regarding the extra 30,000 troops being deployed: “We will begin to bring them home in 18 months.” what does this mean?
It means the Extra 30,000 troops that are now going to be sent, will begin to come home in 18 months.
It does Not mean that all the troops that are now In Afghanistan will be sent home in 18 months.
It does Not mean that the Extra 30,000 troops will be sent home at once in 18 months.
It means the Extra 30,000 troops will begin to come home in 18 months.
I just love it when Republicans criticize because Republicans lie when they criticize.

Angie— Exactly what is the lie?
No one actually thinks that the plan is to send 30,000 now and extract 30,000 18 months from now. But regardless of that, the plan is still terribly flawed.
Sending combat troops with a timetable (even a loose one as you suggest this is) is like being a policeman on patrol and telling all the folks in the neighborhood that you will patrol monday thru wednesday, but not thursday and friday. All they have to do is wait three days to break the law and they are home free.. On top of all this, he has insisted that the deployment be accelerated so that all the new troops are in place within 6 months (normal timeframe would be over a year). This means that in all probability, a number of our troops will be sent to live in tent cities temporarily in a combat environment. This is a terrible risk that is completely unnesessary. The only purpose it serves is to allow Obama the ability to start pulling the troops before the next election (win or lose). This is a horrible plan that we will pay for in blood. War does not have a scoreboard or a time clock. Our president like the dems, does not seem to understand this.

Why is ABC News distorting and mostly ignoring the UN emails that reveal that scientists faked climate data and shows that “global warming” is simply a scam. It seems that we’ve been lied to by some scientists, the UN, and the Obama administration but ABC News won’t cover it. Could it be that ABC News is (obviously) being controlled by the US government or is it that they are pushing Obama’s agenda of deception??? Follow the money trail for answers.

The problem with the President’s speech is that he made it much a overall timetable which the Republicans were quick to criticized. Robert Gates gave far more detailed explanation of strategy. What the plan involves focusing on the problem areas first and most where the Taliban/al Qeda are concentrated. It does not have a fixed deadline because the situation on the ground will guide policy changes. He envisioned that in some areas, where the Taliban are not the strongest, the troops will turn the security over to the Afghan military sooner than later (in similar fashion in Iraq). Second thing is the timetable gives us the opportunity to lay it on the Afghan government that we will not be there forever or provide a blank check for long term- (the longer we are there, the more they consider us an occupying force, the more they resist us)

The troop escalation is ridiculous. Great job Nobel Peace Prize winner for letting us ALL down.
