In Gallup Poll, President Obama at All-Time Lows for Handling of Economy, Health Care

The latest Gallup Poll has President Obama experiencing some pretty harsh disapproval ratings among the American people on some key issues.

The president has 40% approval on the economy and 56% disapproval.

He has 37% approval on health care and 58% disapproval.

These are the lowest approval ratings on those two issues to date of his presidency, per Gallup.

The poll indicates Americans are giving President Obama better marks on the handling of terrorism today than a few weeks ago. It was 45%-47% approval to disapproval before Umar Farouq Abdulmuttalab’s failed Christmas Day terrorist attack; the January 8-10 poll indicated 49% approval compared to 46% disapproval. Either way, these are bad numbers for the president compared to May, when 55% of Americans registered approval of the president’s handling of terrorism.

The current Gallup Daily Tracking poll has the president overall with 50% approval, 42% disapproval.

If left leaning Gallup shows numbers like this, you can be assured that they are even worse. Healthcare will be his Waterloo.

For Gallup to show these numbers you can only imagine how bad they really are. Gallup usually swings way to the left in their numbers.

The State of the Union surely must be a reset button for Obama on domestic issues. He needs to convince Americans he is working to fix jobs, etc.

Posted by: matt | January 13, 2010, 7:53 am 7:53 am

Two things on this issue: (1) this downturn is obviously the direct result of the previous administration’s failed policies; it is Bush’s fault.
(2) There were things this President promised that have turned out to simply not be true. He promised a new order characterized by transparency and true bi partisanship. What we all heard was there would be a new spirit of decency in Washington under his watch. These are simply not the case.
When he came to us about the Stimulus plan and referenced that this was a big spending plan designed to stimulate the economy, save and create jobs and he literally crammed it down our throats without being able to hear what our representatives had to say about it or read it ourselves we all heard anything but a new order of decency in Washington.
Since then the new order of decency has been a distant promise from an earlier time when ideals could be couched in words like ‘the waters rising’ and ‘change we can believe in.’
Guess what? We may be peasants to this pseudo intellectual class of politician but we all know when we are told to “eat cake.”
(OK that was more than two things)

I can’t wait for 2012 when the Republican president can just say it was Obama’s fault that the US is in such a mess… quit passing blame and DO something that’s RIGHT for the American people. Now more $$ for wars??? What did he say during the campaign about healthcare discussions/debates, wars and spending??? lies, lies, lies… Can’t wait for 2012!

The Gallup shows that the President is not listening and does what he “thinks” is right. It looks like he is directly following the path of his predecessor on this matter. Should we then start calling him “George W. Obama”?

Posted by: H1N1Hysteria | January 13, 2010, 8:12 am 8:12 am

The more things “change” the more they stay the same. Obama is just another in a long line of individuals who promise much and deliver little. The change the majority of people want has nothing to do with expanding government and limiting of personal liberty.

If Bush is to blame then add Clinton to the list too. His administration pushed for a higher homeownership percentage especially for people who could not afford to do so.
Plus, the president cannot pass any law/legislation. He can propose them but it’s up to Congress to pass them. Put the blame where it really belongs……on Congress.

I am not surprised Obamas numbers are down. No president has been given a tougher job. Remember the idiot republican handed him an economy that was losing 700,000 jobs a month, a financial collapse not seen since the great depression and two wars. The economy is recovery and by the next elections we will be in good shape

The Dems hold all the levers of power in Washington. They have controlled the White House for one year, and both houses of Congress for THREE YEARS–including a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.
And they have a subservient press protecting them and cheering them on at every turn.
Yet, all the Libs can do is blame their massive failure of governing on Republicans, the press, and talk radio.

I have been independent voting for Democrats republicans and in some case 3rd Party Candidates through out my life.
Never have I felt more deceived or betrayed than I have by the Obama Administration. At least Bush was loyal to to the people that Bought err Brought him to the ball. Obama is attacking the middle class with his health care “Reform” He has betrayed the Gay and Lesbian population that worked so hard for him (this is particularly shameful in the armed forces) He has a treasury secretary that can or wouldn’t pay his taxes and we are surprised that his plans are failing. Obama continues to display a level hypocrisy in areas of race while holding a bigoted stance on gays and lesbians. At this point I hate to say it but I would take 4 more years of Bush rather than 1 more year of Obama.

The sad part is that Obama still has not woken up to the fact that independents like myself are not happy with his decisions. Most presidents realize that pandering to their base, in his case, the loony left, is not the way to go.
He is turning out to a very unpopular president, maybe he doesn’t care.

bush was handed a terrorist attact at the beginning of his admin, and just as the congress began to reverse the foolish lending laws. he/they fought and won to keep the terrorists from doing it again on the homeland.
obama etal now trying to socialize the country so everyone has to feel the pain, (not all of us were/are dumb enough to follow the govt or big corps- ever), by making law not just consequential to your actions, but also your in-action. i.e., get fined for not having health care.
this is a founded country of freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. now, is it up to the govt to dictate the limits of those or is it up to the people to decide the limits?

I disagree LA42, I don’t believe that Obama was a better choice than Bush. His lack of experience and his voting history were big concerns for me. His ideas and policies along with his associations with certain people, groups, and organizations were also a concern. Reading about his and Michelle’s personal and political lives, brought some disturbing things to light when I considered him as someone to vote for as President. As far as his ideas for healthcare reform, SCARY!! I agree reform is desperately needed, but not the way he wants to do it. Talk to someone who has experienced socialized medicine – it’s not as wonderful as some think. I believe Obama would love for America to become a “socialist” country and that is unthinkable to me. Many who voted for him are disappointed that he has done a 180 or lost his stance on his campaign promises – personally, I wasn’t surprised.

Really? Look who is raising money this week for the Democrat Coakley running for Ted Kennedy’s old seat in Mass!
–As first reported by Timothy Carney of the Washington Examiner, the host committee for the fundraiser at Pennsylvania Avenue’s Sonoma Restaurant includes lobbyists for Pfizer, Merck, Eli Lilly, Novartis and sundry other drug companies that have been among the biggest of ObamaCare’s corporate sponsors. Other hosts—who have raised at least $10,000 for Ms. Coakley—include representatives from UnitedHealthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana and other insurers. As far as we can tell, the insurance industry claims to oppose ObamaCare’s current incarnation.
Naturally, lobbyists from America’s Health Insurance Plans and Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, the major trade groups, were on hand too. Money follows power in Washington, obviously, though this example seems especially inexplicable given that Ms. Coakley’s GOP opponent, state senator Scott Brown, may be the last chance to defuse the health-care doomsday machine. But maybe someone in the press corps will bother to mention this episode the next time President Obama takes aim at the “special interests” he claims are opposing his agenda.–

The Whitehouse will now need to expand its media war to include Rasmussen, Gallup, and Quinnipiac—since, like Fox News–they are not “serious” polling organizations. LOL
—American voters are split 45 – 45 percent on whether Barack Obama’s first year in office is a success or failure and split 35 – 37 percent on whether the U.S. would be better off if John McCain had won the 2008 election, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released today. As he marks the first anniversary of his inauguration, President Obama’s approval has slipped slightly into an even 45 – 45 percent split for the first time.
By a 47 – 40 percent margin, INDEPENDENT voters rate Obama’s first year in office as mainly a FAILURE; 81 percent of Democrats say it’s a success and 75 percent of Republicans say it’s a failure. Men say FAILURE 50 – 40 percent, while women say success 49 – 40 percent. White voters say FAILURE 54 – 37 percent, while black voters say success 82 – 7 percent.—

Impeach Obama now! Our country cannot take another year of this Obama Socialism; he has to be removed from office so we can get our country moving again. Even Joe Biden in the book “Game Change” believes that Obama’s policies are crap and will destroy our country. Impeach Obama, he is a fraud. Also Obama’s corruption with the cover up of the Fort Hood shooting is a major corruption.

Not any time soon, dude.
—Congressional Democrats face “serious problems” in getting a healthcare reform bill to the president’s desk, according to a House panel chairman.
“We’ve got to get a bill that’s more compatible to the House,” Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) said Tuesday. “Forget all the other questions. Two-hundred-eighteen [votes] is the most important issue we are dealing with… We have serious problems on both sides of the Capitol. SERIOUS PROBLEMS.”
Rangel’s comments come a day after Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) said health reform is “HANGING BY A THREAD.”—

Obama’s problem seems to be that he compromises too much with the folks who will never vote for him but doesn’t deliver on his promises to the folks who did vote for him.
Mr. President, you best not forget who brought you to the dance. At this point, your debts to the voters are past due and owing.

I think it would be more beneficial, in debates such as the rager revolving around healthcare, to step back and look at what other options, besides subsidies and mandated gov’t approved/sponsored plans, might exist.
One of the most incredibly overlooked but also incredibly important reasons for healthcare costs continuing to rise outside of what inflation trends indicate they should rise at, is that you as a consumer are only allowed to purchase health insurance policies which are underwritten (i.e. funded and subrogated) in the state in which you reside as a legal and taxpaying resident. Simply, you don’t have much choice now in what healthcare packages you can choose (you can choose from all the providers in the state in which you reside, but not from a provider in the state next door; interstate commerce restrictions on health insurance, check it out, easy to Google). Imagine if, as a means to reforming healthcare such that costs are reduced, which would logically make it more accessible and affordable to many more currently uninsured Americans (that is the goal across party lines, whether any partisan ideologues want to fess to it or not), Congress simply enacted legislation whereby if Joe Smith in Arkansas wanted to buy an insurance policy underwritten in Virginia, he could do so. Think of the implications; that insurance company in Arkansas wants Joe’s money, so they are going to reduce his out of pocket expense, as well as his employer’s expense, to keep that policy. Insurance is a big business, if you don’t believe me, go back and look at the amount of money you and your employer, collectively, over the past 10 years have spent for insurance. Now subtract that figure from the amount the insurance company has paid out to your health care providers in return. There is a large delta of money there which the insurance company pockets, because it is a BUSINESS. If you forced them to become more price competitive (i.e. better management of resources, funds, rates, etc.) they are going to necessarily do it, because they still want to make money, not go out of business. If they weren’t price competitive, you and I (the consumers) could simply take our money elsewhere. It is almost like buying a car. Look for the best price and put the onus on the Seller to offer a fair deal; if one Seller can’t or won’t, take your spending power elsewhere. If you’ve ever bought a car, you know that the quickest way to get the dealer back at the table negotiating is to impress upon him that you’ll get up and take your money across the street to his competitor.
Instead, we are focusing on the government interjecting itself into the management of healthcare. Interesting that the administrative burden (i.e. the costs of overseeing a public option plan and the costs of certifying private insurance plans as acceptable) are never factored into the tally on overall pricetag/cost of the Senate or House plans. Ask any business man, and they’ll tell you that the final rates they set and charge are very much determined by indirect costs (Overhead, General and Administrative, etc.). As a consumer, you can see it when you go to the check out line in the grocery. You want a candy bar, you better fork out the 75 cents you owe the store. But where does that 75 cents go, and did the candy bar actually cost 75 cents to make? No, it didn’t. It cost 5 cents to make the candy bar, 10 cents to pay the employees who made and packaged it, 15 cents for the electricity to run the machines which make the candy bar/apply the packaging, another 15 cents for cost of fuel/delivery surchage to get it to the grocery, plus a 5 cent cost for the CEO of the company (that’s just how it works, folks, they are CEO’s for a reason, and it isn’t because they are dumb and don’t work hard). So there is the first 50 cents. Now it gets to the store, and the store adds 5 cents for employee wages, 10 cents for stuff like electricity for the store, etc. etc., and tacks on the final 10 cents for profit. Wahlah, your 75 cent candy bar.
Important point, maybe at the 7-eleven across the street, that same candy bar is 70 cents. All the cost buildup is the same, but 7-eleven only tacks on 5 cents for profit vice 10 at the grocery. Fundemental that the profit can decrease so that the final overall price to the consumer decreases, but all the costs have still be accounted for, etc.
Apply that same line of sound and factual economic thinking to healthcare. Realize that the cost you as the consumer ultimately pay is driven by an array of factors, and not simply ‘fat cats getting fatter’. Realize, further, that the government has a long standing history of fraud, waste, and abuse of your taxpayer money. Both parties are equally guilty, so finger pointing is unnecessary and unwarranted, really. They are all wealthy than you, and they don’t give a damn what you think once they get a grasp on the reigns of that position of power. They historically mismanage programs and there are myriad examples, yet we believe that this same entity is now fit to tightly manage your funds regarding healthcare, such that costs are controlled? It doesn’t make much sense if we go on historical performance and track record. Further, if they just nullified the interstate commerce restrictions such that you could have more choice (they are touting consumer choice as tantamount to this reform, in addition to cost savings and more access to coverage), it stands to reason that costs would in fact go down and therefore insurance would become more accessible, because the gov’t would have, at a much reduced burden administratively to them and to us (that administrative burden isn’t free, it costs money, as stated before), created a more competitive environment.
The bottom line here is, there are some facts which neither party can spin or distort and which pass the ‘sniff’ test and are engrained in us, or should be anyhow, over the course of our educational careers. Economic theory, in simpleton speak, states rules of supply and demand. If demand exceeds what is currently on the market, the supply must necessarily increase. Once the supply meets the demand, you find an equilibrium which is maintained through manipulation of factors, but nonetheless can be maintained with fair ease. How that relates to healthcare: There is a demand but the current supply isn’t meeting that demand. Since it isn’t, the supplier has the demandee by the stones in terms of price, and the reason the supplier has that type of power and leverage is because of interstate commerce restrictions. Take those restrictions out of the equation. Now the supply goes up dramatically because the demandee has access to new markets, which have always existed but weren’t allowed to be accessed. The supplier is now forced to be fair and reasonable in prices because the supplier now has much more competition and thereby inspiration to do so. Look at that as the equilibrium; by allowing citizens to shop all over the country for healthcare, the demand is being met by an adequate supply.

It’s not just Gallup…
From Quinnipiac 1/13/10:
“American voters are split 45 – 45 percent on whether Barack Obama’s first year in office is a success or failure and split 35 – 37 percent on whether the U.S. would be better off if John McCain had won the 2008 election, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released today. As he marks the first anniversary of his inauguration, President Obama’s approval has slipped slightly into an even 45 – 45 percent split for the first time. …
White voters say failure 54 – 37 percent, while black voters say success 82 – 7 percent.
Obama’s job approval is only slightly lower than his 46 – 43 percent rating in Quinnipiac University’s December 23 survey. But it continues a gradual but consistent downward move that began last summer when his approval rating was 59 – 31 percent positive June 4.”

Yep, feels like a “solid B+” to me. (/sarc)

The president has 40% approval on the economy and 56% disapproval.
He has 37% approval on health care and 58% disapproval.

AP Headline: “Obama concedes he hasn’t brought country together”
Wed Jan 13, 7:01 am ET
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama says he has not succeeded in bringing the country together, acknowledging an atmosphere of divisiveness that has washed away the lofty national feeling surrounding his inauguration a year ago.
“That’s what’s been lost this year … that whole sense of changing how Washington works,” Obama said in an interview with People magazine.
The president said his second-year agenda will be refocused on uniting the country around common values, “whether we’re Democrats or Republicans.”
“We all want work that’s satisfying, pays the bills and gives children a better future and security,” Obama said in the interview, which the magazine conducted with the president and his wife, Michelle Obama, at the White House last Friday.
>> (later in the interview…) <<
The president opted not to lower the grade he had given himself for his own performance in 2009 — a B-plus — in light of the intelligence and security failures that allowed a suspected terrorist to board a Detroit-bound plane with explosives in an effort to blow it up. "When you look at what we've done this year on national security, we performed at a very high level in as difficult an environment as you can imagine," he said.
_The president said he misses daily, spontaneous interactions while living in a bubble. He said the job is lonely in another way — the gravity of sending troops off to war or responding to an attempted terrorist attack. "That side of the loneliness of the job is what I signed up for and I actually think I'm pretty good at," he said.
===========
Does anyone really believe Obama would care about “unity” if his poll numbers were not tanking in an election year (as he works in secret with Pelosi and Reid on a disastrous bill the majority of Americans does not want – perhaps "unity" push begins AFTER he gets his healthcare bill)? Has there been a more divisive President (coupled with divisive Senate and House leaders) in recent memory? Post-partisan? Yeah, right!
His refusal to back off of his “B+ grade” in spite of plummeting poll numbers, multiple foreign policy debacles, double-digit unemployment, gaffes on a weekly basis, etc., etc., etc. illustrates his oversized arrogance and stubbornness. I’m beginning to think Carter was more competent.

“Yes we can,” and “Change.” Those slogans were what won him the election. No one knows this guys grades, his nationality, or his writings. He had no executive experience experience and his Chicago law firm boss said that Obama just never really did grasp the big picture of his cases. His only experiences were being a community organizer using Saul Alinsky’s book as a primer to do what he is now doing. And being a Chicago politician to learn the methodoligies for accomplishing his agenda. Sooooo, we did get change. the last line proves how useless polls are. people give obama 56% disapproval on the economy and 58% disapproval on health care (the two biggest issues his administration has taken on), yet 50% of the same people approve of his overall performance. that doesn’t even make any sense. what, exactly, are the areas by which his overall approval was pulled up to 50%?

Posted by: davidfrat21 | January 13, 2010, 12:34 pm 12:34 pm

What people don’t understand is that the economy and health care issue is not going to just “bounce” back after only 1 year. The economy cannot just get back to the way it was before in 12 months. It will take years for it to be better again. People can be really ignorant sometimes because they don’t see the whole story. This man has worked his a$$ off this year and yet nobody seems to care. It doesn’t matter whether it was Obama or McCain who became president neither one of them can just “fix” the economy. So people can say what they want but nobody is a miracle worker.

Since Martin Luther King day is coming up, I’d like to share a quote from Martin Luther King
“Ultimately a genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus, but a molder of consensus.
“On some positions, cowardice asks the question, is it expedient? And the expedience comes along ad asks the question – is it politic? Vanity asks the question is it popular? Conscience asks the question – is it right?..There comes a time when one must take the position that is neither safe nor politic nor popular, but he must do it because conscience tells him it is right.” (From the sermon “Remaining Awake through a Great Revolution.”)
So Obama is getting low scores for health care. Let’s look at the facts.
FACT: Our current dysfunctional health care system is the most expensive system in the world. It’s also the most inefficient.
FACT; According to a study by the Harvard University Medical School, 44,000 people die each year because of in adequate medical care. That’s a 9/11 every month.
FACT: Check out the 2009 CIA Fact book and a study by the OECD, and you’ll find that our infant mortality rate is twice as high as the infant mortality rates of Sweden or France. According to a recent study by the CDC, one reason for our high infant mortality rate is inadequate prenatal care, which is also one reason many deseprate women seek abortions.
FACT: 700,000 people file for bankruptcy each year because of medical bills. Most of these people had insurance.
FACT: Unless aggressive action is taken to stop Medicare fraud and abuse, including the fraud in Medicare Advantage, Medicare will go broke by 2016.
FACT: The health insurance industry is spending millions of dollars in lobbyists and misinformation campaigns. They are also funding the Tea-Baggers.
All of the Republicans as well as the Blue Dog Democrats are getting generous campaign contributions from health insurance companies. Since 2010 is an election year, you can expect health insurance companies to step up these contributions. If you have health insurance, you can expect your premiums to go up or your benefits to go down.
FACT: Right now our medical bills consume 1/6 of our economy. Unless something is done, we will be spending 40 % our income on health insurance premiums with no guarantee that we will get coverage when we get sick. Businesses cannot survive without customers. If everyone is going broke paying for health insurance, no one will be able to buy any of the goods or services that businesses offer. Health insurance premiums have a definite link to unemployment.
Obama’s abysmal scores might very well be a reflection on society, not on Obama. It might also indicate that society is misinformed about health care.
I am not totally happy with the current bills. We need a public option. We could let Medicare sell health insurance for everybody. But we cannot continue to do nothing. I admire Obama for his efforts to solve this problem – in spite of poll numbers.
The real problem is not Obama, but the greedy Republicans and Republicrats in the Senate who find nothing wrong with socialized medicine for themselves, but everything wrong with socialized medicine for every body else.

Hard to believe Obama’s even in the mid-40 percent range on his handling of the economy, health-care and terrorism — these are all bound to drop, but there is still a die-hard loyal contingency with blinders on with whom he can do no wrong. We’ve got state after state declaring bankruptcy, there have been no measures taken to create any lasting jobs, the only thing this admin knows to do is print more money and propose new taxes. There are no incentives to keep jobs in the U.S. and promote small/med/large businesses at home. So far, the biggest success story for this admin is “cash for clunkers”, but of course that was a very short-lived bandaid of a program. The banks still aren’t lending money –who knows where and for what all of that bail-out money was spent. If the health-care bill does actually pass in it’s current form, it will be yet another albatross around our country’s neck — to think that the govnt can be more efficient than the public sector — PLEASE.

The article should actually say that the poll numbers are the lowest SO FAR. As his administration continues, the extent of the President’s bungling and lack of experience (as evidenced by his inability to ride herd on his own party) will become obvious to even his most fanatic supporters.

What exactly did some of you expect to happen after the president’s one year in office? Did anyone seriously believe things were going to go from the devastating economic crisis to a magical kingdom. I simply do not understand the falling support of a president who has done more than any human could have done after only one year in office. The fact that Republicans want the president to fail and, indeed, are doing everything they can to make sure that happens, is the reason for the mess in the senate and house. If Republicans want him to fail, why are they so afraid of the president’s proposals? Because they understand that if his proposals are passed, then things will improve drastically, and Repubs would have no chance of winning any more seats in the house or senate. Playing politics with people’s lives, especially chidren’s lives, is possibly the most disgusting thing some Republican congressmen have done this past year. Why not let President Obama have the programs he wants? If they are wrong for the country, then Republicans will easily win, not only congress, but the presidency in three years. It is very obvious why these so called Americans are doing their utmost to make sure his programs do not get approved.

“What exactly did some of you expect to happen after the president’s one year in office?” Well, how about: More than spending the first three months doing nothing but rubber stamping the Democractic party’s backlogged “wish list” rather than working on the immediate problems in this country. More than coming up with handout programs like “Cash for Clunkers” to fix the unemployment situation in this country. More than paying people to assume mortgages to fix the housing and construction markets. More than talking about “shovel-ready” projects that have yet to materialize. More than pushing a way to pay for a broken health care system rather than actually working on identifying and fixing the problems. And from the numbers, I’m thinking a lot of swing voters that put him into office expected so as well.

As much as I like Obama and his beliefs, what has happened is what I predicted:
1)Republicans are not into creatively working within the framework of the governing majority. They are only into delay (see Judd Greggs manual on stalling in Congress), deny (any good news), and denigrate (“You lie!). They do not really care if the country fails on the democrats watch (see them gleefully touting the jobless figures). By having no vision or answers themselves and by helping to create an atmosphere of fear and chaos, they plan to rise from the ashes. A combination of anger, fear, righteousness, and jingoism (as demonstrated by the shrill, Know-Nothing “Tea-baggers”) are their only real passions. Power rather than proactive governing is what they are into. I predicted they would not work in a bipartisan way from the get-go.
2)The media-addicted, short attention spanned, spoiled, lazy, deer-in-the-headlights, American Sheeple tend to have knee-jerk reactions to any government in power – good or bad. Even though I disagreed with almost anything Cheney/Rove/Bush did, especially how they did nothing to avert the economic/health/environmental crises we are facing, I had blasted in other posts (before the election) the tendency of many liberals and independents to just blame Cheney/Rove/Bush during the double 00’s…….. and not change their life-styles or become really responsible to do the hard work to solve our problems (Pogo’s – “We have met the enemy and he is us.”). I predicted the American Sheeple would turn on Obama if the problems were not solved almost immediately.
3) Our media, unfortunately, just feeds this atmosphere. They have helped to create the American “Sheeple”. Proff:
* Media watching is a passive event – no work needed.
• Everything is sound-bites geared for a short attention span.
• Most shows, movies, etc. have everything solved and wrapped up in a few hours….many in a half hour! This is what the sheeple have come to expect – while they passively watch, hypnotized, everything is “solved” in a half hour. They get bored, angry , and confused if things take too long to solve.
• Most of the things they highlight in political discussion, and/or the sheeple respond to, are the “in-your-face” attacks without substance….i.e. even supposedly serious discussion degenerates into just entertainment.
I predicted the media would continue to do this during an Obama or Clinton administration thus generating #2.
Saving this country is going to take breaking out of the box thinking and HARD WORK !
LET’S BE A RESILIENT PEOPLE AND NOT A SHRILL AND WHINING SHEEPLE!

I have a real question here. Why does everyone bring up the Republican Party and say they are the ones not getting this health care bill through. They dont have the numbers to do anything. 60-40 DEM. They have the majority. The DEMs have never asked input from REP. This is a one sided agrument and the one side still cant get it right. When you have controlled Congress for the last 3 years at least surely you can get what you want passed. Please give me some input here.

I’m glad you mentioned it actually. Palin is a private citizen now because she quit her elected position to go make alot of money selling books and blathering right-wing propaganda on TV. So we should believe she will be dedicated to public office next time if given another chance? With Republicans the bottom line is always the bottom line.

How can anyone approve of his handling of the economy? Obama’s Cap & Trade, Healthcare costs, higher taxes (personal/payroll/business), higher debt, card check, more regulations, necssarily higher energy costs (Obama’s own words), anti-business rhetoric and an administration with little business background are all making businesses uneasy about hiring and negatively affecting employment.
If you owned a business, do you think these policies would be good for you? No wonder businesses are moving overseas. Wake up America and get some common sense.

Why does the media perpetuate the myth that the U.S. President is Commander in Chief of the economy? There’s not an economist alive today that believes that US fiscal policy has any direct impact on the health of the economy. You pay the piper either way, either through taxes or through higher interest rates and inflation. It’s a zero sum game that gets wildly distorted for political purposes.
Monetary policy and the Federal Reserve is a different matter.

Obama Administration is still contending with the Bush Economy. From the first day George Bush came to the White House the US economy had been headed in a downward spiral. It is totally unrealistic for Americans to expect President Obama to correct in just one year, what took Bush over eight long years to wreck. Remember folks the Crash of Oct. 2008 was under Bush’s watch, the loss of 4 Trillion dollars in American’s retirement funds was under Bush’s watch, and the forclosure crisis of 2007 and 2008 under Bush’s watch as well. This is not Obama’s mess, it is Bush’s. Happy retirement George and thanks.

John, you’re right that the President has little to do with the state of the economy. But doesn’t seem curious that under most Republican Presidents the economy does so terrible. How come whenever the newspaper headlines reads
“Worst Unemployment Since…” or “Worst Home Forclosures since…” or “Highest Poverty levels since…” they’re always under a Republican administration? Oh sure, some will say what about Carter?
But the downward spiral in the US economy started during the Nixon/Ford administration and simply continued to spiral down into Carter’s time. Just what Obama is experiencing now. It is the Obama Adminstration and a Bush Economy. And remember the Great Great Crash of 1929?…..Hoover (R)

“How come whenever the newspaper headlines reads “Worst Unemployment Since…” or “Worst Home Forclosures since…” or “Highest Poverty levels since…” they’re always under a Republican administration?”
This is a great question, I’m glad you asked.
Think about it this way: How come when economic data is bad under a Democrat President, the headlines read “Higher Unemployment Provides Opportunities to Pursue Life Interests, Spend More Time with Family” or “Unemployed? Try FunEmployed!” or “Job Losses Have Slowed, Economy on the Upswing”.
The reason you see these headlines is due to the liberal, cheerleading MSM. Remember when Bush 43 was blistered when unemployment exceeded 5% while Obama gets a pass at 10%+?
With the Liberal MSM, things are never as bad as they seem when a Republican is in the WH, and not as good as they seem when a Democrat is in the WH.

And chalking up 2 trillion in debt , right off the bat that was suppose to go to shovel ready jobs wouldn’t have created some jobs had it not been used as a slush fund for unions and ficticious congressional districts.

“I’m just asking in a strict economic sense whether the president’s fiscal policy has a direct impact on the health of US economy.”
The answer is YES. Undoubtedly.
- Deficit spending (to degrees not witnessed since WWII) affect the value of the U.S. Dollar
- Massive influx of cash into the economy is going to eventually affect interest rates (inflation)
- Obama has signaled to businesses (large and small) tax hikes, increased regulations, and increased energy costs are coming their way
- Obama has inserted (and continues to insert) government influence into private industry to a degree never seen before (or since WWII?)
- Obama continues push for govt. takeover of mortgage industry and student loan industry (which will undoubtedly lead to loan approvals for riskier profiles and more defaults…to be paid with tax dollars)
So, yes, the president’s fiscal policy and attitude towards business matter.

Obama couldn’t possibly fix all the things that Georgie screwed up in one year but it doesn’t surprise me….I’ve been seeing these “approval” ratings since he first took office. I can’t stand reading about how he is doing anything and basically how some people think he sucks because the economy hasn’t gotten better. ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!! How does one fix such a huge deficit in one year??? Now come on people, let’s stop judging because he’s a dem or because he’s black and give him the credit he deserves for doing a pretty good job at the beginning of a long haul. I predict it will take him AT LEAST all 4 years of his presidency to halfway correct Georgie’s garbage

Well, the Web site doesn’t seem to seem to post the Gallup questions, but they probably don’t include anything about Senate rules. If we did not have that political constipation, we would have had a full set of appointments in office and doing business by May, we would already have health care reform, we would already have new financial regulations, and we would have had a prompt decision about whether Congress is going finance any expansion of the Afghanistan military effort, before any more troops were sent over.
The Post shares blame with most of the general media for retreating to the daily “he said, she said” and failing to let the public know how much of the potential to solve their problems is being wasted on a pompous, hopelessly antiquated set of rules and customs, better adapted for a gentleman’s debating society than a democratic legislative chamber.

No one could correct the mess left by the last administration in one year, and no one would expect it.
When Reagan took office, unemployment was at 7.5% and it got steadily worse for TWO FULL YEARS hitting a high of 10.8%. It then stayed around 10% for SIX MORE MONTHS.
That’s 2.5 years before Reagan got any hold on the economy. But of course the right wing will pretend it can all be done at the snap of the fingers – except when one of theirs are in power.

That’s before the tanking of the economy, the bail outs and the rest of the major trouble markers of Obama’s! So blaming Bush is not right and it’s gotten old also. So when do they or are they willing to say its Obama’s presidentsy? When will they step up and say yes the Dems for the last three years have helped bring things to were they are now being in the last three years nothing passed congress with out there stamp of approval! By the way Bush and Regan are not in office it is Obama! Obama made all the promises that he now refuses to keep like having this health care mess on C-span instead of behind closed doors! This is why people do not approve of him and never will as long as he will not keep it in the open!

How are you able to stick your fingers in your ears, shout, stomp your feet, and type all at the same time?

Obama and his liberal cronies based the entire campaign on lies and most Americans bought them.
With all the corruption in our U.S. government, hardworking taxpayers can’t trust Obama, his administration or the liberal members of Congress.
What happened to transparency and allowing us to review everything on TV? Why have some senators been offered perks for their individual states at the cost of all American taxpayers?
I may never vote for another Democrat!

When the Republicans have no argument or facts in their favor, they resort to personal insult and attack. Setting the moral tone for the nation. Sad.

Wow the knives are out for the latest version of the “Two Minute Hate”. Thank Obama for Obama. (Since you know there is no god and Obama anionted himself) I don’t know just how worse it could be without his lack of leadership and competency.
You can fool some of the people some of the time, but all of the time has it’s limits. Obama and his cult like followers are learning a hard lession and writing in agony upon the digestion of such a bitter pill.
You should defend the country, NOT any individual. All Obama is, is a personality cult. Why are you so hateful? It’s not our fault the man turned his back on America and did the exact opposite of everything he said he was going to do.
Bailouts to Wall St., Bigger Government, MORE WARS!!! What are you fighting over? Bush already got his 3rd term with Obama, and Cheney approves. You are vitrolically attacking people who hold the same positions as your own. It’s just we are willing to confront Obama when he #### in our face, we aren’t happily drinking it down. But hey if that’s your cup of tea, Great! Just don’t pee on me and tell me “it’s raining” OR what’s best for me! Fair enough? We now resume our “Two Minute Hate” already in progress….” Have at thee…!!!

This is probably the ironic post of the month.
Seriously – please peruse these blogs and note the mouth-frothing, vein-popping, anti-intellectual comments by liberals on these blogs.
That a liberal poster could make such a comment in the context of this storm of liberal bile should be a key indication to any neutral observer as to the believability of comments made from such quarters.

ABC-you are Obama protectors. You should work for Russia News Agency Tass. You are obviously stopping comments that don’t further your boy’s cause. Don’t worry he is going to fail miserably with or without your help.

Although the approval ratings don’t define the way later generations view the history of a presidency, I don’t see any solid definable points of improvements brought on by our president at this time. As a constitutional conservative, I can expect that government will not reinforce the moral basics that many of us hold. However, on individual freedoms of choice, and not confiscating the dollars we earn I can’t bend. We can’t accept a distribustionist society, or one that attempts to merge government with private industry. That is what we’re getting, and getting again. Federal imposition above the states rights must be defended against.

LOL – that is exactly right. When I look at the things that the left says about politicians they dislike it I am always amazed at just how deeply disturbed some of these people really are. It makes me laugh.
They start out with this attitude of “let’s all mellow out and look at some alternative ideas…” and Gawd help you if you disagree. They hate you, your family and pretty much everyone you ever met. Not only do they want you dead they want to star in the “Texas Chain Saw Massacre XX through XXIV”
It all started with this “let’s mellow out and look at a different, softer way.”

Polls? Who cares? Just look at the want ads in your local paper, look toward the shopping centers on the weekend, go sit across your state unemployment office some afternoon, do some volunteering at a food pantry…Hey, if it’s working for you, continue supporting the current Administration…..

I am more than ready to hear that Obama is being impeached and think once the dems are pushed out at the end of the year then it very likely that Obama will be. Geez, the guy is a fraud is the best thing I can say for him. Other than that, he is dumb as rocks, completely dishonest, can’t tell the truth even if his life depended on it, and completely clueless.

So where is all the c-span coverage of the health care debates? Why isn’t there any outrage on this from ABC? All we get from the WH press room is some idiotic statement about Obama/Pelosi/Reid huddling all night and that ‘progress is being made’ – what a joke.

As the old saying goes “If you walk 8 miles into the woods ….it will probably have to walk 8 miles out of the woods. Or in other words if it took 8 years of Republican mismanagement of the economy to get us into this mess and if it took 8 years of Republican mismanagement to nearly cause the total collapse of the world economy…..I would guess that it will take more than ONE YEAR to extricate ourselves out of this Republican caused mess. President Obama is doing OK given the mess he was handed. Anyone who seriously thinks the Republicans have any answers….I’ve got a bridge or two to sell you.

I don’t understand why there is any outrage from Republicans? You didn’t want any government transparency anyhow. You supported Bush and McCain etc didn’t you? The way I see it you got exactly what you wanted so why the sour face?
It’s often amazing to me how people can complain when they’ve been handed the dessert they ordered for so many times over and over again…….

Posted by: dk | January 14, 2010, 1:48 am 1:48 am

Hey Bill, did you complain when Cheney had the closed door dealing making energy policy?
I didn’t think so……..understand my prior point?
Conservatives should be dancing in the street because we have the same shady, self serving, government we always have!!! To whine now because it’s Democrats doing it? That’s just plain hypocricy in it’s purest form….

It doesn’t seem to matter at this point where the polls are. The dems seem hell bent to pass this thing even if the American people are totally opposed to it… It seems suicidal for many dems, but there may be another motive in this for them…

Our government has room for lots of improvement, not doubt, but sometimes I think we get what we deserve – we fail to participate, to demand better, to refuse to tolerate abuse. In fact, now just one year later the nation and world, who appeared to have finally gotten it – just how evil and detrimental the current GOP is to the welfare of our nation…yet, here we are again, knee deep in the appearance that we are once again willing to fall victim to their empty promises and disingenuous assessments of ciccumstances. The right wing are not the majority of America…they are simply the ones with no other life but to remain devoted to getting their way and inflicting on America their insidious agenda. How is it so many forget so soon who landed us in the mess we’re in now? We got Obama in and we go back to our lives and expect miracles from him in 12 months! Return to Fox News, Limbaugh, Coulter version of America and there’s no doubt in my mind that we as a nation are screwed for good.

Im so tired of hearing that Bush was the cause of all our problems. Doesn’t anyone remember how many times Bush tried to get congress to investigate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? He was advised about the problems, and told they could lead to terrible crisis if they didn’t act. Seventeen times (17) he called on congress to take action to reform Fannie and Freddie…and the congress refused to act. Obama was among the people who refused to act as well. Obviously, they didn’t care to protect America from a crisis.
So…the Democrats and RINOS are to blame, and I wonder how they can hold up their heads now. If they had listened to Bush could have diverted this crises. Take off your blinders, people!
