‘Top Line’ — White House Party Crashers’ Blame Game

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: A tough day for the Secret Service in congressional hearings on the White House party-crashers caps a tough week for the White House on an uncomfortable story. On ABCNews.com’s “Top Line” today, we checked in with Politico’s Nia-Malika Henderson about the White House’s attempts to minimize the political fallout. “The White House did initially come out really strong in defending the East Wing, particularly the social secretary Desiree Rogers, essentially saying that she had no blame here, and pretty much put it on the Secret Service. But since then they pretty much backpedaled from that,” Henderson told us. The White House wants to keep Rogers from having to testify before Congress because “their perception is that the folks on the Hill are kind of making a bigger deal about this then should be made.” Is Rogers’ job in jeopardy? “Her job is certainly safe,” Henderson said. The White House immediately pivoted to the economy with a jobs summit today — part of a busy week that included a new Afghanistan strategy, and the first votes on the Senate health care bill.
