Coming Up on ‘This Week’: Napolitano, Gibbs and McConnell
This Sunday I'll be subbing for George on "This Week." I hope you'll join me as we discuss the latest on the Christmas Day terror plot with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, and chat with the White House’s top spokesman on the President’s first year … and his agenda for 2010. I’ll also have an exclusive interview with the Senate’s top Republican on his party’s strategy heading into a critical year. Janet Napolitano, Robert Gibbs and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. R-Ky … only on “This Week.” Then, a powerhouse Roundtable this week: Former Bush-Cheney adviser Matthew Dowd, Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus, and New York Times columnists Paul Krugman and David Brooks. We’re going to hash out the latest on health reform. The president is downplaying the differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill – but what are the major pitfalls for reconciliation in Congress before the bill can be sent to Obama’s desk?
Plus, we’ll also take a look back at the year’s politics. President Obama told Oprah he’d give himself an A-minus if the health care bill passes … but what do our Roundtablers think? And, with so much of the president’s agenda still left to do, and mid-term elections on the horizon, we’ll look forward for what to expect in 2010. It’s the last “This Week” show of the year; George Stephanopoulos is off taking a well-deserved vacation with his family. Hope you can join me Sunday. -jpt

I wanted to thank you for keeping an open forum on your web site. A lot of venting goes on, but some serious ideas also are exchanged.

Good luck! (Jake, when will you know if you get the show? I read somewhere that you’re a strong contender for the position.)

Jake… be a real journalist and ask the tough questions.. no fluffy easy stuff..
Make these guys answer real questions and do not let them tap dance around any issues.

Don’t expect much more than a bunch
of “ums” sprinkled with the usual
snide remarks from Gibbs. What a dolt.

Good luck, Jake.
Please keep Political Punch even if you become the permanent host of “This Week.”
Oh, I’m torn… Can you do both jobs? We really need you in the White House press corps, too. Who will ask real questions if you leave?

For either Gibbs or the roundtable:
Did Obama foresee the problems he would have in closing Gitmo?
If not, why not?
If so, why did he campaign on and sign an order declaring it would be closed in one year?
Is it a good idea to continue his closing Gitmo as a triumph of America under Obama?
Does it help him understand the difficulties George Bush also went through as President?

It is interesting/telling/discouraging that “mainstream media” organizations devote resources to Obama reading books to children, “Obama Girls Answer Christmas Questions”, “Inside the Obamas’ ‘Winter White House’” yet all but completely ignore news that has significant impact on a significant number of Americans.
Example: The constitutionality of the Reid bill is being challenged in at least three different areas, yet ABC and other MSM instead sticks to fluff pieces and readying the pom-poms for passage of this disastrous legislation.

Ask Gibbs about Obama’s promise not to sign any bills that had earmarks, since the Health Care legislation is loaded with special favors. I am sure he will tap dance around it — and come up with usual bluster and to try and change the subject — and begin with the “The real issue is…” and never answer the question. Don’t let him get away with it.
And what about the promise to be transparent — and no back room deals — it would all be available for the American public to see on CSPAN.

Will Gibbs be able to put together a coherent sentence?

I’m confused: So you’ll be chatting with a teleprompter? Bill Ayers? Chairman Mao? Chris Matthews? That guy on Saturday Night Live?

Don’t wimp out Jake. You have to start
holding these guys’s feet to the fire.
Just pretend its George Bush and pin
him to the wall. I would love to see
some tough, real questions with follow
up questions if they dance around with
you.

Dear Comrade Gibbs: Not that you probably pay any attention to this, but please show us in the Constitution where the federal government has the authority to tell me I have to (under penalty of a fine or even jail sentence) purchase one of your great insurance plans.
.
Also please comment on the provision that Comrade Harry Reid has placed into the Senate health care legislation where there can be no reconsideration of the health care bill in the future. Any such attempts would be deemed “out of order”. Please tell us how this provision seeks to maintain a “limited” federal government.

Will you ask Gibbs if ALL democrats are Facist Pigs now? and prove to us they are not….. we fought a war to stop facism…. remember?????

Let’s add to you list that this legislation subvertly institutes price controls on insurance companies, denying them the opportunity “make a fair profit” as legislated in the treatment of regulated utilities (goal is to squeeze out/bankrupt insurance companies – at least the ‘non-chosen’ who do not have WH/Congressional connections – at which point policy holders will be forced into ‘public exchange’. Believe it, folks – this legislation is the precursor to a public option/socialized medicine/govt. controlled medicine.

So you’ve changed your mind again; Obama is not longer a tool of the health insurance industry and Wall Street – he’ back to being a destroyer of democracy. Excellent. Two sides of the mouth working overtime.

Good Luck Jake…and please, please don’t allow this thuggish administration bend your integrity. You have been a balanced reporter through this past year and if you just stick to your impartial reporting and maintain your ethics, you will be wildly sucessful in your life and most important, you will be able to look your children in their eyes and know that theirDaddy did a good job, they will be proud of you.
Listen to your inner voice and ask the tough questions…that is the medias job…do it for the rest of the MSM that slacks off. God Speed Jake.

Somebody has got to get the message to these idiots that we do not want rationed, socialized, government run medical. It is unconstitutional to try to make us participate in it.

jb Said: “Will Gibbs be able to put together a coherent sentence?”
=====================================
LOL …. yes, I think so. Well, even if Gibb’s “just a little” coherent, it will be a HUGE improvement over George Bush (didn’t know who the President of Pakistan was before he was elected) or Sarah Palin (Katie Couric interview). … LMAO!… Good God, the candidates that us republicans put forward????????????

Can Napalitano stop making excuses? Gibbs needs to stop also. The ball was dropped, we had the intel on this terrorist and some useless beaurecrat cant figure out what to do with it.

This nation is on a downward spiral with not only health care in crisis, but the entire infrastructure.
stop the partisanship, grow up, and get to work

Thanks Jake for keeping some pressure on these guys from the White House. Janet was a total tape recorder and barely acknowledged that we almost lost 300 people to an easy security catch. She kept parroting that the system “worked” after the incident. LOL. A lot of good that does! The only thing that “worked” was the failure of the detonator. Whatever watchlist he was on should have red lighted the need for increased security. It’s computerized right?

Nice job Jake,
Everyone is calling you out for not asking tough questions. You sat there and danced with Gibbs and Nopalitano not answering the questions then you get the republican on and decided it was time. This is not news. This is a biased, televised, political stunt.
Posted by: Jeff | December 27, 2009, 9:33 am 9:33 am
Who cares how many people are on the watch list. If I make a funny move on my credit card, I get a call. Can you imagine how many names are on that list that they track activity on?

I am honestly sick of the Republicans crying! For the last 8 years they done nothing and yet now everything that this President does is too expensive, not going to work and Americans are divesting their future. Hey McConnell, where was this “Cautious behavior” when Bush was in office? I pray the plan works so for all of the Republicans not to vote for it will show how incompetence all of you are!

First, I would like to congratulate Mr. Tapper on a fine effort. You were equally tough on Mitch McConnell and Robert Gibbs, which makes for a truly informative program. Second, it is a shame that people posting on this page continue to cloak themselves in partisan attacks and misinformation. Healthcare reform is favored by most people. A significant number of people who have voiced displeasure with the legislation have done so because the reform does not go far enough. Republicans, and their allies in the moderate Democratic caucus have successfully engineered the almost complete evisceration of the bill and now crow that the bill will be largely ineffective in controlling costs. It is interesting to note that for all those who accuse the Administration of socialism, a claim we have heard before when any progressive legislation has been proposed, like social security and medicare, their rhetoric sounds strikingly similar to the fascists who have always been the enemy of the rights and welfare of everyday people.

GET EVERY TECH GENIUS ON BOARD AND HAVE ALL 500,000 NAMES FLAGGED TO RECEIVE EXTRA SCREENING EVERY TIME THEY FLY-WHY HAVR A LIST IF ITS TOO LONG TO USE????
