Blue-State Blues: Win or Lose, GOP Sets Frame for ’10 in Massachusetts
By Rick Klein Did Republicans already win in Massachusetts? Not next Tuesday’s Senate election itself, of course — few observers really think that’s winnable even now, no matter how toxic the environment for Democrats these days. But the fact that this is a race at all — or, at least, the fact that it’s being treated like a race over the final week — is itself a victory that tells important tales for both parties. A narrative for 2010 didn’t have to wait beyond the first month of the year to get written. The pieces are there: the Kennedy seat, the fate of the health care bill, Tea Party fervor, an anti-establishment Republican, a Democrat clinging to a lead in the bluest of states. Democrats are being forced to spend very real resources in a place they should not, by any calculation, have to worry about it. They’re being met by resources (perhaps a more renewable variety at this stage) that Republicans never dreamed would be worth spending. And they’re being forced to combat the very real perception that if it can happen in the Hub, it can happen in Arkansas or Nevada or Virginia, too. “Aware that she has little time for the hand-shaking and baby-kissing of a standard political campaign, [Democratic candidate Martha Coakley] has focused instead on rallying key political leaders, Democratic activists, and union organizers, in hope they will get people to the polls,” David Filipov writes in The Boston Globe. “By at least one measure, her strategy is working: A Globe poll published Sunday showed her leading her Republican rival, state Senator Scott Brown, by 15 percentage points,” he writes. “For many Democrats, that is too close for comfort, in a race for the seat held for so long by a Kennedy in one of the bluest states in the land. Other polls have showed the race much tighter. Despite that, there is a subdued, almost dispassionate quality to her public appearances, which are surprisingly few.” At the very least: “Massachusetts state Sen. Scott Brown (R) has thrown a major scare into the Democratic establishment in his bid to win next Tuesday's special Senate election over once heavily favored Attorney General Martha Coakley,” Dan Balz and Chris Cillizza write in The Washington Post. “A victory, or even a narrow loss, by Brown in the competition for the symbolically important seat would be interpreted as another sign that voters have turned away from the Democrats at the start of the midterm election year.” Not just a win is potentially dangerous for Democrats: “Brown’s threat to health reform is in some ways larger. He’s showing how Republicans can run against reform — something sure to play out in other high-profile campaigns this fall, such as those of Reps. Frank Kratovil Jr. (D-Md.) and John Adler (D-N.J.), along with Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) and Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.),” Politico’s Chris Frates reports.
“A close race — within five points, or even ten — would generate significant panic among Democrats in other races presumed to be safe,” The Atlantic’s Marc Ambinder writes. No running from health care — from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee’s new ad targeting Brown: “On health care? Brown wants to be the deciding vote to kill Ted Kennedy’s legislation.” “In a fresh sign of increasing nervousness among Democrats about the race, the national party committees on Tuesday chipped in more than $1 million to help boost Coakley’s prospects,” Roll Call’s Emily Cadei reports. Massachusetts Democratic Party Chairman John Walsh said Organizing for America is putting out the word to activists: “The call’s gone out that we need all hands on deck, formally, informally … by carrier pigeon, whatever we can get.” Coakley was in Washington for a fundraiser at a wine bar on Capitol Hill Tuesday night with the Massachusetts congressional delegation (optic alert!). The delegation’s dean, Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., was quoted by The Hotline as having said inside the fundraiser: “If we don't win this, 2010 will be hell for Democrats.” UPDATE: The Hotline updated its item this afternoon to say this statement was incorrectly attributed to Markey, but rather was said by Coakley. And, asked whether she’s asked President Obama to campaign for her, Coakley told reporters: “I haven’t.” Worth keeping an eye on — if Brown wins this could be huge: “Should Republican Scott Brown pull off an upset victory in next week's special election in Massachusetts, Senate Democrats may seek to use the chaos surrounding the appointment of Roland Burris last year as a precedent for delaying the swearing in of a man who campaigned as the 41st ‘no’ vote on health care reform,” Mike Memoli and Kyle Trygstad write for Real Clear Politics. In the broader picture — with apologies to Michael Steele…. “We believe we can win the majority,” House Minority Whip Eric Cantor, R-Va., told reporters Tuesday night, per ABC’s David Chalian. “We were prepared in 2006 and it didn't matter,” said Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., who heads up GOP House recruiting efforts for 2010. “And we have better seats to run in than we did in 1994.” (McCarthy will be a guest to talk 2010 recruiting on ABC’s “Top Line” live at noon ET Wednesday, on ABC NewsNOW and livestreaming at ABCNews.com.) A year in, touching new lows: That’s 37 percent approval for the president’s handling of health care, and 40 percent approval on the economy, inside the new Gallup Poll numbers. Quinnipiac has the president’s approval rating at 45-45 — and maybe getting close to buyer’s remorse: “American voters are split 45-45 percent on whether Barack Obama’s first year in office is a success or failure and split 35-37 percent on whether the U.S. would be better off if John McCain had won the 2008 election, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released today.” (Does this answer the question of whether a popular president would pull up unpopular programs, or vice versa?) And check out the moves from Harold Ford, as he gets more serious about a primary challenge to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., now giving an interview to The New York Times’ Michael Barbaro. Writes Barbaro: “He blasted her support for the proposed health care overhaul, which is expected to cost New York an extra $1 billion a year, and for opposing the taxpayer bailout of the financial industry.” “It was a mistake,” Ford said. “How can you be against ensuring that the lifeblood of your city and of your state survives?” More from the interview: “I don’t think it’s a great leap to go from civil unions to gay marriage…. To describe me as pro-life is just wrong. I am personally pro-choice and legislatively pro-choice.” On gun control: “I have come to better understand the issue.” (And: “I am a Yankees fan.”) Ford spokesman Davidson Goldin, to the New York Daily News’ David Saltonstall and Michael Saul: “The unelected senator does what she's told by a political establishment unaccustomed to tolerating independent thinking.” Back in Washington — as eyes turn to Haiti rescue efforts being directed out of the UN and the State Department, President Obama is expected to make an on-camera statement on the tragedy, ABC’s Jake Tapper reports. And President Obama has his first face-to-face meeting with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid since “Game Change” published. It’s a Wednesday morning health care meeting — no one is saying the president isn’t hands-on anymore — with about a dozen members of House and Senate leadership at the White House. In the afternoon, per ABC’s Sunlen Miller, “President Obama will tour a joint-labor management apprenticeship and training facility in Lanham, Maryland. The president will speak about creating clean energy jobs and is expected to highlight the CEA Quarterly Report to Congress on job creation though the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, released today.” Meanwhile, on the Hill Wednesday: the first hearing of the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, featuring the chiefs of Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, and Bank of America. “We'll look at the greed, the hubris and the corruption,” commission Chairman Phil Angelides, the former California state treasurer, tells McClatchy’s Greg Gordon and Kevin G. Hall. Timed carefully: “A senior administration official tells ABC News that on Thursday, President Obama will announce a new plan to recoup expected losses from the Wall Street bailout funds, the Troubled Asset Relief Program, in the form of a fee on the country's biggest financial firms,” ABC’s Jake Tapper and Matthew Jaffe report. “The amount of money raised by the fee will depend on the ultimate cost of TARP. The Obama administration doesn't believe TARP losses will exceed $120 billion.”
The AP’s Jim Kuhnhenn and Philip Elliott: “In proposing a multiyear levy on big banks, Obama is targeting an industry whose political deafness has vexed his administration.” Bloomberg’s Julianna Goldman and Ryan J. Donmoyer: “The move may have a bigger political than fiscal impact.” “No Seat for Wall Street at Tea Party,” reads the headline on Gerald F. Seib’s “Capital Journal” column: “The more searing heat, though, might come not from Washington's corridors of power but from the streets, where disjointed populist armies are starting to organize in the so-called tea-party movement.” Your stimulus update: “The $787 billion economic stimulus package has created or saved between 1.7 million and 2 million jobs, but its impact on the economy ebbed slightly in the final quarter of 2009 compared with prior months, the White House said Tuesday night,” Alec MacGillis writes in The Washington Post. “[The Council of Economic Advisers] estimates that the stimulus added between 1.5 and 3 percentage points to the growth in gross domestic product in the final quarter of 2009. That estimate, which is in line with other analyses, is lower than her office's estimate of stimulus-related impact in the third quarter, between 3 and 4 percentage points.” Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., ranking Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee: “Another word for it is propaganda.” While we’re talking cash: “The Obama administration plans to ask Congress for an additional $33 billion to fight unpopular wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, on top of a record request for $708 billion for the Defense Department next year, The Associated Press has learned.” Grateful? Afghan President Hamid Karzai, to ABC’s Diane Sawyer: “Blank checks we never had, actually. We really never had a blank check,” Karzai said. “But we're grateful even for the little money that's come to Afghanistan, even for the little help that's come to Afghanistan.” On health care — things aren’t quite as far along as the White House might have you believe. If these are last gasps from the left, they’re loud ones. “There's a big problem with the way the administration wants to pay for this,” House Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., tells Politico’s Patrick O’Connor and Kasie Hunt. They write: “In a Tuesday night caucus meeting, Michigan Rep. Sander Levin and Pennsylvania Rep. Mike Doyle both earned loud ovations after decrying the [Cadillac tax] levy in front of their colleagues, people present said.” Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y.: “We keep hearing them squeal like pigs in the Senate that they had a tough time getting to 60. Well, it wasn’t particularly a picnic for us to get to 218.” More Rangel: “We have serious problems on both sides of the Capitol. Serious problems,” he tells The Hill’s Jared Allen and Jeffrey Young. Also roiling some in the House: “Democratic leaders negotiating a compromise health care bill appear likely to reject a House provision requiring employers to offer generous coverage to their workers or else pay a steep payroll tax,” Lisa Wangsness writes in The Boston Globe. Look for a new House Democratic messaging push on health care Wednesday, with a Top 10 list of the bill’s high points coming from leadership. A sneak peek, as provided to The Note: “1. Protections against insurance company discrimination and losing coverage when you get sick… 2. Insurance security if you lose your job… 3. Relief for small businesses and employers, jobs for Americas… 4. No lifetime limits on coverage… 5. Free preventive care… 6. Independent consumer advocates and sunshine on rate increases… 7. Lower drug costs for seniors, lower premiums for early retirees… 8. Better access and stronger protections for women… 9. Extended coverage for young adults…10. At least 30 million more Americans will finally have health insurance.” Sarah Palin still doesn’t particularly care for Steve Schmidt. In her Fox News debut Tuesday, she said she didn’t watch Sunday’s “60 Minutes”: “It's a bunch of B.S. from [Steve] Schmidt and from some of those.” And on Sen. Reid’s comments: “A lot of us don't think along those lines… That somebody's skin tone would be criteria for a qualification for the presidency.” Coming Wednesday afternoon: T. Boone Pickens’ new ad — unveiled at a 2:30 pm ET teleconference, with John Podesta of the Center for American Progress Action Fund.
Kicker: “I tend to be much more informed about sports than I'd like.” — First Lady Michelle Obama, to People, on her husband’s ESPN viewing habit.
“George P.?” — House Minority Whip Eric Cantor, R-Va., asked if Republican candidates are asking for George Bush to campaign for them.

Sen. DeMint: GOP Race Could Go Until Convention
Obama Avoids Questions on Contraception Rule
I love the arrogance of the Dems who
feel they are the rightfull owners of
this seat without any regard to what
the citizens want. So if Kennedy had
this seat for so long, I would think
a change is long over due.

If Kennedy was the King of Massachusetts, I guess this election could be the rebellion up of his subjects? It seems fitting that the opening salvo of the 2010 populist movement against the govt be fired in Boston.

After Congress has spent most of 2009 debating health reform, what does Scott Brown and the GOP want to do? Trash it all. It has been 45 years since any real reform was made to the healthcare system. Republicans don’t want any of it. It’s too expensive. It’s not what the American people want. Have you talked to the American people Scott? Do you realize what private insurance has been doing over the last 45 years? Will we have to wait another 45 years until the GOP is finally “ready” for real reform?

Look out “progressives”; the tea party has begun!

So a guy holds a Senate seat for 45 years. What does this say about the Democrats in Massachusetts? They are serfs to the Kennedys. Imagine in over two generations, no Democrat was found worthy to take over his rule. You live in a selfish, corrupt tyranny up there, folks. And you want more of it???
Posted by: Coolerking | January 13, 2010, 9:57 am 9:57 am
Yes, TRASH IT ALL. Reform does not mean “Do something even if it’s wrong”!
Go Scott! The next Senator from Massachusetts (see, I spelled it right).

BOB! “BIG PHARMA” and “BIG INSURANCE” were at the SONOMA restaurant in DC at a “gala fundraiser” last night collecting huge amts of cash for Martha Coakley, the DEM from MASS, running for Kennedy’s seat…does that make sense to you? Take the blinders off!
Posted by: cindy | January 13, 2010, 9:58 am 9:58 am
No mention of the latest poll that put Brown in a statistical tie with Martha. I have never seen the excitement at this level in Mass for an election. I am in NH and donated cash to Brown. I think he raised over 2mil in two days. He has a chance to win and it will shake the foundation at capital hill.

The American people are starting to wake up and shake themselves free from the lies of the democrats.

It’s good to see that ABC (All Barrack Channel) is at least doing some real reporting of the news. It’s still troubling that the only poll referenced was the Boston Globe poll, which, ironically has Coakley with her widest margin of victory. The article failed to mention the other polls are close to or at a dead heat and Brown raised over $1 million in one day from small donation players.

I think the people of Massachusetts are sick of the Knennedy’s attitude that they have this power hold and nobody else can do the job but them. it’s time we move on and forget the kennedy’s – and the liberal agendas that they push. Time for change the republuicans should be able to get things back on track for Massachusetts and the rest of the country. We seen what the democrats can do, look at the mess we’re in now, and they still blame it on Bush.
Posted by: Greg C | January 13, 2010, 10:06 am 10:06 am
For those who think the GOP is against reform, who gave you Medicare supplemental coverage. That was Bush. That’s what seniors are fighting to keep and what Reid Pelosi Obama say we can’t afford. You can’t have it both ways. The future of the U.S. is already being lived in Caleefornia. 25% of our budget goes to pay government workers pension benefits.

Does it ever get tiring to write fluff pieces for a group of liars and thieves like the Democrats?
The bottom line is that Americans are not going to take your lies and promises any longer and I would certainly not want to be on your side of history when it all goes down.
Posted by: Tom B from Worcester | January 13, 2010, 10:07 am 10:07 am
Hey Bob, I am the American People, just like you and I don’t want this so called “healthcare reform.” This “reform” will put my small business out of business and if it doesn’t, I’ll let my employees join the “gov’t” option instead of providing them with quality, private insurance and if I’m going to feel the “pain” why isn’t aren’t the unions willing to help foot the bill. I’d like to provide my employees with the “cadillac” insurance that the unions get, but I can’t afford it. So let’s let the union and it’s represenatives pay their “fair” share too. We all agree that something needs to be done, but this legislation is not the something. It is the largest tax increase on the american people that we will ever witness, it will add to the deficit (considering taxes will begin immediately, but coverage waits until 2014), it will not create jobs, companies will pass the costs onto the consumers and it will not create better healtcare for all. It may provide healthcare for some, but it will not be the quality care we are accustomed too. Start over. We can do better.

No one realistically thinks that Brown can win in a state like Massachusetts where the kool aid is served every day and they hate republicans more than they hate al quaeda…but maybe the democrats and their mob mentality understand that many americans (yes blue ones) don’t like the path they are taking us on
Posted by: phillysmart | January 13, 2010, 10:08 am 10:08 am
“George P.” refers to George P. Bush, 33, the elder son of Dub’s brother, insanely popular Florida ex-guv Jeb Bush.

Posted by: phillysmart | January 13, 2010, 10:09 am 10:09 am
Yeah Bob, by all means, let’s pass a bill just for the sake of passing a bill. Never mind that the present legislation is a monstrosity that will cripple this economy for decades, that will take health decisions away from doctors and patients and put them in the lap of yet another DC moron. Let’s ruin the coverage for 84% of Americans in order to cover an additional 10%. Are there problems with insurance companies? Sure, but instead of depending on Washington DC to find solutions, how about we try letting the marketplace fix this, empower consumers to demand quality and give them the ability to take their business elsewhere if they are not satisfied. This mindset that Washington is a viable solution to ANY problem has got to change, history tells us repeatedly that when the federal government becomes involved, things get bad in a hurry. This will certainly be no exception, and will probably instead prove to be the most egregious example yet of complete and utter failure on the part of government to make anything better. If the DC legislators truly wanted to improve the current system, they would get the hell out the way.

As this being a Kennedy Seat, reserved for Democrats only ,as was said earlier, Ms Coakley, after Tuesday, this will be the “Change” you can leave in.
A balance of power is needed to keep reckless government spending and programs in check and to restore fiscal responsibility to the Commonwealth and the US Senate.
Posted by: ColeNC | January 13, 2010, 10:13 am 10:13 am
I had a look at the doners from the other night for Ms Coakley. It was a whos who of drug companies and health insurance companies.
In this case it’s the Dems in bed with the big bad drug and insurance compaines.
Health Care Reform = Higher Taxes and Higher health Care Costs, with longer waits to see doctors.
A voter for her will give you just that

Dufus, you’re delusional. Every poll demonstrates conclusively that the people DO NOT WANT this Marxist monstrosity. Why the he11 do you think Democrats lost the NJ governorship, the Republican won the VA governorship by a record margin, and Scott Brown is in a dead heat with Martha Coakley?
The arrogant, reckless, out of control left is ramming a perverted, anti-American Marxist agenda down the throats of a public that wants nothing to do with it. THAT’S why they are going to be wiped out in November.

Here’s something that bothers me about the healthcare bill as currently constructed–If we’re going to be taxed for 3-4 years before the healthcare system is implemented, do we really expect Congress to keep their hands out of that growing pot of unused funds? Isn’t that part of the reason Social Security is on the verge of collapse–Congress, over the years, has kept helping themselves to the money being put into it to fund their other programs and projects?

The big mistake everyone is making is assuming this is actually about fixing healthcare. it is not, it is about gaining control. the obama government wants control over every aspect of your life, that is right out of the saul alinsky handbook. if you watch something other than the liberal media, you learn that medicare and medicaid are already essentially bankrupt, now we want to add millions to the roles of already defunct programs. this can only lead to rationing of care, which is exactly what they want. every credible source says this will ruin the nations economy and cause people already paying high insurance premiums to be forced into paying significantly more. how is that helping? we also hear from all the libs that the republicans are the party of no. in fact, they have offered many sensible options such as torte reform only to be completely shut out of the negotiations. they are then accused of offering nothing to the debate. the only problem is, the republicans have sensible ideas that would not include taking over our lives, so that will never fly in obamaland. i wish i could say i would gain some satisfaction in sitting back, watching this horror unfold, then saying i told you so, but unfortunately, i cannot take pleasure in the wholesale destruction of this country. this is too sad for words.

This race could really be over. Have you seen the video of Michael Meehan, who is the media consultant sent by the DSCC to help Coakley manager her image, pushing to the ground and further holding up a reporter from the Weekly Standard who was trying to ask Coakley a question last night outside her fund raising dinner?

Funny to see republicans panic that Brown, if he wins in MA. wont be seated right away. On the contrary, wouldnt it just be like the democrats to stop the potential bloodbath next november by sabotaging their own horrendously unpopular bill? Don’t you think they can smell death at this point? Voters are mad. This is the people’s chance to show congress who is really in charge because the politicians not only don’t get it, they are running over independents who graciously gave them the benefit of the doubt and a chance to redeem themselves. What do they do with it except to presume that they own the country. Liberal democrats mistook the anger over republican failures as a license to convert the country to socialism. We like our freedom. I hope the democrats keep cheating their hearts out and prevent Brown from voting to stop this bill. Americans, they will find, are not as stupid as they seem to think.

WOW what a favor the Democrats are doing for the country. I thought that all men were created equal. I guess if your a union member your more privillaged then me. Whats with that? Why are the unions exempt and the everyday Joe isn’t. It seems Obama has spent a year and a trillion dollars of our money creating payoffs for those that voted for him. Your a reporter and we have to point this out to you? Hey Bob if you can’t write a truthful non biased article your not much of a journalist, your a political hack that will find your self in the same pool of sharks as the rest of us.The only difference between us and you is when that happens it is doubtful anyone would pay a dime to read anything written by those who lie to protect a political party that doesn’t even know your name. You do realize they don’t care about you either. Bob do yourself a favor send a few bucks to Scott Brown. It is nice to have Wingnuts admit that their main objective is making President Obama fail. ODS (Obama Derangement Syndrome) continues.
Be careful of what you wish for. News Flash! Supporters of the President would be glad to see the conservaDems like Lincoln in AR be defeated either way. With that the burden of ineffective 60-vote majority in the Senate will be taken off. If we have 57 Dems in the Senate, people like Liberman or Nelson would not have as much sway. And the process of Reconciliation (needing only 51 votes in Senate) will be used to open up Medicare or create the Public Option in a single bill.

Obama’s healthcare reform can be descibe as this:
Before any candidate wins the presidential election, the have already defined for themselves what their legacy will or should be.
Reagan: Wins the Cold War
George Bush Sr: Desert Storm: National Security
Clinton: Economy
George W. Bush: National Security
Barrack H. Obama: President Obama knows that his only possible legacy will be Healthcare Reform (in any form is acceptable to him). He has nothing else to lay a successful claim to. He has already been a disaster on national security..he’s a failure on the economy..so guess what’s left?…yep, Healthcare Reform.
He is rushing this through now, because he knows it’s pretty much a guarantee that the Dems will lose their majority status this November. He will be a one term president.

It’s NOT healthcare reform, it’s just an extension of coverage. It does nothing to curb costs. Look at the COB’s track record for estimating costs. There’s no way it’s going to be budget nuetral.

I love the way Dems call this healthcare debacle reform and then accuse any sane person who opposes it of being against “reform”. One generally associates reform with improvement. The Democrats proposals for healthcare “reform”, if enacted, will be a travesty. God help this country.

But we know the lobbyists took a break long enough to raise money for Martha Coakley who found it more urgent to attend a DC fundraiser with them than shake hands with dirty smelly voters in her state.

The Dems have made the same mistakes the Reps made when they controlled the Whitehouse Senate and Congress. Arrogance of power! Except the Dems have imploded in record time. If all of their gaffs, screw-ups and just plain stupid mistakes made within the past year were listed, several pages would be filled. Boston is the original city of the tea party, I would imagine those folks have just about had enough from a party that just plain takes their political affiliations and votes for granted. If this race is even close, one can only imagine what effects this will have on the remainder of the country. If the Dems somehow manage to loose this race then the end is near, unless of cours the Reps repeat their same mistakes, which is quite possible.

What I find interesting is that the MSM doesn’t even seem to realize that by calling the legislation a “health care reform bill,” they are showing a pro-Democrat bias. Reform has a positive connotation, implying it is a good thing. How often did they use that term when refering to legislation pushed by Republicans? Not very often. Was the Patriot Act a bill to “reform” our national security posture? I don’t think so. Did the tax cuts “reform” our tax structure? Not if you listen to the MSM. The only “reform” comes from Democrats, yet the MSM persist in claiming they are not biased. That’s why I call them the Strong Left-Inclined Media Elite (SLIME).

If Brown wins and if the Dems dont change the rules again. If he can vote against the Healthcare bill and effectively kills it. There will be a surge in the economy. No one will expand their businesses while there is so much uncertainty about what the consequences of the left wing agenda is, including cap and tax. (I am a small business owner and I am NOT hiring anyone till I know the costs of those new hires) Browns election would signal the outcome of next years elections and would give business people the confidence that the nightmare of drift toward socialism is over. The best thing that can happen for Obama is an end to Dem congress. Divided government works it is a good check and balance and ensures only those things the people actually want gets passed. Dems did the classic over reach and it may well have relegated them to minority party status for decades to come. They got greedy and moved too fast, the fact that this is even a race proves that. The best thing that has ever happened for Republicans has been the unmasked left wing.

I love the above statement to open the article. Basically this guy is saying that Coakley has already won BUT the Republicans may have won in some sort of “moral victory” sort of way.
If the people of Massachusettes (right, Coakley?) are so blind as to only vote dem and that anyone with a parenthetic R next to their name is the devil, then you are already lost. Hell, don’t you already have some sort of statewide insurance mandate or healthcare plan there now that is driving you deep into the red ink while doing nothing to improve healthcare? I figure that alone would drive you away from the dems – at least for the time being.

Look who is raising money this week for the Democrat Coakley running for Ted Kennedy’s old seat in Mass!
–As first reported by Timothy Carney of the Washington Examiner, the host committee for the fundraiser at Pennsylvania Avenue’s Sonoma Restaurant includes lobbyists for Pfizer, Merck, Eli Lilly, Novartis and sundry other drug companies that have been among the biggest of ObamaCare’s corporate sponsors. Other hosts—who have raised at least $10,000 for Ms. Coakley—include representatives from UnitedHealthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana and other insurers. As far as we can tell, the insurance industry claims to oppose ObamaCare’s current incarnation.
Naturally, lobbyists from America’s Health Insurance Plans and Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, the major trade groups, were on hand too. Money follows power in Washington, obviously, though this example seems especially inexplicable given that Ms. Coakley’s GOP opponent, state senator Scott Brown, may be the last chance to defuse the health-care doomsday machine. But maybe someone in the press corps will bother to mention this episode the next time President Obama takes aim at the “special interests” he claims are opposing his agenda.–

If this is so important, why are other states not just doing it themselves instead of forcing me to pay for their lack of state action? After all according to the Democratic machine hype it is an emergency and “The most important” issue ever?
There are more independent voters than republican and dems combined in Massachusetts. I am making my own phone calls to disenchanted democrats in Massachusetts that I know to go on Tuesday and Cast their votes for Scott!

Should the healthcare bill in its current version be stopped/killed/defeated? Yep! Is there a new wind blowing towards Conservatism? Yep! No one is disputing that ACCESS to healthcare needs to be improved (people without insurance who cannot afford care), but this bill will destroy our country, plain and simple. People WILL die waiting for life-saving treatments. That’s a given. We cannot take the best medical care in the world and govern it via bureaucracy. We cannot socialize medicine. Whatever happens, all members of the three branches of government should be forced to accept whatever they force on the American people. America is not a kingdom, it is a democratic republic, members of the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government are not royalty and do not deserve better care than what any other American citizen gets. That’s the arrogance of the Democratic party. Go Scott Brown!

Brian, what a typical bunch of liberal non-sense. So taking 94% of what someone earns is ok with you? I assume of course you give 94% of your salary(if you have one) to the government as you think everyone should. 94% is confiscation not taxation.
I have an idea, why don’t we just have both socialism and capitalism. You get a form and check a box for which form of system you want to live under? We have a flat tax for the federal government to provide the very basics, National defense, foreign affairs and national infrastructure and government. Nothing goes out to anyone, no tax breaks, no loopholes and no welfare. All capitalists get their regular paychecks less the flat tax. All socialists have their paychecks diverted to a central bank when it is then divided up according to the Marx ideal. “From each according to his ability to each according to his need” . We still have elections for government and Socialists have special elections for their board of supervisors and organizers. Capitalists with no need for bureaucrats to help them with their decisions use their money the way they see fit. You can only choose every 10 years which system you want to live under. If you choose Socialist from then on any inventions, patents and intellectual property (that includes all music, movies and any creative works) are owned by the central authority and are the sole beneficiaries of income and royalties. Capitalists own everything they create.

Could we possibly be seeing the good citizens of Massachusetts working up to once again start throwing tea overboard?
C’mon, guys.
The rest of us are depending on you to get the ball rolling again.
A bit of 1776 is the cure for too much 1984. Our imperial Federal government threatens us all. It’s time for Americans to consider all of our political options, including the ones enshrined in our Declaration of Independence, and backed up by our Bill of Rights, particularly the 1st, 2nd and 10th Amendments. Quoting a savvy Massachusetts politician, “Those who make peaceful change impossible make violent revolution inevitable.” That was JFK, a man who would be unhappily astonished could he but see the current state of both his political party and the nation.
And the Reps are just as much at fault. Both parties are tools of the banksters, both parties are deeply complicit in the ongoing pillage of Americans’ liberties and property.
Throw the bastards out, every damn one of them, and start over. Do not reelect any incumbent in 2010.
This could be our last shot at that peaceful change.

First, the HCR reform bill will be a total disaster if it’s reconciled and passed. It has a lot of bad stuff and almost nothing good. How about that promise for no public funds to abortion? Gone. No funding to illegals? Gone. (No verification enforcement means funding provided. Besides, the liberals intend to provide amnesty for all of them anyway.)
*Effective* reform would allow insurance companies to offer coverage nationwide, instead of state-by-state. That would make for HUGE savings. Also, serious tort reform would drive costs down. But the liberals are totally in bed with the trial lawyers.
As for the election itself, if it is very close, it will almost certainly go to Coakley. Just like with MN and Franken v. Coleman, MA controls every important office related to elections, and the judiciary is extremely liberal as well. All rulings will automatically go Coakley’s way. And let’s not forget about ACORN and dead voters casting multiple votes, etc.
And if by some miracle that Brown actually won, appeals and more appeals will be used to delay seating Brown in the Senate, so he can’t provide that 41st vote.
It’s so rigged, it’s sick.

You’re right, Bob. Real reform would be to take health care coverage away from employers and put it in the hands of individuals. However, nobody wants that change any more than they want it put in the hands of the bureaucracy. Like they said in ’93, that issue is just too big for DC to deal with. I hope Obamacare dies a quick death and that individual states institute health care plans on their own. This would be much more manageable.

Hey Bob, if the health Bill is so great for Americans and will make things so much better for everyone. Then my only question would be this, Why has the House and Senate both exempted themselves from the Bill? If it good enough for all of us, isn’t it good enough for them as well?

Robx— I only used the 94% figure as history not as to my position on it — Though I do believe giving tax breaks to the risch during Wartime is stupid and irresponsible–As far as the Flat tax — I would pray they would do it — Income tax is unfair– Currently only 43% of our Citizens pay any tax at all– 57% pay nothing being either too poor or too rich to pay!! Through loopholes many off shore adding to the Countries revenue dearth!! I would rather a 10% tax on all Imports and Commodities paid on the wholesale level– And I’m not a Lib!!!

“And the process of Reconciliation (needing only 51 votes in Senate) will be used to open up Medicare or create the Public Option in a single bill.”
Could we please get you liberal nuts to stop with the reconcilliation nonsense? You have nop idea what you are talking about, which is probably why you are a clueless liberal. Recon can ONLY be used on budgetary items. The bill would be riddled with holes, anything that had nothing to do with budget ie. public option, mandating medical boards (death panels) to say who gets what and when….would be stripped. The GOP would have preferred the nuclear option. The bill would have been torn to shreds and each item voted on individually, due to the procedure of objecting to each point, the GOP could have dragged it out for months. This would have allowed everyone to see all the bribes, special interest payoffs and sweetheart deals that these corrupt Dums have in this monster. If we got lucky during that lengthy process we would make it too the 2010 elections and it would be over. The GOP could start what they have proposed, small single topic bills in series. Not a 2500 page mess that one one has read, let alone understands. You loony libs really amaze me. Here’s hoping the whole thing falls apart due to Dem infighting, a Mass. GOP win or a Dem Senator missing the final vote for whatever reason it takes.

I have to question the poll cited in the article, it was one of many and in real terms it was the largest outlier in the set. The issue here is still the fact that the Media selects data to fit their needs. If the argument is made by taken all polls and removing the extreme outliers we see that it is too close to call race. The fact that the state is not being represented by the congress in these matters, it will cause higher taxes and then of follow on a lost of jobs in the state. The idea that the state Dem’s leaders are trying to arrange the results so that a Dem is in place for the vote on health care is a clear and concrete example of failing the public trust.

I don’t care who runs against an incumbent, whether Democrat, Republican or Independent. All I know is whoever is in there now, needs to be gone because: 1) he or she has not been sufficiently vocal in exposing corruption, and 2) has not adequately represented the interests of the people who elected him or her to office.

Let’s see…. if the conservatives are represented by the Tea Party… that must mean the democrats are the tories? After all, the tories supported the King (aka OBAMA) and big Government… seems fitting. Where the author, and the media in general miss the point regarding the Mass race, or this past November’s races, or the Tea Parties, etc, is that these developments are not about the resurgence of the Republican Party so much as they are a rejection of the policies proposed by this Admin and this Congress by a growing majority of Americans (including many independents and moderate Dems).

This is wonderful! And a sure sign of
what’s to come in November.
After we take back what’s rightfully
ours (i.e., The People’s, not the
Kennedy’s or Obama’s), we must begin:
1) Impeachment proceedings against
Obama (Where’s the birth
certificate?);
2) Criminal trials against Obama
and his wife for treason based
on the above(taking over the
government by fraud);
3) ‘McCarthy-like’ hearings against
the Democruds, starting with
Pelosi, Reid, Waxman, Frank,
Schumer, Levin, Leahy, Franken,
Durbin, Waters, Conyers, Specter,
Nelson, Landreau, Grayson,
Jackson-Lee, Jesse Jackson, Al
Sharpton, Kerry, Gore, and Blanche
Lincoln, followed by criminal
proceedings against all of them.

MSM thinks Brown will not win. Keep thinking that way. All the pieces are falling in place, Coakley is making all the wrong moves, and Scott Brown is staying on the high road.
There is incredible energy and momentum in the Scott Brown campaign. I will be personally helping out through the long weekend. At this point it is a toss up, with EVERYTHING trending Scott Brown’s way. Mark my words – Scott Brown will win this January 19 by 2-5 points.
The Dems have absolutely no energy for Coakley who is dry, smug, and arrogant in her coronation quest for “Ted Kennedy’s seat.” Her lying attack ads are not inspiring either.

_____________________________
While I respect Rick Klein’s take that even a less-than-overwhelming Democrat win will be seen as a bad omen for them, statements like the above still show an entrenched reluctance to acknowedge what is a very real possibility now, in Massachusetts: a Scott Brown victory. While it’s true that no one knows ultimately what’s going to happen, all things considered it’s a wee bit brash, making statements like the above. If Brown wins (which is not getting any less likely as the final days tick away), such statements only make those who uttered them look even worse. The safest thing to do — for BOTH sides — is avoid predictions of any sort, here.

I will add this: the more the Democratic Establishment (a redundant phrase) rushes to the aid of Coakley and puts down Brown, the more voters will be attracted to Brown. Barring some last-minute revelation that would actually damage Brown (and even THAT would be seen as a Democrat dirty trick, because it’s so predictable), there’s really little that Democrats can do other than make sure their voters turn out in the numbers needed, this coming Tuesday. Of course that’s assuming enough people want Coakley enough to vote for her…

“The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to doctrinaire and academic thinkers.
Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can “throw the rascals out” at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy.”

You’re chattering about irrelevancy, and grasping at straws, here.
Your party is struggling to hold onto Teddy Kennedy’s seat, in one of the most blue states of the union — and the other side has already won a psycological victory, just taking it THIS far. That’s what this whole article is even about.
And all you do is waste your time Bush-bashing over the war and chattering away about matters like this? Talk about desperate.

Nice try at a come-back, New Wave…you even copied my approach about flailing away at something that will not affect an election (with your own spin on it), before trying to turn it back on us. One slight difference: Obama IS a drag on the Democrats, right now (just like what his party’s been doing in the Congress is, too)…you then conclude by making another brash prediction (that Obama will be re-elected), the kind of thing I’ve already warned both sides is risky.
btw who’s the ‘we’ in ‘we all know?’ What, all 21% of you, who Gallup says identifies themselves as liberal? Well if so then the other SEVENTY-NINE percent of us are turning against your party…including Bush-critics and independents, like myself.

Think about whats going on right now concerning the HCR bill. The Dems have enough votes in both the House and Senate to pass it and yet they are having a hard time doing so. Why? Because many of them are independent thinkers from diverse states and find that the bill has many problems. But then the Big Dems step in and bribe the more independent Dems to vote for it and receive personal state goodies that are an anathema to all Americans. Our gov. does not run on bribes to individual people to make laws. It is supposed to run on the COMMON good for all America. To think that the cradle of liberty is now controled by these swine is sickening.

Scott Brown is good high quality candidate and in a state where they had their heads screwed on properly, he would have no difficulty over Coakley who is a very weak uninspiring appointee.
Without machine politics, Brown would win hands down. I think it is highly insulting to the citizens of Mass that they call this senate seat “kennedy’s seat” It is indeed the people’s seat and perhaps the people will rise and send a loud and clear message about 2010.

As regards the topic of ‘solvong real problems’, I have not seen any solution to our problems from the GOP. For them is now a matter of being against whatever President Obama wants to do even if it will benefit the people. GOPers can’t even use the term ‘middle-class’.

But they use the euphemism of “choice.” Right…but what about the rights of the unborn women they are killing? Or the unborn men, not that Democrats care about men? What of the fact that abortion kills a higher percentage of black babies than blacks as a percentage of the population? Is that not racism in its cruelest form? Coakley is letting special interests(with lots of money) run her campaign in hopes the tides will turn in her favor. Obama promised to regin in the special intersts, but apparently only when they’re not useful to him.
Let’s make a statement loud and clear all the way to Washington, VOTE SCOTT BROWN!

Scott Brown raised over 2 million dollars in 2 days- the money was raised from donations by the people of Massachusetts.
Martha Coakley was in Washington DC last night raising money- the money came from the DC elite.
Who do you think Scott Brown will be of service if he wins, and who do you think Martha will of service to if she wins?????

This is a perfect example of why term limits are needed. Mass. voters kept Teddy in office all those years because of his seniority. Now that that is gone with his passing, it appears that the Conservative candidate has a chance to win.

I am fascinated by the thought that my vote for Scott Brown could change the health care debate and that I might stand a chance of not having Obamacare rammed down my throat.

As regards the topic of ‘solvong real problems’, I have not seen any solution to our problems from the GOP. For them is now a matter of being against whatever President Obama wants to do even if it will benefit the people. GOPers can’t even use the term ‘middle-class’.
How else can you explain GOP congress members now taking credit for stimulus-funded projects in their districts? Even Gov. Jindal is having photo-ops with stimulus checks after addressing the nation against the stimulus bill.”
____________________________
I’ll agree with you there, New Wave — the GOP has not exactly been offering solutions as a whole. But the thing is, the country has been seeing for nearly a full year now what kind of ‘solutions’ Obama HAS been offering (and his party, really, since ’06 when they gained control of the Congress)…and the country doesn’t like it; the Dems have been flying directly in peoples’ faces for some time now, particularly with this health care thing (not to mention being totally unresponsive to the peoples’ opinions…and even further attacking and name-calling them, for not agreeing with the Dem agenda) — and that’s no way to endear yourself to the populace you need, to stay in power. Hence, you have the GOP pulling ahead almost everywhere nationally (including very possibly in MASSACHUSETTS, of all places)…simply because they’re NOT the Democrats.
As for Gov. Jindal, nothing against him personally but I really don’t care much for him, politically.

So we now expect that problems accumulated over more than 8 years be fixed in 1 year?
That’s excactly the root cause, we have got used to politicians proposing policies that would suit the election cycle (2 years) instead of policies that would have a lasting positive effect no matter how initially unpopular they are.

If the Republicans take back the House and Senate, they better actually DO something besides fighting Obama. All they have done for the past year is obstruct. If they win a majority, what will they do legislatively? What’s the plan? I don’t see any. The Republicans haven’t been held accountable for results for at least 10 years running, but they will have to produce if they win big. I wouldn’t make any bets on that score for a long time.

Well, your diagnosis (the ‘root cause’ statement) is dead-on correct. I would submit, however, that the cause of the nation’s collective ills rests on a lot more than just the past 8 years (meaning, of course, GWB); the whole political system is corrupt, and while the people as a whole thus far have not embraced full revolution (which is about the only ultimate solution to that system, at this point), the pendulum IS currently following the more usual pattern, when people don’t like what’s happening currently: they’re embracing the other party, in this case chiefly because they’re not the one in power.
In the case of this health care stuff, people don’t want that simply because it’s BAD. Not much more to it than that…and further they don’t like being ignored by the party in power, and even worse name-called, sneered at, and impugned for doing so. People wanted change in November of 08, but they clearly didn’t want the USA made over into the USSA…a socialist state. The Dems have been a big disappointment to the voters, to say the very least — hence, Obama’s plunging approval numbers, virtually ANY poll on his policies, and a Repub with a serious shot at Ted Kennedy’s old seat (in the bluest of states), to boot.

If you are referring to the health care bill, it may have a lasting effect, but nothing about it is positive. It is nothing more than a bribe laden monstrosity. It does absolutely nothing to lower the costs of healthcare. This is why people are getting up off the couch and letting their voices be heard. The working class has all tightened our belts, but these yaps spend like there is no tomorrow. The only jobs that have been “created” are government jobs. They don’t pay for themselves, WE pay them. Government employees received raises this year. IT’S OUR MONEY STUPID! Check out how many Congressmen went to Copenhagen on our dime. Tally right now is around 101. THIS NEEDS TO STOP!!!

Had it not been for BIGGGGGGGG BIGGGGGGGG GOVT. DEFICIT SPENDING —– and FDIC raising of account limits — the run on the banks would have left the country at breadlines — So much for the less Govt. GOP mantra lie —- That Philosophy gave us Bernie Madoff’s and Worthless Credit Default Swaps— If you believe the GOP are interested in Smaller Govt. I have a bridge in Brooklyn i’d like to sell you!!! The only Govt. they are interested in is one with them in charge — be it Big or Bigger!!!! Look– both the GOP and the Dems are spendocrats — The difference being, The GOP love to spend on War and nation building – and the Dems love to spend on Domestic Social Programs — I’d rather see a trillion spent on healthcare here, rather than watching the GOP and their Corporate Defense conglomorates waste trillions in wars for Corporate profit!!! The rest of us are all counting on you to revolutionize this country as your forbears did when they threw tea into Boston harbor a few hundred years ago.
Will you have the courage to think as individuals instead of a big Democratic voting bloc? If elected, Scott Brown will be your representative in halting the destruction of the United States of America that our Founding Fathers so generously gifted us in their sacrifices.
If you can see beyond the label “Republican”, please vote Scott in…so we can preserve our country! You may vote for whomever you want in a few years after he has had a chance to do what he promises….for Massachusetts and the rest of the country. But please, please, please…we need Scott Brown now!

I also love how he has send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan and not 1 democrat has been critical of this move…by the way he is following the Bush doctrine on the war on terror and he campaigned against this.
All the Obama voters are rubes and drank the coolaid look at your paychecks starting this february when the bush tax cuts expire and you take home 10-17% less depending on how much you make…That you can blame the Democrats for not the Republicans
LOL 2010 is the year we take back our country thank god some people have come to their senses except the unions of course but the democrats claim they dont have special interest groups but we all know the unions are the biggest and this healthcare bill they want to pass will ultimately effect union healthcare coverage in a negative way but they remain silent LOL what a bunch of hypocrits you get what you deserve and voted for.

The CA budget is roughly $100B. The CA government spending on pensions is about $3B. That’s 3%m not 25%.
See: http://www.ebudget.ca.gov/BudgetSummary/BSS/BSS.html
You also seem very confused or mislead about Reid and Pelosi on what you call ”
“Medicare Supplemental”.
Medicare Supplemental includes private insurance (mine is BCBS) that picks up where Medicare leaves off.
Bush and the GOP Passed the Medicare Prescription Program, Medicare D. It is also part of supplemental coverage. They also passed it without planning how to pay for it: note that Bush ran up more deficits than ALL of the Presidents before him put together.
Reid and Pelosi are NOT trying to do away with it – they are trying to save it and make it cost less for Seniors.
But, if health costs keep soaring the way they are NOW, it will be impossible for the government to fund Medicare and Prescription coverage at any decent level.

Wake up people & get rid of corruption-
This “Ted’s Seat is CRAP-this SEAT BELONGS TO THE HONEST VOTING PEOPLE OF MASSACHUSETTS….NOT THOSE WHO GROVELLED
AT THE KENNEDY’S FEET. WISE UP

btw: Hope Obama doesn’t have his “Black
Panters” standing outside the voting booths intimidating those who arrive.
Of course, they wouldn’t be charged IF they did show up, but don’t worry they aren’t going inside the booth with you.
If the Crooked Dems can’t ‘stuff the box
like they did with the miraculous votes
that kept showing up for Al Franken in Mi, I’m sure they’ll try another route-
After all, Obama hasn’t passed around all that “Stimulus” money to Acorn or Seiu for Nothing now, has he?
Again, Wise up Voters, and rid our great
country of these “Corrupt Demn Pigs That Have
Fed at the Taxpaying Public Tough For Far TOO LONG”

I think we should all just be grateful that the drunken bimbokiller Teddy remains shovel-ready and probably can’t steal from the Normal-American Community anymore.
Why, just last week he set a new record for consecutive days of sobriety!

As a staunch conservative, even I am aghast that Coakley will likely occupy Ted Kennedy’s seat. What is humorous is that even with changing any/every law that suits their cause, the main stream media in their pockets…the dems/libs still cannot accomplish ANYTHING!!!

Wow. What a radical leftist puff piece. The Senate seat up for grabs is not “Kennedy’s seat”. It belongs to the people. Even moderate democrats and independents are angry with new radical leftist socialism being unilaterally imposed… what part of that doesn’t the democrat party and the press get? Where is the “big tent” that used to be the Democratic party? Middle of the road folks are kicked to the side in favor of racial and class warfare politics. That doesn’t even set well with the “liberal” voters of Massachusetts… someone needs to see that signal or widespread defeat will come to even the middle of the road democrats who go along with this radical elitist game in D.C.

I guess Rick Klein has to be reminded that it is not the ‘Kennedy’s seat’. It’s the people’s seat.

Bob – You are absolutely WRONG! The Republicans DO want the healthcare systems changed…just NOT THIS WAY! This is wrong for EVERYONE except the big companies involved! There have been deals made behind closed doors that the American people are going to have to PAY for and if you think healthcare is expensive now, just wait!!!

The left hates us…so much so, they’re in denial.
Deny that the tea party is bigger than astroturf.
Deny that a majority of Americans disapprove of the current healthcare bill.
Deny that Americans are waking up to Al Gore’s polar bear warming scam.
Deny it until you lose elections…then you still will, somehow.

Oh by the Way Martha….Bush/Cheney cant run due to term limits on running for president and Obama is the president now I think the blame Bush message which is all the Democrats ran on in 2008 is getting old and the Independents and Moderate Democrats see through the excuses and are running far away as they can from the Liberal wing of your party..remember all you Obama lovers the Independent Vote is what put Obama in the office he wont get it in 2012…Its Carter part II One and Done!!!

Remember, Coakley has a lot going against her. She was such a do-nothing Attorney General, that she failed to even investigate Chuck Turner & Diane Wilkerson, both caught on tape stuffing cash into their clothes, as well Sal DiMasi & Tom Finneran (now convicted), speakers of the State House up on felonies. The Feds had to go after these people since Coakley wold not even open investigations based on complaints, and people remember that.

A philosophy I’ve had for a long time is that, regardless of party, if one side has controlled a seat for too long, it’s time for a flip. I say, the less time you let them “own” the seat the better, flip it every couple years. At least it keeps the politcians from becoming complacent. If I lived in MA I would vote R just because it has been a D so long.

David Gergen, debate moderator for the Massachusetts senate race, was clearly trying to help Coakley and doing his best to make Scott Brown look bad. He failed because the people saw through his dishonesty. It shows just how vicious and despicable liberals really are. They will use any means available to demean, smear, and attack anyone who doesn’t agree with their socialist agenda.
I hope the voters in MA remind Gergen, Coakley, and the liberal elites that it is not Kennedy’s senate seat but it is the peoples’ senate seat

Here we go again! First it ‘s the Repubs. then it’s the Demos. It’s been less than a year. The economy is in the toliet, two wars, earth quakes, health care, etc. Well, How did wwe get here?
Think about that for a heart beat. Then vote for the party of no. then if that does not work, vote for the other party.
Make up your mind for the long haul. We gave the repubs 8 years and this is what we have reaped. CC send

I want to know why my union dues pay for expensive ads promoting Coakley.
My dues are close to two hundred a month and this is what I get?
Massachusetts is friggin corrupt.

I am stunned at the response “lets pass it cause we worked so hard on it”. Worked so hard doing what? Making deals with Nebrask so the rest of the states have to foot the bill. Mkaing deals with Pharmaceutical companies that we were promised he would not do. Insurance in the United States need massive improvements, but to pass a bill just to pass it is insane. Do you know what the definition of insanity is? “Doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result” I am an independant and I will vote against every one of our members of Congress who vote for this bill. Reform involvs a big house approach not the partisan border line baby polotics that the President, Reid and Pelosi have given us.
I want you to ask yourself moderate democrats does Reid and Pelosi really represent how you feel? If not Massive changes need to take place. I do not care what Party you belong to.

CC…you have a short memory the Democrats have had control of the Senate and The House since 2006 so its been 4 years of Democrats with a super majority
LOL I love it when people blame the minority party in power now the Democrats wont even let the Republicans in committee meetings on healthcare that is not what the founding fathers wanted the Democrats hate the Constitution because it restricts them from doing what they want without opposition but that is coming to an end in 2010 Believe that!!

CC.. I also would like to know why Obama who ran as a anti-war president is following the Big Bad Bush doctrine on the war on terror or as the lesbian secretary of homeland security says man mad disasters oops I must be one of the so called right wing extremists she warns the left about…I guess since I own a small business, pay taxes and vote I must be a home grown terrorist…Good bye Liberal Dems your time has come the chickens have come home to roost!!!

Our Medicare for this new year has just increased by $30 a month and for a couple on a fixed income making less than $50,000 a year, this hurts. I wonder how much more this government health care is going to increase if this bill passes. Remember people, Medicare is the present government healthcare that is being cut by billions. The cost to the elderly goes up and the care is cut. Nice!

The Dems are not too worried as they have vote fraud down to a science now which explains their absolute arrogance and indifference to the publics awareness of their very blatant and visible corruption. Watch for the new registration rules coming out before the 2010 elections which will assure them of permanant power. I guess the system really is broken and we are screwed.

What’s losing the race for Coakley is the complete sell out by the Obama administration and the democratic senate of progressive promises. Both left and right hate this NON REFORM health care bill. Obama continues to vote present and fail utterly to lead. Compromise of every principal does none of us any good. It’s going to be a bloodletting for Dems in 2010 if they don’t stop selling out Americans along with the republicans and start making some real changes that benefit Americans instead of their corporate contributors.

Why, of course. In the Conservative world, even when they lose, the win. It’s just like how even when they destroy the economy, they were actually helping it, but the poor people messed it up. Or so the story goes.
For Conservatives, there’s always someone to shift blame to, so they don’t have to acknowledge their mistakes in any profound way. The goal posts are constantly shifting.
In reality, if Brown loses, it says more about the Conservative hype machine, which previously reared its ugly head in N.Y. 23, than it does about some significant shift in the public mood.
I would find the fall-out from such elevated Conservative hopes to be a much more interesting study in failed political propaganda.
It’s one thing to want to win, it’s quite another thing to have actually done it.

Not next Tuesday’s Senate election itself, of course — few observers really think that’s winnable even now, no matter how toxic the environment for Democrats these days.
This just in:Scott Brown won 52-47 on January 19, 2010.
Eat it Rick Klein. You are just another pro Obama, MSM hack trying to game it.
Scott Brown won!!!!!!!!!!
