WATCH: U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Lights Up
ABC News’ Dean Norland reports: It took a speaker, a senator, a governor, Indian dancers, the Marine band and a seventh grader to get the job done. But it was mission accomplished as the Capitol Christmas tree lighting took place on the on the West Front Tuesday.
The tree is an 85-foot blue spruce from Arizona’s Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. Arizona Senator John McCain and Governor Janice Brewer welcomed those who braved the cold weather to witnesses the lighting.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who voice was raspy as the result of a cold, managed to make very brief remarks of welcome and appreciation. The speaker looked on as the switch to light the light the tree was actually flipped by Kaitlyn Ferencik, a seventh grader from Surprise, Arizona.
School children throughout Arizona made the nearly 5,000 ornaments that decorate the tree. This is the fifth year that energy saving LED lights have been used to illuminate the Capitol Christmas tree.
The White Mountain Apache Crown Dancers blessed the tree by performing dance. “The President’s Own” Marine Band supplied the holiday music.

If it’s a Christmas Tree, why does it look like a Hanukkah Bush?
I don’t remember the Bible’s mentioning a Christmas Tree at Jesus’ birth. Maybe the Magi brought it and no one noticed or didn’t think to mention it in the Gospels. Maybe someone should have taken pictures.
