Harry Reid’s Top 13 Foot-in-Mouth Moments
ABC News' Z. Byron Wolf reports: Want more evidence of Harry Reid's foot-in-mouth problem… Here is a "Sticks and Stones" list compiled by Republicans (since, they say, words seem never to hurt him). Begin transmission: STICKS & STONES Harry Reid’s Record Of Petty Insults TOP 13 INSULTS FROM THE SENATE MAJORITY LEADER 1.”You Know, Joe, I Can't Stand John McCain.” (“Reid Shares Senate Ideas,” Las Vegas Review-Journal, 08/21/08) 2.On President George W. Bush: “I Think This Guy Is A Loser.” (Erin Neff, “Del Sol High School Appearance: Reid Calls Bush ‘A Loser,’” Las Vegas Review-Journal, 05/07/05) 3.On Justice Clarence Thomas: “An Embarrassment To The Supreme Court. I Think That His Opinions Are Poorly Written.” (NBC’s “Meet The Press,” 12/05/04) 4.On Former Majority Leader Bill Frist: “I’ve Never Seen Such Amateurish Leadership.” (Jon Frandsen, “Senate GOP To Counter Dems’ Filibusters With 30-Hour Talkathon,” USA Today, 11/10/03) 5.On General Peter Pace, Chairman Of The Joint Chiefs Of Staff: “Incompetent.” (John Bresnahan, “Reid Labels Military Leader ‘Incompetent,’” The Politico, 06/14/07) 6.On Alan Greenspan, Former Federal Reserve Board Chairman: “One Of The Biggest Political Hacks We Have In Washington.” (CNN’s “Inside Politics,” 03/03/05) 7.On A Member Of The Press: “Reid told one reporter she should ‘watch the [Senate] floor more often. … You might learn something.’ … Reid asked the reporter if she ‘spoke English.’ ‘Turn up your Miracle Ear,’ Reid added.” (“Reid Flares Over Media Coverage Of Energy Proposals,” FoxNews.com, 07/24/08) 8.On The Las Vegas Review Journal: “‘I hope you go out of business,’ Reid said to Review-Journal advertising director Bob Brown.” (“Obama’s Ex-Adviser Slips Off Reid’s Radar,” The Las Vegas Review-Journal, 9/7/09) 9.On His Republican Colleagues: President Bush’s “49 Puppets He Has Here In The Senate.” “Everyone within the sound of my voice should understand, if that comes to be, it can go to 16th and Pennsylvania Avenue because that is what President Bush–he is the man who is pulling the strings on the 49 puppets he has here in the Senate. That is too bad for the country.” (Sen. Reid, Congressional Record, Congressional Record, S.14731, 12/04/07) 10.On Capitol Hill Tourists: “You Can Always Tell When It Is Summertime Because You Can Smell The Visitors. The visitors stand out in the high humidity, heat, and they sweat. There is no place for them to go.” (Sen. Reid, Congressional Record, S.2956, 04/14/08) 11.On Anyone Opposing The Dem Healthcare Bill: “When This Country Belatedly Recognized The Wrongs Of Slavery, There Were Those Who Dug In Their Heels And Said: Slow Down.” “This is indeed historic, as I began my conversation today. I am not afraid to say it is. But instead of joining us on the right side of history, all Republicans can come up with is this: Slow down. Stop everything. Let's start over. If you think you have heard these same excuses before, you are right. When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said: Slow down. It is too early. Let's wait. Things aren't bad enough.” (Sen. Reid, Congressional Record, S.12564, 12/7/09) 12. SEN. REID: McCain An “Old” “Snake Oil” Salesman. “But John McCain has a vision too, which in fairness I must address. When doctors screen out the quack nostrums and phony remedies we call snake oil, they use two fundamental principles: the maxim ‘first, do no harm’ and the question ‘is it safe and effective?’ In Congress, as in medicine, when we are offered snake oil as a remedy for the nation’s energy ills … kindly old Doc McCain would like to sell it to you anyway.” (Sen. Reid, Remarks To The Democratic National Convention, 8/27/08) 13. Reid Held A Grudge Against GWU Law School For 42 Years. (Sen. Harry Reid, The Good Fight, 2008, p.135)

Sen. DeMint: GOP Race Could Go Until Convention
Obama Avoids Questions on Contraception Rule
I agree with Reid: Bush was a loser, John McCain is a snakeoil salesman, Republicans in Congress were Bush’s puppets, Justice Thomas is an embarrassment, Republicans are standing in the way of healthcare reform like some stood in the way of civil rights, journalists are irritating, teasing tourists is a state hobby in Maine, I’m starting to like Harry Reid!

I think he is talking about Obama? Reid and Polosi pull the puppet strings and Obama jumps. Reid and Polosi say this is the health bill like it or not and Obama jumps. Wish they would pull the center string! may wake the puppet up so he can see who is realy the president and vice president. reid and Polosi.

President Bush had 49 puppets in the Senate and somehow, nobody’s noticing that Mr. Obama has 60 of them now? But no, there couldn’t be a double standard of any kind… Surely not.

Reids comment not was racially anti-black but rather a criticism of whites. So Obamas light complexion will be more tolerable to WHITES..Yes? We all know whites are disturbed by dark skinned people. Not an insult to blacks but rather intolerant whites. Is there not a negro dialect? W’eve all heard it just as we have an Ozarks, Alabama, Brooklyn and many other dialects. Why is this a racial slur? Incredible how the media makes meat out of a meaningless, certainly no-ill will comment. Mr. Reed has absolutely nothing for which to apologize!

Reid has had a number of mini-strokes. That would help explain his inability to focus or behave well in public. It’s time for him to retire.

Harry Reid should remember the truth about who opposed the freeing of the slaves in the 1860′s. It was primarily the democrat land owners in the South. Also, what about Trent Lott in 2002, making a racially charged statement? He was forced to resign by the constituents of the senate. Why is it that Reid can say almost the same thing and it is just fine?? Seems as two faced as you can get! Oh, that’s right–he’s a democrat.

Paul everyone has forgotten what the Dermocratic party stood for. They where the slavery party. Practice of keeping all people down is still being done by the dems. To make a person dependent on government and gocernment telling them what to do and not do is the democratic way. To take from the poor to benifit ones self is the democratic party way. And to lie and place blame on others is the democratic proven way.

I am pretty tired to hear Mr. Reid offend everybody. Can anyone teach him politeness and respect?

I agree with everything Senator Reid is saying. People just can’t stand realness, it offends them. Everyone is always looking for sugar coating the truth. The truth just hurts doesn’t it?Mr. Reid keep shootin’ from the hip!

They forgot when Harry stated on the Senate Floor that “We can’t win the war in Iraq.” He is an angry bitter little man!

Dear Amy in Maine: and do the tourists smell, too? Or do you selectively take the parts you want?

“That’s what’s been lost this year … that whole sense of changing how Washington works,” Obama said in an interview with People magazine.

And just what is the problem with just about any of these things he said? I really don’t have a problem with the majority of them and don’t see why anyone would object to someone else telling the truth. This list was compiled, according to the article, by Republicans, but they never actually explain why most of them are objectionable.

To get a good idea of how the right wing “thinks,” if you allow me to use the term, witness how Terry and Jim Rod think that Bush’s puppet string pulling in anyway compares with what the Democrat leadership has had to go through to get approval of something that should have gone through years ago. Can anyone remember Bush having to water down to the point of irrelevancy any of his projects?
Then there are Paul and jim Rod again trying to claim that the Dixiecrats, who to a man switched to the Republican party, somehow personify the Democratic position on race relations. And to claim that the bankers on Wall St., the war profiteers and all the other people responsible for holding down the common people are Democrats??? It wasn’t the Democrats who argued that paying women lower salaries isn’t discrimination. It wasn’t the Democrats that argued that companies should be protected from the legal consequences of condoning rape by their employees. It wasn’t the Democrats that sent American jobs overseas and were responsible for the tremendous growth in the income gap between corporate plutocrats and the people actually doing the work. It wasn’t the Democrats who eliminated rules protecting the safety of workers. It wasn’t the Democrats who pushed through tax cuts for the rich and reduced services for the average person. It wasn’t the Democrats who put two wars and tax reductions on the nation’s credit card resulting in record deficits following a Democratic administration that had run up a surplus.
Their dishonesty is so characteristic of the right wing that it can’t be just misinformation. It has to be deliberate.
