Lieberman vs. Liberals ‘for Lieberman’

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: With Sen. Joe Lieberman vowing to block a health care bill that includes a public option, liberals are pushing back — with a familiar-sounding organization featured in a new round of ads.

The ad from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee features the chairman of the Connecticut for Lieberman Party purporting to "explain" Lieberman's opposition to the public option.

"We know that Connecticut voters support it 3-1, but Joe never forgets who he ran to represent — himself," John Mertens says in the ad. "It's not about you. It's all about Joe."

Lieberman, I-Conn., started the Connecticut for Lieberman Party in 2006, to help him run as an independent when he lost the Democratic primary that year. After the election, however, liberal activists in Connecticut took over the party apparatus, and have turned it into an anti-Lieberman organization.

Officials with the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, which has also run ads targeting Senators Ben Nelson, D-Neb., and Max Baucus, D-Mont., say they're spending an initial $40,000 to run the ad, in Connecticut and Washington, DC. More spending is possible based on the outcome of online fundraising efforts.

This is funny. What republicans need to remember is that many of us voted for Lieberman to be the DEMOCRATIC VICE PRESIDENT. So what- we’re supposed to be happy that he has turned into a monster that has no resemblance to the Democratic party? This guy gave a speech at the REPUBLICAN convention. Now you tell me Republicans (especially those that keep screaming about RINO’s) what would you do to your candidate that no longer votes with the party? Hmm? Yep, that’s what I thought.

One of our own? And after giving in to his begging and letting him keep his committee positions? I can’t think of anything negative they could say about this guy that I’d object to. If they “reward” him like he should be, they’ll yank him off his committees and move his office to the basement next to the janitor’s room. Or give the custodians that office and move him into the janitor’s room.

It’s about time Dems are learning from the Republicans how to make a point that stings. Lieberman certainly deserves negativity for pretending to be a Democrat when really he’s just a Me Me Me politician. We need a public option to help bring down health insurance costs. What is he thinking?
