The Biggest Loser at the White House Election Night

It’s unclear which White House staffer thought it would be a good idea to have an NBC show called “The Biggest Loser” visit the White House in an episode that aired on what was shaping up to be a tough election night for President Obama and the Democratic party, but the contestants stopped by 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Tuesday night as election returns came in.
The segment featured the contestants – overweight folks trying desperately to lose weight — harvesting vegetables in First Lady Michelle Obama's White House Kitchen Garden, with the help of assistant chef Sam Kass.
The gang then went into the kitchen and made a big salad.
The contestants and the hosts lavished praise on the Obamas for setting a positive example on healthy eating.
That was followed by a video about hunger in America that so prominently featured Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, it could have been a re-election commercial.

Who cares if the winner is a Republican or a Demorcat? Both parties have sold out to the SAME special interest groups. What we REALLY need is a a REAL change in choice. I’m not sure if that means a 3-party system or an umpteen party system, BUT we HAVE to change the status quo! It’s time to educate our elected officals – ALL of them, from the very lowest level to the highest level – that they work for US, and they had better do what we want them to do, or they’re out. These 20 or 30 year terms are unacceptable. Two terms, then you’re out. And none of this pay for life or health benefits for live crap. Either we ALL get that or none of us gets that. Enough of this insanity!

See here is the thing this was seen a defeat for president Obama and his broken promises. He made significant promises to his base that he could not provide like health care reform which would have helped individuals American have affordable health care. And here is the second problem, in order to gain concessions, from two republicans who may have voted for what I call insurance reform, and not publicly funded health care. So here is what happened voters woke up and punished the president for his broken promises.

This election may be seen as a victory for republicans around the nation. However, we should also take this victory with a grain of salt.
This election was not a rebuke of President obama and his failed policies but in the context we have one widely unpopular governors.
And the other an unpopular candidate in a governors race.
However, the problem for the president; this problem can be seen as a loss in the public confidence; in his policies. and this should be a wake up for the other democrats seeking re election in the 2010 elections take heed. and stick to your principles and values don’t sell out to the blue dog democrats.

Can you say bye to your cherished freedoms that conservatives would like to take away like a woman’s right to have an abortion. Or the right to have safety standards on your roads. with less rules an De regulation driving won’t be the same. And or perhaps wheels flying off the tires of a big wheeler truck because the governor decided safety was no longer seen as an important issue. there are so many examples of privatization and where it has gone wrong.

The trifecta in Virginia (hasn’t happend there in a LONG time.
Corruptzine was thrown out in New Jeresy (where registered Dems heavily outnumber registered Republicans and where Obama made 5 campiagn stops for Corruptzine). And the Democrats and the Corruptzine campaign spent $33 million dollars to $11 million spent by the Christie campaign. They still could not win.
Change has come. It is indeed a wonderful thing.
BTW, ABC News has also reported tonight that a top Democrat has said that there will be no health care reform bill this year. Period. Message to Obeyme.
Another blow to “Duh One’s” administration and “Duh One’s” extremist fiscal policies.

The congressional seat the Democrats won tonight in New York had been in Republican hands since the Civil War!
What an embarrassing defeat for the Republicans and a stunning victory for the Democrats and Obama.
So much for Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and their fellow Republicans. Rejected.
The Governors races are particular with local issues and regionally oriented.
The New York congressional seat is more of a federal mandate and a mini-election on the Obama/Democratic administration.
And it’s a seat the Republicans held for a long time – AND LOST TONIGHT.
Democrats won it and its a strong vote in favor of the current administration.

Tierra, you make me laugh. Obama campaigned heavily in New Jersey and I live in Virginia Beach and all I saw on TV were the ads with Obama asking people to vote for Deeds, but despite his best efforts, they lost. The NY-23 race hurts a little, but that defeat was caused not by endorsements from Palin and other conservatives, but by the ineptitude of the state and national republican leadership that backed Scuzzafava in the first place. Owens, just got lucky that the republican party leaders picked a loser to run against him in the first place. The real lesson we learn from NY-23 is that conservatives like McDonnell and Christie win, not moderates or liberals.

We may have seen a different race in NY-23 if Hoffman had won a primary and had been the GOP’s choice from the get-go. As it is, he managed to oust the GOP choice from the campaign and came very close to winning it all. I don’t think conservatism or his supporters were rejected at all. And I give him credit for standing up to the flawed selection process and giving it his best shot.
Governors races are very important in and of themselves and as potential Presidential candidates. So they are not local or regional at all. Governors are always fertile ground for national potential.
What is also important here is to gauge the mood of the independents. You already know the answer to that one.
This is by no means a referendum in any respect and should be a wake up call to the GOP that they cannot just give lip service to their ideology. They need a consistent message and and they need to live what they preach. They have about a year… let’s see where they go from here.

BTW, tierra, if I’m not mistaken Owens has to run again next year in order to keep his seat. If Hoffman wins his Party’s support he will get to run against Owens again. Owens will be walking on eggshells for a while yet.

About Hoffman’s effort:
“He overcame impossible odds (single digits just a month ago) to come within two points of defeating Democrat Bill Owens. Hoffman had zero name recognition. National Republican Party officials dumped nearly $1 million into the race on behalf of radical leftist GOP candidate Dede Scozzafava, who then turned around, endorsed Owens and siphoned off 5 percent of the vote with her name still on the ballot after she dropped out.”

Liberal Juan Williams said that Hoffman lost because he entered the race late (a back-breaker to begin with), and him not presently having the political expertise to run an effective cmapign against Owens.
Combine all of that that with him having zero name recognition, RINO Republicans working against him while running against Owens and Scuzzafava (a three front war), YET he STILL almost pulled out a win.
Those are the political realities. Period. End of discussion. Those are the reasons that Hoffman lost.

Juan Williams is liberal but from what I’ve seen of him lately on Fox he’s also a realist. He’s made some “fair and balanced” comments lately and I suspect (off the record) he doesn’t like that Obama may be blowing the first African-American presidency.

Regardless of the Republican excuses, it’s a stunning loss, and an important victory for the Democrats and the President.
Same with the victory in California. Two congressional seats up for election – two Democratic victories.

A comment on the blog: The Biggest Loser in D.C. episode was one big lovefest for all things Obama and liberal. I could just see it coming when contestants were told they were going to travel where “change” is made. There were so many fawning references to Obama by contestants as well as a shamefully embarassing interview with trainer Bob Harper who literally squealed with delight over Obama’s example of healthful living (did anyone remind him that our Pres. smokes?) And the meeting with the two Democrat politicians regarding the obesity epidemic in our country? Since when is that the government’s responsibility? Life is about personal choices and being accountable for them.
