George Will on Tiger: ‘People Are Going To Forgive Him’
Though Tiger Woods announced an indefinite leave from professional golf, George Will expects to see him back on the links.
During the “This Week” Roundtable Will said, “Tiger Woods is a really good golfer and people are going to pay to see him do that. And people are going to forgive him and they are going to quit looking at him as an exemplar. Remember, no telling how many home runs Babe Ruth would have hit if he’d gone to bed a little earlier and a little more often with Mrs. Ruth.”
Republican strategist Ed Gillespie said if he were in Tiger’s shoes, he would stay out of the game for a year before surfacing. “He would probably benefit from going underground for a while, tending to his home situation,” Gillespie said, calling the episode, “remarkably sad.”
Arianna Huffington pointed out that Woods had won 14 majors and as of now has 11 alleged mistresses and that “any minute now [the mistresses] are going to overtake the majors.”
April Ryan added that Woods greatly expanded the reach of the sport and, “the golf world needs Tiger and Tiger needs golf.”
Huffington said the scandal offers a teachable moment for philanderers and laid down one of Arianna’s Rules: “Any man who wants to cheat on his wife, remember texting is the new lipstick on the collar.”

by the way, isn’t funny that his wife -who is plainly guilty of domestic assault and battery – is getting a free ride in all of this? I’ve said it many times before, but adults should not be permitted to hit other adults save in cases of self-defence – and those that do hit others for reasons unattached to self-defence should be punished severely. If Elin Nordegren was a man, she would be behind bars right now – and that is exactly where she belongs. Of course, we are a nation of double standards and women, god bless ‘em, just love those double standards.

George Will reverting to type and using only male thought processes to declare all is forgiven on the Tiger Woods front. Gillespie shows some common sense. Huffington adds a touch of humor and April Ryan (who the heck is she anyway?), you just roll your eyes as you walk on by someone (Ryan) who declared herself irrelevant with her assessment of Tiger.

Tiger just surpassed Bill Clinton as my Hero. Yea.. Clinton had some young intern in the White house, but she wasn’t much better looking the Hillary. NOW, Tiger is the man.. he has some nice looking ladies waiting in every spot he goes. (YES, I am being Sarcastic). WHO CARES PEOPLE! Our politicians are spending us to Ruin. Stealing us blind and all we care about is TIGER WOODS???? No wonder we in such a bad way.

I don’t blame him for leaving. The Media is out of control. So now the best golfer that’s ever been has walked away from golf. The media needs some gov regulation…
1. media should be responsible for making money (advertisement) from fraudulent sellers.
2. invasion of privacy to the extent that it puts peoples health welfare and right to a life in jeopardy should carry fines..personal and corporate.
this trash they put on tv is an embrassment to America. the whole industry is losing it’s soul because of greed….they are so self rightous about it too WHAT a BAD JOKE they are!
I say TURN IT OFF AMERICA. call the advertisers and stop buying products from these trash channels

This is more an America problem than a Tiger problem. Marriage has its good points, and bad points. In other civilized countries people get married if they want children and the men want to know who they are responsible for–but then they have their affairs on the side. Every French man has at least one mistress and no one cares. Muslim countries allow men multiple wives at one time.
Marriage as practiced in the US is an unnatural institution. Marriage needs to be abolished. Let men and women have as many partners as they want. Require marriage only if there are children and people need a legal way to know who is responsible for which child or children. The idea of one wife or husband for an entire life is absurd.

Call me old fashioned, but I will no longer be a fan of this guy. For those knocking the institution of marriage: Your mantras will cause hardships for the children unfortunately trapped in the world that you desire. Do us all a favor and avoid having offspring.

The media is out of serious control related to this story just how they missed the boat on the weapons of mass destruction. Focus on the insignificant of things and while the things that really matter fall by the waste side. Tiger Woods with a billion dollars do not have to play another round of golf and live the rest of his life in Nevada on a brothel if he wants to. Again, do not look for celebrities and sports figures to be icons to your children. You the parents, grandparents, teachers should be who your children are to emulate. If you are not worthy of a person than you should not be slamming Tiger!

How many guys would take on all of Tigers troubles if they could only play golf like him for just one day,I wounder?

Tiger cheated on his wife. I hope he makes amend by keeping his word and staying away from golf for at least a year. He needs to spend time with his family or he will go back to his philandering ways.
Tiger, you need to go to church and make a good confession.

there are so many hypocrites in american media. tiger had sex with women so what!!! he is no worse than the town ram that nobodoy reports on. I think he should keep on golfing and should not give up his game because of media pressure!!! hypocrites!!!!!

He’ll come back and people will mostly forget. They always do. Besides, this is still mostly a man’s game and men probably envy him.
Posted by: secondlook | December 13, 2009, 1:45 pm 1:45 pm
People will forgive him, but he will never be a role model for boys and young men. Maybe he can work for world poverty, or world peace. Human Tiger has so many mates. I am wondering how many mates an animal tiger can have.

Taking a year off from golf will do nobdy any good, especially Tiger. When he comes back, the scandal will resurface as big as ever. The media, especially the tabloids” will be all over him again. He needs to confront his “transgressions” by going public now and put this behind him. Only then will people forgive and forget.

I won’t. After similar incidents with Kobe and, more recently, Steve McNair, you’d like to think that he would know better. Just incredibly poor judgement.

First this was no LITTLE mistake, it was a commitment to sexual infidelity. How would he feel if someone treats his little girl that way, what an example for his kids. This was widespread abuse, lust, whatever you want to call it. It indicates a rotten to the core character. Second when you make a billion dollars in public, your life is going to be public, you can’t take the money, then say leave me alone(although there should be a balance in media/privacy) I have no respect and will never watch him play again

I a surprised Cookie Roberts hasn’t said “just shoot him” yet.
Other than that, this whole thing is a topic of unbelief and stunned second takes… this is so out of left field to hear all this crap come to surface from a quite figure, so all we can walk away with this is.. life is unpredictable at it’s most routine.

What’s the fuss? What he does is still just pasture pool. Not as though it is something important like sucking flatuses out of car seats.
Posted by: hank_v | December 13, 2009, 5:39 pm 5:39 pm
I doubt many people will forgive him. Forget, maybe, but not forgive.
Men like Tiger don’t change. He might play professional golf again but now that everybody knows his golf game was fueled by wild kinky sex with multiple partners, he won’t be respected by anybody except other men who thrive on wild kinky sex with multiple partners.
Tiger didn’t partake in the type of cheating that David Letterman did. Tiger’s cheating is a MAJOR perversion.
His glory days are SOOOOO over. His kids will have to live with his perverted legacy forever. How sad. I hope Elin divorces him.

I find it it very amusing that accenture has decided to drop Tiger from their endorsement roster. What a farce!!! Accenture, a consulting firm, wow I bet no one ever cheats on their spouse in that environment!!(Maybe I am speaking from personal experience, just a little.) I don’t know why this bothers me so much, holier than thou was just never my cup of tea.

Just another plain, clear as day example that marriage is rarely ever between one man and one woman. Those bigots that vote against marriage equality for gays should really be working on improving heterosexual marriage.

When will the IRS criminal division visit the home, his corporate offices, the offices of his advisers, and the office of his charity? Based on many reports, it sure looks like millions have been spent on endless luxury gifts and partying, world travel for bimbos, and all the rest. Was all this segregated from legitimate business expenses–or reimbursed–or are taxpayers essentially subsidizing his lifestyle via tax breaks. Note that one bimbo told a paper that his “organization” handled some expenses.

People amaze me more and more each day. Why do they make so much noise about Tiger Woods? Because everyone likes to know that there is imperfections even in perfect people. At the end of the day we should all realize that human traits good and bad are in all of us. We are tempted to do this or that and we some times make bad choices!! That doesn’t make for a bad person; but rather someone that’s made some bad choices.. How many men or women out there do you think are capable of warding off temptations given the same situations that Tiger was in.. Anyone that answered that isn’t thinking clearly, simply, because how can you imagine that kind of situation and the pressure he must deal with every day. How hard must it be to be the best in any field, and to have beautiful women making offers that most men dream about. I’m not excusing the behavior, just trying to be a little realistic. Give me a million dollars, a beautiful wife, and what ever else; I’m still a human being and I’ll make mistakes. Hell I bet it even stinks in the bathroom when he takes a crap!!….

Huh you are wise beyond your years.
I got such a kick out of Dayahka’s unenlightened soulless post.
Beware men, there’s women who believe such drivel. Stay away from those types!
I agree they should be sterilized before attempting to reproduce.
btw, Thank God I don’t live in France.

” Those bigots that vote against marriage equality for gays should really be working on improving heterosexual marriage.” – Jeffrey1234
Dearest Jeffy,
There is no such thing as marriage for gays.
Marriage is a union between a man and a woman.
A union between two gay people of the same sex is called Garriage.
Get with the times Dude!

People just aren’t directly affected. His wife, on the other hand, may take him for the many millions he already has, whether he ever makes the money again, or not, and he deserves that!

I am amazed that ANYONE would be so eager to forgive Tiger Woods what he has done to to his family, just because he is such a great Golfer!!
Most women would forgive ONE tresspass, with ONE WOMAN,..but TEN??? Get real.. Would a man forgive his wife ten lovers because she was” a great Golfer”? Double Standard, indeed .

I’ve searched long and hard on the ABC “News” site for references to the January 2010 pre-trial hearing in California Federal District Court on the suit to discover Barack Obama’s United States Citizenship eligibility to hold the office of President.
I can not find a single mention of it here…but can find PLENTY about Tiger Woods’infidelity to his wife.
Amazing how mainstream media manipulates the information they feed in order to side-track the focus of the people.
More amazing is how many buy in to the mush…wouldn’t want too many people concerning themselves with real issues, would we?

Of course the Tiger Wood’s story isn’t the most important thing out there, but it’s indicative of the irresponsible sexual recklessness of modern America. My father was a boxer, and a good one, until he killed a man in the ring, but when he died two years ago,he told me his biggest regret was cheating on my mother and losing his family,he died a lonely bitter man,but he had a good time…for a while…so will Tiger and every man who follows him.

I would like to see the MSM and the sports world stop minimizing the serious psychological condition that Tiger Woods is in. Without much consideration, he acted in a reckless
manner, even jeopardizing his own life when at his age he practiced unsafe sex.
I believe that Tiger should get himself together and also get tested. Vested interests must realize that comes before
golf.

As I insinuated, Tiger has the propensity to go right back to where he was, even regaining big endorsements. It is feasible that Tiger endured some form of breakdown, not unusual today,
especially when considering individuals whose vocation resides in sports or entertainment. I say in 2010, if he gets help, observers and fans will respect him for his courage to do so.

Firstly, I would go withe Arianna Huffington’s take on Tiger mostly because I view her perception and intellect as globally impressive. I participated for a while on her site and the experience was always enjoyable. This is a matter of the worst judgement on Tiger’s part I have ever seen in the 21 century. I have been married for 28 years and have the imagination of any man. There is no such thing as safe sex anymore, divorces are financially crippling, it is no fun to miss your family from a studio in South Miami eating beeferoni and you always get caught. So I put up with the tear downs and keep it nice and straight. There is no sensible alternatives these days.

I have written that Tiger Woods was compelled to seek treatment and looking back he did. That was a strategic step in repairing this awful ongoing mess. With today’s modern medicine and approach to breakdowns or personality disorders I was of the opinion that he could swing a comeback. Sometimes people make bad chess moves in life and when they release the pawn it must remain in the new square.I really do not know how Tiger is going to overcome the most damaging event to his credibility. That was intimacy without the use of contraceptives. This will be difficult to reconcile with both parents and their kids independently I wish him well.
