McConnell Says all 40 Senate Republicans Will Oppose Health Reform Bill
ABC’s Z. Byron Wolf reports:
Democrats are having trouble rallying around a health reform proposal because it lacks the public option that most members of the caucus want. No problem for Republicans. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters after a weekly planning meeting with his caucus that Republicans would be united against the bill. "I have 40 unified republicans who think that this bill is not the right way to go,” said McConnell. Republican Susan Collins of Maine, who Democrats had hoped would come around to their bill, was cool to the proposal earlier Tuesday even though she supported dropping the public option and a secondary proposal to allow people 55 – 64 buy in to Medicare. Sen. Olympia Snowe, also of Maine, would seem to be Democrats’ final hope for Republican support. She has yet to weigh in on the latest developments. Democrats have described their opportunity to pass health reform as historic – numerous attempts to pass a health reform bill have failed over the last 100 years. Republicans have started a new riff on the argument. McConnell said today that Democrats’ bill would be a “mistake of historical proportions.”

Hang tough Democrats no Public option,no health care bill. If you can not deliver than it is better to go back to the drawing board and hold out for a public option,

The Republican party as it exists today is a mistake of historical proportions. They feel their role in Congress is to simply vote NO on everything and wait until the next election. Democrats aren’t much better but Republicans refusal to even engage Democrats in meaningful reform is shameful.

Senator McConnell tells it like it is and seems to be the voice of reason. The Dems egos are too big to admit that the Republicans ideas may actually work. They may need to save some space in that Illinois prison for all the people that can’t pay their health insurance.

Is this any surprise at all? The Republicans made clear in their bad-faith negotiating on the stimulus (even the guy who got a $70 billion amendment approved and in the bill voted no!) they will vote no on everything. Just like it was more important for Republicans in the 90′s to mock Clinton’s clumsy (but well intended) attempts to kill Bin Laden as “Monica Missiles,” they care more about their next election than what is best for America.

“The Dems egos are too big to admit that the Republicans ideas may actually work.”
What an assinine comment. The Republicans have no ideas. And we have the previous 8 years as testament to how well Republican ideas have worked. They all but destroyed the nation’s economy.
The only idea they have is to smear their opponents and constant fear-mongering to scare the public.

You have been lied to, bob.
This ‘study’ actually did not even verify if the subject had insurance or not at the point of death.

McDonnell & Liberman
As frustrating as all the disarray that drives the Democratic Party is, even when they’re not compromising away our needs to vengeful Joe Liberman, on its worst day, The Democratic Party has done far more for “We the People” and is much better for America than the C Street House extension Republican Party of Boehner, Cantor, McConnell and Palin marching in lock step with Corporate greed.
