‘Top Line’ — Ambassador Oprah? Senator Oprah?
ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: Oprah Winfrey's announced exit from her daily broadcast format has prompted new speculation in political circles about the next step for the talk-show queen — one that just might involve playing off of her famous connection to President Obama.
"Let's say she does just stop her show and works on her cable network. Well, she could take an appointment from President Obama — an envoy role, roving ambassador, some UN appointment," said Lynn Sweet, the Washington bureau chief of the Chicago Sun-Times and a columnist for Politics Daily, told us today on ABCNews.com's "Top Line."
And might Oprah run for office?
"Don't rule things out. You know, careers have long arcs to them, and you never know where someone ends up. I wouldn't be surprised if years from now we're talking about Oprah running for something or getting an important appointment," she said.
We asked Sweet, who writes regularly about First Lady Michelle Obama on her blog and at Politics Daily, about Tina Brown's suggestion, on "Good Morning America" today, that Mrs. Obama could one day move into a perch like Oprah's.
"I think Mrs. Obama has many opportunities open to her whether or not Oprah continues as a talk-show queen or not. … She'll be young in four or eight years, so there's an incredible future," she said.
And might Illinois one day have senators known simply as Oprah and Michelle? "Could be," Sweet said. "And we'll still be covering it!"

How about Vice President Oprah?

Since her announcement states she won’t be leaving the show until 2011, and Obama is up for re-election in 2012 (if he runs, which he probably will), the timing doesn’t seem to offer any indication of Oprah moving into politics.
That’s fantasy speculation, I think.

That is just what America needs is another socialist in the senate.

It’s absurd that Oprah would ever move into politics, although maybe she’ll get some feel good position, like the time Bush Sr appointed that Hollywood musclehead Schwarzenegger chairman of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.

President Oprah Winfrey! Man, I love the sound of that! Plus we have the extra added pleasure of alienating, angering, marginalizing and aggravating every “complexion challenged” right wing nutjob in America. It might even send Limbaugh back to his OTC drug dealer for more supplies.

I believe Oprah should accept no office less than that of President.

Isn’t there some kind of feud between Michelle Obama and Oprah? I thought I heard some kind of bad blood and, maybe, this could be a reason why Oprah is selling out Obama’s town of Chicago and was disparaging Chitown yesterday and deciding to move to another near bankrupted area- California, where this common women has a mansion that she hasn’t used. Just wondering?

gracieismykitty; You are really enamored with her aren’t you! Personally, I don’t assign that kind of tribute to any mortal.

Since she and Obama are tight she will probably be given some green jobs/environmental title so she can tie it in with her new age religion.

Another ‘no experience celiberity’ buying their way in politics.

Lets just pray that in 2012 there is no more Obamas or Oprah in politics! Obamas has made America into enough of a laughing stock, now we get tv personalities! Pleeaassee!

After supporting the other O, being in on the olympics boondoggle and the latest (incredibly) tasteless circus with the woman who had her face eaten by her friends chimp/husband…
I think we have had enough Oprah for several lifetimes. The last thing we need is another liberal Cult of Personality type spending our money in DC. Just look what these loons have done to Chicago.

Oprah should do more than start her own network — she should be launch her own political party
