,
In your 2004 speech before the DNC, and during your presidential campaign, your words about this nation not being a red or blue nation, but a “united” nation were overwhelmingly inspirational.
I am forever dismayed at those who continually espouse rhetoric that encourages divisive stereo-typical segregation.
Partisan politics is divisive. Segregating or categorizing any group of individuals is divisive.
Yet, our country is comprised of great diversity in culture, religion, ethnicity and nationality, defining the term in broad scope.
Example of a typical conversation: “I was on the bus today, and there was this white woman or black man…”
Why the color reference? Why not, simply put, “this woman or this man…”
It seems conversations, news stories in papers or television media reporting all have a reference within that reflects segregation or class stereo-typing.
Celebrating or honoring the diversity amongst our nation is admirable, and reflects our stewardship and ambassador driven conduct to the world at large.
Divisive vs. Diversity: How do you propose we will ever end such divisiveness and truly “unite” the population of “We, the people,” when the voices of our Congress, your Administration, and the media continually find reason to point out and segregate?

Why do you wantCongress to pass legislation to create the Consumer Financial Protection Agency.Government bureaucrats will have the subjective authority to determine what, from whom, and even IF individuals may borrow money to get financial help when it is needed most. This includes mortgages, credit cards, debit cards, installment loans and much more. It will put thousands of people out of work. Why would you want that?

Mr. President -
Dealing with the big issues is not easy and often seeing the longer term benefits is hard. What will your White House and you specifically be doing to effectively communicate the short and long term benefits of health care reform for the middle class and others. I know this topic has been talked about a lot, but a consistent factual message needs to be repeated and fully understood by the nation.

Great Question. I second that one, and also would like to know what the President thinks about moving up the date as to when key structural aspects of health reform legislation (national insurance exchanges) would go into effect– from 2013 to the beginning of 2012 for instance. I realize insurance reforms and consumer protections, which should prove popular, will go into effect before then.

And on that note, why did you allow the Speaker and others in committees hold meetings behind locked doors, shutting out all oppposition, when crafting this bill since you professed so strongly that all negotiations would be “open & transparent” and even viewable on CSPAN?
How does CSPAN feel about that broken promise?

Many Americans have supported the idea of health care reform for many years (I personally had a lot of faith that Hillary Clinton, as a moderate Democrat was the one who could best get this done). However, given the current state of the affairs in our country, do you really think it is wise to divert your attention from the ills we are facing, and take on something of this magnitude? Two wars, jobless rate, national debt, etc… Wouldn’t it be best to heal the wounds this country has before biting off such a monumental task? Seems you are destined to fail, while the USA is in such a state of disrepair.

Given the US Government has a current deficit of about 1.4 Trillion, Medicare is broke, Social Security is Broke, Public High School graduation rates are dismal, US Post Office is broke, Amtrak is Broke, Cash for Clunkers ran out of money in 4 days, and the availability of H1N1 Vaccinations were grossly overestimated by the current administration, why should the American people believe that the government will be able to successfully run 1/6th of the economy? Dear Mr. President,
Like a good liberal, I post incessantly on message boards supporting your policies. I even use several different screen names in order to make it appear there is more support for your policies than there actually is, hehe. Sometimes, when I cannot in good faith defend your policies, I resort to using the given talking points from OFA, moveon.org and media matters. I use the word “smear” and namecall as much as possible (I get .75 cents extra to do that). My question is, can I get time and 1/2 on the weekends?

Not at all.
The voters elected 2 Democrats INTO Congress, and in fact booted the Republicans out of a seat they had previously held.
It’s the right wing that is trying to make it appear there is more support for their nonsense than there actually is . . . trouble is – the American people have rejected their extremism and attack campaigns. You’re way out of the American mainstream.
