George…I plan my Sunday around you…my family is trained…even my 18 year old daughter tries to roust herself from sleep to catch “the Sunday Funnies”. My friends and I reach for the phone at 12 noon to discuss what went on.
I think you’ll be great and that you and Robin will be a terrific team…but I don’t think I can watch you…JuJu is just too much. I’ll miss you.

Sad… You were getting so close to replacing Tom Russert as the voice of the people, now you are going to be the next Charlie Gibson??? Nothing against Charlie, but you were on the way to being much more than a “Morning Person” We need a voice to hold Government accountable, now all we will have is David Gregory and Jake Tapper…Please might as well shut off the TV as all we will hear is the ” government spin with no opposition. Free Press died a little today.

I know it’s Tim Russert. I hit the wrong key, but not the wrong tone. We need more accountability, not happy talk.

Now who will replace Tim Russert..Jake Tapper???YIKES!

I will miss you George. Thanks for all the years at ‘This Week.’ And promise you’ll take over from Diane Sawyer again one day . . . as ABC news anchor!

Yasou George!

Bummer, I never watch Good Morning America but I never miss a week of your Sunday show. It seems like big corporations (ABC) make a lot of bad choices. You will be great, of course, but I wonder what happens to the Sunday audience which is a lot more unique.

George I have been a fan of your since you wrote your book. I am loyal to This Week because of you and your intillegence, elegance and excellent questions. Please don’t leave This Week.
I wish you well but fear this might not be the best move. I hope for your sake it works out really well for you. You deserve much success but you will be missed by those of us seeking a serious brand of news TV. I am afraid I just can’t tune in to the morning show’s light weight banter. Ugg.
Best to you & your family.

Congratulations to you George! Wishing you much success and luck on GMA! Will miss you on This Week. David Brinkley, George Stephanopoulos, who is next?

Best wishes George- I felt that you were 100% objective and played it right down the middle. We have have never met, but I feel you a man of high principles.

I’m sorry you decided to become a “media personality”, rather than having a serious job – something the likes of Walter Cronkite would not have done.

Posted by: aj | December 11, 2009, 8:37 am 8:37 am

People are kind of harsh here. They are assuming you’ll just do as the others have done on those shows. I bet you bring a more “hard news” approach to GMA. I was never a fan before, but I’ll start watching now. I know for sure I’ll miss you on This Week- I love how you zero in on the big issues and always ask the questions that need asking. Best of luck.

Any one who believes George can somehow morph GMA into anything OTHER than a happy-happy-joy-joy entertainment-this-morning type of show is daft. It’s a sell-out move, but I do not blame hime one bit, I’d've done it too. Career over credibilty, my friends.

Rob,Rob ,Rob, Who have you been watching all these years?Government spin with no opposition is exactly what George has been doing.
I agree that we need a voice to hold the Government accountable, but George has not been that person. He is to closely aligned to the liberal Democratic party to ever be thought of as a real journalist, just a mouthpiece for their Socialist propaganda. The Free Press did not die today,Fox news is keeping it alive and well despite the protest of the Obama administration. protest.

I’ve been watching This Week through the years first with David Brinkley when I never missed a show then with George Stephanopoulos, and have always enjoyed it except when Katrina vanden Heuvel is on the panel.
Please continue the winning format under a new host, and by all means keep George Will there every week.

Posted by: Sam in Pittsburgh | December 11, 2009, 11:12 am 11:12 am

George – I hope this is a decision that you’re happy with and something you are looking forward to. If, however, you had no say in this move than too bad for ABC. I love you on This Week and think that serious journalism, espcially in this unpredictable world that we live in, is more important that some of the features on Good Morning America. Again, I love Robin Roberts — think she’s great but I just think of you when I want to hear what about what’s really going on in the world. Whatever the case…congratulations on your new endeavor. You’ll be great!!!!

Posted by: Kim | December 11, 2009, 11:16 am 11:16 am

NO! You can’t move. What will Sunday mornings be? Nothing but fluff and football. Is it really the best move? I do wish you luck, but I really don’t see you lasting there. No MEAT in the show.

Nice to know that someone with a lot of savvy, will be taking the helm of GMA.
Of course, we will expect you to get out and about, in other areas, from time to time, as needed.

George as I have said before, you are one of my favorite people. I will be happy to see you on GMA and look forward to you acting goofy from time to time as the others do. It is a different side of you and I think you will enjoy it. I will miss Diane as she is a great interviewer as you are. You both ask the tough questions while respecting the position of the people you are questionning. At least you give them a chance to respond not like the unprofessionals of Hannity and Limbaugh or Beck. They only like the sound of their own voices not the response of the people they are questionning. I wish you luck and also wish you would stay on This Week. Love that show also.

Where’s Elizabeth Vargas? Did they punish her for being pregnant?
She’s a great anchor and I hate how they’ve stuck her w/ 20/20, which no one watches.
They should have Vargas take over This Week if they don’t have her as anchor.

George is great in just about any format. But Jake Tapper is a TERRIBLE choice for Sunday morning. He may be a smart guy, but he has absolutely no charisma. This Week has been appointment television for me, but now I’m going back to Meet the Press. David Gregory beats Jake Tapper any day. By far.

I will soooooo miss you on This Week, though I’m kinda hoping you’ll take George Will and Peggy Noonan with you when you hand it to someone new (hee, hee)

Posted by: Serafina | December 11, 2009, 7:11 pm 7:11 pm

Oh, George…our Sunday mornings were made special because of your program, This Week! We loved your candid response to a political guest and the knowledge and persona you brought to the program! How can it be that you won’t be with a program that was YOU!
Of course, we wish you well…but we won’t be well, since you won’t be with This Week…as Tim Russert is not with Meet the Press and you, gone, now…two enjoyable, informative programs have come to ruin!!

I agree with most of the posts, you are well informed with curent events and being on GMA will put a hold on your carrer, but I wish you luck and the best in the New Year.

sorry it’s career

Bury Sunday Morning News…with George and Tim gone the rest is a waste of time. Thanks. My family gets me back on Sunday mornings and Evenings (when I watch the podcasts) and I finally kill off my news addiction. Good luck George, it must be because of a better family schedule because it ain’t about going to a higher quality show. Don’t get it…but maybe someone will explain?

Posted by: Tom | December 12, 2009, 2:56 am 2:56 am

This is so disappointing. George and This Week go together like hand and glove. I don’t know how we will accept anyone else! As others have commented, Mr Stephanopoulus brings such intelligence, objectivity, and professionalism to this weekly political news program. My husband and I look forward to the show every week; it is the highlight of our Sunday morning. Wish this decision could be un-done. I will only hope that he is permitted to maintain the same high level of performance and quality on the daily morning show, but if the current venues are any indication, that is unlikely.
Either way, we wish him much success and can only hope to see him again on This Week! Why not let him do both?
Just leave the silly stuff on the AM programming to others and that way he will have the time. Thank you.

George – I think you were improving in “balanced reporting” area, although clearing leaning left.
So, overall, you did a nice job of leading the discussion and allowing equal amounts of time.
Good luck. I’ll be interested in seeing GMA with you and Robin.

Posted by: pcafe | December 12, 2009, 8:27 pm 8:27 pm

you are great on this week, you shouldnot leave it. Let robin roberts take over for Diane and Chris Cuomo be her co-anchor. What will george will dowithout you?. ABC consult your viewers before you make these moves.

Congratulations George, We will be watching. Whats next-George for President? I would vote for ya!

Posted by: June Stanwood | December 13, 2009, 9:36 am 9:36 am

Congradulations, but I would have picked you for ABC’s top spot. I have followed your rise since the early Clinton days. I am happy for you, but saddened for Sundays loss of the best news show available. George said so, is my news mantra. You have become such a trusted figure in the news world, like Conkrite, we will feel the loss for a long time. Yes I am a fan of GMA and it starts my day, but it is the difference of fluff vs hard news. I’m sure ABC will find a replacement for This Week, but it will never be the same. Not even Charlie or Chris could replace you.
Bet Regards,
Carole Lewis

Congratulations George! Good Morning America will get an all-round savvy professional, but I suspect it was a good career move for you. This Week prgram will have huge shoes to fill as they say.

Posted by: Ray T | December 13, 2009, 12:34 pm 12:34 pm

When I heard you were invited to be part of GMA, I couldn’t believe you’d even consider it. I was wrong. Also disappointed. I hope for the viewers’ sake that you’re replaced with someone as knowledgeable as you. Thank you for being so fair-minded and low-key. You will be missed.

This sounds like a step toward eventually becoming anchor of the evening news. You’re following Brinkley’s footsteps. Don’t allow the cheese of morning television to soften you too much!

Posted by: Kristin | December 14, 2009, 11:51 am 11:51 am

George, my Sunday mornings were very special because of you. Now, I watch you on GMA and can’t help to think it’s a waste of your talents because the amount of time you are seen/heard is definetely not enough. Any way you can still do Sundays?
Hopeful in Pennsylvania.

Posted by: Maria Espinosa | December 15, 2009, 4:34 pm 4:34 pm

Dear George,
I’m very sad that you’re leaving This Week! Sunday is my only day to sleep late but I always make it a point to wake up early, watch the show and then go back to sleep. I won’t be doing that anymore. I’m going to miss your round table discussions and the sunday funnies. I wish you well on GMA and will watch you every morning on that show from now on. Welcome to NYC!

Posted by: Gabriela | December 16, 2009, 10:16 am 10:16 am

Dear George, What are you thinking? I can’t beleive you would leave a serious news show to interview celebrities and do cooking segments. But maybe you are just as disgusted with the lack of real truth in anything the politicans say. When is disclosure going to happen? When is the truth about 9/11 going to be reported. I’m sure you know alot that you are never allowed to even ask a question about. Maybe this will give you more freedom to talk about this stuff, but will anybody be listening?

Posted by: Debbie | December 17, 2009, 6:49 pm 6:49 pm

Ok…so I’m getting used to you on GMA, but Sunday’s are not the same. Looked forward to you each week and your direct approach at getting thru the BS. I guess watching you everyday may not be so bad, just different. Don’t lose your touch!

Posted by: Dana | January 11, 2010, 9:01 pm 9:01 pm

I agree with these others George. I don’t even need to get up on Sunday! I’m not at ALL excited about watching THIS WEEK anymore. That Tapper guy seems ANGRY and Moran, he’s more about himself — you weren’t at all about yourself on the show George. : ( You really cared about our country and right and wrong. (P.S. Obama was rude to you when you interviewed him during the campaign. I felt that he did for sure diss you.)
