MoveOn Mobilizes Against Obama on Afghanistan

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: The liberal drumbeat against President Obama’s new Afghanistan policy is about to get a whole lot louder. MoveOn.org, the liberal advocacy group that claims 5 million members, today sent an e-mail blast urging members to contact the White House to register displeasure with the forthcoming announcement. “After talking to MoveOn members about this possibility for months, it's become clear what most of us think: This is wrong. Everyone knows that George W. Bush left a mess in Afghanistan, but escalation only deepens our involvement in a quagmire,” the e-mail from MoveOn.org Political Action reads. “It'll cost the lives of thousands of American troops and Afghan civilians, and it won't make us safer. And with urgent priorities like health care, the climate crisis, and a struggling economy to tackle here at home, it simply does not make sense to divert billions more dollars to this war.” “More and more foreign policy experts are coming to the conclusion that military escalation is not going to solve the problem in Afghanistan. And the majority of Americans already oppose the war. So today the President needs to hear from those of us who disagree with his decision.” The move marks the most significant break to date between Obama and MoveOn.org. The organization endorsed Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination in February 2008, and has been active in pressing Congress to support the president on health care this year. Yesterday, liberal filmmaker Michael Moore posted a scathing open letter to the president, pleading with him to back off plans to order more troops to Afghanistan.

Guess that MoveOn doesn’t really know what they want…..or they simply have very little real insight?

Is Obama now being thrown under his own bus? This could get good…

I have never been so disappointed. Oba-
ma’s plan is no better than Bush’s. There is no reason to stay in Afghanis-
tan or Iraq and the sooner out the bet-
ter. The sooner we leave that area, the
sooner we can gain a little respect.

So George Soros (the man behind moveon.org) disapproves of what Obama is doing. Why is a foreigner even allowed to spend money trying to influence American politics?

i don’t see how any person or group should have to agree with a politician 100 percent of the time. moveone doesnt blindly support a particular candidate no matter what just because they’re democrat. that’s ridiculous. too bad republicans don’t have a brain of their own.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
For the same reason that an even wealthier foreigner, Ruppert Murdoch, is allowed to use FOX news as a Republican neo-con mouthpiece.

No surprise. MoveOn is an idiot-fest.

Move On is simply a complete joke. If Abraham Lincoln was President he would have them arrested for treason.

Incompetent was the other one who led the U.S. into 2 Wars. After he realized how foolish he was, he left Afganistan to “fester” with the very people that killed Americans on our soil. Thus leaving our troops to fend for themselves. EIGHT YEARS AGO!!!!

This is not surprising for anyone that follows politics over decades. It’s the same formula that lots of politicians have followed before.
To get elected they “energize” (what a terrible word) their base – be it right or left. They make appeals to the middle while making sure that their wing is on their side.
After getting elected they move to the center and tick off both their enemies and their most rabid supporters.
And before you start howling that Obama is not moving to the middle consider – if he were out to please the liberals he would insist on a public option in health care, he would have begun to withdraw from Iraq months ago and he would have pushed to immediately changed the military policy on gays.
Instead he is moving slowly on things and trying to bring the middle with him while risking upsetting the liberal wing of the Democratic party.
Republicans have done the same thing – look at Poppa Bush who didn’t push laws against abortion, didn’t invade Iraq and didn’t draw a line in the sand on tax increases – the same formula – move to the middle and tick off the right wing.
This is politics as usual – no surprise.

Every time Obama pulls on his leash, Georgie Soros is right their to tug him back again! This is like a Faustian opera.

I love it !! Dems are eating themselves like hyenas. The thing that really makes me think how stupid this party is getting is the fact that they boast themselves to be the guardians of freedom in the world, civil rights defenders, women liberation and so many “get the vote to stay in power” ideologies and yet they care less is the savages of the Taliban take over this fragile country again and start killing people at public places, from decapitation to hanging. How can you possibly live with that in your conscience liberals ??

Being in Afghanistan is not something anyone wants to do, but, sometimes you have to do the best with what your situation is. To just walk away while it may seem simple to a lot of people, would be murder to a lot of people in Afghanistan, not to mention giving our enemies a go ahead to go on the offensive, to bring the war right back here to our soil, and it will happen.Who wants to have the blood of the Afghanistan people on their hands, along with the blood of the people here, if we just run away. We can run around crying for peace, but there are a lot of people out there who have no interest in peace. We weren’t in Afghanistan, or Iraq when this whole thing started.
