Report: Rudy Giuliani Rules Out NY Gov Bid

Last Sunday on "This Week" Rudy Giuliani wouldn't take a stand on running for Governor in 2010, but the New York Times is now reporting that he's opted out of the race. My colleague, ABC News’ David Chalian, has more: It appears that Rudy Giuliani is not interested in the battle for New York’s top job.  The New York Times reports that people who have been notified of the decision have told the Times that after looking at the 2010 gubernatorial race for months, Giuliani has decided to stay out of it.    However, the idea of a possible Senate run against Hillary Clinton’s appointed replacement, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), is reportedly still in the mix.   No official confirmation yet from Giuliani’s office.   "Rudy has a history of making up his own mind and has no problem speaking it.  When Mayor Giuliani makes a decision about serving in public office, he will inform New Yorkers on his own," said Giuliani spokeswoman Maria Comella.   The former mayor and 2008 presidential candidate refused to tip his hand in either direction when he appeared on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” on Sunday.   One senior New York Republican source who could not confirm the Times reporting tells ABC News, “This is in line with things we had been hearing for the last couple of weeks.  We have heard that he has spoken with good friends and other close associates and has expressed to them that he was not going to be running for governor,” said the Empire State Republican.   “He might still be interested in running for the Senate,” the GOPer added.   This would not be the first time Giuliani has eyed a Senate run.  He ended his 2000 campaign after being diagnosed with prostate cancer and the disintegration of his marriage became public.  First Lady Hillary Clinton won the Senate seat from New York that year.

Not living in NY, I don’t know if that is good or bad news for the citizens of that fine state? I am sure his decision is the talk of the town. Personally I like Rudy, he definitely is interesting and tries to do what he believes.
I am just wondering if this is a protest type declaration because of his opposition to holding the trials of Muhammad in NYC? I know he has raised concerns about the trial and the rationale behind the decision to try in civilian versus military jurisdictions.
I am sure there are many wonderful candidates that will vie for this position. May you all have a wonderful Holiday season.

The less we see and hear of Rude-E the better off we’ll be.

I hope it is because he’s planning to run for President again in 2012.

He does not need to run for any more offices. We need some new ideas instead of the same good old boys’ network in existence. Get some new blood. Mr. Giulliani, get some rest. You need to retire!

Rudy is probably considering running for “King of the World” as a higher post of prestige over an ordinary throne in Albany with a bigger crown and more jewels. Then, when and if, a terrorist attack occurs at any location in the world, he could wander around with his fur cape, face mask and pin striped suit and garble directions to no one in particular . . . again!

I think Rudy is not getting the backing and support he needs and thought he would get. Many in New York want the trial to be there so they can be a part of it…some do not. However, he has made some comments which are coming back to bite him. I agree with”Betty”. It is time for some new blood.
