VP Biden’s Thanksgiving Dinner for the Troops
ABC News' Vija Udenans reports: The vice president and Dr. Jill Biden hosted a family style Thanksgiving dinner at their residence in Washington tonight for military families to thank them for their service.
Mr. Biden told the guests that he and his wife believe that there is “one sacred duty” and that nothing is as sacred “as caring for those who we send to war.”
The 29 guests were from the Fisher House residents who live in the DC area at Walter Reed, Bethesda Naval and Andrews AFB while their family members receive extended medical attention at the military hospitals.
The vice president acknowledged the sacrifices of the military families and spoke of the respect and honor they earned. “Never before has this place been accorded such an honor as tonight. No individual group has walked thru that door that has lent more dignity than you.”
The wife of the vice president, Jill Biden, has taken an expressed interest in military families and made it one of her top priorities. As a mother of a Army National Guardsman, she told her guests that she understood how they felt, since their son Beau is home this year after a year in Iraq. She told them, “This is a small thank you from the Biden family to your family.”
The guests were treated to a traditional thanksgiving meal with sugar-cured turkey with sage gravy, pecan cornbread dressing, whipped Yukon gold potatoes, garlic and butter green beans, pomegranate-cranberry sauce, caramel pumpkin pie with mile high whipped cream and pecan pie.
Two dinner tables were set up for the 29 guests in the first floor of the vice president's mansion spanning the dining room and the grand foyer. The tables were set with formal dinnerware, a centerpiece of a cornucopia of fall flowers, and 4 tall candles lit on each table. A Marine band member was playing a harp for background music. Most of the guests were attired in their Sunday best; no uniforms were present.
The Fisher House foundation chairman, Kenneth Fisher, told ABC that their organization is a public-private partnership that in a non-political manner supports the veterans. It does not support a particular war philosophy. In tandem with the government they have set up 43 Fisher houses around the country to support the families of the veterans. The government gives the land for Fisher House to build on. Once completed the homes are given to a branch of the military to operate.

Right away you discredit your entire post.
The Anti-Defamation League report was right – nut-case extremists are spewing fear mongering nonsense, and the gullible and weak-minded are vulnerable to it.
Thank God it’s such a pathetic minority.

Barack Obama wants our troops to die…The troops say, “Give me reinforcements, or we are going to die.” And what does Barack Obama give them? “No” to the reinforcements,

The DOCUMENTED FACTS are that Obama has doubled the troops in Afghanistan in the past 10 months, giving them more reinforcements than they’ve had in seven years. How do you possibly reconcile that with the disgusting lies you just told? Do you have no honor at all?

Of course Mr. Obama doesn’t want American soldiers to die. That is a stupid and libelous statement. However, his policies are causing American soldiers to die,as four have died in Afghanistan this week. His current Afghan strategy is leading to more deaths-and for what? Either fight the war to win and bear the necessary burden,or pull out and face the geopolitical consequences. To adopt a half strategy at this time is to opt for another Vietnam.

It is much more likely the 7 years of dithering by Bush and Cheney are causing American soldiers to die.
For 7 years the put Afghanistan on the back burner while the Taliban and al Qaeda regrouped and gained strength. This regrouping and strengthening has had serious consequences for the troops.

Joe Biden’s support for the troops has shown a different side of him. He has proven, in my book a real class act. I believe he alone may save the Democrats face from their awful attempt to consolidate all power and industry to their sole selves in a Hugo Chavez fashion.
If Biden defends the unborn and promotes traditional democrat values the likes of Democrats in decades past, he may actually have my vote in 2012. He seems like a relatively traditional democrat he’s likeable, genuinely patriotic, and probably has a birth certificate.

Obamacrat for Palin- respectfully, I delayed responding to tempter my feelings. But you get your opinions, a baseless and extreme as they are, you don’t get your own facts. Your assertions that Obama wants “troops to die” and “women to die of breast cancer” are palpably false. Not even your new hero, Palin, would make these charges.

Dr. Jill Biden appears to be a peach and Joe is the pits but good on him for having the soldiers over for Thanksgiving.
Fisher House is one of my favorite charities. We are trying to get one built in Illinois.
